Acts 5

1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,

2 And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

5 And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.

6 And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him.

7 And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.

8 And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much.

9 Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.

10 Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.

11 And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.

12 And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch.

13 And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them.

14 And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)

15 Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.

16 There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.

17 Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation,

18 And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison.

19 But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said,

20 Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.

21 And when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught. But the high priest came, and they that were with him, and called the council together, and all the senate of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.

22 But when the officers came, and found them not in the prison, they returned and told,

23 Saying, The prison truly found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within.

24 Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow.

25 Then came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people.

26 Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence: for they feared the people, lest they should have been stoned.

27 And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,

28 Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.

29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.

31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

33 When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them.

34 Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space;

35 And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men.

36 For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought.

37 After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.

38 And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought:

39 But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.

40 And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

41 And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

  1. Don’t let them make you quit preaching in that glorious name. Just like it says, don’t fight against God, but obey him. Is it better that you obey men or God?

    “Obey God”…………………….

  2. 9. Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.

    10. Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.

Lying together to the Spirit of the Lord caused them to by lying together in the ground…be careful of what you agree to be a part of.

  3. Verses 40-42 MSG “That convinced them. They called the apostles back in. After giving them a thorough whipping, they warned them not to speak in Jesus’ name and sent them off. The apostles went out of the High Council overjoyed because they had been given the honor of being dishonored on account of the Name. Every day they were in the Temple and homes, teaching and preaching Christ Jesus, not letting up for a minute.” Same verses AMP “So, convinced by him, they took his advice; and summoning the apostles, they flogged them and sternly forbade them to speak in or about the name of Jesus, and allowed them to go. So they went out from the presence of the council (Sanhedrin), rejoicing that they were being counted worthy [dignified by the indignity] to suffer shame and be exposed to disgrace for [the sake of] His name. Yet [in spite of the threats] they never ceased for a single day, both in the temple area and at home, to teach and to proclaim the good news (Gospel) of Jesus [as] the Christ (the Messiah).” Despite the threats from this group and that group or the condition of this world, we too must never cease to proclaim the good news.

  4. 5 And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things…

10 Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.

11 And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.

Because God does not judge our sin as rapidly as he once did, Christians tend to believe that He doesn’t care about what they are doing. We do not fear God as much as we should.

  5. 41 And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

These were rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer for the name of Jesus. I wonder if we could be counted worthy in this day to suffer. Are we willing to suffer for the name of Jesus ?

  6. When it feels like you’ve been bound and locked up, God’s word has the power to free you. It doesn’t matter how tough or bad your situation may look, there is nothing to hard for my God to do. Our strength is in the Lord who made the heavens and the earth.

  7. Delivered to Deliver

    Acts 5:19-20 (NLT)
19 But an angel of the Lord came at night, opened the gates of the jail, and brought them out. Then he told them, 20 “Go to the Temple and give the people this message of life!”

Notice that Peter did not immediately run for his life. Once he was set free he didn’t grab his things and go. He wasn’t going to walk away now that he was in a place of safety and comfort.

Sadly many times people in church do this. As soon as they get their deliverance, and their blessing, as soon as they are jail broken they immediately look for a place to hide. The Church building was never meant to be a place where we can run and hide from the world and the devil to tend to our wounds and prepare us to go back out for our weekly beating.

The church is a place that we bring people to, and if we can’t get people to come to us we bring it to them. In the book of Acts they met corporately. They went to prayer, the temple, and had their meetings, but they also went house to house preaching the word of God.

God saved us to save others. Now that we are free we are looking to set others free.

There is no bible for us to just live our lives and the light of Jesus will shine and eventually they will come to the church, or ask us about it. However there is bible for us to go into all the world and teach, make disciples, and baptize them.

The Apostolic way isn’t to wait to see if someone will get curious enough to approach us, and until then we just need to wait be a Christian around them.

The apostolic way is to tell the world, witness, speak boldly, and proclaim his name.

  8. 42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.
They ceased not to teach and preach Jesus and neither shall we.

  9. Stay faithful and true to yourself and you’ll have you’ll have no problem with God or anybody else. Honesty

  10. THE HIGH COST OF DISHONEST CONSPIRACY

Occasionally a family conspiracy is formed, in order to fulfill or accomplish a personal desire. The setting of this text reveals that the church family was giving sacrificially for revival in the land. Families were selling their property and giving the resources to the apostles for the work of the LORD.

It is probable that the LORD exponentially BLESSED the sale of the possession. Notice the word “possession” in verse 1, then Peter identifies the possession as a parcel of land. GOD reveals this to Peter, I believe the word “possession” is included in verse 1 to transcend all generations and cultures, also to eliminate the mind from thinking this principal would only apply to the sale of land. Understanding it also applies to gold, oil, cars, precious stones, businesses, etc.

