3 John 1

1 The elder unto the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.

2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.

4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

5 Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers;

6 Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well:

7 Because that for his name’s sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.

8 We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellowhelpers to the truth.

9 I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.

10 Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church.

11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

12 Demetrius hath good report of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, and we also bear record; and ye know that our record is true.

13 I had many things to write, but I will not with ink and pen write unto thee:

14 But I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Greet the friends by name.

  1. Amen.
    I pray for truth.
I thankyou Lord, for Your Word today.
Do good and stay away from evil.
    Bless You Jesus.

  2. This chapter speaks about working together for Truth. We should always lift each other up in prayer. Sometimes a simple compliment, encouraging word or a “thank you” can go a long way. We never know how much these things can lift someone up, encourage them to keep doing what they are doing and be stronger than ever. Our acts of kindness and love do not always have to be noticed by others; but, know that the Lord sees it. I thank you Lord for allowing me to be a part of POFW, a family of believers that shows your love, through everything you give us the opportunity to do.

  3. 3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.

4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

A parent rejoices knowing that their children are walking in truth,it’s not burdensome. I understand that we’re not perfect, yes, we all make mistakes and sin. But it’s important to get up, dust yourself off, repent, and turn back to GOD.

The best book to live by is the bible. Eat it daily, apply it to your life. You’ll be glad that you did! It gives you guidance and keep you on the right path!

For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.

Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee. (‭Proverbs‬ ‭4‬:‭2, 6‬ KJV)

  4. 3Jo 1:1
The elder to the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth.

3 For I rejoiced greatly when the brothers came and testified to your truth, as indeed you are walking in the truth.

9 I have written something to the church, but Diotrephes, who likes to put himself first, does not acknowledge our authority. 10 So if I come, I will bring up what he is doing, talking wicked nonsense against us. And not content with that, he refuses to welcome the brothers, and also stops those who want to and puts them out of the church.

12 Demetrius has received a good testimony from everyone, and from the truth itself. We also add our testimony, and you know that our testimony is true.
    (ESV)

We can see how important it is to walk in the truth and keep our testimony in this world. No matter where we are, whether at work, school, church, the supermarket, or even where we live, as children of God, people are always watching. They are watching how we walk, talk, dress, act, they even look at the attitude that we display in our daily lives, which is why it is so important to always be walking in the truth and live who I confess to be, a child of the king. One mistake is all it takes for your testimony to be trashed, burned and smeared all over the place. Let’s be more committed to God and commandments. Let’s shine for Jesus!! MORE FOUR40!

  5. The POFW hospitality team is a crucial part of the church. They are not simply door openers and hand shakers. These people are the first faces our guests see and hopefully the face they see is that of love, kindness and compassion. As the Message version states: “hospitality worthy of God himself”. Keep up the great work team! You make a difference in the lives of our guests!!

5-8 Dear friend, when you extend hospitality to Christian brothers and sisters, even when they are strangers, you make the faith visible. They’ve made a full report back to the church here, a message about your love. It’s good work you’re doing, helping these travelers on their way, hospitality worthy of God himself! They set out under the banner of the Name, and get no help from unbelievers. So they deserve any support we can give them. In providing meals and a bed, we become their companions in spreading the Truth. MSG

  6. 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

John admonishes us to follow what is good. If we follow the truth that God has gave us there will be a reward for us. Truth is something we need to take like God’s word teaches us: buy the truth and sell it not. We see the importance of the truth, the truth will lead us to the joy of God. Time now is for truth to be a greater part of our lives, where we can enjoy the presence of God.

  7. 11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

Imitating Evil doesn’t make you a child of God but If you do good you are gods child

  8. We cannot pick and choose who we think needs this gospel. The gospel is for everyone who is willing to accept it. God doesn’t call us to his kingdom because of our background, skin color or financial status. He’s looking for that whosoever will. Our time is now to be prayed up, read up and fasted up. We must reach this city!

  9. 11 Dear friend, don’t let this bad example influence you. Follow only what is good. Remember that those who do good prove that they are God’s children, and those who do evil prove that they do not know God. (NLT)

We are called to be righteous examples for this world, there are enough, in fact more than enough, examples of how to sin. This world needs examples of how to live for God. Lord shine Your light through me/us!

  10. 5. My friend, you demonstrate your faithfulness in all the things you do for the brothers and sisters; even when they are strangers to you, you treat them as family.
    6. These friends tell the entire church how you have extended your hand to them in love. You will do well to send them on in a way that is in keeping with God.

