Acts 4

1 And as they spake unto the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees, came upon them,

2 Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead.

3 And they laid hands on them, and put them in hold unto the next day: for it was now eventide.

4 Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand.

5 And it came to pass on the morrow, that their rulers, and elders, and scribes,

6 And Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem.

7 And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this?

8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,

9 If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole;

10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.

11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.

12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

14 And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.

15 But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves,

16 Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it.

17 But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name.

18 And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.

19 But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.

20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.

21 So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done.

22 For the man was above forty years old, on whom this miracle of healing was shewed.

23 And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them.

24 And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:

25 Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things?

26 The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ.

27 For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together,

28 For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done.

29 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word,

30 By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.

31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

32 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.

33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.

34 Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,

35 And laid them down at the apostles’ feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.

36 And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus,

37 Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

  1. See how appearance can be an effect, by just hanging out with Jesus, you just can’t help but have some holiness rub off on you………”So stay close….”

13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

    “Stay Close”……………………………………………………………………………..

  2. 31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness. Thats how I want our church to be when we pray

  3. Verses 29-31 MSG “And now they’re at it again! Take care of their threats and give your servants fearless confidence in preaching your Message, as you stretch out your hand to us in healings and miracles and wonders done in the name of your holy servant Jesus.” While they were praying, the place where they were meeting trembled and shook. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak God’s Word with fearless confidence.” This seems like us today……Lord bind us together in unity to work together boldly in fearless confidence in Jesus name.

  4. NO OTHER NAME!!!!!!! BUT JESUS!!!!!

6 And Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem.
7 And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this?

12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

The enemy fights dirty, he is not going to seat there by himself, he is going to make sure he brings everyone and everything back on your face so he surrounds himself with his own team, fear, insecurities, self condemnation, distractions, deception, destruction, and all your past. he comes armed with everything he can against you; but aren’t you glad that Jesus is the ONLY NAME WHERE WE CAN BE SAVED. The enemy can come at you with everything he has and needs but don’t let him fool you THE ONLY ONE IN CONTROL OF YOUR PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE IS JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD. Is there a purpose in all trials and tribulations?? Only God can say but I do know what He had said before Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
    Hold tight be strong and courageous for that is all He has asked from us as we faced this world as Holy separate from this world. Deuteronomy 3:16 Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. His peculiar people. 1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;
There are 2 definitions to Peculiar and in a certain way they are both correct, #1 strange or odd; unusual. This applies because in the eyes of today’s world we dress different, we act different, and we stand up as weird strange. #2 belonging exclusively to: I like this one better for I belong EXCLUSIVELY TO JESUS CHRIST, MIND, HEART, AND SOUL. WE ALL NEED THE BOLDNESS OF PETER, THE STRATEGIES OF PAUL, AND THE COURAGE OF CHRIST. Pray for the hunger of the HOLY GHOST to grow on every one of our visitors that they can receive the Holy Ghost as it is promised. THANK YOU JESUS FOR YOUR SALVATION!!!!!! AMEN AND AMEN.

  5. 7. And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this?

    10. Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.

This man was healed by the name of Jesus Christ, and when you pray for others, they will be healed by the name of Jesus Christ, and when you get your healing, it will be by the name of Jesus Christ, for it is the only name with Power!

  6. 20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.

21 So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done.

The Apostles and disciples said we cannot speak, but what we see and hear. We today are the same way there is not anything else for us to preach about or expound about except what we see and hear. The time has come for us to see the miracles of God in our day. He is the same God today that he was in the time of the Apostle Peter, we need faith to believe and trust God to work for us.

  7. Neither was there any of them that lacked.
I’m finding that when you do God’s work, when your obedient, when you keep the faith everything is provided for you. EVERYTHING!

