Acts 11

1 And the apostles and brethren that were in Judaea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.

2 And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him,

3 Saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them.

4 But Peter rehearsed the matter from the beginning, and expounded it by order unto them, saying,

5 I was in the city of Joppa praying: and in a trance I saw a vision, A certain vessel descend, as it had been a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came even to me:

6 Upon the which when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.

7 And I heard a voice saying unto me, Arise, Peter; slay and eat.

8 But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth.

9 But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

10 And this was done three times: and all were drawn up again into heaven.

11 And, behold, immediately there were three men already come unto the house where I was, sent from Caesarea unto me.

12 And the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting. Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered into the man’s house:

13 And he shewed us how he had seen an angel in his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter;

14 Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.

15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.

16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.

17 Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?

18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

19 Now they which were scattered abroad upon the persecution that arose about Stephen travelled as far as Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but unto the Jews only.

20 And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus.

21 And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.

22 Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch.

23 Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord.

24 For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord.

25 Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul:

26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

27 And in these days came prophets from Jerusalem unto Antioch.

28 And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit that there should be great dearth throughout all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius Caesar.

29 Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judaea:

30 Which also they did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.

  1. 1. And the apostles and brethren that were in Judaea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God

    15. And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.

    16. Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.

    They received the Word…
    He spoke the Word…
    He remembered the Word…

Nothing can take the place of The Word! David was a man after God’s own heart; look how often he talked about God’s Word. Soak it up like a sponge, because when the enemy squeezes you, carnality dripping out of you isn’t going to run him off.

  2. The truth its for all nations. Truth is for all culture’s and for all Walks of life it does not matter where you are from where you been God has given you the gift of Salavstion. To all nations to all his children. Thank you Jesus for given the crazy Mexicans like me a chance of life.

  3. 16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.

God also gave unto the Gentiles the Holy Ghost as well as the Jews. Peter said ; what was I, that I could withstand God?
Peter understood God had shown him in a trance what he wanted him to do, accept the truth God was going to allow anyone who repented the chance to receive the Holy Ghost.
Thank God he allowed all people the chance to be a part of this great Holy Ghost!

  4. The hand of The Lord on POFW!!

And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord. (‭Acts‬ ‭11‬:‭21‬ KJV)

And our eyes are seeing what The Lord is doing in our lives!!!! When unity, love, forgiveness, mercy, and grace is in our hearts to one another The Lord works in a mighty way. As it was seen last night. It’s not what we are doing, but what HE is doing. We are just vessels being used where His love is being channeled through and where He can be exalted and glorified in.

  5. Let the Church Rise

    Acts 11:29-30 (KJV Strong’s)
29 Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judaea: 30 Which also they did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.

The church was not a divided collection of individual works all focused on doing their own thing. They all worked together to help each other and fulfill the needs of the hour. Today more than ever before the cry rings forth for the Church, the bride of Christ to wake up, rise up, and unify. The walls of division, and separation must come down. We need there to be revelation granted to other denominations even if the oneness of God and the necessity to be born again. This world is getting darker but the light will shine greater! Where sin abounds grace does much more abound.

Rise up, be counted, it’s time to take your place. The name of Jesus is worthy to be praised. Our God is ready, his kingdom soon to come, satan’s defeated, the battle’s already won. Let the church rise up, take her place, declare the victory of the Lord in this place, rise up, show your strength lift up a banner of praise. No time to lose, No time to waste, the time is now don’t hesitate.

  6. Accountability

4 But Peter rehearsed the matter from the beginning, and expounded it by order unto them, saying,

Peter knew the apostles and brethren would have concern about what he had done. Breaking Jewish law of fellowshipping with uncircumcised people and eating unclean food could “ruin our good name – MSG”. I am thankful that I am accountable to my Pastor as well as several other brethren in the church. It makes me feel safe in my decisions. It is peaceful to have this security and council.

However, it is a difficult task to teach this accountability to young people. The Motion age group is a hard group to justify accountability. They just earned their “freedom”, they served their time as children and have now reached adulthood in age only; not necessarily in maturity, in some cases. Don’t give up on them. They need to experience their freedom but they also need to understand the safety in accountability. Keep digging. Keep teaching.

  7. 1 The news traveled fast and in no time the leaders and friends back in Jerusalem heard about it – heard that the non-Jewish “outsiders” were now “in.”

