Acts 15

1 And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.

2 When therefore Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question.

3 And being brought on their way by the church, they passed through Phenice and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy unto all the brethren.

4 And when they were come to Jerusalem, they were received of the church, and of the apostles and elders, and they declared all things that God had done with them.

5 But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.

6 And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter.

7 And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.

8 And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;

9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

10 Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

12 Then all the multitude kept silence, and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul, declaring what miracles and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles by them.

13 And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me:

14 Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name.

15 And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written,

16 After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up:

17 That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.

18 Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.

19 Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God:

20 But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.

21 For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day.

22 Then pleased it the apostles and elders with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; namely, Judas surnamed Barsabas and Silas, chief men among the brethren:

23 And they wrote letters by them after this manner; The apostles and elders and brethren send greeting unto the brethren which are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia.

24 Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:

25 It seemed good unto us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,

26 Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

27 We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who shall also tell you the same things by mouth.

28 For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;

29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.

30 So when they were dismissed, they came to Antioch: and when they had gathered the multitude together, they delivered the epistle:

31 Which when they had read, they rejoiced for the consolation.

32 And Judas and Silas, being prophets also themselves, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed them.

33 And after they had tarried there a space, they were let go in peace from the brethren unto the apostles.

34 Notwithstanding it pleased Silas to abide there still.

35 Paul also and Barnabas continued in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.

36 And some days after Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us go again and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they do.

37 And Barnabas determined to take with them John, whose surname was Mark.

38 But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work.

39 And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus;

40 And Paul chose Silas, and departed, being recommended by the brethren unto the grace of God.

41 And he went through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the churches.

  1. There must be unity in our disagreements.

    Barnabas agreed and wanted to take along John Mark. But Paul disagreed strongly, since John Mark had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not continued with them in their work. Their disagreement was so sharp that they separated. Barnabas took John Mark with him and sailed for Cyprus. (‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭15‬:‭37-39‬ NLT)

    As the church grows we know that there will be many times that we will not all be in agreement, but it is important to keep the unity of the body. It’s ok to disagree. Just make sure you don’t become bitter. We are still the church of Jesus Christ. We are One in Him. It’s not about how I feel or think, or vice versa. It’s all about making sure that His gospel is being preached and that souls are daily being born again!!

    With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. (‭Ephesians‬ ‭4‬:‭2-3‬ KJV)

    12 Then all the multitude kept silence, and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul, declaring what miracles and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles by them.

    The apostles and elders had to handle the situations as they arose, circumsion became an issue. They decided why put a yoke on the neck of the Gentiles that have been filled with the Holy Ghost. Circumsion of the flesh is not what saves us, but the circumsion of the heart will make a difference.
    There are still issues that arise in the church today, the pastors and elders will pray and fast to find the answers from God. We should be thankful that men of God still hear from God and deliver the message to us.

  3. NLT of Acts 15:1 & 6-11
    1, While Paul and Barnabas were at Antioch of Syria, some men from Judea arrived and began to teach the believers: “Unless you are circumcised as required by the law of Moses, you cannot be saved.”
    6, So the apostles and elders met together to resolve this issue. At the meeting, after a long discussion, Peter stood and addressed them as follows: “Brothers, you all know that God chose me from among you some time ago to preach to the Gentiles so that they could hear the Good News and believe. God knows people’s hearts, and he confirmed that he accepts Gentiles by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as he did to us. He made no distinction between us and them, for he cleansed their hearts through faith. So why are you now challenging God by burdening the Gentile believers with a yoke that neither we nor our ancestors were able to bear? We believe that we are all saved the same way, by the undeserved grace of the Lord Jesus.”

    Gal. 5:6 says, “For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor unciurcumcision; but faith which worketh by love.”
    Eph. 2:8 says, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.”

  4. 24 Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:

    It is not by our works and by us trying to be holy that we are saved, for all have fallen short of the glory of God. But it by the grace of God and our faith in him that we are saved.

    It was because of faith that Abraham became the Father of the Jewish people, because he was willing to follow God no matter where he took. And no matter where he takes us, we need to follow God by faith.