13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

14 And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.

Over and over again we see that when people are healed by a great miracle from God that it brings God great honor and glory. There were five thousand added to the believers just because of one miracle. That is a good investment in the Kingdom. I truly believe if we could “be with Jesus” and allow him to anoint us with that miraculous virtue, then we would be able to be used by God to do great things in the Kingdom of God and bring multitudes to the truth.

  9. MORE JESUS, MORE HOLY GHOST

7 And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this?
8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,
    9 If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole;
10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.

12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Living LIFE filled with the Holy Ghost gives the believer courage and confidence through FAITH to speak the name of JESUS to any and all that will hear. The apostle Peter was questioned about his authority to operate in the supernatural.

While Peter had their attention with the miracle of healing, he exercised his opportunity to share JESUS in a more eternal way. While the healing was temporal, salvation is eternal.

  10. 19 But Peter and John replied, “Do you think God wants us to obey you rather than him? 20 We cannot stop telling about everything we have seen and heard.”

I, I gotta praise and I gotta let it out!
    Can’t Praising His Name!

What are you going to allow to mute your voice?
What is going to hinder you from sharing the Gospel?

As Peter and John said “We cannot stop telling everything!”.

  11. 28 But everything they did was determined beforehand according to your will. (NLT)

It’s all in His timing, it’s all in His hands; whether we like it and understand it or now, it’s beyond our control and ability to try and comprehend. Just as God spoke to us last night: trust in Him, He has carried you and lead you this far, why would He leave you now, why would you begin to lose hope now? Trust in the Lord and know that if He was willing to die for you, He surely will see you through whatever situation you face.

  12. What’s in a name?

Does a name bear with it everything about a person? Does Bryan Linton really illustrate everything about me? Should it?

I think so. How else is one measured? By one’s actions; but who is performing these actions? Think of all the things we know about Jesus. Philippians 2:9-11 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Proverbs 22:1 A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches…

James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
Luke 10:17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.

  13. 8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,

Numerous times we find this same phrase in the book of ACTS – “Being filled with the Holy Ghost”

It is such an important principle in our lives that that as Pastor demonstrated last week we are full and running over. I’m reminded of a childhood sunday school song:

Running over, running over – my cup is full and running over.

When we are so full and running over with the Holy Ghost it can’t help but run over onto others. We never know when God will place us in the midst of a crowd of people that need to feel and see the Holy Ghost active in us so that they desire that same spirit in them.

  14. 10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.

11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.

12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Its all about the power of Jesus christ! Don’t act like you dont know.

  15. 24 And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:

When they headed about the news that God has made they were praising together in a unity and praising him by telling the Lord that all the art that he has made with all his art because they knew that the Lord had made the heaven the earth and all the oceans.

  16. 13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

Praise God, there is hope for me! Even God uses people who are unlearned an ignorant. Because some days the more I know the less I know. Thank you Jesus.

  17. “But Peter and John replied, “Do you think God wants us to obey you rather than him? We cannot stop telling about everything we have seen and heard.””
Acts of the Apostles 4:19-20 NLT

We must let Jesus out.. Go tell everyone what we have seen and heard!!

  18. 19 But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.
20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.
21 So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done.

Speak about what you see and experience.

Being filled with the Holy Ghost and receiving blessings and miracles. Our church has been blessed to see these things. I have gone to other church and have spoken about what God does. After service several of the saints ce up to me and said ,” how many of them truly got a touch from God? Some of them probable faked it.” I can only speak of what I’ve seen with my own eyes. Blind eyes seeing. Cancer gone. Half hearts becoming whole. Pain relieved. The book of acts church we are. We are that church. We are becoming more and more.

  19. 13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

Lets speak the word of God with BOLDNESS!! Now is not the time to be quiet about our faith and what we believe in. For if everyone else can talk about their beliefs with boldness, what makes the church think we can’t?

  20. Acts 4:13
When they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and discovered that they were uneducated and ordinary men, they were amazed and recognized these men had been with Jesus.

