Acts 18

1 After these things Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth;

2 And found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla; (because that Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome:) and came unto them.

3 And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation they were tentmakers.

4 And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.

5 And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ.

6 And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean; from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles.

7 And he departed thence, and entered into a certain man’s house, named Justus, one that worshipped God, whose house joined hard to the synagogue.

8 And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.

9 Then spake the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace:

10 For I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city.

11 And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.

12 And when Gallio was the deputy of Achaia, the Jews made insurrection with one accord against Paul, and brought him to the judgment seat,

13 Saying, This fellow persuadeth men to worship God contrary to the law.

14 And when Paul was now about to open his mouth, Gallio said unto the Jews, If it were a matter of wrong or wicked lewdness, O ye Jews, reason would that I should bear with you:

15 But if it be a question of words and names, and of your law, look ye to it; for I will be no judge of such matters.

16 And he drave them from the judgment seat.

17 Then all the Greeks took Sosthenes, the chief ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment seat. And Gallio cared for none of those things.

18 And Paul after this tarried there yet a good while, and then took his leave of the brethren, and sailed thence into Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila; having shorn his head in Cenchrea: for he had a vow.

19 And he came to Ephesus, and left them there: but he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews.

20 When they desired him to tarry longer time with them, he consented not;

21 But bade them farewell, saying, I must by all means keep this feast that cometh in Jerusalem: but I will return again unto you, if God will. And he sailed from Ephesus.

22 And when he had landed at Caesarea, and gone up, and saluted the church, he went down to Antioch.

23 And after he had spent some time there, he departed, and went over all the country of Galatia and Phrygia in order, strengthening all the disciples.

24 And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus.

25 This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.

26 And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.

27 And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much which had believed through grace:

28 For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publicly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ.

  1. He convinced the Jews, and did it mightily.

28 For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publicly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ.

    “Be blessed”………………

  2. Verses 8-11 MSG “In the course of listening to Paul, a great many Corinthians believed and were baptized. One night the Master spoke to Paul in a dream: “Keep it up, and don’t let anyone intimidate or silence you. No matter what happens, I’m with you and no one is going to be able to hurt you. You have no idea how many people I have on my side in this city.” That was all he needed to stick it out. He stayed another year and a half, faithfully teaching the Word of God to the Corinthians.” The Youth are about to experience this at NAYC….to know that they are not alone in their belief.

  3. TEACHING THE WORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Apollo did not know about baptism in Jesus Name, he had no knowledge of the Holy Ghost, but he had passion for the Truth. He knew the scriptures for he already had won some souls just with knowing and exhorting others on the word of God. He could of probably stayed like that for ever…. That would of been my Mom, sister, etc.. Knowledgeable of the word, but not seen or knew the revelation of being baptized in Jesus Name or the gift of the Holy Ghost; but thank God for Aquila and Priscilla who where ready and able to teach a bible study. To sit with Apollo and teach him the wonderful Truth of Baptism in Jesus Name and the Oneness of God. Praying and appreciating all our wonderful Home Bible study teachers, all the Sunday School Teacher, and Great man of God and First Lady that show an interest in our spiritual growth and life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. 28He refuted the Jews with powerful arguments in public debate. Using the Scriptures, he explained to them that Jesus was the Messiah.

We to can discussions with our unrighteous coworkers, but do it in a respectful way. The more we read the word the better we are prepared to use scripture. Your friends know just enough to make a point but we should always be ready to respond using scriptures. They will always want you to show them where in the bible can it be found. Reading the word for yourselves usually is more powerful than hearing the word.

  5. 8 And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.

Paul was told by the Lord, do not be afraid I have many people in this city. Speak the word with boldness, men of God need to speak with boldness the word God gives them. This generation needs to hear the truth and move forward in the power of God.

  6. 6. And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean; from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles.

If we reject the Word of God, he will move on and find someone who will receive it and we will have no one to blame but ourselves.

  7. 3 And because he was of same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation they were tentmakers.

Many times the people you can relate to because of experiences or occupation become your best friends in the Lord. If are saved, they are also more willing to listen to the Gospel message because they already know, relate and trust you. we must not be shy in talking to our coworkers.

  8. Never too early…

“This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭18:25‬

We do not have to be the most highly decorated biblical scholar to start sharing the word of God with others. Apollos taught what he knew. He did it well. He was then taught him “more perfectly”. Now, Apollos could have been snooty and said, I am a masterful teacher; who do you think you are to try and teach me? However, that is not what is recorded. Apollos became a great help to because of his willingness to learn more perfectly about Jesus.

  9. iLove to eat More Word

    HBS with Apollos
24 And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus.