    9. I wrote some things specifically to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to be the one up front, rejects us.
    10. If I come, you can be sure that I will call him out and draw attention to his actions. He assails us with lies and deceit. As if that were not enough, he does not welcome the traveling missionaries into his home. Instead, he hinders any who do so and expels them from the church.

We can choose to either extend our hand in love or reject our brothers and sisters, but don’t think that God doesn’t know… and others else can see it as well. Are you sure you want those actions to be called out and drawn attention to?

    • I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

I am a child of the king of kings and lord of lords and i will walk in truth have have joy in my life AMEN

  11. 11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

    Following the leader.

We need to be sure of the influences we allow in our lives. There is both good and evil in this world, we need to guard our hearts and reign them in when we feel an attraction to the ungodly. We as people have bad days, sometimes we make mistakes. This verse isn’t saying if we mess up and do wrong then we have never seen God. It uses the word doeth, eth means to continuously do. So if one continuously does good they are of God and if one continuously does evil they don’t know him.

  12. 11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

Wow! hallelujah! short, sweet, and simple 🙂 we can’t say we haven’t seen God because He is everywhere!!!! If we only think about how He wakes us up every single day, He gives us brethe, life, a house, food, EVERYTHING! I will keep doing good things because I am a child of God and his love endureth FOREVER!!! We can’t be friends with this world and say we have God in our hearts! Jesus gives us that joy and peace that we all look for in material things! I will praise you always Jesus!!!

  13. MORE TRUTH

TRUTH, its meaning to the believer is deeper than honesty. Honesty is the beginning of TRUTH. JESUS Christ is TRUTH. Doctrine is TRUTH.

Anything that discredits or opposes JESUS and HIS Kingdom is not TRUTH. Anything deceitful or dishonest is not TRUTH.
Any broken promise or commitment is not TRUTH.

TRUTH is the pathway to BLESSING through Health and Prosperity. Our LORD JESUS speaks through HIS Apostle John here to a faithful follower and tells him, I wish (my wishes for you) above everything else that you PROSPER not Pauper. Increase and receive BLESSINGS.

Prosper – 2137. euodoo, yoo-od-o´-o; to help on the road, i.e. (passively) succeed in reaching; figuratively, to succeed in business affairs: — (have a) prosper(-ous journey).

To prosper is to gain or increase, to know, have and experience MORE.
To be in health means to live in the absence of sickness. MORE healthy days than sick days.

All of these great promises hinge on TRUTH and our willingness to WALK in TRUTH. Live honest lives, speak sound doctrine, grow in grace.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  14. iLove to eat More Word

    5 Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers;

6 Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well:

People are always watching, us whether good (like in the before mentioned verse), or bad like the following verse. “10 Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church.”

We should always walk in a good way that lets us share the truth of the Gospel in the spirit of love!

  15. MORE serving.

Dear friend, you are being faithful to God when you care for the traveling teachers who pass through, even though they are strangers to you. They have told the church here of your loving friendship. Please continue providing for such teachers in a manner that pleases God. (‭3 John‬ ‭1‬:‭5-6‬ NLT)

We are all called to serve and to humble ourselfs for the service of others. We should all look to serve the ones over us and the ones with authority over us. Even the ones under us and our friends. Serve.

  16. 11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

The enemy doesn’t like anything having to do with God. Those who choose to follow evil is not of God. Do the will of God which is good and blessings will follow because God knows the intention of the heart.

  17. 11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

Galations 6:10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith

  18. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

To know that by the GRACE and MERCY of GOD my children are learning the TRUTH of GOD’S WORD makes my spirit leap and my heart swell. We are building a legacy for our children that will last them through eternity. Hallelujah! This can be said for our descendants as well as those that come after us in the Church.

  19. Dear friend, don’t let this bad example influence you. Follow only what is good. Remember that those who do good prove that they are God’s children, and those who do evil prove that they do not know God. (‭3 John‬ ‭1‬:‭11‬ NLT)

We were called to be a light unto this world to influence it with good works, we must not let the world influence us! God has called on his children that we would live a holy and righteous life, a life willing to serve him, not the world!

  20. 11 Dear friend, don’t let this bad example influence you. Follow only what is good. Remember that those who do good prove that they are God’s children, and those who do evil prove that they do not know God. (NLT)

Your actions will always speak louder then your words.

  21. 11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.
Lord, let my hands always being doing your good works!!

