Acts 14

1 And it came to pass in Iconium, that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed.

2 But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren.

3 Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands.

4 But the multitude of the city was divided: and part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles.

5 And when there was an assault made both of the Gentiles, and also of the Jews with their rulers, to use them despitefully, and to stone them,

6 They were ware of it, and fled unto Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and unto the region that lieth round about:

7 And there they preached the gospel.

8 And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother’s womb, who never had walked:

9 The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed,

10 Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.

11 And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men.

12 And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the chief speaker.

13 Then the priest of Jupiter, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people.

14 Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out,

15 And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:

16 Who in times past suffered all nations to walk in their own ways.

17 Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

18 And with these sayings scarce restrained they the people, that they had not done sacrifice unto them.

19 And there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead.

20 Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe.

21 And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch,

22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

23 And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.

24 And after they had passed throughout Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia.

25 And when they had preached the word in Perga, they went down into Attalia:

26 And thence sailed to Antioch, from whence they had been recommended to the grace of God for the work which they fulfilled.

27 And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.

28 And there they abode long time with the disciples.

  1. But when the disciples gathered about him, he rose up and entered the city, and on the next day he went on with Barnabas to Derbe. When they had preached the gospel to that city and had made many disciples, they returned to Lystra and to Iconium and to Antioch, strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying that through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God. And when they had appointed elders for them in every church, with prayer and fasting they committed them to the Lord in whom they had believed. (‭Acts‬ ‭14‬:‭20-23‬ ESV)

What the enemy meant to hurt us and to stop us. God will always turn it around for the good in our life. And it will always grow the kingdom.

  2. ORDINARY MEN DOING EXTRODINARY WORKS OF GOD

15 And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:

The fact remains today that people would rather see signs than hear doctrine. Hence the reason that America has fallen from a Christian nation. For generations now, mainline churches in America have strayed from original doctrinal beliefs. The masses now seek signs only, much like what happened here in verses.

We must contend as Apostolic Pentecostals that the doctrines of the LORD JESUS death, burial and resurection along with the New Birth experience in JESUS are the one and only source of the supernatural power of GOD.

Again, we witness the importance of the knowledge of the WORD of GOD in our lives and in the growth of the Kingdom of GOD and HIS church.

  3. 11 And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men.

12 And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the chief speaker.

13 Then the priest of Jupiter, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people.

Be sure God receives the glory……… These men were being applauded and looked upon as gods come down in the form of men because of the signs, wonders and miracles that the Lord had done. Very quickly they turned the attention from themselves back to the Lord giving Him all the honor and glory.

We must be careful when God begins to use us that we don’t abuse that power and take the glory for ourselves. That is a fast ticket to nowhere. Humility is such a great part of working in the Kingdom of God. We must always remember it is HIM working through us, we are only a vessel. Too many times God uses people and then the people think it is them and runs off starting ministries all about them, and God is not in it anywhere. But if we can keep the right attitude and the right spirit, God can use us mightily to perform those same signs, wonders and miracles in our day. After all, we have the very same Spirit they had, we just have to tap into it and step out in faith and begin to use it. BE BOLD in the Lord and let His power work through us bringing all the GLORY to HIM!

  4. Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God. (‭Acts‬ ‭14‬:‭22‬ KJV)

Tribulations come and go… It’s enduring the pain and having faith that The Lord will see you through it all!!! It’s only a season in your life. Thank you Jesus!!!! You are my comforter, my strength, and my peace!!!!! I’m so blessed!!!

Friends, when life gets really difficult, don’t jump to the conclusion that God isn’t on the job. Instead, be glad that you are in the very thick of what Christ experienced. This is a spiritual refining process, with glory just around the corner. (‭1 Peter‬ ‭4‬:‭12-13‬ MSG)

  5. 8 And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother’s womb, who never had walked: 9 The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed, 10 Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.

We serve a healing miracle working God!

