Acts 11

1 And the apostles and brethren that were in Judaea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.

2 And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him,

3 Saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them.

4 But Peter rehearsed the matter from the beginning, and expounded it by order unto them, saying,

5 I was in the city of Joppa praying: and in a trance I saw a vision, A certain vessel descend, as it had been a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came even to me:

6 Upon the which when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.

7 And I heard a voice saying unto me, Arise, Peter; slay and eat.

8 But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth.

9 But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

10 And this was done three times: and all were drawn up again into heaven.

11 And, behold, immediately there were three men already come unto the house where I was, sent from Caesarea unto me.

12 And the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting. Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered into the man’s house:

13 And he shewed us how he had seen an angel in his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter;

14 Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.

15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.

16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.

17 Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?

18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

19 Now they which were scattered abroad upon the persecution that arose about Stephen travelled as far as Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but unto the Jews only.

20 And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus.

21 And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.

22 Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch.

23 Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord.

24 For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord.

25 Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul:

26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

27 And in these days came prophets from Jerusalem unto Antioch.

28 And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit that there should be great dearth throughout all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius Caesar.

29 Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judaea:

30 Which also they did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.

  1. 17. Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?

I can just imagine Peter saying, “So, what did you want me to do, tell God that He was wrong, or that He didn’t know what He was doing?”

Sometimes we try to tell God His business and He is wanting us to just be us and let Him be God.

    Acts 5:39 KJV
But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.

  2. Acts 11:7
And I heard voice saying unto me, Arise,Peter slay and eat

so this talks about Jesus to peter to arise he did what Jesus told him to do and he listened and did it we must do the same too . AMEN

  3. 15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.

The Holy Ghost will fall during the preaching of the word of God! This is God’s plan for the Holy Ghost to fall while the man of God is delivering the word from God. Through time we have changed this, but God would love to move through his word. This is why we have prayer before church, to prepare our hearts to be sensitive to the moving of the Spirit of God. When we learn to let God have his way in our hearts and his services we will be a step ahead in our walk with God!!

  4. Acts 11:14 (NASB Strong’s)
14 and he will speak words to you by which you will be saved, you and all your household.’

This man who already was religious, giving, and served God was in a position that God wanted to take him to another level. God was going to provide a way for him and his household to be born again.

Peter spoke the message and the people responded in repentance. Soon after the Holy Spirit fell on each of them.

As children of God it is incumbent upon us to be willing to speak the words by which people will be saved.

We must remember Cornelius had been prepared by God to receive the words. We too must help prepare people to receive the words. Sometimes it only take a few minutes, but other times it takes a stronger connection, a friendship, a relationship for someone to take that next step.

The main point here is that the spirit told Peter what to do. If we will have our ears tuned in to the voice of the spirit he will instruct us how and what to say and do to see people we meet saved.

  5. 26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
30 Which also they did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.

When Barnebus went to get Saul, his name changed to Paul. Why does the writer leave his name as Saul?
Is it so we can associate who he is or is there a deeper meaning?
Has he still not put away the old man (totally)?
    Was the writer holding unforgiveness?

When we were baptized, we took on the name of CHRIST. How many know us as being a CHRISTIAN and how many know us as the same old man we used to be?

  6. Saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them. (‭Acts‬ ‭11‬:‭3‬ KJV)

Whoa… So you went to their house and hunged out with them? Are you crazy their not like us their sinners!

Sometimes we gotta go in the trenches and fight the wars in there. We have to go to the ghetto the rich places and the country. and preach JESUS christ. Because salvation is not only for me and you but for every single one in this world. To the rich the poor the homeless the depressed the homosexuals the thiefs and liars. The ones in prison with no hope. We are all sinners we all need a savior.

They too also have a chance of this salvation! Jesus also died for them too! Who are we to keep this from them!

When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life. (‭Acts‬ ‭11‬:‭18‬ KJV)

7 And I heard a voice saying unto me, Arise, Peter; slay and eat.
8 But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth.
9 But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

The Hasidic law of food is derived from Deuteronomy 14; no pigs, no fish that do not both fins and scales. I understand there are only 24 books in the Hebrew bible and that the first five are considered the books of law: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, Samuel, Kings, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, The Twelve minor prophets, Psalms, Proverbs, Job, Song of Songs, Ruth, Lamentations, Ecclesiastes, Esther, Daniel, Ezra/Nehemia, Chronicles.

The Jewish faith does not believe Jesus fulfilled the requirements of the Messiah. According to their faith, Jesus did not 1 – build the temple, 2 – gather all Jews back to Israel, 3 – usher in world peace and 4 – spread the knowledge of God.

