Acts 1

1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,

2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:

3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;

11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

12 Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day’s journey.

13 And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.

14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

15 And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,)

16 Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus.

17 For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry.

18 Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.

19 And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.

20 For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let another take.

21 Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,

22 Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.

23 And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.

24 And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen,

25 That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.

26 And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

  1. Acts 1:17
For he was numbererd with us and had obtained part ministry.

We must stay in are ministry’s so we can worship the lord god at all times more Jesus. Amen

  2. Verse 24 AMP “And they prayed and said, You, Lord, Who know all hearts ([e]their thoughts, passions, desires, appetites, purposes, and endeavors), indicate to us which one of these two You have chosen”. Same verse CEV “Then they all prayed, “Lord, you know what everyone is like! Show us the one you have chosen”. Verses 24-25 MSG read “Then they prayed, “You, O God, know every one of us inside and out. Make plain which of these two men you choose to take the place in this ministry and leadership that Judas threw away in order to go his own way.” The Lord knows all things; even your desires and wants. These men prayed for direction for they wanted the Lord’s chose, not theirs. We too need to go in prayer and ask God to be in the midst of every decision, every thought, every word, every action and every step we take.

  3. 2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:

3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

These disciples were assembled as a group and commanded they should not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the promise. We must learn the promise is ours if we pay the right price, this society thinks they just just have something because it is available. We must see what it takes to get us what we really want and not to expect things free. Wait for the promise!
How long do we have to wait?

5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

These disciple were like people today, wilt thou restore the kingdom to Israel. So much has been taught and prophesied about Jesus, these people thought is the natural kingdom coming now. It was and is hard to get people to understand Jesus was building a spiritual kingdom at this time. It is not for you to know the times and seasons, this is only for God to know!

  4. 1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach

    Theophilos #G2321
    Θεόφιλος
    Theophilos
    theh-of’-il-os
From G2316 and G5384; friend of God; Theophilus, a Christian: – Theophilus.
    Total KJV occurrences: 2

Theophilos’ name means “Friend of God”. We should always strive to be friends of God because it is always better than the alternative plan…being an enemy of God.

  5. 5. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

    Baptize: to immerse

I used to hear people say, “They got a touch of the Holy Ghost tonight”…I don’t want just a touch of the Holy Ghost, I want to keep getting baptized in it!

  6. 14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

We’re all in this together. God us not concerned by your color or gender when it comes to getting the work of the kingdom done. He is looking for those who are willing to abide by his word. In the bible, God has used both men and women. He even had to use an animal to get his word across at one point. The church today needs more willing vessels thst will declare the goodness of Jesus.

  7. 5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

The promises of God are not always fulfilled immediately. We must learn to patiently wait on the Lord and not go do our own thing.

  8. PROMOTING THE FAITHFUL

21 Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,
22 Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.

Ministry is defined and demonstrated by serving. Occasionally serving becomes taxing and routine. During these seasons is when our FAITH is established and we become FAITHFUL.

One of the strongest attributes of the believer is to be FAITHFUL. It is one of the requirements of the original disciples and remains an imperative attribute in these last days.

I encourage you to today to continue in serving faithfully and if you are not serving the LORD, your church or your Pastor faithfully. Start today, because when a spiritual leader passes into eternity or falls into sin, there will be an opportunity arise to fill the vacancy and GOD will be PROMOTING THE FAITHFUL.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iServe

  9. 5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

The gospel to every corner of the earth! From the farthermost reaches of the globe to the neighbor across the street from our house, everyone needs to hear the truth.

  10. 25 That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.
26 And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

Many are called but few are chosen. I want to be a chosen vessel that can be used by God for God.

  11. The prophecy of judas betraying jesus reminds me alot of the endtime. No matter how much we try and pray to avoid it. We will not be able to stop it. None of Gods people wanted to see the king of kings die. We May see and look in the bible of how much persecution we will face in the last days and ask God to have mercy on us. He will but still prophecy still has to be full filled for God to be glorified in the end.

Like in the days of the antichrist. We want to but we wont be able to stop him. Cause that part of Gods plan. So be it…

  12. 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

If we have not received the power that comes after we are filled with the Holy Ghost, we need to go back to the altar and seek a fresh infilling of His Spirit. It is not a maybe, you might, you can, it says you SHALL receive power after the Holy Ghost comes.

It is the power of God working with us that will allow us to preach Christ to those around, bind up the broken hearted, speak liberty to those that are bound. We cannot do these things on our own, but it is His Spirit.

