Acts 5

1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,

2 And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

5 And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.

6 And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him.

7 And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.

8 And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much.

9 Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.

10 Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.

11 And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.

12 And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch.

13 And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them.

14 And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)

15 Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.

16 There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.

17 Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation,

18 And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison.

19 But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said,

20 Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.

21 And when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught. But the high priest came, and they that were with him, and called the council together, and all the senate of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.

22 But when the officers came, and found them not in the prison, they returned and told,

23 Saying, The prison truly found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within.

24 Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow.

25 Then came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people.

26 Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence: for they feared the people, lest they should have been stoned.

27 And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,

28 Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.

29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.

31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

33 When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them.

34 Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space;

35 And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men.

36 For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought.

37 After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.

38 And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought:

39 But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.

40 And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

41 And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

  1. 38 And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought:

39 But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.

40 And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

41 And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

This is some of the wisest counsel that could be given to anyone at this time, if God be for this how can we fight God. This Jesus name message has been persecuted from day one because Jesus did not come the way the Jews thought he would. Men were persecuted because they continued to teach and preach in the name of Jesus. We must remember today how important the name of Jesus is and keep preaching and teaching in the name of Jesus.

  2. 41 And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

Persecutions may come, but we must not let it stop our faith in God or stop us from preaching his Word.

  3. “The apostles left the high council rejoicing that God had counted them worthy to suffer disgrace for the name of Jesus.”
    ‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭5:41‬ ‭NLT

They left rejoicing! They didn’t wait! They rejoiced immediately!

  4. 38. And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought:

    39. But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.

Lord, I pray for the sensitivity and wisdom to be for what You are for and against what You are against in Jesus Name, Amen.

  5. MANS COVENANTS ARE SUBLECT TO GODS COVENANTS

This couple made covenant with each other in the privacy of their own home. They assumed to be safe and convinced in pulling this deal off. However the all seeing and all knowing eyes, ears and hand of GOD did not have respect for the ill advised offering that was brought to the apostles.

Though this couple made a covenant with each other to be dishonest and hide the truth; the power of JESUS and HIS Kingdom brought the TRUTH to light for everyone to see and establish the fact of MANS COVENANTS ARE SUBLECT TO GODS COVENANTS.

  6. Untoward Generation

I had a conversation last week about why the youth of today does not respect the laws of the Bible. Why do young adults push the boundaries? It is my opinion as Pastor said this week we need a modern day Ananias and Sapphira. I believe this generation is so accustomed to immediate results that if God does not react immediately against sin; there is no consequence. In an age of immediate results; from instant food to instant communication, if punishment is not swift it is perceived as not real.

Of course the potential for immediate response from God is always there. However, if one chooses to lie, steal or cheat in some way, if the deed is not caught by a physical authority (parents/police/spouse) there is no immediate consequence. Enough secret deeds with no response from authorities, one can become cold hearted toward the urgings of the Holy Ghost to not do those things.

It takes a relationship with Jesus to make a difference in a person’s life. Religion and positive thinking and feel good sermons does not have the power to persuade people to live a righteous life.
The warnings of God are real:
Proverbs 6:16-19 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
Numbers 32:23 But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out.
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Galatians 5: 19-21 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

  7. God is Worthy of Reverence!!!!!

Webster Dictionary defines Reverence as: profound adoring awed respect.

Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

We have gone so wrong by not teaching the new generations to have this Fear of the Lord in them. When the bible speaks of Fearing the Lord is more about Reverence, Respecting, knowing that God could snap His Fingers and we drop dead in this case build that Reverence to the Lord that many believed and converted. Not only for dropping dead Ananias and his wife; but mostly for all the Signs, Wonders, and Miracles that were preformed as the multitudes watch. When I was a child I would of never thought of doing some of the things I see done while my Pastor is preaching, the passing of notes, playing or texting on phones, talking at the same time he is. My mother would of had pulled me outside and give me a what for. We should always have a high level of respect, adoration, and awed for our God Jesus Christ; who gave it ALL for you and me. This things are learned from a very early age but don’t worry there is always time and room for improvement. If you see them passing notes stop them and explain why is it wrong. Take phones away while they are in church there is no need for them to have it. If the got the bible on the phone get them the book. The Holy Bible most be tangible for you to fall in love with His word. How else will the learn the order of the books. The phone gives too much temptations. We should teach by our own actions. They will learn respect if we show respect. Let the redeemed say so. Thank you Lord for your word says that it was not just the land where they were; but it says: 16 There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.
I claim in the name of Jesus Christ, Weatherford, Bedford, Benbrook, Mineral Wells, Granbury, etc. ALL CITIES IN AND AROUND OUR NEW LOCATIONS IN JESUS HOLY AND PRECIOUS NAME AMEN AND AMEN.
Joshua 1:3 Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.