  22. 11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

It does matter who you follow and you are linked up with. Being un-equally yoked is not just in marriage, but in personal friend relationships as well. We are to be in the world but not of the world. Therefore we have to be friendly and show a Godly love that we might win the lost, but we cannot follow those of the world. Who is leading and influencing who?

We must step away from evil works and do that which is good in the eyes of the Lord!

  23. Soul prospereth !!!! 2. Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. 3. For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth. 4. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth. THANK YOU FOR THE TRUTH JESUS !!!! IT’S THE TRUTH THAT SETS US FREE !!!!

  24. When I read this I couldn’t help but think of when Pastor says some churches are like this “Us four and no more”. John says Diotrephes, “who loves to be first” (vs9) won’t welcome them in and is “spreading malicious nonsense” (vs10) about them. To put it plainly this person wanted to be 1st, to have all the attention, and talk badly about anyone who posed a threat. This spirit sounds familiar in Luci : “For you said to yourself, ‘I will ascend to heaven and set my throne above God’s stars. I will preside on the mountain of the gods far away in the north.14 I will climb to the highest heavens and be like the Most High.’ (ISa 14:13-14) Pride comes before the fall and the son of the morning star, fell hard. John says that he will call attention to his behavior in hopes for his repentance. The attention we should be seeking is the Lord’s. A humble heart grows and shows submissive fruit.

“Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.” (Ro 12:3).

  25. 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
It makes my heart glad that my girls are serving God and putting God first in their life. My heart breaks for the parents of their backslidden children. We need to have more compassion and love for the hurting and backslidden, we hate the sin not the sinner.

  26. 11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

It’s easy to catch ourself following after things, people, trends. We do it sometimes subconsciously without ever really trying to. We should watch ourselves closely to be sure we are not following the wrong things. Things that don’t glorify God, people that are not following him. They’re everywhere and as children of God we should be careful it discerned what kind of stuff is around us. It says he that doeth evil hath not seen God

  27. its been a long while since anyone mentioned the real truth of yoked and unequally yoked as stated in Gods word. Thank you Sister Watts, so many people misinterpret and misquote that scripture. Bur referring to todays scripture, every person deserves the chance to know the truth and shame on us if we do not share it.

  28. AMP of 3 John 1:3-4
    3) In fact, I greatly rejoice when (some of) the brethren from time to time arrived and spoke (so highly) of the sincereity and fidelity of your life, as indeed you do live in the Truth (the whole Gospel presents).
    4) I have no greater joy than this – to hear that my (Spiritual) children are living their lives in the Truth.

Verse 4 is such a true statement.
I speak from a Sunday School Teachers heart. There truely is no greater joy than knowing that the “children” you have helped teach and train in the Gospel of Jesus Christ are living and walking in the Truth today.
I have had the privilege of being a Sunday School Teacher for the past 30 years, and everyone of the children that I have had the privilege, and honor, and opportunity to teach – I call “my children.” And there is no greater joy than seeing and hearing that these “children” are living and working for God. Some of them are now Sunday School Teachers, Youth Ministers, been on the Missions Field, and are in Music. Hallelujah! What Great Joy!!
So thankful too that my son, Timothy, is living and walking in the Truth.

  29. 9 I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.
10 Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church.

Nowhere that we read in the past has the bible told us to forgive and forget, like so many people like to say that the bible says. In fact, here it tells us to remember. In fact the word also tells us to mark the people who cause problems in the church. Although we are to forgive and to love, we are also called to be wise as serpents…

  30. I hope wishes do come true for you & me……………………………………

2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

    “Sometimes they do!”……………………………………………………………….

  31. Unsubmitted authorities
3John 9 ¶ I wrote something to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first among them, does not acknowledge us.3John 10 Therefore, if I come, I will call attention to the deeds he is doing–the bringing of unjustified charges against us with evil words! And not being content with that, he not only refuses to welcome the brothers himself, but hinders the people who want to do so and throws them out of the church.

Diotrephes, the pastor of the church, liked to run his own show and would not welcome guest speakers, even apostles. Not only that, he excommunicated people who would welcome others and spoke harshly of John and his company. Diotrephes sin was not one of doctrine but of pride and control.

It is important that we do not follow his example. His future looks grim from what little we read about him. Everyone who has authority is under authority. We put ourselves in a bad position when we refuse to be under apostolic authority. Diotrephes was under someone’s authority; it most certainly was not God’s.

