Acts 1

1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,

2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:

3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;

11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

12 Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day’s journey.

13 And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.

14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

15 And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,)

16 Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus.

17 For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry.

18 Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.

19 And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.

20 For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let another take.

21 Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,

22 Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.

23 And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.

24 And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen,

25 That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.

26 And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

  1. 3. To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

infallible – Incapable of making mistakes or being wrong
To all the skeptics: there is no doubt, He Is Alive!

  2. Thank you Lord for your promises. Some read these scriptures and do not realize that these are OUR promises, as Acts 2:39 AMP says “For the promise [of the Holy Spirit] is to and for you and your children, and to and for all that are far away, [even] to and for as many as the Lord our God invites and bids to come to Himself.”

Verse 24 AMP “And they prayed and said, You, Lord, Who know all hearts ([e]their thoughts, passions, desires, appetites, purposes, and endeavors), indicate to us which one of these two You have chosen”. God knows your true hearts desire as Psalm 37:4 AMP says “Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart.”

  3. 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

Jesus promised us power after the Holy Ghost comes upon us, power to become witnesses. The greatest blessing in living for God is to be a witness for God and see people’s lives change.

  4. 10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;

11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

We should keep our focus on heaven but not to the extent that we neglect the ministry of evangelism that we are called to.

  5. Get to work

11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

I found it like, hey guys what are you doing staring up, when there is still so much to do before His return. Go receive the power from above and be my witnesses, tell everyone to the ends of the world. Rev 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

  6. Acts 1:8, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses (a person who saw, or can give a firsthand account of, something) unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”

1 Peter 3:15, “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.”

When Jesus fills us the Holy Ghost, He gives us power to be a witness. Only You can be a witness (give a firsthand account of) of how Jesus saved you and changed your life and gave you a hope of a better life.

So, we always have to be ready to be a Witness and Share our Testimony.

  7. The heart of man

During this time, Peter stood up in the company—there were about 120 of them in the room at the time—and said, “Friends, long ago the Holy Spirit spoke through David regarding Judas, who became the guide to those who arrested Jesus. That Scripture had to be fulfilled, and now has been. Judas was one of us and had his assigned place in this ministry.

“As you know, he took the evil bribe money and bought a small farm. There he came to a bad end, rupturing his belly and spilling his guts. Everybody in Jerusalem knows this by now; they call the place Murder Meadow. It’s exactly what we find written in the Psalms: Let his farm become haunted So no one can ever live there. “And also what was written later: Let someone else take over his post. (‭Acts‬ ‭1‬:‭15-20‬ MSG)

We all have a destination in our lives, and it’s by the choices that we desire to take that will lead us there, whether good or bad. A path to righteousness or simply a dead end. The expectation to your life is In your hands. It’s the power of choice.

As for judas he chose his destination. He was caught up in fulfilling the desires of his flesh. It led him down the wrong road of eternity…..a spiritual death!!!

Judas decided to ‘disconnect’ himself from the church, he fell into sin, pride settled in, then he committed spiritual suicide.
There seems to be way to many people committing suicide in the church nowadays, and it’s so sad to see.
Please don’t all pride to settle in your hearts. We all have choices to make. But my prayer is to be humble, and repent daily. Don’t let your heart be hardened.

This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Galatians 5:16

  8. 7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

We know JESUS as the ONE TRUE GOD, KING OF KINGS, LORD OF LORDS, THE GREAT I AM and here HE is telling us, “I’M NOT GOING TO TELL YOU”, HE REFERS TO HIMSELF AS THE FATHER, HE DOESN’T SAY MY FATHER.

  9. The council of the twelve.

22 Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.

We also see the “Council of the twelve,” when we look at the Old Testament. When the twelve spies went into the promise land.

The meaning of 12, which is considered a perfect number, is that it symbolizes God’s power and authority, as well as serving as a perfect governmental foundation.

So the beginning of the church had authority. Godly authority. We must have that authority in our lives.

  10. And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen, That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place. (‭Acts‬ ‭1‬:‭24-25‬ KJV)

    Don’t drop the ball.

  11. 7 He replied, “The Father alone has the authority to set those dates and times, and they are not for you to know.
8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (NLT)

As a child I learned quickly, if it was for you to know, then you would’ve been told. In other words, focus on your own business and the job you are supposed to be doing, and quit worrying about everything and everyone else. Just the same, we need to remember we are called to be His witnesses, to go and reach the souls of this world all to the glory of God. Don’t be so worried or distracted by other things, especially if they’re not of your concern. I’m fixing my eyes on You Jesus!

  12. 1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,

These people were given instructions and told to wait, be faithful, tarry until……. We have been given 66 books of instructions and told to be faithful, consistent, work until He comes. We must not get ahead of His plan, or fall behind. Just be faithful and work until He comes. Our promise is not only the infilling of His Spirit within us but our reward is eternity forever with the King of Kings. Our goal is to take as many as we can with us. So let’s get busy and do His work while it is yet day.

  13. All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers. (‭Acts‬ ‭1‬:‭14‬ ESV)

devoting- give all or a large part of one’s time or resources to (a person, activity, or cause).