26When Priscilla and Aquila heard him preaching boldly in the synagogue, they took him aside and explained the way of God even more accurately.28He refuted the Jews with powerful arguments in public debate. Using the Scriptures, he explained to them that Jesus was the Messiah

What’s most amazing in this scripture is the fact that Apollos was humble enough to have HBS regardless of how smart and knowledgeable he was. The Word says that knowledge puffeth up and also pride brings blindness… So, this scripture gives me hope that there are mighty men from other denominations that are hungry for the Word of God more perfectly.

  10. 28 For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publicly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ.

How convincing am I when it comes to Gods word? Why am I not convincing others? Is my light not shining bright? Is there something wrong with me? I had many questions.
Well when seeking my answers I went to the bible. And I found it. I found out that even though I thought I knew the word; I may not have understood what I was saying. Then I asked myself do I really understand and believe what I’m saying myself. Through a few months of studying and seeking answers. I am now pursueded beyond a showdown of a doubt what I believe. And now because I know what I truly believe. I am a better soul winner.

Know and believe what you say.

  11. MORE UNDERSTANDING

The spiritually hungry individual is one that is not easily offended or quickly distracted. MORE of JESUS is the plan and mission of life.

Aquilla and Priscilla were good leaders in the fact that they listened before they spoke. We must listen first to find out what they know before we can show them the way they should go. As good leaders they also further instructed this passionate servant in the way of baptism in JESUS name; he only knew of the baptism of John. Leaders must take the time to teach what they know. To expound the way MORE perfectly. Home Bible Study is a great way to accomplish this wonderful experience.

  12. 12 And when Gallio was the deputy of Achaia, the Jews made insurrection with one accord against Paul, and brought him to the judgment seat,

13 Saying, This fellow persuadeth men to worship God contrary to the law.

When reaching out you could say all the right things, but if they do not receive the Word some could think you pushed your religion upon them. But it was them who asked in the first place… but say nothing for God will take care of thought who want to harm you.

  13. To Each is Own

15 But if it be a question of words and names, and of your law, look ye to it; for I will be no judge of such matters.

Gallo had the authority to prevent the beating that followed this verse but decided to play politics and have no voice in the matter. 1) There was no Roman law that was broken, so he was not responsible for judging it. 2) Rather than risk his position by angering the Jews and inciting another rebellion, he turned his head. This led to a just man being wrongfully beaten.

This is happening in our country today. Many are turning their heads and allowing just people to be beaten and/or killed. It is time for the church to stand up for justice and Christ. There is only ONE GOD; it cannot be to each is own. Christ alone is the answer.

  14. 6 And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean; from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles.

    He shook hid raiment.

There are some people that are just crazy enough to not want the truth no matter how hard we try to reach them, no matter how hard we teach them. Until they want to know the truth and receive their own understanding we can not force them to live for Christ. We must “shake oursleves” and try to help someone who wants the truth.

4 Each Sabbath found Paul at the synagogue, trying to convince the Jews and Greeks alike. 5 And after Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul spent all his time preaching the word. He testified to the Jews that Jesus was the Messiah.

But only until we have spent ALL our time preaching His word to them!

  15. Acts 18:9-10
9, Then spake the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace:
10, For I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city.

Prov. 29:18a says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish…”
Do we have a Vision and see the lost souls in the city of Fort Worth that belong to Jesus? We need a Vision.
We are not to be afraid, we are not to be silent, but we are to speak and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the souls in the city of Fort Worth for MUCH of these people belong to Him.

From the Northside, to the Southside, from the Eastside, to the Westside, there’s going to be REVIVAl in the city of Fort Worth!

    MORE Vision!
    MORE Revival!

  16. 26 And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.

Disciples making Disciples…..first we find Paul coming to Aquilla and Priscilla and abiding with them for over a year. Working with them in the same craft, teaching them the doctrine and principles of the Lord. Then we find where Paul takes his leave and moves on to another land, and now Aquilla and Priscilla are found teaching Apollos and expounding the Word of God to him.

This is the process that God would desire all of us be involved in. We can’t be a christian just for ourselves. God didn’t save us to just sit on the church pew Sunday after Sunday. He saved us to be discipled in the Word and ways of God, and then to go make disciples….teaching and exampling unto them all we have learned.

  17. Do not fear, for God is on our side!

9 Then spake the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace:

10 For I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city.

This world is filled with darkness everywhere, and it is easy to get intimidated by it all, but remember even in our darkest hour we are not alone, God is right there with us!

“For the Lord will not forsake his people for his great name’s sake: because it hath pleased the Lord to make you his people.”
    ‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭12:22‬ ‭KJV‬‬

  18. 8 And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.