  13. 4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem,

but wait for the promise of the Father,

which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

    WAIT

God will bless us with different promises. Some are immediate and some we must wait for. Those are not our favorite. We live in a generation of RIGHT NOW, we want everything immediately. We have lost the true treasure of waiting and having patience. A child who struggles to understand the “big picture” and doesn’t comprehend the consequences or results of their actions will also struggle to simply wait. They will squirm, argue and even throw a fit. Yet, how many times do we do that to God? We do not know all the things God is and has already been working on. Your promise could be right down the road and God is asking you to wait.

Psalm 27:14 Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.

It won’t do any good to WAIT with an ugly attitude. The blessing comes in the joy of your waiting! Praise Him in advance for your promise! There is multiple verse declaring those who wait shall receive blessings such as inheriting the earth, and to be honored.

Psalm 37:9 For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the Lord, they shall inherit the earth.

Proverbs 27:18 Whoso keepeth the fig tree shall eat the fruit thereof: so he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured.

Isaiah 30:18 And therefore will the Lord wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the Lord is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him.

If we are to be separated from this World; having joy in waiting is one way to do it! Don’t lose your joy if you have to wait an extra 5 minutes to get a hamburger because the lady in front of you is taking her time, don’t allow something as simple as having to wait in a long line to check to steal your joy! Be light to those in line with you, have joy! A leader leads at all times! Have Joy in Waiting!

  14. 18 Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.

Because one fell, don’t let the wall collapse, replace the brick. And move on.

  15. 14They all met together and were constantly united in prayer, along with Mary the mother of Jesus, several other women, and the brothers of Jesus.

We too should be united as one when praying specifically for certain things. Not only at church, but pray with your family. Families should gather around and pray for specific things, this brings the family as one unit and closer to God. Like the saying goes, the family that prays together stays together!

  16. 4 Once when he was eating with them, he commanded them, “Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you the gift he promised, as I told you before. (NLT)

Jesus made a promise that He had a gift for them, the “key” (if you will) to an eternity with Him in Heaven! But… Don’t leave, you must wait just a few days. God has so many promises, blessings, and victories He wishes to fulfill in our lives but half the time we are too impatient to wait and see them through. We are a right now generation that when something doesn’t go our way the instant we expect it to, we pitch a fit and walk away. But that’s not how God works! He does not operate on our time, we operate in His and guess what, most of the time His timing won’t make sense to us until after the fact when we can look back and say, “Wow, ok I see what you did there God, thanks.” We need to get our heads out of our selfish time demanding minds and begin thanking God in advance for what He has in store and even more so, thank Him not only the entire time you wait but for the wait, because you don’t know what God is waiting for, He could be putting off for bigger and better things, just for you!

  17. Acts 1:24
“And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen.”

When making choses and decisions for our lives (no matter what it is), we should always pray and seek the counselling and guidance of the Lord. He knows our hearts, and He knows what is best for us. Wants we have heard from Him, Obey Him.

  18. 5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

And the promise is still being fufilled, thank you God for your faithfulness

  19. “After saying this, he was taken up into a cloud while they were watching, and they could no longer see him.”
    ‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭1:9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

I don’t want to lose sight of God that I can no longer see or hear him. Just as much as I have that desire for Him, I want it to grow even more to where it’s unbearable for me to go one day without Him. I need and want Him everyday and I pray that my hunger grows stronger for Him and that everyone around me will crave that hunger in wanting/knowing Him more.

  20. “They nominated two: Joseph Barsabbas, nicknamed Justus, and Matthias. Then they prayed, “You, O God, know every one of us inside and out. Make plain which of these two men you choose to take the place in this ministry and leadership that Judas threw away in order to go his own way.” They then drew straws. Matthias won and was counted in with the eleven apostles.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭1:23-26‬ ‭MSG‬‬

There is danger(death) in living life according to the desires of your flesh!

We are seeing many brother/sisters departing from truth for a moment of pleasure.

Judas disconnected himself(from the church) when he fell into sin,and then committed spiritual suicide. Repent and turn yourself back into the arms of a merciful SAVIOR.

It sounds so simple to repent, but it truly is a matter of the heart for every individual to come home to a merciful GOD.

  21. 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. I love this verse that we have power in jesus name!!!!

  22. Do and teach

1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,

I’ve been studying a book and in this book the author talks about God giving him revelations about himself or things about the church. He says before he ever stands up to teach them he first apply them to his life. It is important for us to understand that God reveals things to us on individual bases so that we are transformed to become more like him but we are to also transform others to be more like him too.

  23. Acts 1:6 (NASB Strong’s)
6 So when they had come together, they were asking Him, saying, “Lord, is it at this time You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?”

The apostles wanted to restore the kingdom to Israel. They were tired of Roman oppression. However even at the last few moments of Christ in his resurrected body they forgot what Jesus said.

