Acts 1

1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,

2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:

3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;

11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

12 Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day’s journey.

13 And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.

14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

15 And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,)

16 Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus.

17 For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry.

18 Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.

19 And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.

20 For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let another take.

21 Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,

22 Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.

23 And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.

24 And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen,

25 That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.

26 And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

  1. 3. To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

After His passion…also called His crucifixion! It was His passion to make a way for us to have freedom from our sins and be able to spend eternity with Him, which He did by being crucified. What are we passionate about?

  2. Four40 – Experience “IT”

3 After his death, he presented himself alive to them in many different settings over a period of “40” days. MSG
7-8. He told them, “You don’t get to know the time. Timing is the Father’s business. What you’ll get is the Holy Spir”IT”. MSG

What an amazing 40 days this has been. How has Jesus “shewed” himself to you? Have you experienced “IT”? “IT” has taken me to new places these past few weeks. Sometimes, we may not want to go where the Lord leads us but “we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Now is not the time for misunderstandings, unknown directions or doubt. As the song proclaimed Wednesday evening, now is the time for the divine favor of the Lord.

I will believe the report of the Lord No matter what the world says

  3. 17 For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry.

This man , Judas was one of the original disciples but betrayed the Lord. He was numbered with them but was not a part of them. We should always watch and pray because at anytime we can fall. The field of blood could be our purchase!!

  4. The game-changer

    Acts 1:6-8 (NASB Strong’s)
6 So when they had come together, they were asking Him, saying, “Lord, is it at this time You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?” 7 He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority; 8 but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”

The Old Testament prophets prophesied a time when the Messiah would ride victoriously conquering the enemy. He would overthrow the wickedness, and establish the Kingdom of God.

During this time there were Jews who we part of an uprising against the Roman government. They were tired of the oppression and wanted to be delivered from the oppression and tyranny of Rome.

Now the time has finally come for the prophecies to be fulfilled according to them. However God had a different plan. Now instead of Jesus walking the earth full of the spirit of God, man would walk the earth with his spirit.

The battle went from the outside physical world to the spiritual war that has been raging for ages.

Suddenly men and women of faith ensued with Holy Ghost power would be casting out legions of demonic hoards, healing the sick, treading on serpents and scorpions. Deliverance, salvation, redemption, justification, grace, and sanctification were now made available to once fallen humanity.

They wanted him to establish the earthly kingdom, but instead he showed the hidden later of life and gave us power to combat the forces of darkness and help save the lost from a devil’s hell.

They may have been disappointed hearing the kingdom wasn’t coming, but the power God was about to unleash on the church was a game changer.

  5. Through prayer….

And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen, (‭Acts‬ ‭1‬:‭24‬ KJV)

Best way to make decisions in life is to seek GOD through prayer in all things. For The Lord already knows the heart of man, and what is best for us at all times. By doing this it’ll keep us from trouble, because we shouldn’t do things as being led of our emotions because it will lead us down the wrong path. But we must be led of the Spirit.

    Pray without ceasing. (‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5‬:‭17‬ KJV)

  6. iLove to eat More Word

The Apostle That Many Don’t Know.

26 And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

The majority of people don’t really know who Matthias was; however he was the man who took the place of Judas. The following is a short article from the internet.

There is no mention of a Matthias among the lists of disciples or followers of Jesus in the three synoptic gospels. According to Acts, he had been with Jesus from his baptism by John to the Ascension. In the days following, Peter proposed that the assembled disciples, who numbered about one hundred and twenty, nominate two men to replace Judas. They chose Joseph called Barsabas (whose surname was Justus) and Matthias. Then they prayed, “Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all [men], shew whether of these two thou hast chosen, That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.”[Acts 1:24–25] Then they cast lots, and the lot fell to Matthias; so he was numbered with the eleven apostles.[3] Matthias was present with the other apostles at Pentecost.[4]

As I was researching Matthias, I had this thought. Some say that signs and wonders ceased with the original Apostles…well according to study on Matthias, he was not an original Apostle and yet signs and wonders were still in manifestation. This proves the fact that signs and wonders would continue through other Apostles that would be ordained by men and approved of by the Holy Ghost.

  7. MORE POWER

8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Often we mistake the value of something because we don’t fully understand its purpose. The Promise, The Gift, both describe the Holy Ghost in the words of JESUS to the believer.

Now he identifies the purpose of the Holy Ghost. POWER to be WITNESSES. So often we use and depend on the Holy Ghost in our lives to be a protector, encourager, counselor, healer, deliverer, helper, revealer, faith builder and MORE. Facts are the Holy Ghost is all of these to the believer and MORE.

However, how often do we say of the Holy Ghost, the SPIRIT of JESUS in me, “made me a WITNESS today”. The POWER of GOD working in us is what makes us witnesses unto HIM.

For this reason we should actively and faithfully seek the LORD until we are FILLED with HIS POWER.

  8. 14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

Notice how Peter got up and spoke after unified prayer? Before the man of God can go up to the pulpit and preach God’s word, there first has to be unified prayer. This is why we have prayer for 30 minutes before every service! We must lift the preacher up in prayer, so that God can clearly speak through him, and for God’s will to take place!!