Every service we pray for Jerusalem/Israel; we should consider focusing this prayer for their understanding to who Jesus is.

  8. As in the previous chapter, it is reiterated that IT is for everybody. Can you imagine if we too, like Cornelius are obedient and receive that promise “He’ll tell you something that will save your life—in fact, you and everyone you care for.’”?

When people in FW begin to get wind of whats going on at POFW, as in verses 22-24 MSG say “they sent Barnabas to Antioch to check on things. As soon as he arrived, he saw that God was behind and in it all. He threw himself in with them, got behind them, urging them to stay with it the rest of their lives. He was a good man that way, enthusiastic and confident in the Holy Spirit’s ways. The community grew large and strong in the Master.” There are so many hungry souls out there, that when they come to check it out; they too will throw themselves in and get behind everything that God is doing to reach our city.

  9. 17 Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?

18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

The gentiles were excited to realize that God had granted them the same opportunity to be saved as the Jews. My family and some many others today get the chance to be saved because Christ died for everyone the Jew and Gentiles.

  10. iLove to eat More Word
26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

Here we find the true definition of a Christian, it is someone that’s been discipled and someone that has been taught the true doctrines of Christ.

  11. 14 Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.

15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.

The same power that raised Jesus from the dead and the same power that fell on the people in the upper room is still with us today. And when we speak the word of God to people, that same power is within us and we can give that to other people who need to feel his mighty presence. We need to speak the word of God with boldness to people who are crying out and in need of salvation

  12. MORE COMMITED TO MY INVOLVEMENT

29 Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judaea:

GOD knows our ability. He knows when we give sacrificially and he knows when we withhold. Love, serving and giving are words that best describe the life of JESUS while here on earth. As Christian believers, we are called to follow HIS example in Loving, serving and giving.

As we determine as the disciples here in Acts 11, we will find ourselves engaged and involved in the relief of those that are suffering spiritually, emotionally and financially. iPray JESUS helps us to recognize opportunities to BLESS others with the favor that GOD has bestowed on us.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  13. Critical Care

2 So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcised believers criticized him 3 and said, “You went into the house of uncircumcised men and ate with them.”

We are all critics, we all have prefrences and opinions. We learn a certain way of living and doing things through our upbringing. Jews were taught from an early age who they were and who their peers were. They were ignorant of Peters vision and message from God. Peter was given the opportunity of critisizm. In order to handle critisizm we have to be like Peter and understand ignornace, and be willing to become transparent to expose the prophetic will of God at work. Not everyone will understand why we do milk and break outreachs, or dress up crazy and do G-Force skits for children. The simple point is that it’s not about us, in fact they critisized Jesus’ teaching why would the ignorant approve of us. Critisizm is the opportunity to shine for Jesus. Offenses will come, but they don’t have to effect us. It is a tool for us to dirrect them to Jesus just as Peter did here.

  14. 15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.

Peter came back to deal with people’s carnality! How dare you baptize gentiles??? Peter then take them back to the word of GOD!!! It is in those moment when everyone contended with you that we MUST REMEMBER THE WORD OF GOD!!!! Peter remind them of what John the Baptist said, and then reminded them that we are but a vessel of God’s will with his last words: God gave them the gift of the Holy Ghost and who am I to get in the way of God’s doing?? PRAISE GOD FOR WE ARE SAFE BY HIS BLOOD AND THE WORD OF HIS TESTIMONY.

  15. 15 “As I began to speak,” Peter continued, “the Holy Spirit fell on them, just as he fell on us at the beginning. 16 Then I thought of the Lord’s words when he said, ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ 17 And since God gave these Gentiles the same gift he gave us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to stand in God’s way?” 18 When the others heard this, they stopped objecting and began praising God. They said, “We can see that God has also given the Gentiles the privilege of repenting of their sins and receiving eternal life.”

It states “when the others heard this, they stopped objecting…” you can’t argue with the truth! So just praise Him anyway!

  16. 14 Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.
15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.

Amen!!! All shall be saved and recieve the Holy Ghost! There will be a day where everybody in your home will be saved..no need to worry because it’s a promise! Nothing better than recieve the Holy Ghost and just pouring out His Spirit on you and filling you from head to toe 🙂 the Holy Ghost not only gives you that power of an overcomer but also gives you that peace, calmness, security, love, guidance, and etc that NOTHING in this world can give you. The experience of the Holy Ghost is amazing all you have to do is want it and God will flow in you.
The river of living water!! Hallelujah!!

