Acts 10

1 There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band,

2 A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.

3 He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius.

4 And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.

5 And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter:

6 He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.

7 And when the angel which spake unto Cornelius was departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually;

8 And when he had declared all these things unto them, he sent them to Joppa.

9 On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:

10 And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,

11 And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending upon him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:

12 Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.

13 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.

14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.

15 And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

16 This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.

17 Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made enquiry for Simon’s house, and stood before the gate,

18 And called, and asked whether Simon, which was surnamed Peter, were lodged there.

19 While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee.

20 Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.

21 Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause wherefore ye are come?

22 And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee.

23 Then called he them in, and lodged them. And on the morrow Peter went away with them, and certain brethren from Joppa accompanied him.

24 And the morrow after they entered into Caesarea. And Cornelius waited for them, and he had called together his kinsmen and near friends.

25 And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him.

26 But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.

27 And as he talked with him, he went in, and found many that were come together.

28 And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.

29 Therefore came I unto you without gainsaying, as soon as I was sent for: I ask therefore for what intent ye have sent for me?

30 And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing,

31 And said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.

32 Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon, whose surname is Peter; he is lodged in the house of one Simon a tanner by the sea side: who, when he cometh, shall speak unto thee.

33 Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.

34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:

35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.

36 The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)

37 That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;

38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

39 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:

40 Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly;

41 Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.

42 And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.

43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.

44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.

45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.

46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,

47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?

48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

  1. A GENTILE THAT IS GOOD!!

Here is Cornelius, devoted Gentile, following what God said probably better than some Jews. Cornelius prayed alway and gave to those less fortunate expecting nothing in return. He had a good heart, with good actions, and God took notice. It is in this specific moment that through Cornelius, Peter learns that we can receive the Holy Ghost and be saved by Christ. To be baptized in Jesus Name for the remission of ALL OUR SINS. Not only the resent ones but as far back as God could go and as far forward as God could go. ALL OF THEM GONE, NEVER TO BE REMINDED OF THEM EXCEPT BY THE ACCUSER. Next time you look upon that person that comes in looking for a seat, it don’t matter how old, how young, how clean, or how filthy. WE ALL FALL SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD. Once forgiven we should not turn into the accuser that is a sure way to lose a new soul; to which we are responsible for. As Pastor said, are you part of the problem, or part of the solution. I pray Lord, put you hands over us so we may learn to always be part of the solution. To admit when we are wrong or just don’t know the answer, when in doubt allow us to send them to the only one that can guide them better than our opinions, the man of God and Pastor. In Jesus Name we Pray, AMEN.

  2. ILove to eat More Word

“Meanwhile, as Peter was puzzling over the vision, the Holy Spirit said to him, “Three men have come looking for you. Get up, go downstairs, and go with them without hesitation. Don’t worry, for I have sent them.””
    ‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭10:19-20‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Notice in the scripture that the servants think Cornelius has sent them, but Peter gets the real revelation through his vision that God is the one who sent them.

We all must be careful who we allow into our lives an. Make sure those people are sent by God.

  3. 38And you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.

We to have the power through God to heal those that are oppressed by the devil. So many come to church that are hungry for the word, we have to be ready to pray with them. People are looking for that spiritual healing that will loose them from their convictions they are facing.

  4. Some of the verses explane the apperance of tongues in the situation. The gentiles were given this gift just as the apostles had been on the day of Pentecost was proof of Gods acceptance into the church.

  5. 44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.

45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.

46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,

This same Holy Ghost is poured out today and people speak with tongues when they get it the same as then. God has not changed his message from what was poured out in the upper room. Holy Ghost and power in the name of Jesus Christ to all who are willing to leave all and follow.

  6. MORE SUPERNATURAL

1 There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band,
2 A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.

5 And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter:

Cornelius was spiritually hungry for MORE SUPERNATURAL encounters. GOD, meanwhile was preparing and speaking to Peter. We must be sensitive to the Spirit of the LORD and hear the voice of GOD to direct us to Spiritually hungry souls.

GOD knows who is faithful and hungry as well he knows who will speak the TRUTH and share HIS plan of salvation to the lost.

Let us this day pray for sensitivity to the voice and spirit of JESUS. As we pray for those that are Spiritually hungry and seeking MORE SUPERNATURAL experiences from the LORD.