2 When Peter got back to Jerusalem, some of his old associates, concerned about circumcision, called him on the carpet:

3 “What do you think you’re doing rubbing shoulders with that crowd, eating what is prohibited and ruining our good name?”

4 So Peter, starting from the beginning, laid it out for them step-by-step: MSG
It’s funny how if we do something wrong the news is broadcasted to everyone, but if we do something good it don’t get around as fast. We have to be careful what we are doing and where we are going. We all work around someone that is not the same belief as us, but we still talk and laugh with them. We just have to know when to draw that line. I have always told my girls you don’t want your good works evil spoken of. Let not then your good be evil spoken of:Romans 14:16
That don’t mean be rude and not sit at the table with the sinner, be a light to them.

  8. 24 Barnabas was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and strong in faith. And many people were brought to the Lord.

What are others saying about you?

They knew Barnabas was a good man by his acts. They knew he was full of the spirit by the gifts he possessed.

Acts 4:36 And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus, 37 Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

Others will see your works and label you by them. Be a light unto this world, a living testimony!

  9. iLove to eat More Word

“But the voice from heaven spoke again: ‘Do not call something unclean if God has made it clean.’ (‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭11‬:‭9‬ NLT)

I thought it was pretty Interesting in the fact that Hebrews were unable to eat with Gentiles under the old priesthood. The old priesthood was the Levitical priesthood. Jesus became the high priest, when he entered into the heavens and put his blood on the Ark of the covenant in heaven .

  10. 17 And since God gave these Gentiles the same gift he gave us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to stand in God’s way?”
18 When the others heard this, they stopped objecting and began praising God. They said, “We can see that God has also given the Gentiles the privilege of repenting of their sins and receiving eternal life.” (NLT)

Just step aside and let God work! We should never let judgements take over and think oh well that person is just so unclean. I thank God for those unclean souls who have realized their sin and come hungry for God – I thank God for not being a respecter of persons because we too came unclean looking for a way to be made whole. Jesus! You are so amazing and I thank You for Your blood, love and mercy that washes and keeps me.

  11. MORE REVIVAL

The most cocnsistent fact in regards to the disciples in the book of Acts it that there was a relentless and unending desire to spread the gospel and the result was MORE REVIVAL.

Possibly we have become too focused on “winning souls” that we are missing the LORDS REVIVAL and the FRUIT of HIS SPIRIT producing the HARVEST.

    iRepent
    iPrasie
    iPray
    iWork
    iGIve
    iReap

  12. We must in these book of Acts times be sensitive to the prompting of the Holy Ghost, or listening to the voice of God. It just amazes me that they had no cell phones. They couldn’t use a computer or land line to call ahead to make sure that the other person would be there they just did what God told them to do.. Awesome!

  13. 9 But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

keeping in mind the work that GOD has done and is doing in us!!! Sometimes when certain situations arise, we tend to forget who we are IN CHRIST, BUT THANK GOD FOR THE HOLY GHOST!!!
WE SHOULD NO LONGER ACT COMMON !!!

  14. 24 For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord.

“full of the holy ghost” – what does that mean?

To be full means that it is a continual stream of spirit into our lives so that whatever we give out to others, it is replaced with new. When there is not a continual river flowing in, we become empty or stagnant. Daily we must be renewed, revived and rejuvenated and refreshed with HIS Spirit, praying in the Holy Ghost.

Jude 1:20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

  15. be separate, live different, live for God and be like a magnet so other people will want what you have, Jesus is the only way

  16. Amplified Version of Acts 11:20-23
20, But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who on returning to Antioch spoke to the Greeks also, proclaiming (to them) the good news (the Gospel) about the Lord Jesus.
21, And the presence of the Lord was with them with power, so that a great number (learned) to believe (to adhere to and trust in and rely on the Lord) and turned and surrendered themselves to him.
22, The rumors of this came to the ears of the church (assembly) in Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch.
23, When he arrived and saw what grace (favor) God was bestowing upon them, he was full of joy; and he continuously exhorted (warned, urged, and encouraged) them all to cleave unto and remain faithful to and devoted to the Lord with (resolute and steady) purpose of heart.