  5. MORE ACCOUNTABILITY

    36 And some days after Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us go again and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they do.

    A major key to the GROWTH and SUCCESS of any institution is MORE ACCOUNTABILITY.

    Leadership is Influence and Management. What do we profit if we have something and have no idea what we have.

    FAITHFUL servants seek opportunity to give an ACCOUNT or to be a ACCOUNTABLE. An unfaithful servant seeks to avoid ACCOUNTABILITY.

    Paul and Barnabas as Spiritual Leaders thought it good to “see how they do” that had been taught and established in the WORD of GOD.

    May GOD help us to GROW a Ministry that is filled with FAITHFUL servants that are seeking MORE ACCOUNTABILITY.

  6. And so my judgment is that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God.

    We too should not make it difficult for others. Everyone will grow in Christ over time. It’s up for the leaders of the church to lead by example. The new converts are observing each and every one of us.

  7. iLove to eat More Word

    10 Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

    I’m thankful that the Gentiles caught a break with Jesus becoming the High Priest from the tribe of Judah (instead of coming out of the Levitical priesthood). I can’t imagine how much more difficult it would be to be saved under all the ceremonial laws of Moses. Not only that, but we wouldn’t be able to eat pork chops any more. 😳

    Thankful that praise (Judah) has replaced ceremonial law (Levi).

    The old priesthood of Aaron perpetuated itself automatically, father to son, without explicit confirmation by God. But then God intervened and called this new, permanent priesthood into being with an added promise: God gave his word; he won’t take it back: “You’re the permanent priest.” This makes Jesus the guarantee of a far better way between us and God—one that really works! A new covenant. (‭Hebrews‬ ‭7‬:‭20-22‬ MSG)

  8. Verses 13-18 MSG “James broke the silence. “Friends, listen. Simeon has told us the story of how God at the very outset made sure that racial outsiders were included. This is in perfect agreement with the words of the prophets:

    After this, I’m coming back;
    I’ll rebuild David’s ruined house;
    I’ll put all the pieces together again;
    I’ll make it look like new
    So outsiders who seek will find,
    so they’ll have a place to come to,
    All the pagan peoples
    included in what I’m doing.
    “God said it and now he’s doing it. It’s no afterthought; he’s always known he would do this.”

    Thank you Lord for a Pastor who also always backs up everything with your Word.

  9. New Babes!!!!

    10 Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

    We have to have our hearts open to our new babes, for as they mature, they will ask questions that need to be answered by the word of God NOT OURS. Like why you all wear skirts all the time Deuteronomy 22:5 The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.
    Why don’t you cut your hair? But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering. ALL QUESTIONS MUST BE ANSWER ONLY WHEN ASKED. THE LORD AND ONLY THE LORD CAN CONVICT THE HEART AND THAT IS WHEN TRUE CHANGE TAKES PLACE. We should never burden our new brothers and sisters with things that only God will change in them. My sweet Pastor Carl Lagow of Apostolic Church of Waterloo Iowa taught me once, always be concern of a new babe that changes radically to be like the others for some do it just for acceptance and not for the true conviction of God and the Holy Ghost and if not taught and nature can backslide easily. Pray hard for the NEW HARVEST, PRAY HARD FOR NEW LABORERS, for the FIELDS ARE WHITE ALREADY. THANK YOU JESUS FOR A NEW BEGINNING.

    There is room in the house of God for every body!! It doesn’t matter what your past is, where you came from, or what you used to do – God’s grace is sufficient, His mercy is everlasting, His love endures forever. You can never be too far from God that He can’t call you home. I thank God for His blood that washed me, washed us all and how He took us back into His loving arms.

  12. 16 After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up:

    17 That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.

    At the first general conference a decision had to be made. Would they enforce the same stringent restrictions on the Gentiles as themselves had?

    No, instead they recognized the new freedom afforded by the new convenant, the resurrection of the tabernacle of David.

    Today this tabernacle still stands directly behind our eye lids. This new tabernacle is the temple of the Holy Ghost our body. We now have access to God 24 hours a day. It is good to be reminded of this so that we will walk in continual prayer and fellowship with the Lord. We do not have to go to the temple to feel God. We are the temple.