  17. 20, “And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus.”
21, “And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.”
22, “Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch.”
23, “Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted (to urge earnestly by advice, warning, etc.; admonish strongly) them all, that with purpose (determination, intention or aim) of heart they would cleave (to adhere, cling; to be faithful) unto the Lord.”

We should encourage and exhort our new brothers and sisters in the Lord to purpose in their heart to cleave, cling to, and be faithful to the Lord at all times. We should give them a word of encouragement to help them to keep pressing on for Jesus.

  18. 21 God was pleased with what they were doing and put his stamp of approval on it – quite a number of the Greeks believed and turned to the Master.
I think that God gave us his stamp of approval last night when we all became in one place and one accord. I’m quilty of this also, but how come we can’t have that kind of service everytime we come to church?
“What do you think you’re doing rubbing shoulders with that crowd, eating what is prohibited and ruining our good name?” V.3
We can’t be hollier than thou and not eat wtih the back sliders or lost souls, however if you have troubles fighting off the spirits that they are doing its good that you don’t go to those places. For instance, if you are a deleivered from drugs, alcohol, etc don’t go around those things. If you are hanging with people that only want to gossip about the church don’t hang with them.
Let not then your good be evil spoken of. Romans 14:16
For instance, say you are going to the bar with someone and you don’t drink you say you are going to go there to be a driver of the one you are with, 1st of all don’t let your friend drink and if someone sees you going in there they are going to think you are drinking. You know you are not but this goes to the verse let not your good be evil spoken of. We have to be careful who we hang with and what we are talking about.

  19. And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.

    Pentecost is alive and well.

I’m a Pentecostal. I am not ashamed. Just read the book of Acts we are still the same.
Thank you Jesus for the Holy Ghost. The gift that you gave. We all have the opportunity to receive the gift.

  20. 4 But Peter rehearsed the matter from the beginning, and expounded it by order unto them, saying,

Peter was able to rehearse what had happened to him, and I’m sure this was not the first time nor the last.

Our testimony will outlive us only if we tell it. If we don’t share it with anyone it will go to the grave with us, but if we share it, it can become a legacy that will live on and on. We all have different testimonies, some from deliverance of alcohol, drug addictions, some from the saving and keeping power to have never tasted of the worldly vices, but regardless it is OUR testimony and evidence of the love and mercy of Jesus Christ. Let Jesus Out and it will produce the book of Acts REVIVAL!

  21. 29 Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judaea:

30 Which also they did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.

We see here some of the qualities of Christians and just as they we must be more committed to serve and help out. It even extends to far beyond our local church but brothers in the faith all over. Who knows that at any time our prayers and alms may come up for a memorial before God too. To God be all the glory.

  22. 14 Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.

15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.

16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.

I pray that the power of the Holy Ghost will fall on us, like it did then! That God’s power would consume us and our souls will be set on fire for him!!

  23. 8 “I replied, ‘Surely not, Lord! Nothing impure or unclean has ever entered my mouth.’

9“The voice spoke from heaven a second time, ‘Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.’ 10 This happened three times, and then it was all pulled up to heaven again.

At one point, I did not understand these verse, I too was like Peter thinking about eating animals for food. But spiritually, now I realize, the Word of God is for everyone, not only for the Jews but for the Gentiles also. No one is unworthy to receive his Word, to be baptized and receive the Holy Ghost.

  24. 7 And I heard a voice saying unto me, Arise, Peter; slay and eat.

8 But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth.

9 But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

I thank God because just as these things were unclean, so was I. Yet because of his goodness and His mercy he has cleansed me by the blood of Jesus! Thank you Lord

  25. 15 “As I began to speak,” Peter continued, “the Holy Spirit fell on them, just as he fell on us at the beginning.
16 Then I thought of the Lord’s words when he said, ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’
17 And since God gave these Gentiles the same gift he gave us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to stand in God’s way?” (NLT)

Sometimes we just need to move and let God’s will be done. Don’t be so caught up in your own plans that you lose sight of why you were called to serve. Our job is to teach and lead souls as Christ would have us. Just get out of the way, get out of your head and let God have His way!

  26. 15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.

This what everyone needs to experience. The Holy Ghost falling and shifting the atmosphere. God is able to do it because all power us in his hand.