As we learned last night, Barnabas (the son of consolation) means encouragement.
So I find it no coincidence that they sent Barnabas to Antioch to exhort (warn, urge, and ENCOURAGE) the new believers in Christ. He was there to warn and ENCOURAGE them to cleave to, be faithul to, and be devoted to the Lord with purpose of heart.
We, too, must ENCOURAGE the new believers in our church to cleave to, be faithful to, and be devoted to the Lord with purpose of heart.

    ENCOURAGE someone today!

  17. 18When the others heard this, they stopped objecting and began praising God. They said, “We can see that God has also given the Gentiles the privilege of repenting of their sins and receiving eternal life.”

If we would stop objecting to the Word of God, and listen to what is being preached, we too could receive the blessings from God. But some are listening for any opportunity to object God’s word. I’m guilty of this also, but through prayer God gives me an understanding of his Word.

  18. 27 And in these days came prophets from Jerusalem unto Antioch.

28 And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit that there should be great dearth throughout all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius Caesar.

29 Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judaea:

God is not a respecter of persons and that is a great thing. We are granted the gift of the Holy Ghost. The church as well is here to help out all. This is why it’s important to give to missions and pray them as well. We are here to unify and stand for Jesus.

  19. 22 Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch.

23 Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord.

24 For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord.

What are people seeing in you? Are they seeing Jesus? Us as Christians are judged all across the nation, others can tell when we truly have God in us, and the things we say and actions we make are assumed that’s how all “Christians” act. So what message are we sending?

  20. vs.15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.
vs. 16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said , John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.

The Holy Ghost is a life changing experience empowering us for spiritual growth.

  21. He had to be told words to be saved and his house. The Word made flesh had to be shared, told, a testimony……………

14 Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.

15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.

When you witness the truth, a mighty outpouring of the Holy Ghost should be expected!

    “Be Blessed”…………

    ..

  22. 15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.

My prayer is that as we “The Church” allow God’s Word to enter into our spirit and transform us that one day we too will experience verse 15. Where we are so filled with the Word of God that as we talk to people the Holy Ghost falls on them.

Lord, fill us! Fill our souls fill out mouths that we may be vessels for Your use.

  23. 29 Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judaea:

We all have a job in the kingdom of God. Not everyone will have the titles of pastors or evangelist. Some might have door greeter or chair straitener. All these are jobs in the kingdom. Let’s do our part and work for God.

  24. Nothing Doubting

12 And the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting. Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered into the man’s house:

If we are really honest with ourselves we know when it is God, ourselves or the enemy leading us. When the Lord speaks something to you you are at peace. You feel certain and confident. You can find him easily to make sure you are in his will. You can go with Nothing Doubting. When it is anything else leading you you will have doubts. You will feel sick at times and not fully agree with it. You will not be able to find your answer in the Word of God clearly and you check and balances like your Pastor, wife, fellow servants of God will not be eager to join. When God speaks he lets more than one person know about it. The word saysin the mouth of two or three witnesses let every word be established.
When God speaks we do not have to doubt!

  25. 16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.

  26. 21 And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.

22 Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch.

When the hand of God is with us, that’s when it becomes our turn to believe and let our faith raise up to let God’s power grow inside us, which allows it to grow inside the people around us as well. And just like a wildfire, it quickly starts to spread. This is the wildfire we need in the church, the fire of revival to birthed in our souls. So that it can not only be preached in our communities but in our city, surrounding cities, states, nation, and the world.

  27. “Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.” Peter did his part and the people did their part. Salvation requires one to do something, which all have a part and all will give an account for one’s part. Dear God, let me hear and do my part; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. In God we trust! What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  28. 21 And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.

We should continue to strive to be what God wants us to be. God’s hand is with those that follow his word.

  29. 23 Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord.

24 For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord.

Barnabas didn’t come and quench the spirit. He arrived and rejoiced in what was happening! He encouraged them to continue and hold steadfast to God. And much people were added unto the lord. Barnabas kept the spirit of unity. Had he come in and cause division or strife, discouraged, or dis unified what was happening those many people wouldn’t have been added to the lord. Let us today watch what we say and let it be encouraging each other toward God.

  30. 24 For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord.

This is Amazing!!!! Because the good man was full of the HG AND FAITH, many people followed Jesus! The beautiful things that The Lord can do if we dedicate ourselves all to Him
4 and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.” Acts 6:4
When we overflow many will be Blessed and come to Jesus!!! Hallelujah! I BELIEVE AND RECIEVE IT !!!