Have your way today JESUS in my heart, mind, soul and body. Order my steps and lead me to Spiritually hungry people that will seek to please you LORD JESUS. King of Kings and LORD of Lords.

  7. Experience

One of the most powerful arguments is the argument from experience. When one experiences truth, it is hard to deny that truth. Peter had an experience with God that caused him to look past historical prejudiceness which led to an outpouring of the Holy Spirit to Gentiles who did not follow Judaism. This vision would be respected by the church authorities too. Likewise, the Gentiles experienced the Holy Spirit. This passage introduces the ministry of Paul that is to follow some 17 or more years later. Paul would be a missionary to Gentiles.

  8. 42 And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.

43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.

His name is what people need to hear and by his name will people believe and receive the gift of the Holy ghost, we just need to direct people to where the light is shining and God can fill in the rest and touch people’s lives

  9. 22 And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee.

God had MORE for Cornelius even though he was devout and had a good reputation. There are many devout and good people around us that need God. We must go and share what we have so they can receive the whole truth and be saved.

  10. 22 And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee.
    ….

33 Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.

This reminds me of pastor’s message from this morning. We need to be ready for when the opportunity comes to go into some one’s home and declare the things of God. And share the Word of God and what is needed to be saved. We must be on His Word to share the light to others.

  11. Act 10:43 — Act 10:46
To him all the prophets bear witness that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”The Holy Spirit Falls on the Gentiles
While Peter was still saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word.
And the believers from among the circumcised who had come with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out even on the Gentiles.
For they were hearing them speaking in tongues and extolling God. Then Peter declared,

When there are hungry hearts and minds all we need is the Word of God to be preached and and the Holy Ghost will take care of the rest. MORE revival!

  12. 15 And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
Thank God for his salvation power. The power that allows us to recieve his Holy Ghost even though we are gentiles! “For God so loved the world that he gave” ” That whosoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life”! God gave us the greatest gift when he gave His life!

  13. 45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.

This the place where it finally clicked, where the prophet Joel said,”And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:” They had always thought the Word meant, Jews flesh everywhere. The beauty of God is that He is no respecter of people, come as you are, if you allow God to work in you He can transform you from something defiled, unfit to a beautiful vessel that can be called the House of the Lord!

  14. God will make ready both partys.

As we read here not only was Cornelius ready in his heart. Peter was also ready to give. This is why we must be ready instant in season and out of season. We just never know who we will reach.

  15. 44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.

Peter didn’t lay hands on them. He never asked God to fill them, or taught them how to receive it. Peter didn’t coach them on receiving the spirit. When the time came and God poured out his spirt they received it and began to speak in tongues.

    Why?

I believe this was because Cornelius was hungry, and knew how to praise the Lord. When a person’s heart is hungry for the things of God there is nothing that will stop them from running to him.

I believe the more we can do to help increase someone’s hunger they will be even more open for the things of God!

  16. Acts 10:4
And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.

Alms: g1654. ἐλεημοσύνη eleēmosynē; from 1656; compassionateness, i.e. (as exercised towards the poor) beneficence, or (concretely) a benefaction: — alms(-deeds).
Alms is commonly referred to money and usually a donation to the poor but it’s actual definition is compassionateness. Showing compassion isn’t limited to money. God keeps track of the compassion we give to others. A few verses before when describing Cornelius it says he gave much alms to the people. His compassion was not limited to those who were poor but he gave of himself to all when he saw a need. Everyone goes through things no matter our status in life and each of us can probably say we have had need of compassion from another. If we can become more sensitive to each other and give compassion we can meet needs and have our needs met as well. But more importantly we can know God is watching and that compassion goes up before him much like our prayers.

  17. Acts 10:15 And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common

Acts 10:15 God uses the sheet vision to teach Peter two important truths: (1)God has now cleansed all animals for food, contrary to the dietary codes of the Mosaic law; (2) all men are fit for salvation verse 28.

  18. 17 Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made enquiry for Simon’s house, and stood before the gate,

34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: 35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.

The Lord (Jesus) speaks, the question is doeth the ear hear. One that truly wants, will hear, whereas one that doubts or is full of self, may never see, or receive. Dear God, forgive me of self and open my eyes and ears to more of you; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In God we trust”. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  19. 40 Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly;

41 Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.

42 And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.
Not all get to see the works of God up close for many reasons.