What do we spend the majority of our time on? That is where our heart is and that’s what we devoted to you. I pray Lord hungry would fall upon the Pentecostals of Fort Worth that would cause us to devote yourselves to prayer and the studying of your Word.

  14. THE PAINFUL PROCESS OF REPLACING BACKSLIDERS

Backsliding is birthed in the process of thinking “they can’t do this without me”. We cannot know the mind of Judas when temptation turned to deception and deception turned to betrayal. However somewhere in the process, he became a legend in his own mind. The “they can’t do this without me” attitude revealed itself in the betrayal of JESUS.

Most often with backsliders, they go on to their judgement and are usually only missed a short period of time. However the painstaking process of replacing Leadership is a great burden on those that remain. A righteous Judas means a multiplication of ministry not a replacement of ministry.

If you have a place, keep your place, guard your position in JESUS Kingdom with prayer, worship, bible study and serving in HIS Kingdom through the local church.

  15. iLove to eat More Word

Acts 1:3 NLT During the forty days after His crucifixion, He appeared to the apostles from time to time, and He proved to them in many ways that He was actually alive. And He talked to them about the Kingdom of God.

Wow, this is an amazing scripture. Why, well one day pastor was teaching and he mentioned this scripture. Well, I had never really paid attention to it until he explained that the disciples only had to wait in Jerusalem for 10 days. I had assumed that they had waited for all 40 days. This scripture debunks that commonly accepted myth. Which in all reality makes the loss of the other 380 disciples that much more intriguing. Nevertheless, this is a great scripture and the insight into the days before Pentecost is interesting.

  16. 23 And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.

The wisest thing one can do concerning any desicion is t pray and seek the Lord for Guidance, especially in things concerning the ministry and the Kigndom of God. The Lord is ready to tell us. If we are ready to ask and listen.

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. (‭Proverbs‬ ‭3‬:‭5-6‬ KJV)

  17. Waiting on the Lord

As humans we are impatient by nature. This the “Now” generation. We want communication, results, and our hopes and dreams right now. Children can’t wait for Christmas and birthdays. Teenagers can’t wait to be adults. Young adults can’t wait to start a career and a family. Seasoned adults can’t wait and retire. Patience is a virtue and the wise will pray for the patience of the Lord. Patience is a learned and applied discipline.

Jesus tells the disciples to stay in Jerusalem and wait on the promised gift of the Holy Ghost. He even explains that John baptized with water and that He was going to baptize them with the Holy Ghost. The whole purpose of John’s ministry and Jesus’ death and ressurrection rests in this last step of salvation to be revealed and recieved. Staying put, and waiting sounds like an easy task, until you try it. The strength to wait on the Lords timing is in the ministry he has entrusted us with. Staying faithful to the work of the Lord, places us in position for the miraculous headed our way.

  18. “And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.” Judas actions were recorded for all to read, even unto this day. One’s own actions are also recorder by the Judge (Jesus), and will be revealed one day. Dear God, please forgive and help me to be more like you, so that my day of judgement may be acceptable to you; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. In God we trust! What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  19. Taken up !!!! 8. But ye shall receive power, after that the Ho’-ly Ghost is come upon you; and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Je-ru’-sa-lem, and in all Ju-dae’-a, and in Sa-ma’-ri-a, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. 9. And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. 10. And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Acts 10 : 3 11. Which also said, Ye men of Gal’-I-lee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Je’-sus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. Thank you Jesus for Holy Ghost and Fire !!!!

  20. See we must get the word out…………share with someone….whomever might listen!

8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

  21. Acts 1:3

Jesus appeared to the apostles, thereby proving that he was alive, and spoke of things concerning the kingdom of God; the risen Jesus teaches thus no new (gnostic) doctrine but that which had been taught during the ministry (Weiser 55). Kingdom of God is used several times in Acts as a general term covering the whole of the Christian proclamation (1:3; 8:12; 19:8; 20:25 (here without God); 28:23, 31). Possibly elsewhere but very probably at this point it is used in order to establish a link between the message of Jesus after the resurrection and that which he had proclaimed during his ministry; also to prepare for v. 6. From Acts alone it is impossible to derive a clear and comprehensive view of what the phrase means; seriously to discuss its use in the gospel is in this place equally impossible. It seems to bear, in Lk., a somewhat wider range of meaning than occurs in the other synoptic gospels; this prepares for the wider use of the phrase in Acts. It is a future good, for whose coming men may pray (e.g. Lk. 11:2), as they did in Judaism (Lk. 23:51). It is near at hand (Lk. 10:9, 11). In the presence of Jesus and his work (especially his attack on the kingdom of Satan) it may be said to have come already (Lk. 11:20). It is God’s gift to his own, who manifest that they are his own (Lk. 6:20; 9:62; 12:32), and though they suffer now they will enjoy the gift when the appointed time comes (Lk. 13:28, 29; cf. Acts 14:22). It is impossible to answer the question when the kingdom will come (Lk. 17:20). It is an inward, spiritually possessed thing (Lk. 17:21—a verse often differently interpreted; see Marshall ad loc.). In the present verse the phrase looks forward to the question asked by the apostles in v. 6. The word βασιλεία was always open to misinterpretation in terms of earthly sovereignty (cf. 17:7); the Ascension and the gift of the Spirit were, in Luke’s view, necessary before even the chosen disciples could understand the true meaning of the kingdom. See further on v. 6. Schneider (193) goes too far in saying that Acts speaks not of the coming (Kommen) but of the nature (Wesen) of the kingdom; Luke assumes both, but does little to define either.