  31. 17 Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?

18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.
How awesome that God gave his beautiful salvation to not just the Jews but to me and you also. It really shows the love of God and his mercy to all people. How blessed are we!

  32. And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him,

When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life. (‭Acts‬ ‭11‬:‭2, 18‬ KJV)

Peter contended with these men of faith for a great spiritual purpose. It was for be gathering of saints. He explained the working of the Holy Ghost to them. It sounds to me more like an explanation than contention though. I have seen contentio about th Holy Ghost before. Explanation with the help of the Holy Ghost is not he same as contention though because the Holy Ghost works on your side. I think it was more of a Holy Ghost revelationary explanation than an argument back and forth. (Just personal belief.)

  33. 15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.

It’s funny to see how even Peter struggled to do Gods will. God had already given him the victory but he as was still hesitant. He decided to bring along some witnesses with him to maybe testify if anything went wrong later. Maybe he was discipline his own disciples. Perhaps because Cornilious was a centurion of the Roman army he was intimidated. Regardless he obeyed. The word says that as he began to speak, the HG fell upon them.
I believe we are moving Into a new dimension of apostolic revival, that will turn this world up side down. Where we will no longer have to pray until we sweat enough that people will get the HG, I believe we and speak the Word, and at the sound of that word, the fire of the HG will take over!
    Revival Church! Revival!

  34. 15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.

  35. Historical Context

Claudius, the Roman emperor from a. d. 41 to 54, was an effective ruler, with the style of administration becoming less despotic and more bureaucratic during his tenure. He expanded the empire and improved roads and aqueducts in Italy and the provinces. Classical writers have reported, however, that the reign of Claudius was a period of distress and scarcity due to scanty harvests and other causes.
Early in his rule Claudius issued edicts favoring the Jews, reversing the policy of Caligula (Ac 37–41) and permitting Jews in all parts of the empire to freely observe their own laws and customs. Claudius made poor choices, however, in appointing procurators over Judea, and the situation there continued to deteriorate. Jews in Rome were not allowed to assemble because of their large number. Later, around the year 50, he expelled the Jews from Rome (18:2). The historian Suetonius (c. 70–130) recorded this event (Claudius, 25. 4), which is historically significant for its connection to the rise of Christianity. For the infant Christian church, the reign of Claudius was a relatively quiet environment in which to grow, in contrast to the tumultuous reign of his successor, the infamous Nero (r. 54–68).
    (Acts 11:1 ArchSB)

  36. So the disciples determined, every one according to his ability, to send relief to the brothers living in Judea. (‭Acts‬ ‭11‬:‭29‬ ESV)

Ability – possession of the means or skill to do something.

According to his ability… We each have what it takes.

  37. Barnabas !!!! 22. Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Je-ru’-sa-lem: and they sent forth Bar’-na-bas, that he should go as far as An’-ti-och. Acts 9 : 27 23. Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord. Acts 13 : 43 24. For he was a good man, and full of the Ho’-ly Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord. Acts 5 : 14 Jesus wants us to be full of the Holy Ghost and baptized in Jesus name in water and have faith .

  38. Remember The Stranger

    Exodus 12:49
One law shall be to him that is homeborn, and unto the stranger that sojourneth among you.

    Leviticus 25:23
23 The land shall not be sold for ever: for the land is mine, for ye are strangers and sojourners with me.

The Law gave commandments as to how Israel should lead their lives in worship before the Lord, but it also included a plan for the strangers among them. The Law was supposed to lead those strangers dwelling with them as well, and the Lord would remind the children of Israel periodically that they too were strangers with Him, sojourners traveling through a land that was not their own. The Lord made provisions for strangers in foreshadowing of Kingdom inheritance, and echoed this later when He stated in Matthew 5:17 that hadn’t come to destroy the Law but fulfill it. Calvary was a promise not only to the Jews but to the Strangers among them, as Peter saw at last displayed at Cornelius’ house.

    Ezekiel 47:23
And it shall come to pass, that in what tribe the stranger sojourneth, there shall ye give him his inheritance, saith the Lord God.

    Matthew 5:17
Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

    Romans 3:31
Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.