When God is in control of our lives we have power, authority, and wisdom which makes us confident and bold in His Word. Society teaches us that we must be educated and have degrees to be these things. Education is good but it has a limit because it’s all in the natural realm and it’s knowledge that comes from man, but God teaches us and shows us more in the supernatural realm because God has no limit. He will sometimes use uneducated people to teach those that are educated and show them HIS Power.

  21. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

No other name! No other name I know! Thank you God for the power and the name of Jesus

  22. Acts 4

v 1-22 The Arrest and Trail of Peter and John
v 23-31 The Prayer for Boldness
v 32-37 Lives Among Early Believers

The church forms into a community despite persecution. The foundation is set for apostolic boldness.

  23. 33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.

Great power and great grace because they had all just been filled with the Holy Ghost- which is the power to witness. This chapter keeps repeating the power of using his name! This should not be a secret weapon- using the name of Jesus coupled with being full of the Holy Ghost must be taught by example. It’s already begun at POFW, so now it’s time to witness to family and friends.

  24. 14 And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.

The reason why the religious leaders could not deny the man was healed was because he was standing with them. Miracles come from a place of expectation and the testimony we have when they come to pass is powerful. Your miracle like your testimony goes wherever you go.

  25. 31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

When we pray things happen because prayer works!!!!when we pray we speak to the almighty King of Kings and then filled with His Spirit which leads us to speak to others with boldness His Word. When were filled we overflow with His precense like Pastor preached last Sunday and will help us speak to others of God. Jesus is the light and the truth. When we speak to Jesus our faith increases because we see the things that we prayed for come:) My God listens because I am His child, as a mother I can relate to how much MORE my God loves us. He will never forsake me and will always be faithful. He died at the cross so my sins could be washed away. Hallelujah Thank u Jesus!!

  26. Acts 4:13-14
Peter and John amazed the court, because they were unschooled or uneducated in rabbinic theology and were ordinary nonprofessional men. As the court listened to Peter and John speak, they realized that Jesus, who Himself had sought neither formal theological education or the status of rabbi, was the source of their teaching. Considering this fact, they marveled at the healing of the lame man. They could neither deny the miracle, neither could they afford to acknowledge it.

  27. 31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

When we pray we can shake the earth and move mountains, not because we have the ability to do so, but because God gives us the ability to do so. When he sees people who have their heart set on him and that are united in one accord unto him then he will be with his people and he will answer our prayers.

  28. Acts 4:31-35
31, And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together: and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.
32, And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.
33, And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.
34, Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,
35, And laid them at the apostles’ feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.

This passage of scripture made me think of Pastor’s message yesterday when he talked about Prayer & Giving.
Dorcas was a woman full of good works and alms deeds, and Cornelius’ prayers and his alms were come up for a memorial before God. Now we read that they Prayed and were filled with the Holy Ghost; they were of one heart and one soul; and then those who had land or houses, sold them and Brought the Money and laid it at the apostles’ feet. Once again, we see Prayer & Giving.

    MORE Prayer & MORE Giving!

  29. 4 Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand.
I chose tonight to use my Deaf bible to read the Word. American Sign Language is beautiful and emotional. Everything is done with passion and movement in every fiber of the body. God’s Word is the same way. He loves so deeply, through everything that is in this Earth. There is no corner untouched, no one unaffected in some way. 5000 people were moved because of this deep love. These people were brought back to life, full of passion again.

  30. 34 Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,

35 And laid them down at the apostles’ feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.

This shows the importance of giving. It wasn’t about who could hold on to the most material things. It was about helping out those who were in need. The church has got to get back to the point of reaching out to those who are in need. We can’t expect God to bless us abundantly and not be willing to give back. The heart of a Christian should be like the heart of God. A heart that cares for the people.

  31. Be Whole
10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.

It is so easy to say that we can be whole by the name of Jesus. Yet so many people walk out of our churches still in the same state they came in. We must seek God in prayer for a revival of the name of Jesus and utilize the power that is in His name.