  6. 15 “Friends, why are you doing this? We are merely human beings—just like you! We have come to bring you the Good News that you should turn from these worthless things and turn to the living God, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them. (NLT)

These people thought Paul and Barnabas were gods, they didn’t understand or see who really deserved the glory. Be careful to give all honor and glory to Jesus, the one and only God who truly deserves all of the praise.

  7. 15 And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:

We must be carful in who or what we put before our God! For there is only one true living God!!

  8. 2 But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren.

I find it interesting how a person gets upset when they are promised a gift. They don’t want it, so they disregard it. Then someone else comes and picks it up , opens it, and receives it. Then the first person gets mad. Because someone else gets blessed. So take the gifts that are given to you and be blessed.

  9. 20 But after the disciples had gathered around him, he got up and went back into the city. The next day he and Barnabas left for Derbe.
22 strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the faith. “We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,” they said.

Even when Paul knew the Jews tried to kill him he didn’t stop, he kept going out into the city and spread Gods word! Everyone is going to go through hardship, but the thing is will you make it out?! If God is with you NOTHING can come against you but when you refuse God that hardship will never stop and when you thing you can’t fight anymore that hardship takes you out. But God will always be there to pick you up again!!! Thank you Jesus!!! 🙂

  10. But as the believers gathered around him, he got up and went back into the town. The next day he left with Barnabas for Derbe. (‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭14‬:‭20‬ NLT)

Simple thought that came to mind…the world may leave someone thinking them as dead and now useless, bet there is this healing when you come into fellowship with believers of God. A healing that you can get anywhere else. We need each other in the church. It’s about unity.

  11. Gathered the Church !!!! 26. And thence sailed to An’-ti-och, from whence they had been recommended to the grace of God for the work which they fulfilled. Acts 13 : 1 27. And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gen’-tiles. 28. And there they abode long time with the disciples. Thank you for grace and mercy Lord !!!! Thank you for faith !!!!

  12. Acts 14:22 Confirming the souls of the Disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the Faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the Kingdom of God.

Have Faith and walk with God.

  13. 27 And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.

Thank you Jesus that you gave us your salvation, your Faith, and your name to us the rest of the Gentiles . For yours is ALL GLORY, ALL HONOR AMEN THATSY JESUS! N n

  14. 22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

No one said it would be easy.. in fact, they told us this life would be hard.

  15. Through much tribulation, we will enter into the kingdom of God…………hang in there, it’s coming or shall I say it’s here!

22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

    “Happy 4th, Remember the VETS”……………………………………………………..

  16. 4 But the multitude of the city was divided: and part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles.

Although there was division, there was also victories.

The deceiver (satan) is attempting to cause great division as he knows his time is almost up, which is all the more why one must be prepared to “stand around” (support). There are great miracles in unity. Reading and hearing (preaching and teaching) the word of God (Jesus), prayer, and assembling together are necessities for one’s soul survival. Standing around the man of God, as we read, made it possible for him to continue his God called journey. Dear God, help me to see the significance of unity and standing around; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In God we trust”. “One nation under God”. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  17. Acts 14:27
“And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.”

So thankful for Apostolic Missionaries. I like when they come to church and share all that God is doing in their work, and the testimonies they share of what God is doing in the hearts and lives of other people all over the world.
Remember to pray everyday for the Missionaries.

  18. Acts 14:19-23
[19] And there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and, having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead. [20] Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe. [21] And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch, [22] Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God. [23] And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.

Paul having been persecuted rose up and went into the city, preached the gospel into every city he went to.
Paul also set up Elders in the churches to encourage them to continue in the faith. We need Elders in every church to help us stay with the truth and practice the truth.

  19. 8 And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother’s womb, who never had walked:

9 The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed,

10 Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked. What God did back then can still happen but how much faith Do you have?