The plan of this couple in the privacy of their own home, in most cases was their own business and none else. However GOD took it personal. Seeing that GOD blessed the sale and the other disciples were sacrificing greatly, GOD expected the same from each couple. Not equal amount, but equal sacrifice.

What a cause to die for. What happened to the honesty and integrity that was present to make them disciples? How could they backslide right there in the church doing a good deed?

A conspiracy is defined as: a secret plan made by two or more people to do something that is harmful or illegal: the act of secretly planning to do something that is harmful or illegal.

When a secret plan is made by people to engage in an act of deceit or dishonesty to appear as a good faith act. GOD may well be the only that knows, however as we witness here, GOD is well able to speak to a willing vessel and reveal a DISHONEST CONSPIRACY and judge as he sees fit.

May GOD help us to purpose in our hearts to be sacrificial and not selfish when HIS Kingdom is involved. May GOD help us to recognize a DISHONEST CONSPIRACY in our own lives, should we be tempted to consider one.

  11. “And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.”

A husband and wife are on the same team. There should be no secrets between them whether trivial little nothings or major purchases or sales. While their motivers were not pure, the husband and wife “team” was the correct way to approach the transaction.

Husbands, include your wives on decsions. She may not want to know help you decide whether to have a Tic-Tac or a Life-Saver but she might. Maybe she prefers to kiss you with the Tic-Tac flavor on your lips versus the Life-Savers flavor.

  12. iLove to eat More Word

13 And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them.

14 And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)

    God’s High Leadership Standard

In one verse it says no one else wanted to join them and in the next verse it says the believers were multiplied. This is still true today when a God fearing man of God sets high standards for Leadership.

The ones who feared to join themselves were the half hearted folks, but the true disciples were multiplied. Setting high morals for Leadership not only removes the wrath of God, but it also causes great growth.

  13. 41 And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.
42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

How do we react and respond to what may be an unpleasant situation? Do we complain, become angry and blame God or like Peter and the apostles, do we rejoice, praise and thank God for the opportunity to be counted worthy to suffer for His Name’s sake. I chose the latter!

  14. 1 But there was a certain man named Ananias who, with his wife, Sapphira, sold some property. 2 He brought part of the money to the apostles, claiming it was the full amount. With his wife’s consent, he kept the rest. (NLT)

They were one. Married. The choices they made daily affected each other, that is why it is so crucial to include each other in the decisions you make. Yet, when one is down the other has to be strong enough to help them up. Sapphira had an opportunity to correct the mistake, twice. She gave her consent to her husband, and then lied to the priest about it. A good rule to remember: if you have to hide it…its wrong.

  15. 23 Saying, The prison truly found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within.

24 Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow.

God has the ability to break us out of prison without the things binding us even realizing we are free! He can break the chains and move us out. When those things come looking for us is when we step up and say no more! We ought to obey God rather than man. Man says my old habits are ok, man says its normal to be depressed and down and here take this pill, man says a lot of things but God! God says I am free! God says I am a new creature in Christ! Trust in God and he can take us farther than our chains could hold us back.

  16. 42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

Teaching and preaching Christ is much different today then it was in the 1st century. The ideology of a God named Jesus who died for our sins is not as new as it was then. Many people, especially in America, are familiar with Christianity and have some idea about Jesus in their head already. The majority of Christians do not even live Christian lives, so many see this and associate Christianity with hypocrisy.

This would needs to see a new demonstration of Christianity. Christianity fails when Christians spend more time praying and worshiping God in a corporate setting rather than at home. It fails when Christians do not exhibit the love of Jesus Christ and signs and wonders do not accompany preaching and teaching. May we have an apostolic revival in our prayer lives. Christianity is build on Christ and we experience Christ through prayer.

  17. 5 And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.

Don’t give up your Holy Ghost for nothing!!! The Holy Ghost is the power that has been given to us;) Holy Ghost is Jesus helping us and directing us what we should do. The Holy Ghost is peace, restoration, faith, wisdom, knowledge, passion, and etc. Nothing in this world can give us any of these things but Jesus!!!!! Nothing is worth you loosing the Holy Ghost!!! MORE OF YOU JESUS!!! I can’t breathe, walk, talk, or do anything without you Jesus!!! In you I trust!!!!

  18. Don’t Hold Back

“kept back part of the price.”The mere act of keeping back would not in itself have been sinful. The money was his own, to give the whole or part (Acts 5:4). But the formal act, apparently reproducing that of Barnabas, was an acted lie. The part was offered as if it were the whole. The word for “kept back” is rendered “purloining” in Titus 2:10, and always carried with it the idea is dishonesty. It is used in Joshua 7:1, as describing the sin of Achan. All of these acts made me think of how often spiritually we hold back, in repentence, in giving, in prayer, in outreach, in ministry etc. Makes me ask myself how much uneccesary baggage am I holding on to? What have I not let go of? Search me Lord of anything I’ve held onto that I’ve should have given to you. Don’t let our hearts become lukewarm from holding back from you.