    C. K. Barrett, A Critical and Exegetical Commentary on the Acts of the Apostles, International Critical Commentary (Edinburgh: T&T Clark., 2004), 70–71.

  22. Gods plan will continue

25 That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.

Gods will is that those in ministry stay in ministry,
But if one falls, God will raise another up because his plan will continue no matter why the situation or circumstance. His plan is settled and there is nothing anyone of us can do to stop it.

  23. Acts 1:9-11 (NETFull)
9 After he had said this, while they were watching, he was lifted up and a cloud hid him from their sight. 10 As they were still staring into the sky while he was going, suddenly two men in white clothing stood near them 11 and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand here looking up into the sky? This same Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will come back in the same way you saw him go into heaven.”

    Luke 21:28 (NLT)
28 So when all these things begin to happen, stand and look up, for your salvation is near!”

The Angels stopped them from looking up. There was still work to be done. They were soon to receive the promise of the father and would begin the process to evangelize the world.

In Luke 21 it’s as if the command is reversed. Look up because Jesus is coming back. Now the work has been done and you will see him return in glory.

We aren’t don’t working yet but soon we will end this journey. We must work while it is day because the night comes when no man can work.

  24. 1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,

I still haven’t forgotten the preaching Pastor gave us about this chapter on DO AND TEACH. We must be disciples first befor we can teach. Doing the things that God did and is still doing today because His word says we shall see these things and yet we shall do greater things. If were Christians we must do what Jesus did, be Christ minded doing EVEYTHING in the name of JESUS!!!
Teach-means to help others, instruct them, deliver, instruct subject.
Help the ones that are in need. Sometimes all people need is a lift and claiming the name of Jesus is able to do all things. Testifying of the great things Jesus has done in our lives. We don’t need to be telling people what and not to do but helping them and being able to show them with the Word that Jesus is the answer to EVERYTHING. Spread the love Jesus has toward everybody!!!!

  25. Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus. (‭Acts‬ ‭1‬:‭16‬ KJV)

    Must Needs
JESUS said in the scriptures that he must needs go to Samaria so that he could see the woman at the well. Now in Acts Peter is saying that the scriptures must needs have been fulfilled. That means that it had to happen. It was basically a requirement. It must needs happen. In this case he was speaking if the betrayal of JESUS. By the way–if JESUS was never betrayed, then he would have had no reason to die on the cross. No death on the cross means no forgiveness of sins. It had to happen. As terrible as the event was in history, it gave place for redemption. Thank you Jesus for your precious blood that covers me and forgives my sins.

  26. 1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,

It seems to me that Verse 2 is so overlooked in the denominal churches today….meaning that they don’t receive a message from Jesus through the gifts of the spirit in tongues with the interpretation following. But through teaching there can be understanding as Paul demonstrates all through the Book of Acts.

  27. 4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

  28. 20 For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let another take.

God always has another person available to do His will should we choose to fall away.
“God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called.”

  29. 3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

    His passion.

It refers to the moment from when he stood before Pilote, to when he died on the cross. Just two even ponder on what He did for the whole world, taking all sin present, past, and future upon himself.
We have understand that this was the will of the a Father for his life to die in such a manner for everyone. Many times we have trouble do Gods will for our life and be live it’s because it is not our passion. Can you imagine being given to Gods will like Christ was to God will for his life?
We would have limitless experiences in ministry.

  30. Faithful From The Beginning

21 Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,

22 Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.

Barsabas and Matthias had both walk with Jesus and the Disciples since the very beginning, yet they walked in obscurity until this point in Acts. However, from the way they are spoken of, it becomes apparently that obscurity did not lessen the impact of their ministry. No matter what place we find ourselves, and whether we are known or unknown, we have the opportunity to be used by God if we are willing and obedient. We must remain faithful and allow Jesus to work all things out.

    Matthew 24:45-46
45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?

46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.

    3 John 1:4 AMP
I have no greater joy than this, to hear that my [spiritual] children are living their lives in the Truth.

  31. John baptized with water, but in just a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” (‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬ NLT)

Not many of the days from now and forever they will not know that the Promise of the Father would come, for that he is alpha and omega the beginning and end the first and the last that is too come, but not immediately. It would be days from now, but not many days.ForJesus said that his purpose is not telling his people exactly when he would come down from heaven to the face of the earth for the very last time. For that We shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit, in something; that even as John baptized people in water, so these disciples would be “immersed” with the Holy Spirit!!!! In Jesus Name Amen !!!!

  32. 4 Once when he was eating with them, he commanded them, “Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you the gift he promised, as I told you before. 5 John baptized with water, but in just a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

Simple obedience and patience are truly rewarding. Have faith, stay strong, don’t grow weary.

    Galatians 6:9
And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not