  32. 11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

  33. For I rejoiced greatly when brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, just as you walk in the truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth. (‭III John‬ ‭1‬:‭3-4‬ NKJV)

You are your greatest testimony.  We have to live our lives to reflect Christ in us.  Our fruits should show and trace back to God.  Our actions, our speech, the way we treat others they all must show the light.   I can just imagine how God might feel when things like that might be said of us.  I pray that you let me walk in the truth Lord and that o may please you at all times.

  34. For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth. (‭3 John‬ ‭1‬:‭3‬ KJV)And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it. (‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭12‬:‭26‬ KJV)So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. (‭Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭5‬ KJV)

  35. 14 But I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Greet the friends by name.

I can’t wait to go up to Heaven and see God face to face and worship him at his throne.

  36. “Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.” A walk towards the Lord (Jesus), or a walk away was the reason then, just as it is today. Those that were like Christ (Jesus) were welcoming, loving, and prayerful whereas those that were not, were then and still are today, snared by the destroyer (satan). Dear God, awaken me as our country needs more of you; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. In God we trust! What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  37. More Truth

    3 John 1:8 NLT
So we ourselves should support them so that we can be their partners as they teach the truth.

And island mentality does not belong in ministry. We as the Body of Christ are all connected and we need each other to fulfill what we need to do in spreading the gospel. By supporting both hose in other local assembly and those abroad in the furtherance of the gospel, we work with God to bring more truth to this world.

    Ephesians 4:15-16 NL
15 Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church.

16 He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.

  38. No need for a title

9 I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.

Many people in the church are in the hunt for a superior title than their brethren. This is not Christ like! Position seekers are taking the part of the devil in the church. Instead of being overjoyed and content in his position being in front of God throughout all eternity, the devil sought to have a greater title. The greatest search of a Christian is to seek the face of God and the devil had the front row seat. Sometimes we don’t really kno what we have until we loose it. The bike says the first shall be last and the last shall be first. I love the position that Pastor Watts takes on positions at the church… Positions to him are futile, rather results or he would say fruit. This allows for seemingly no ones to be someone’s. Pedigrees are not Christlike either! This is why Jesus was not a Levite. We follow someone because of their direction not because of their title! Leaders are made by leading, not by what they are called! Thanks for all the great teaching Pastor, it has changed my life.

  39. 5 Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers;

Dear heavenly beloved father I come to you today humble before you Lord, for I need you more than anything in my life Jesus. For we walk faithful in the path were you directed us, for what we are doing for our Brothers and sisters, even though they are strangers to me,for we always have each other’s backs when we need to be lifted up or when we are in incorporeal battles!!! In Jesus Name Amen !!!!!

  40. I’m reminded of a song that says “love isn’t love until you give it away.” It’s that first initial act of giving it away that creates a last impression that not only impacts the receive but the giver as well.

    5 Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers;

It is when we stop loving others that we find ourselves standing still instead of moving forward. We are to faithfully treat others as if they are Christ. In reality He lives within some and trying to live within everyone else.

  41. Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth. (‭3 John‬ ‭1‬:‭2-3‬ KJV)

To prosper as our soul prospers is greatness. Many times we think that things are hidden because it’s person between you and God. While it is true that people can not see every moment of your day with the lord, they can see you prosper. If you are always sinking, ill, and downcast then it’s time to examine your souls prosperity. Jesus help us all to be more committed to you.

  42. 2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.

It is the truth that causes our soul to prosper. When we align ourselves to His truth, we find that all things work together for our good. So even in adversity, we know we must continue to praise and give thanks because we are the apple of his eye and he has an expected outcome or ending for each of our lives! Thank you for he truth!

  43. v4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

We must maintain our guard against false teaching and love TRUTH. We will be held accountable to GOD for the truth that HE has placed in our hands.
    More TRUTH

  44. 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

I never under stood until recently why we rejoice so much when a sinner repents. This is it, much greater the joy to us to stay on the right path. It’s not the one that runs the race, but the one who endures until the end wins the prize. We have His Spirit to guide us, His love that gives us grace, His power that gives us strength, His favor, the Victory.
Let God smile over your life, keep walking in truth.

  45. 3 John 3-12

In this last letter, John uses the picture of a host. Host take initiative with their guest. We do what is right to make them feel welcome and comfortable and provide all the things they need at the time of stay.

We are like host we must ACT not re-act.

We should be the first ones on the list to act prontly when serving others.

John distinguishes in this letter between going first and wanting to go first. Diotrephes wanted to be first, but not necessary when it came into serving others.
Here we see the difference between a GUEST and HOST…
This letters has teach us to be HOST and always take the INITIATIVE