    What an amazing display of God’s power when all of us temples come together and worship him at church!

  13. v14 Simeon hath declared how GOD at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name.

    Thank you JESUS FOR YOUR GRACE
    THE LORD has called us to be witnesses of HIS NAME.
    THE NAME OF JESUS IS ABOVE EVERY NAME.
    THE whole world needs to know HIS SAVING NAME
    JESUS CHRIST!!!!

  14. contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus;

    40 And Paul chose Silas, and departed, being recommended by the brethren unto the grace of God.

    We have some disagreements shown in this chapter. First about some saying that the newly convert Gentiles should be circumsiced and then a disagreement between Paul and barnabas. Like they had said before; they are men of like passions. We do not stop being human, therefore human error will always have afactor to play in some cases. The great thing is that there are godly men that seek to hear from God in matters of decision and then give a resolution. We must guard our heart, seek the unity and live for Christ. Let God deal with our character that we become more like Him in all areas of our lives.

  15. 13 And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me:

    15 And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written,

    16 After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up:

    17 That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.

  16. ‘Afterward I will return and restore the fallen house of David. I will rebuild its ruins and restore it, so that the rest of humanity might seek the LORD, including the Gentiles— all those I have called to be mine. The LORD has spoken— he who made these things known so long ago.’ (‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭15‬:‭16-18‬ NLT)

    We are the Children of God, he has called all of us to be like him! But it is up to us to answer the call and truly seek him with everything we have and become who God meant us to be, just like the preacher has said God might have to break us along the way so that he can rebuild us to be mighty men and women of God!!

  17. God gave us the Holy Ghost, Jew & Gentile, no circumcision was necessary anymore. Don’t need religion nor extra weights around our necks….or a heavy yoke.

    8 And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;

    9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

    As Jesus said, “Behold, Mother I make all things new”.

  18. Peter rose up !!!! 7. And when there had been much disputing, Pe’-ter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gen’-tiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe. 8. And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Ho’-ly Ghost, even as he did unto us; 1Chron. 28 : 9 9. And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. Acts 10 : 15 Holy Ghost and Fire !!!!

  19. “Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?” This came about because some believed differently from the others. If dispute arises one would be wise to pray and seek God (Jesus) and his word, before possibly tempting the Judge (God). Dear God, grant me wisdom so that I do not tempt you; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In God we trust”. “One nation under God”. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

    I thank God that he forgives sins.
    Our testimony tells of the goodness of the Lord. It is not our place to tell people they must follow all the ordinances of the Old Testament. If God wants us to follow after those guidelines, HE will put it on our hearts to listen and follow after them.
    Don’t blindly condemn anyone with blanket statements about their salvation. Pray that God would speak to both of you. The one about how to talk to the other. And the second one, what they are supposed to do. He will speak when we listen.

  21. 9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

    God loves each and every one of us the same. Love God with all of your heart and soul. Have faith in God, he lives in you give him the glory always.

  22. 14 Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name.

    15 And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written,

    16 After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up:

    17 That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.

  23. But we believe that we will be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, just as they will.”

    Therefore my judgment is that we should not trouble those of the Gentiles who turn to God, but should write to them to abstain from the things polluted by idols, and from sexual immorality, and from what has been strangled, and from blood. For from ancient generations Moses has had in every city those who proclaim him, for he is read every Sabbath in the synagogues.” (‭Acts‬ ‭15‬:‭11, 19-21‬ ESV)

    So thankful for Gods grace. And also that He made salvation available to Gentiles. 

  24. 8 And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;

    He knows your heart!

  25. We believe that we are all saved the same way, by the undeserved grace of the Lord Jesus.” (‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭15‬:‭11‬ NLT)

    But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved in the same manner as they Peter suggested that with the observation that it is through Christ that all were saved by the Jews and the Gentile and not by the obedience of the law,if we were all made right with God by grace then we are not saved by grace and law-keeping. In Jesus Name Amen!!!!