    John 18:36 (NASB Strong’s)
36 Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would be fighting so that I would not be handed over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not of this realm.”

The kingdom of God is the dominion, and manifested rule of Jesus on earth. It is supernatural. It is the spiritual manifesting itself in the natural.

So the question we must ask is whose kingdom are we wanting?

The church is not the kingdom, but a vehicle to further the kingdom of God. God didn’t call us to build the church, that’s his job. He didn’t call us to be about his Church but about his kingdom. When we are kingdom minded the church will grow, and we will experience harvest, and revival.

Jesus said for us to seek FIRST the KINGDOM of God and his RIGHTEOUSNESS all these things shall be added unto you.

Our focus determines our final destination.

  24. “Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen”. The Lord (Jesus) chose, as man’s choice may not have been God’s (Judge) choice. All the more why one should be mindful of the man of God that is chosen by God. Dear God, open my eyes and ears to truly see and hear; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In God we trust”. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  25. 20 For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let another take.

The verses in psalms I see matching this closely is psalm 109 especially verse 8.
    Psalms 109:8
    Let his days be few;
and let another take his office.

The word bishoprick means office of a bishop.
I’m not sure if psalms 109 was written about judas and his betrayal but it seems the disciples felt it best to follow the direction and not just leave his position in ministry vacant. When a person leaves ministry for any reason it leaves a gap. One that needs to be filled. If a replacement isn’t given then it falls on other members of the ministry to bear that extra weight.

  26. 7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
God knows what the future holds just put your trust in him he got everything in control. Know the faith God know best.

  27. “On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭1:4‬ ‭NIV‬‬

It may not always feel like the right thing to do but if you’re commanded to wait don’t be a fool and try to do things your way. There is a time and place where God will lead you when He wants you. Continue to build an intimate relationship with God and He will give you instruction.

  28. 5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

Amen!!! I pray and ask Jesus to help me to be sensitive to Gods spirit and help me invite those that are hungry for hope. I will never forget the day our car broke down last year and as a human we saw with humans eyes. We had no credit, down payment, or idea how we were going to get a car. Yet God had a purpose and were able to meet the Blancos 🙂 it’s been a blessing great big blessing to see how they have been growing spiritually more and more. Their testimony is amazing and grateful God used our situation to turn someone’s life. That is the type of vision that I have to invite and bring souls to Jesus Christ and Jesus will do the rest 🙂 MORE SOULS!!!

  29. Acts 1:4
And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

No matter how many times we want to go out on our own and do things when we want to do things, it is always wise to wait on Jesus cause has has promises for us all we have to do is be patient and the promise will come when the time is right.

  30. “The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭1:1‬ ‭KJV‬‬

This is a letter written to Theophilus. Theophilus means “friend of God”. He was the man that the Gospel Luke was written to. Here he is being encouraged by the trials and testimonies of Saul/Paul’s life.

  31. 24 And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen,

How many heartaches could we prevent in our lives if we just seek Him? The Lord is wanting to lead our lives. He is the good shepherd and we are his sheep. It is the wisest thing to pray and ask God. Then listen and obey. His ways are far better than ours.

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3:5-6‬ ‭KJV

  32. Acts 1:4-8
    VISON TO EMPOWER AND DIRECT!!!
Jesus followers ask him when His kingdom would come… Jesus doesn’t tell them, but instead communicates a VISION about reaching the world.
Apostles though DEFENSE but Jesus wanted them to think OFFENSE!!!

WE SHOULD ALWAYS THINK OFFENCE when it come to a VISION. When your favorite team is playing and they are running the football their goal is scoring points and their objective is to do a TOUCHDOWN!!!!
THAT SHOULD BE OUR GOAL AS CHURCH.

    MORE TOUCHDOWNS!!!

  33. Receive Power

8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

The Disciples did not simply pray on the day of Pentecost and then never seek God again. A continually refilling of His Spirit is evident in them in the power, mighty works, Apostolic authority, divine revelation, and unity by which the operated. We can speak in tongues daily but if we do not truly tarry for God and to be endued with power from on high, we will miss a key component of walking as the first church did. They first church went through many highly challenging situations but they endured and thrived because they did not cease in waiting to receive the power that followed the promise of the Holy Ghost.

    Acts 4:33
And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.

    Acts 6:8
And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

  34. 14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

Prior to the great revival in the Book of Acts, they all were in one accord in prayer. Prayers and supplications of all the saints was the key ingredient.

  35. When we received the Holy Ghost, we got the power of God working in us, and the power to change things, to be that witness. So, have faith and tell the good news!

8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

    “Be a witness”………………………………………………