  27. And the apostles and brethren that were in Judaea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God. And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him, Saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them. And I heard a voice saying unto me, Arise, Peter; slay and eat. But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth. But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common. And this was done three times: and all were drawn up again into heaven. And, behold, immediately there were three men already come unto the house where I was, sent from Caesarea unto me. (‭Acts‬ ‭11‬:‭1-11‬ KJV)And the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting. Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered into the man’s house: And he shewed us how he had seen an angel in his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter; Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved. And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning. Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God? When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life. (‭Acts‬ ‭11‬:‭12-18‬ KJV)

  28. “But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.” One would be wise to obey God (Jesus), as Peter did. Dear God, help me to be observant and mindful of what you have cleansed; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. In God we trust! What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  29. 15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.
How can we withstand the will of God? He will be glorified no matter what we choose to do.

  30. When they heard these things they fell silent. And they glorified God, saying, “Then to the Gentiles also God has granted repentance that leads to life.” (‭Acts‬ ‭11‬:‭18‬ ESV)

Thank you Jesus for your salvation that you have extended to us.  He has a plan for us. And he’s always looking out for our good.

  31. 11:15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.

10:44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.

The power of the spoken word. We see this in the beginning, “And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.” He didn’t lift a finger to create light. He just spoken it into existence. What Power!?
I believe we are at a point were the the power of the spoken word will be enough to fill hungry people with the Holy Ghost, that at the mention of His name, knee will bow, tongue as of Fire will confess, Jesus is Lord. The Pentecost Experience like Peter said, like we felt and were filled in the beginning, will be experienced.

    EXPERIENCE IT!

  32. The Spirit told me to Go

MSG:11-14 “Just then three men showed up at the house where I was staying, sent from Caesarea to get me. The Spirit told me to go with them, no questions asked. So I went with them, I and six friends, to the man who had sent for me. He told us how he had seen an angel right in his own house, real as his next-door neighbor, saying, ‘Send to Joppa and get Simon, the one they call Peter. He’ll tell you something that will save your life—in fact, you and everyone you care for.’

It is so important for us to following the leading of the spirit. I often wonder home may times in my life I have I missed talking to a person or missed going somewhere that God needed me to. “no questions asked” questioning tends to lead to missed moments. Faith is not about how many moments we have but about how many moments we fail to miss. We cannot allow questions to cloud our vision but we must allow faith to lead us to vision, mission, and purpose. Amen!

  33. 45-48 AD

Acts 11:28 One of them, named Agabus, got up and predicted by the Spirit that a severe famine was about to come over the whole inhabited world. (This took place during the reign of Claudius.)

This famine is well known in history. This passage is referring to the early part of that period. By this time, we are approximately 10 to 12 years after the conversion of Paul.

  34. When the others heard this, they stopped objecting and began praising God. They said, “We can see that God has also given the Gentiles the privilege of repenting of their sins and receiving eternal life.” (‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭11‬:‭18‬ NLT)

We can’t say who can or cannot receive the gift of the Holy Ghost… We should praise Him for anyone who receives this mighty gift. The more culture the better…We need more deaf, blind, Asian, Hispanic, etc.!

  35. Brotherly Love

29 Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judaea:

30 Which also they did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.

True brotherly love means stepping out of our comfort zone and circle of usual friends and reaching for the brotherhood of God’s Kingdom. The Body of Christ is called to not simply exist tandem with one another but to be knit together and love with a pure heart fervently. Wonderful things can happen we are sensitive to the Lord’s prompting to show brotherly love to others.

    1 Peter 1:22
Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

  36. 23 When he arrived and saw this evidence of God’s blessing, he was filled with joy, and he encouraged the believers to stay true to the Lord.NLT

We need to stay true to God no matter what our circumstance is he never left our side so why would we leave him? God made us to worship him so that’s what I’m going to do!!

  37. Peter !!!! 7. And I heard a voice saying unto me, Arise, Pe’-ter: slay and eat. 8. But I said, Not so, Lord, for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth. 9. But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common. 10. And this was done three times: and all were drawn up again into heaven. We need to listen to Jesus when he speaks !!!!

  38. vss. 15-16 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.
v16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.

The Holy Ghost makes all the difference in the world.
It’s life changing . HIS POWER gives us power for spiritual growth, and bringing us into the blessing of our eternal life in a heavenly home .

    MORE HOLY GHOST

  39. The power of the Lord was with them, and a large number of these Gentiles believed and turned to the Lord. (‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭11‬:‭21‬ NLT)

For the mighty power of the lord was with them, for their ministry was blessed and multiplied, for the lords results

  40. A great number believed and turned to the lord a ministry can’t turn people to the lord unless the hand of the lord is with them but you can turn people to personality, social club, church or an institution with the hand of the lord in Jesus name amen!!!!

  41. 17 If then God gave the same gift to them as he gave to us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could stand in God’s way?” (ESV) Acts 11:17