Do it be afraid the thing behind this message

  19. The thing behind this message was that Paul was affraid. Fearing in Corinth his work that he’s done will be ruined by the opposing Jews or the worldliness around him. The Lord told him to speak and not be silent. The solution for this was Paul to obey God and not be afraid and to speak and not be silent. He wants him to keep getting the word of God out and he did that a year and six months. See God didn’t say that they won’t try to stop him but the lord said for Iam with you and no one will Attack you or hurt you these means these people will have no success in what ever they try because Paul has the lord on his side . People we need to stay strong and fear nothing for the lord is on are side an us people need to be bold in the lord and not be afraid don’t let the enemy drag you down don’t let the things and people of this world stop you. Be bold in the lord and not be afraid .

  20.  God’s covering is priceless. Money cannot buy it but our submission and obedience to His authority is how we obtain the covering.
“One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision and told him, “Don’t be afraid! Speak out! Don’t be silent! For I am with you, and no one will attack and harm you, for many people in this city belong to me.” So Paul stayed there for the next year and a half, teaching the word of God.”

    ‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭18:9-11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

  21. 25 This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.

26 And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.

A little correction to a wise man goes a long way. After he was taken to the side and, I love the way the bible explains it. It doesn’t say they rebuked him or told him he was doing it wrong, but rather, “expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.”

“Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee. Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.”

    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭9:8-9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

  22. 6 And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean; from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles.

Sometimes we feel like there’s more we could do or try, but in reality there are just some individuals who explicitly chose to refuse to accept God. There’s not much we can do about that, all we can do is be obedient to the Lord and follow where His Spirit leads us, and do so with joy.

  23. 24 And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus. That’s how we all need to be at some point mighty in the scriptures as apollos was

  24. 3 Paul moved in with them, and they worked together at their common trade of tentmaking.

4 But every Sabbath he was at the meeting place, doing his best to convince both Jews and Greeks about Jesus.

5 When Silas and Timothy arrived from Macedonia, Paul was able to give all his time to preaching and teaching, doing everything he could to persuade the Jews that Jesus was in fact God’s Messiah.

6 But no such luck. All they did was argue contentiously and contradict him at every turn. Totally exasperated, Paul had finally had it with them and gave it up as a bad job. “Have it your way, then,” he said. “You’ve made your bed; now lie in it. From now on I’m spending my time with the other nations.”

7 He walked out and went to the home of Titius Justus, a God-fearing man who lived right next to the Jews’ meeting place.MSG

There are going to be some people that will waste our time and energy knowing all along they are not interested in what we have to offer. We have to be careful that we are not letting the souls that are hungry go to the side while the ones that are not interested take up all our time. Its time we pray hard for the back sliders to return home. We gotta love the sinner NOT the SIN!!!!!

  25. 11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

    I pray in Jesus name
God prepare the peoples minds in Fort Worth to receive your word with all readiness of mind.and place a desire with in your church and those we witness to ,a hunger. To where we search your word daily.
    Thank you Jesus.

  26. 9 Then spake the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace:

10 For I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city.

Let us not fear what man can do to us, because God is greater and he is on our side, so we have nothing to fear. So we should speak the word of God with boldness to people so that people won’t doubt that we serve a mighty God.

Hebrews 13:5-6 Let your conversation be without covetousness and be content with such things as ye have, he hath said, I will never leave thee or forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

  27. Acts 18:14-15 And when Paul was now about to open his mouth,Gallio said unto the Jews,If it were a matter of wrong or wicked lewdness,O you Jews, reason would that I should bear with you: But if it be a question of words and names, and of your Law,look ye to it;for I will be no judge of such matters.

  28. 25 This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John

Because of this, I have been able to speak boldly of the gospel of Jesus Christ to others. With my own testimony I have been able to witness to others of the great things that God has done in my life. I am not going to be conformed and feel like it’s ok to feel satisfied, I want MORE spiritually because I can never have enough of Jesus!!!! Every time I am in his precense it’s just somethig that can’t be explained!!! MORE PEACE MORE JOY!!!!

  29. 26 And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.

27 And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much which had believed through grace:

28 For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publicly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ.

Home Bible Studies work! This man was learned and yet humble, so through expounding the scriptures even more to him in the home, he was able to to understand and then teach that Jesus was Christ. We must be apt to teach at all times, able to show someone the fullness of the truth of being born again of water and spirit and also who Jesus is.

  30. Acts 18:14-15 (Wuest – The New Testament: An Expanded Translation)
14 And when Paul was about to be opening his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, If it were a matter of wrongdoing against someone or pernicious villainy, O Jews, reason would dictate that I should have borne patiently with you. 15 But since it is a parcel of questions concerning a word and names and your own law, you yourselves be seeing to it. As for myself, a judge of these things I do not after mature consideration desire to be.

Gallio means one who lives on milk.

Here we have the jews, whom Paul has just knocked the dust off his sandals about, trying to ensure that Paul is tried.

Gallio whose name signifies immaturity says he isn’t going to get involved in this. This is pertaining to differences of doctrine within two groups of people who claim to serve the same God.