  20. Will you be in place?
4 And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.

5 And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter:

6 He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.

    7 And when the angel which spake unto Cornelius was departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually;

8 And when he had declared all these things unto them, he sent them to Joppa.

9 On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:

God tells him where to find Peter but what if Peter had decided not to be there. What if Peters questioning about the vision God gave him distracted him To the point he gave up on the vision and went fishing with his old buddies?

No, Peter was in his place and he was in prayer. Even while in the process of understanding the vision God used Peter. This shows us that we may not always understand but if we stay in place God will revel His plan at the right time… His time.

  21. “Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism”‭(Acts‬ ‭10:34‬ ‭NIV‬‬)

Peter has been shown a revelation against favoritism. When someone thinks they are better than someone else they believe they have a better advantage over them. God is showing him that he can’t judge the Gentiles by their race but include them in Jesus’s plan of salvation. For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.
    Romans. (12:3 NIV).

  22. Fear God and pray………A lot………….

2 A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.

    “Unceasingly”…………………

  23. 45. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Those that were already made a covenant with were able to watch as God made available His Spirit to even the “unclean”. They got to watch what they had seen their whole lives as common become filled and lifted up by God. Hallelujah! Transformation!

  24. 2 He was a devout, God-fearing man, as was everyone in his household. He gave generously to the poor and prayed regularly to God.

Cornelius was a God-fearing man, a devout man he ensured not only was he praying regularly but the word says as was everyone in his household!

  25. 4 And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.

A memorial is usually something that is set in place to remember the individual, the event etc. In this case the prayers that Cornelius had prayed was continually adding to the memorial before that Lord, that the Lord would see it and recognize and recall the prayers/requests being made known by Cornelius.

I am continually reminded almost daily that the Lord cares for the very sparrow that falls to the ground, how much more He cares about us. So much so that He is aware of every prayer we pray. He sees and knows the intents and desires of our hearts. However, it is in His timing that those requests are answered. That is the hardest thing for us understanding, but knowing that God has perfect timing, and does all things well, and works all things for the good of those that love Him and are called according to His purpose, doesn’t make the waiting any easier, but does make it doable.

  26. Acts 10: 39 We are witnesses of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a cross but God raised him from dead on the third day and cause him to be seen . he was not seen by all the people but y witnesses whom God had already chosen by uswho ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.

  27. 13 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.

14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.

15 And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

I thank God that he has cleansed us and we are no longer considered unclean and unreachable with the gospel

  28. 2 A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.

Cornelius was a generous man who prayed and feared God. God blessed him and his family because of his devotion to him. He was the first Gentile to recieve the gift of the Holy Ghost because of his faithfulness to him. Jesus came to seek and save those which were lost. We were Gentiles but we have beeen grafted in, adopted heirs.

  29.  Thankful that salvation was extended to the Gentiles.
“Peter told them, “You know it is against our laws for a Jewish man to enter a Gentile home like this or to associate with you. But God has shown me that I should no longer think of anyone as impure or unclean.

Then Peter replied, “I see very clearly that God shows no favoritism. In every nation he accepts those who fear him and do what is right.”

    ‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭10:28, 34-35‬ ‭NLT‬‬

  30. Cornelius !!!! 7. And when the angel which spake unto Cor-ne’-li-us was departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually; 8. And when he had declared all these things unto them, he sent them to Jop’-pa. I LIFT YOU UP JESUS !!!! YOU ARE HOLY !!!! YOU ARE AWESOME !!!!

  31. Acts 10:4 (NET) Staring at him and becoming greatly afraid, Cornelius replied, “What is it, Lord?” The angel said to him, “Your prayers and your acts of charity have gone up as a memorial before God.

Acts 10:4 (NLT) Cornelius stared at him in terror. “What is it, sir?” he asked the angel. And the angel replied, “Your prayers and gifts to the poor have been received by God as an offering!

God sees and know wa everything that we do. He knows every act we perform. It is reeling us here that when Cornelius was in need the Lord considered all that he had done in his life. That doesn’t mean that your acts get you into heaven, but God considers them for what happens on earth when we are in need.

  32. Acts 10: 9-16
    SUPERNATURAL REVELATION!!!
God expands Peters horizontes and helps him out of the box.

    Acts 10:17-23
    SUPERNATURAL INVITATION!!!

    Acts 10:24:35
    SUPERNATURAL CONFIRMATION!!!

When God wants to draw new obedience from His servants , He always communicates fresh vision.