  19. 10 Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.

Do take what is God’s. Plain and simple.

  20. 9 Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.

    Agree together

It is important for a husband and wife to agree together but their agreement should never go against the one that joined them together. Someone has to stand for what is right even when the other one is tempted.

A husband and wife is a team and should always have each others back. I believe the greatest way I can have my husband’s back is to always be supportive but in the event he misses a step help him find his footing. I know he would do the same for me. We agree together to align with the Word of God.

  21. Multitudes of men and women !!!! 14. And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.) 15. Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Pe’-ter passing by might overshadow some of them. 16. There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Je-ru’-sa-lem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one. Thank you for healing power Jesus !! Thank you for all you endured Jesus !!!!

  22. Acts 5:29-33
29, Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
30, The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.
31, Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgivness of sins.
32, And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.
33, When they heard that, they were cut to the heart (had their feeling hurt), and took counsel to slay them.

In Acts 2, on the day of Pentecost, when Peter speaks to the people, the men were pricked (to pain sharply or sting) in their hearts and asked Peter and the other apostles what they must do to be saved. Peter told them to Repent, be Baptized in Jesus Name, and receive the Holy Ghost and to save themselves from this untoward generation. They that gladly received the Word were saved.
But today, in Acts 5, when Peter speaks, we see that the men (the captain, the officers, the council, and the high priest) were cut to the heart (had their feelings hurt) and became angry.

So my thought today is when the Word of God is preached, some people will believe and receive, while others will get their feelings hurt and become angry.
1 Cor. 1:18 says, “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness: but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.”
Heb. 4:12 says, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

    GOD’S WORD IS POWERFUL!!
Some will be pricked, while others will be cut.

  23. 4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

For christian to sin it is conceived in their heart prior to sinning. Most people don’t just get up one morning and quit church, or quit living for the Lord. They ponder, they plan, they consider the consequences and then they put action with their thoughts.

Romans 13:14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

If we will guard our hearts and our minds, and not allow those type of thoughts to enter our minds, or stay in our minds, we will not give birth or life to the thoughts that would lead us down the path of sin.

I am reminded of the skit that the drama team did a few months ago at a rally:

    “Slow Fade”

Be careful little eyes what you see
It’s the second glance that ties your hands as darkness pulls the strings
Be careful little feet where you go
For it’s the little feet behind you that are sure to follow

Be careful little ears what you hear
When flattery leads to compromise, the end is always near
Be careful little lips what you say
For empty words and promises lead broken hearts astray

The journey from your mind to your hands
    Is shorter than you’re thinking
Be careful if you think you stand
    You just might be sinking

It’s a slow fade when you give yourself away
It’s a slow fade when black and white have turned to gray
Thoughts invade, choices are made, a price will be paid
    When you give yourself away
People never crumble in a day
Daddies never crumble in a day
Families never crumble in a day

Oh be careful little eyes what see
Oh be careful little eyes what you see
For the Father up above is looking down in love
Oh be careful little eyes what you see

  24. How many chances do we get??

I thank you Lord for the many chances you give me to fulfill your will in my life. Sharing the gospel or standing up for God is a treat to my heart. He’s a good and sweet God…I love Him. He’s there when no one else is. And he will sit and talk to you about things that we are facing…or tell someone the truth about Him. Which is repent, be baptised with evidence of speaking in tongues.
I think that we may not all be ministers in church but we are all called to be ministers in God’s eyes. Speak the gospel and pray your way out of our messes is the only way I know. What a loving Jesus. Thank you Lord for teaching me Your word…when no one else would You will.

Praise You My God ♡♡♡Jesus is His Name.
All these other churches say they know God and are right in God’s Eyes, but if they don’t preach Jesus truth that we know they’re not g Po ing with us. That’s a lot of people who are going to be lost. I pray for everyone!!! Jesus is the King!!

  25. 9 Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.

10 Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.

We must not lie to God or take from his kingdom! You cannot hide from God, for He knows all things!!

  26. Act 5:14 — Act 5:16
And more than ever believers were added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women,
so that they even carried out the sick into the streets and laid them on cots and mats, that as Peter came by at least his shadow might fall on some of them.
The people also gathered from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing the sick and those afflicted with unclean spirits, and they were all healed.

This is what we can achieve if we all can unite and have revival in our personal lives. It only takes a spark to start it and it will spread to everyone around us, then to the church, community, city, county, state, nation. People from all over will here and come to receive what we have and it’s all for His Glory.

  27. 38“So my advice is, leave these men alone. Let them go. If they are planning and doing these things merely on their own, it will soon be overthrown. 39 But if it is from God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You may even find yourselves fighting against God!