  8. 2 And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

When you lie to your brother or sister in Christ or especially when you lie to the man of God in your life, you’re not just lying to the person but you are lyng to God as well. We know it’s important not to lie, but it is also important to be honest and not try to hold things back or dance around the truth, because it can be another form of deception.

  9. iLove to eat More Word

3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

God took sin seriously in the book of Acts. Folks in denominational churches have really watered down the Word. Most teach that God is Love (which He is) however, that same God of Love is a God that desires structure in His book of Acts Church. For the churches of this modern day society to truly return to the book of Acts experience, they must expect the same type of judgement against blatant in your face sin. The fire of the Holy Ghost is Power but it is also a refiner’s fire.

  10. Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men. (‭Acts‬ ‭5‬:‭29‬ KJV)

That’s the problem in today’s world. People rather choose to obey the voices of the world than to obey the voice of the TRUE LIVING GOD,

We can not be shocked by what is going on in today’s world, it’s all written in the bible. Sin is taking control in the lives of people who choose not to live according to The Word of GOD.
As Christians we can not be ashamed of the gospel, we must continue to live, breath, eat, teach, and preach what we know is true. I choose to live in obedience to The word of GOD,

The time is short, we must deliver the gospel into the hearts of the people! I want my city to be saved, it’s my prayer for our city/nation. We must stand in the gap for lost souls, they need a Saviour as much as you and I do.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. (‭Romans‬ ‭1‬:‭16‬ KJV)

  11. 4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.
I believe that what’s so bad about their lying is that as Peter said they conceived in their heart to lie to God. Their motives were not pure and God knew it. It’s important to be honest with God in all things especially your money and your spiritual condition.

  12. 29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

God gave us life, not man. What did man do for us, God is the master of all things, so we should follow and obey him.

  13. 1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,

2 And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

It is so important that the man of the house be the leader in the home and bring unity to that home with Godly, Biblical principles.

We see in this example that the husband shared the plan to be deceptive with this wife, and then executed the plan. The path that he chose for both of them brought death to each of them.

Husbands, Fathers – what path are you taking your family done? Are you teaching them Godly principles? Are you upholding BIBLICAL standards of truth and righteousness in your home? Are you teaching your family to pray and seek the face of God? Are you teaching them by example to be filled with the Holy Ghost and running over everyday that you can be an instrument to win others by your example?

Take a stand, don’t be deceived. Eternity is forever!

  14. 41 The apostles left the high council rejoicing that God had counted them worthy to suffer disgrace for the name of Jesus. (NLT)

How do you react when people put you down for your faith and belief in God? Like the apostles, we too should praise God!

  15. 25 Then someone came and said, “Look! The men you put in jail are standing in the temple courts teaching the people.”
38 Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. 39 But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.”

The apostles never stopped talking about God even when they were put in jail God provided and made away for them. Don’t let nothing stop you from spreading Gods word. In veserse 38-39 shows that there is only 1 God!! Many people tried to be gods but they all died, but the apostles God and MY God still lives for God is the 1 true living God!!!! Don’t fight against God because he already won the battle and we are his children so we are victorious. What a mighty, true living God we serve!!! 🙂

  16. Acts 5
v 1-11 The Judgement of Ananias and Sapphira
v 12-16 The Apostles Perform Miracles
v 17-42 Further Trouble for the Apostles

Some posit that the fear of God will be struck into the church if we had an Acts 5 experience today. I respectfully disagree. We live in an age of “reason.” If this were to happen, it would be denoted as coincidence by many. The autopsy would show the cause of death and that would be the end of it to the majority. Some would perceive that God’s judgement would be involved, but most would carry on just as they were.

You want scripture? Luke 16:19-31. We have the Bible to testify Christ. If they won’t believe the prophets and the man of God, they are not going to believe. The change may be apparent in a few months afterwards at most, but in time all will be as it was.

Real change comes from falling in love with Jesus.

  17. 39 But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.
40 And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.
41 And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

Would you count it worthy to be beaten?

Many of us wouldn’t but what if it was for the name of Jesus? Through all of the this Isis stuff many “Christians” have been murdered for Christ s name sake. Whoa be unto us who don’t think this will happen here in America. Get ready Jesus is coming back for his bride.