  9. 7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

There are somethings that we don’t need to know. We can force ourselves to try to find out but only wear ourselves out. Trust in God, He is an On Time God!

  10. 4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

This a place where many of God’s children can faulter, when they have to go to a place to wait for God’s promise. Waiting can be hard when you don’t know when it’s coming and don’t know how long you have to be in your season of trial before you see the promise you know God has given you. But this iswhy we have faith.

We don’t understand God’s timing and his plan for all of us in our lives, but he tells us all we need to do is trust in him and when we show ourselves faithful he will bless us. But when we wait for God, we cannot wait just on our own strength, God tells us how to wait for him in this same chapter

14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

If we continue with prayer and fasting to help nourish our spiritual bodies during the hard and long times we have to endure, God will strengthen and give us increasing faith to help us tarry and wait for his promise

  11. 26 And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

Many are called. But few are chosen. We are all called to be servants of God. But how many truly answer that call? In special forces training many go through the process and fail. Some make it till the very end, yet are not chosen. So for those they answered the call but they were not chosen.
We are all called to be in the Lords army yet some are called to do other works such as pastoring, teaching, bishoping,etc….. Not everyone is called to do those things. We all work in the same army, yet it takes many to support the army.

    We fight together.
    We win

  12. 11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

This Same Jesus comes to us today in many different manifestations of His Spirit. To some He is a healer, to some a deliverer, to some He brings peace, to some He is salvation and to others hope. The great manifest ion of “this same Jesus” is when He comes to live inside our hearts and gives us the same power that resurrected Him. We live so far below our privilege because we don’t invoke the power that is within us to really be what He has called us to be. The man signs and wonders that Jesus did while walking the earth is the same power we have today to do those same signs and wonders that will draw people to Him, because it is HIS power working within us.

  13. 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth

We need to witness to people there is 66% of this world that is not saved, but we can change that with the power and the word of God!!

  14. 18 Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.

To fear GOD is a GOOD thing!!! Not to fear GOD is NOT A GOOD IDEA!!! ^^

  15. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (NLT)

What a great gift He has given us! We can be filled and obtain power by the Holy Ghost. Thank You Jesus!

  16. 7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

17 For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry.

Numbers! Numbers! Why God always emphasizes in Numbers?? After the death and treason of Judah something was lacking, something was missing the Ministry of the 12 disciples was incomplete, so by prayer and supplication they ask the Lord and then the decision had to be made. For some reason I kept thinking when we were part of the team once you are missing one player you must forfeit the game; but They chose another disciple to be complete so the enemy will have a full team to deal with him.

  17. The misconception of 40 days in the upper room.

    Acts 1:3
To the same apostles also, after his suffering, he presented himself alive with many convincing proofs. He was seen by them over a forty-day period and spoke about matters concerning the kingdom of God.

Many erroneously state that the apostles waited for 40-50 days for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. It was actually about a week 7-10 days. Bishop Wright believes it was 7 days. Whether 7 or 10 or somewhere in between, we know for a fact that more than 10 is not accurate.

It was 40 days from resurrection to ascension. That leaves 7-10 days until Pentecost (which depends on how you are dating things).

The 120 were in the room for about a week.

  18. AMP of Acts 1:21-26
So one of the (other) men who have accompanied us (apostles) during all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,
From the baptism of John at the outset until the day when He was taken up from among us – one of these men must join us and become a witness to testify to His resurrection.
And they accordingly purposed (nominated) two men, Joseph called Barsabbas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.
And they prayed and said, You, Lord, Who know all hearts (their thoughts, passions, desires, appetites, purposes, and endeavors), indicate to us which one of these two You have chosen.
To take the place in this ministry and receive the position of an apostle, from which Judas fell away and went astray to go (where he belonged) to his own (proper) place.
And they drew lots (between the two), and the lot fell on Mattias; and he was added to and counted with the eleven apostles (special messengers).

This made me think of Proverbs 18:16. “A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.”
I have heard the saying over the years that “a man’s gift (ministry) will make room for itself. So, if you have a calling upon your life, be patient, be humble, be obedient, be faithful, and be a follower, and God who knows all about you (your thoughts, your passions, your desires, the plans and purpose He has for you) will make room for that gift (ministry) when His timing is right.

  19. 7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

  20. 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Then God added Fort Worth to that list!!!! I am so thankful I get to be a part of God’s plan.

  21. More of the Holy Ghost, I ask & pray, in Jesus Name, Father, Amen & Amen! We need his power in us!

8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
    __________________________________________________________
Jesus, please in your devine timing choose me again, to be a witness for you, Amen & Amen. You can search my heart, anytime you like, Amen & Amen…..

24 And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen,

“The God of Jacob is our Help”…………………………………………………………

  22. Baptized !!!! 5. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Ho’-ly Ghost not many days hence. 6. When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Is’-ra-el? 7. And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. 8. But ye shall receive power, after that the Ho’-ly Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Je-ru’-sa-lem, and in all Ju-dae’-a, and in Sa-ma’-ri-a, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Thank you Jesus for the Holy Ghost !!!! Thank you Jesus for the water baptism in Jesus Name !!!!! Hallelujah !!!!