    More Prayer!

I want to be found guilty of praying too much.

  32. Take this whole world, Just give me Jesus!

13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

14 And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.

This one of my favorite preaching points to hear.

Take this whole world, Just give me Jesus!

Just to say you’ve been with Jesus is powerful. I prayed with a man on outreach about a year ago. What he said afterward made me very thankful because when i was praying with him i felt the power of the Holy Ghost and things were defiantly moving and turning. What he said was “I knew you were from Michael Watts church because I could feel his spirit. I believe that is true because when we are with Jesus we have the same Spirit.

When Jesus shows up there is no taking credit for it or denying it. This is why we have to get out of the way and let God do what he will with us.

The song the ensemble sang last night really told the example of this well. LET HM MOVE!! This is when we are not concerned about credit, or accolades, we just want to be with Jesus. When we are with Him, things just happen. I would rather something awesome happen that i cant take credit for or explain then to be able to take credit for it because I can explain it. LET HIM MOVE

  33. “But Peter and John replied, “Do you think God wants us to obey you rather than him? We cannot stop telling about everything we have seen and heard.””
    ‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭4:19-20‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Just like Peter and John did in basically saying we obey God, we should all do as well. Why should we go against God? Why not tell people about God and all the wonderful things he’s done?

  34. “And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this?” We know the apostles did the will and work of God, and in the name of God (name: Jesus). What if one was set in the midst and asked the same, would the answer be the same, or another name. Dear God, forgive me and let my actions be worthy of the same; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In God we trust”. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  35. Acts 4:31 (KJV Strong’s)
31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

Shaken – 4531. σαλεύω saleúō; fut. saleúsō, from sálos (G4535), wave. To move to and fro, shake. Trans., to put into a state of waving, rocking, vibratory motion.

The word shaken here is the same one used of the end time shaking that will occur.

    Mark 13:25 (KJV Strong’s)
25 And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken.

    What caused the shaking?

I believe this was caused by confidence in the word of God, speaking the word of God, and then praying according to the word of God.

When we are in the will of God he will move heaven and earth to accomplish what he desires.

  36. 7 And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this?

8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,

    9 If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole;

10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.

Saying by the power of God would have been an acceptable answer. God is all encompassing. The Pharisees and Sadducees all believe in God. Lots of religions believe in a god. But it was the name of Jesus that they used. They proclaimed with boldness that this miracle was done in the name of Jesus. There is power in the name of Jesus! When they spoke the name of Jesus they proclaimed who God was and that they could not deny it. There was no room for anyone to try and imagine it being another god, it was Jesus!

  37. “Jesus is “ ‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’ Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.””
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭4:11-12‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Without God we will never have a steady foundation or salvation. He is the balance we need to build ourselves higher. We are the builders of our lives but we need to realize what we are building with. Are we focused on the wants of this world or the needs in order to reach heaven? God is the foundation we need, the foundation we can trust.

  38. Salvation for Jew and Gentile alike is exclusively through the name of Jesus Christ

Jesus Is the Way, the Truth, and the Life
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him,I am the way the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

  39. 8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,

    1 Peter 3:15
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

If we are to always be ready to an answer, the apostles gave us the direction into which we need to follow. We need to be filled with the HG at all times. Pentecostal women typically don’t need an introduction if they are walking modestly, so I think this is even more important for the fellas. Notice that it wasn’t until we had finished speaking to the Sad-u-see’s that they realized they had been with Jesus. Men, it’s more than just your outward that reflects God, it’s your heart.

  40. “For Jesus is the one referred to in the Scriptures, where it says, ‘The stone that you builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.’ There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.””

Jesus must be the foundation of our lives. Without Him there is nothing we can do. Salvation comes by Jesus our savior. What are we standing on if not Jesus? All other things will pass away but Jesus doesn’t change.

“Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself.”