  20. iLove to eat More Word

Then some Jews arrived from Antioch and Iconium and won the crowds to their side. They stoned Paul and dragged him out of town, thinking he was dead. (‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭14‬:‭19‬ NLT)

What is very interesting to me, is how people can go from one extreme to the other in a matter of seconds. They went from trying to worship Paul, into trying to kill him. Words are very powerful in the fact that literally for Paul that day life and death was in the power of the tongue.

Let us use our words for life, build folks up, and make more disciples!

  21. Acts 14:8-10 KJVS

    8. And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother’s womb, who never had walked:

    9. The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed,

    10. Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.

God could have simply healed the man’s feet and that would have been a great miracle, but He didn’t stop there. He also put strength in the previously un-used leg muscles so they could hold him up, but He didn’t stop there. He also instantly gave the man lots of practice and muscle memory or when he leaped and landed, he would have fallen like a baby trying to learn how to walk!

    I guess my point is:
    God doesn’t do anything half-way.

  22. 15 And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:

16 Who in times past suffered all nations to walk in their own ways.

17 Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

We all need to turn away from the distractions and the things of this earth and turn towards God, concentrating on building a deeper relationship with him. For we all need more of God in our lives.

1 Corinthians 10:20-21 But I say that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God, and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils. Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils, ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table and of the table of devils.

For when we are distracted by the things of this world it takes us away from the things of God and it dulls our senses spiritually. And with dulled senses, we cannot produce fruits of the spirit to help the kingdom of God

Ephesians 5:6-11 Let no man deceive you with vain words, for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon children of disobediance. Be not ye therefore partakers with them. For ye were sometimes darkness but now are ye light in the Lord, walk as children of light. (For the fruit of the spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth). Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

  23. 22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

Many say that they want to go to heaven. However if they read this verse and brought it to its logical conclusion the door to heaven for the apostle was one of suffering and tribulation.

This seems to be unavoidable for his personal salvation. Although God doesn’t want to beat up his bride I do believe that we will all face suffering in this life. We must trust that no matter how bad it gets he is still in control.

  24. along the way they strengthen the hearts of the disciples, urging them to continue to believe and practice the faith and explaining that entering Gods heavenly kingdom see II Tim.4:18 requires enduring many trials
And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory forever and ever .
    Amen

  25. And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother’s womb, who never had walked: The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed, Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.

And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein: (‭Acts‬ ‭14‬:‭8-10, 15‬ KJV)

Sometimes when we do the work of God we have to make sure that people understand who God is. These people saw the miracle and were confused about its origin. While the work was carried out through Paul, it was not caused by him. In that same way we are to direct people to CHRIST in such a way that they are not misdirected by our work, but drawn to JESUS instead of us.

  26. and listening as Paul preached. Looking straight at him, Paul realized he had faith to be healed. (‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭14‬:‭9‬ NLT)

Sometimes it just takes a little observation. Watch how people react rather than assume. You can learn a lot by watching.

  27. 27 And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.

    HALELUJAH!!!
LORD OPEN THE DOOR OF FAITH, THAT THE WORLD MAY COME TO KNOW YOU. THAT POFW WOULD BE THAT DOOR OF FAITH TO THE WHOLE WORLD. IN JESUS NAME AMEN

  28. v2 But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren.

We are known my the company we keep… It runs from company to company. We are known by the doubters, unbelievers or the believers.
Let’s be known as the believers of GOD and
” Grief not the Holy Spirit of GOD”
    KEEP BELIEVING!!!

  29. 9 The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed
God tells us to trust him and he will act on our behalf. Having faith that God will move is showing our trust in him.

  30. In the past he permitted all the nations to go their own ways, (‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭14‬:‭16‬ NLT)

For all things are possible for the lord to do there is nothing to hard, for the lord that he cant do to any of his children, for those that believeith, for when we have faith in us we can do all things no matter what predicament that we get ourselves into, for the precious gift of God!!!! In Jesus Name Amen!!!