Gallio refuses to get involved in this and even ignores the crowd attacking and beating Sothsenes.

Gallio doesn’t want anything to do with this rivalry.

Unity is paramount for success in the kingdom. We must all work together, and even if we disagree continue to work with and love one another. The vision is greater and worth more than any division. Lest we bicker in front of the one who lives off of milk, and they say they want nothing to do with us because we cannot get along.

  31. 28 For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publicly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ.

It’s still hard for some to accept that Jesus is the Christ. There is no other name under heaven where by we must be saved. We as the children of the most high God have to tell of God’s goodness no matter where were at.

  32. “And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean; from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles.” The man of God (Jesus) delivered the message of God, however their hard hearts stopped them from hearing. One that ignores the man of God is unwise, for it is the Judge (Jesus) that is being ignored. Dear God, soften my heart so that I may hear and obey; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In God we trust”. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  33. 5 And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ.

Some will hear and some will oppose and blasphem against the Word. Yet, it is important for us to shake it off and be lead to those that are seeking for God or searching for More and have not yet realized “Who” they are searching for.

  34. “He walked out and went to the home of Titius Justus, a God-fearing man who lived right next to the Jews’ meeting place. But Paul’s efforts with the Jews weren’t a total loss, for Crispus, the meeting-place president, put his trust in the Master. His entire family believed with him. In the course of listening to Paul, a great many Corinthians believed and were baptized. One night the Master spoke to Paul in a dream: “Keep it up, and don’t let anyone intimidate or silence you. No matter what happens, I’m with you and no one is going to be able to hurt you. You have no idea how many people I have on my side in this city.” That was all he needed to stick it out. He stayed another year and a half, faithfully teaching the Word of God to the Corinthians. In the course of listening to Paul, a great many Corinthians believed and were baptized. ‭‭Acts‬ ‭18:8-11‬ ‭MSG‬‬

Sometimes all it takes is a reminder from the Lord to remind you of how important you are. God has a vision and He chooses specific people to share it with. It is an honor and a privilege to share the gospel with others. Don’t take it for granted.

  35. For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publickly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ. (‭Acts‬ ‭18‬:‭28‬ KJV)

    Jesus is the only way!

And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean: from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles. (‭Acts‬ ‭18‬:‭6‬ KJV)

We as ministers of Christ won’t he able reach them all. Some are much influenced by sin and evil they will deny salvation and deny God. We have to learn to deapart from those that constantly reject him even though it hurts us sometimes. Reach those that want it!

  36. 9 Then spake the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace:

The very words that God gave all the warriors, to not be afraid that He was with them. We can be confident that we have the same promise. That we can all receive the same word from God, to give a prophetic and powerful word in due season.

  37. Act 18:9 — Act 18:10
And the Lord said to Paul one night in a vision, “Do not be afraid, but go on speaking and do not be silent,
for I am with you, and no one will attack you to harm you, for I have many in this city who are my people.”

Fear should not keep us from doing what God has instructed us to do. God has promised us that He will be with us and no harm will come to us when we go and speak the truth which is His Word.

  38. 26 And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.

Apollos was a young preacher who was very zealous for the Lord. He would go to Jewish synagogues and speak boldly. When the power couple Aquila and Priscilla heard him teach with great fervor they knew that they had to share with him the gospel of Jesus. He only knew the baptism of John and needed to hear the revelation of salvation. Like Saul before he became Paul he needed God to stop him in his tracks and show him the way. Sometimes we get bits and pieces of a message but we should be like Apollos and accept revelation of his word.

  39. “But when they opposed Paul and became abusive, he shook out his clothes in protest and said to them, “Your blood be on your own heads! I am innocent of it. From now on I will go to the Gentiles.”'(Acts‬ ‭18:6‬ ‭NIV‬‬)

Paul shook his garments off so that no dust from the synagogue would be left on his clothes, much less his sandals. This was a dramatic way of expressing his rejection of their abuse. Paul was known for his boldness and dramatically demonstrating his messages. We don’t have to phyisically take off anything to signify that we have given up our operation to impact a people. We can simply move on, and shake the dust off.

  40. “And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean: from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles.”

    Luke 9:5 (KJV)
And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them.

He shook his clothes just like the shaking of the dust off of the disciples feet. He told them that heir blood be I their own heads. He tried to teach them of Jesus. When he had exhausted himself he told them that it was their stubbornness that caused him to leave them and go to the Gentiles. Lord let us not be so stubborn that we refuse to listen to the word of Hod and turn to the gods of our past that cause us to oppose ourselves to go against God.

  41. Acts 18:24-38
Leadership doesn’t mean just getting others to follow, it also means equipping and preparing leaders to guide God’s people.
When we come to God Christ for salvation, God calls us to” go and make disciples” Mathew 28:19
When God calls us to leadership, He directs us to help equip others to lead more defectively.