Such a true statement. If we decide to take matters into our own hands, things will not go smoothly. But if we pray and ask God for help, nothing can stop us.

  28. Acts 5:29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

We are to obey civil government, but when it goes contrary to the explicit commands of God, we must obey God and be ready to suffer the consequences.

  29. 1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,

You Remember that game called truth or dare that’s what it’s kinda like to me see when you did the dare there was always a consequence. If you sin you will lose your spirit if you don’t repent.Us Christians some times lose the fear of the lord and do what we want. No that’s not what we need don’t take that dare, don’t be cursed after you do that over and over and over and over you get further and further and further away from him ask for forgiveness and just don’t do it and obey the man of God and be truthful. Don’t lie to God.

  30. Building Generosity into My Life!!!

    Leaders give of themselves…

    Acts 5:11
we see the story of Ananias and Sapphira and how they lie about given all their money to the church and we see how God revealed their deception to Peter. Their sin was not lack of generosity, but lack of HONESTY. They lied about what they had done. And they wanted to be THOUGHT OF GENEROUS with out paying the price.
God would have nothing to do with it . He surgically removed the spiritual cancer from the church by taking their lives.

I wonder how many times have I act like Ananias and Sapphira. Great fear has come up to my spirit knowing that at any time God can removed me if I don’t do what He has ask of me, for the kingdom of God.

Things that came to my mind that we priorities on than can lead us to be like this couple
    1. Clung of our possessions
    2. Pretend to be someone we are not
    3. Think that we can get by with appearing to be generous.
    4. Feel more concerned with our image that our relationship with God.
    5. How many times do we lie about our giving, about our time, about anything that has to do with the kingdom of God.

    More INTEGRITY
    More HONESTY
    More OF YOU JESUS

  31. “And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.” Both husband (male) and wife (female) were allowed to hear, and then. One that has heard and continues in sin should know and be thankful for it is only because of the grace and mercy of God (Jesus). However one should take advantage of repentance while one has life (breath) in one’s body, for once this life is over; it is over until judgement. Dear God, forgive me and change me too be like you; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In God we trust”. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  32. 35 And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men.

The work of God cannot be stopped and will fulfill Gods purpose and plan. God’s will shall be done. Even when there seemed to be shut doors, the Angel of the Lord opened the prison doors and commanded them to preach. When it seems that we cannot reach God will provide an open door of opportunity and it’s our turn now to proclaim this gospel to the people. The gates of hell shall not prevail against the church.

  33. 18 And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison.

19 But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said,

20 Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.

If God can move mountains, he can do anything. Here angels were sent to release the apostles from prison so they can continue preaching at the temple. God is making sure that his people are taken cared of. Nothing is impossible through God. Thank you Lord for your love and mercy.

  34. “We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.””(Acts‬ ‭5:32‬ ‭NIV)

For we are witnesses to the sickness and poor and all the other people around this world for,we Christian know it’s not easy to be a Christian and stand on our two feet and walk right and be faithful and righteousness for, it is up to us to save these people in this world for, we know our gods word and we know not to do the things we use to do for, we have overcome those things in our past for, god told his children that our sins well be washed way complete if we repent forgiveness and turn our life to him and be baptized in his mighty name and he said to his children that we shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost !!! In Jesus Name Amen!!!

  35. If it be of men it will come to nought, but if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it, lest haply ye be found to fight against God. Through the span of time this has held true. The things of man fall away, but God remains, for He is eternal!

  36. 1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,

2 And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

Sapphire showed here that her loyalty to her husband was greater than her loyalty to God. I pray we never get caught doing something like this

  37. 41 And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

With the current reality of threat to Christians, we face a reality that is very real. It would not surprise me one bit that with our church the way that it is shaking the enemies territory that we would be a primary target to this kind of persecution. I would feel bad for any attempt of it being
Ps 34:7 The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.

  38. “That convinced them. They called the apostles back in. After giving them a thorough whipping, they warned them not to speak in Jesus’ name and sent them off. The apostles went out of the High Council overjoyed because they had been given the honor of being dishonored on account of the Name. Every day they were in the Temple and homes, teaching and preaching Christ Jesus, not letting up for a minute.”
    Acts 5:40-42 MSG

The disciples never gave up. They didn’t back down. They were about their Fathers business.

  39. 4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

Unfortunately, their demise was an opportunity for others to realize that God is an all knowing God and empowers his men ‘to know’ through the gifts of the spirit.

  40. 3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

  41. “And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭5:6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

It was the young men who took him out. The young men that saw the power of God. The young men who carried out the work to fulfillment when the judgement was shown. ( It was probably the young men who started the revival of the fear of God that caused the great growth that occurred later in the chapter too. )