  23. 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

That’s right!!! With the precious gift of the Holy Ghost we have power to overcome ANYTHING!!!! Because God didn’t give us His spirit just to give it to us but to witness to others how God has completely changed our lives 🙂 I was a long term substitute for 3 weeks for the same class and one day one of the KG kids asked me “Mrs. Nava, why do you only wear skirts? Why don’t you wear pants?” To me it was like wow a 6 yr old notices that I’m different hallelujah!!!! Even when you think no one is looking….your being an influence to someone!

That’s why having IT is so important because that is what is going to guide us and take away all the old and renew us from head to toe:)

  24. Act 1:17-20
17 For he was numbered among us and was allotted his share in this ministry.” 18 (Now this man acquired a field with the reward of his wickedness, and falling headlong he burst open in the middle and all his bowels gushed out. 19 And it became known to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the field was called in their own language Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.) 20 “For it is written in the Book of Psalms,
    “‘May his camp become desolate,
    and let there be no one to dwell in it’;
    and
“‘Let another take his office. ’
    (ESV)

In our ministry we must always be careful to know why we are doing it for. We must realize that it is not for us but for the Lord. We might sometimes feel like our ministry won’t work with out us but if we are not careful we can take it for granted to a point that we can lose it. We must remember that we need God and God doesn’t need us and there will always be someone to take our place.

  25. 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Dunimus (power) – its where we get our word dynamite. Holy Ghost is power. This power was never ment for us to put it on, on Sunday’s and Wednesday’s and then hang up in the closet. It was ment for it to be always expanding, always pushing the boundaries of our comfort zone, pushing our faith to level we have never been before.
God didn’t give any Holy Ghost duds, let the Jesus do a mighty work in our lives to take us beyond the perimeters of our faith.

  26. And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen, That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place. (‭Acts‬ ‭1‬:‭24-25‬ KJV)

God can and will replace those who fall or give up on ministry. As soon as your time is up somebody else would be glad to pick up the ball and run with it. We should never try to fumble the ball cause this is our ministry we have to protect it at all cost keep ourselfs faithful and pure from this world. So that we won’t slip and fall. And if you think a ministry can run with out you… Your wrong God will replace you/anyone. With somebody who has a burden for it.

I don’t ever want to drop the ball. JESUS help me please.

  27. “Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.” The Lord (Jesus) shall come again, which the word of God (Jesus) states. Although one will not know the time, one can clearly see through his word that his return is soon. Dear God, help me to be ready; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. In God we trust! What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  28. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. (‭Acts‬ ‭1‬:‭8‬ KJV)

    The Power is With Us
His power is with us as we allow our bodies to be used as a living sacrifice to Jesus. When we receive the holy Spirit we are able to have God’s power! It’s not for us. It’s not for selfish gain. It’s fir the glory of God. We use this power to witness with boldness do that others may be drawn to Chirst too.

  29. Verse 14 MSG “They agreed they were in this for good, completely together in prayer, the women included. Also Jesus’ mother, Mary, and his brothers.” Same verses AMP “All of these with their minds in full agreement devoted themselves steadfastly to prayer, [waiting together] with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.” This reminds me of Four 40….we may not have understood the beginning concept; but, IN obedience and IN prayer together we will wait upon IT.

  30. 2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:

Jesus made sure his disciples were trained and ready to teach the commandments to the whole world.

  31. The Church Is Born

Something new is about to happen. The womb of history is ready to deliver and the birth of the church will take place. The Holy Spirit is descending in power. Take a close look at who is gathered and praying as a preamble to this Spirit-filled delivery. Women are present along with the disciples. There is even special mention that Mary, the physical mother of Jesus is part of this small group. The one who gave birth to the Son of God is also present at the birth of the church. In a culture where the place of women was downplayed, we see the role of godly women elevated. Women were pivotal in the plan of God at the starting of the church and continue to be a part of what God is doing today.

  32. 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

When we receive the Holy Ghost we are given this great power. This is not that we may impress people but impact lives with the message of salvation. The Word says that we shall be witnesses. We have to share how this experience changed our live and invite people to experience IT, the HOLY SPIRIT

  33. v 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

GOD gave birth to a Church that HE designed to grow, be active, passionate and powerful.
” Unless a person is born again he cannot ever see
( meaning to know or experience) the Kingdom of GOD” John 3:3

  34. 7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Some things aren’t ment for us to take to understanding. But one day we will know by the Holy Ghost from God! This is by Gods time not by our time! 🙂

  35. 20 For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick

God doesn’t need anyone in particular but he uses particular people. I believe if Judas hadn’t have taken the deal to betray Jesus it would have had to fall on one of the other deciples. Someone had to fulfill the horrible cursed position of him that started Jesus journey to the cross. I’m humbled that Jesus would chose me to be in a more honorable position of being used, but if I check out one day I know that God will replace me and the kingdom will continue to move forward.