  18. But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? (‭Acts‬ ‭5‬:‭3‬ KJV)

Son is sin a lie is a lie.
After sin is finished it will always bring forth death. No matter what.
Ananias came to with a sinful heart expecting their recognition… Well he sure got it. We must be humble and not lie to the Holy Ghost.

And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought: But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God. (‭Acts‬ ‭5‬:‭38-39‬ KJV)

If you are fake it will surely show through the fruit that reproduce. So be careful who you follow.
You can NOT! Over throw the power of God. Unless you try willing to over power it. Jesus is not fake nor is he dead. Let him do his work.

    NEVER STOP PREACHING JESUS!!!!!

  19. Act 5:38 — Act 5:39
    So in the present case I tell you, keep away from these men and let them alone, for if this plan or this undertaking is of man, it will fail;
but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You might even be found opposing God!” So they took his advice,

A lot of the times we makes plans for our lives, what we want to do, how we want to do them and when we want them to be done, but those are our plans. When God has plans for us we must be careful not to stubborn wanting our own plans to come to pass and resist what God has for our lives because then we will be opposing the the will of God and fall into disobedience. No matter how hard we try to resist God His Will is greater.

  20. 28 “Didn’t we give you strict orders not to teach in Jesus’ name? And here you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are trying your best to blame us for the death of this man.” 29 Peter and the apostles answered, “It’s necessary to obey God rather than men. MSG

There is no other name than the name of Jesus!! What are your actions showing today? Are you showing Christ? I had much rather follow Christ and be mocked and talked about than to miss the going away of the saints. I want to make sure I have a humble spirit and listening when he calls me. When we/you do something wrong don’t blame others own up to what you have done and fix the problem.

  21. 1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,
2 And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

Being the head of the household affects what happens to your family. The husband is the one that has the calling of God to determine what direction the family should turn. Since the begenning with Adam and Eve, the husband has the opportunity to change things.
Genesis 3:6 “When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.”

“Who was with her” to me it’s just crazy that the Adam was with her and knowing that they should not eat out of that tree, Adam still let her eat from that tree. As a woman I pray that God gives my husband wisdom, knowledge, and overall God fearing love because he is the leader of us. Thankful to be part of POFW because out eyes have opened and no longer are defeated by the enemy. The enemy had us but Jesus took care of us and brought us here at the rigt time. 🙂 thank you Jesus!!!

  22. 41 And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

Wow , even the apostles suffered shame. I always put feelings of shame as a bad feeling. But they rejoiced over suffering shame.

    Thank you Jesus.

  23. 19 But an angel of the Lord came at night, opened the gates of the jail, and brought them out. Then he told them, 20“Go to the Temple and give the people this message of life!”

God does miraculous things when you least expect it. They apostles were freed physically, but they still had a mission to complete. God opened the gate so they could go out and continue preaching the word of God. So many people are depressed in the lives, that they need to hear a message of hope, faith and life. Its up to us to continue spreading the message of life!

  24. 41 And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

I will rejoice in the Lord always! We don’t have to wait till everything works out to start praising God. We can praise God during and after the storm!

  25. Acts 5:39 (KJV Strong’s)
39 But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.

The high priest stood commanding the apostles to defy the will and purpose of God. This serves as a warning that we can be in position, wear the right clothes, and be at the right place yet not have a clue what the will of God really is.

In fact the high priest thought he was doing God’s will. I pray to never be in a place where my fervent action that I think is God’s will is actually against at him.

  26. Acts 5:1-4
1, BUT a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,
2, And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.
3, But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?
4, Whilest it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

Numbers 32:23 says, “… behold ye have sinned against the Lord: and be sure your sin will find you out.”
Isaiah 29: 15 says, “Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the Lord, and their works are done in the dark, and they say, Who seeth us? and who knoweth us?”

You may hide or think your hiding things from man, but you will never hide things from Almighty God. We serve a all seeing, all knowing, every present God. He knows every little thing about us. He knows the thoughts and intents of our hearts.

  27. 28 Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.

Regardless of man’s opinion of what we should do God is the only one we should obey. Let’s fill this region with the Gospel.

  28. 41 And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

If God be for you who can be against you? The work of God will continue and there is not power of the enemy that can prevail against the church of God almighty. Keep on preaching and speaking Jesus. I’m the midst of trouble and trials he is there with us.

  29. 17 Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation, 18 And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison. 19 But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said.

A true man of God (JESUS) would never condemn or become angry over healings, miracles, or blessings. One that becomes upset or jealous of another’s healing, miracle, or blessing would be wise to seek God’s forgiveness. Dear God, heal and bless others so that I may rejoice with them and give you the glory; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In God we trust”. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  30. While you may be able to hide things from others, you cannot hide it from God. He sees everything you do no matter how secretive you try to be. The devil know this and wants you to continue to think that everything is alright. God can show you the truth if you will allow him to.

  31. 12 And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch.

We have already been prophecies that the next level of revival will come through this next barrier of faith. These signs and wonders didn’t happen by some reserved, stay at church apostles. All of these things happen amongst the people. This is the house to house that the word of God speaks about. Don’t forget you are but a step in faith from signs and wonders happen by your own hands.

  32. In this chapter it talks about obeying God and then in the second half of this chapter where the apostles were sent to jail they were sent to the council to talk. However, they were not shy about God and they proclaimed all the glorious things He has done and by doing this the had a member of this council take their side which allowed the apostles to leave rejoicing the great and mighty God.

Just imagine if we shared what God has done and allowed Him to work in our lives by us witnessing. It makes me wonder if it would help us in situations or just adding a friend in our lives. The results of allowing God to work could be anything. Now it’s up to us to get that confidence to go talk about Jesus to others and bring them.

God give us, give me that burden You have for the lost, open our eyes, my eyes to see and give us, give me the words to bring them towards You. Let us be sensitive to You and Your voice, open our ears, open my ears to hears Your voice. Thank You God for hearing me. Thank you for all You have done and the things You already have been doing. Great and mighty are you merciful God You are! Thank You!

  33. “Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.””
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭5:38-39‬ ‭NIV‬‬

there is nothing wrong with sharing to others the glory of God, but if a person shares things to receive glory for themselves, then God will take care of them. Focus on the duty God has given you. All you can do is show Christ to them.

  34. The end of verses 12-16 in the MSG says “…..They even carried the sick out into the streets and laid them on stretchers and bedrolls, hoping they would be touched by Peter’s shadow when he walked by. They came from the villages surrounding Jerusalem, throngs of them, bringing the sick and bedeviled. And they all were healed.” This reminded me of what my daughter does in band, they tell them to shadow someone in marching band in order to learn the part. We have to be careful who and what shadow we are following and how it is touching our lives.

  35. Acts 5:1-11
    A DECEIFUL BEAUTY…

SAPPHIRA whose name mean ” BEAUTIFUL” or “SAPPHIRE” was the first woman singled out for prominence in Acts. But Sapphira failed God and in doing so caused her own death. Throughout the ages , her name has been linked, not with “BEAUTY” but with DELIBERATE DECEIT.

I wonder how many of us, do so many thing in church so that people see the BEAUTY of it… But in reality GOD see it as DELIBERATE DECEIT?

  36. Ananias = “whom Jehovah has graciously given”

Ananias and his wife were graciously given something by God. It was theirs. It was a gift. Anything that we get is a gift of God, but gracious gifts are generally more substantial than just a gift (thus it is labeled a gracious gift). The fact that these two had the gift is not thee point. We all have gifts and even gracious gifts. The point is that when they sold the gift they lied it in their hearts, to God, and to the man of God. All these things knew the truth. Heir heart knew. God obviously knew, He’s God. The man of God knew because God told him. They took this lie into the holy place where The Lord was and they were judged.

Today we are more relaxed with how we come to church (the holy place) and the way we act when we get there. I pray that we don’t bring lies or sin into the holy place like these two and think that we can hide it from God. There are consequences to our sins. Jesus help us all.

  37. 35 And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men.

Gamaliel was a master of the law, he knew the OT so well he knew like David they need to be careful how they treat a man of God. Like David he too was being encouraged to sentence a man to death. David’s men where encouraging him to kill Saul while he had the chance. They told him “This is the day the Lord spoke of when he saida to you, ‘I will give your enemy into your hands for you to deal with as you wish.” (1 Sa 24:4) Then David cut off a corner of Saul’s robe.David was conscience-stricken for having cut off a corner of Saul’s robe that he said “The Lord forbid that I should do such a thing to my master, the Lord’s anointed, or lay my hand on him; for he is the anointed of the Lord.” (1 Sa 24:6). He knew it was wrong to touch the Lord’s anointed no matter their wrong. We have to be careful who write off so quickly because judgment lies around the corner for the one who touches one of His.

1 Ch 16:22″ Do not touch my anointed ones; do my prophets no harm.”

  38. You can’t cheat or lie, and expect not to be chastened or punished. You can’t hide things from God, nor should you even try to cheat your anointed leaders.
