Acts 6

1 And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.

2 Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.

3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

5 And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:

6 Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

9 Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.

10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.

11 Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.

12 And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,

13 And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:

14 For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.

15 And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.

  1. Acts 6:4
But we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to ministry of the word.

We must teach others about the word of god so they can be saved as well More Bible Study’s and More Jesus. Amen

  2. 9 Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.

They were in this day and always will be deceivers in every city. When people do not understand the truth, they dream up things to deceive people into believing them. These taught that the apostles were changing the customs of Moses and teaching contrary to the law of Moses. Moses even taught Jesus would come (the messiah) and change the world! Which now is happening before their eyes and their hearts is to hard to hear what the spirit is saying to them.

  3. “So God’s message continued to spread. The number of believers greatly increased in Jerusalem, and many of the Jewish priests were converted, too.”

    ‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭6:7‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Throughout the book of Acts we see that as the gospel is spread more are saved. Let’s take the gospel out of our four walls and let’s see people saved.

  4. The beginning of verses 1-4 MSG says “During this time, as the disciples were increasing in numbers by leaps and bounds, hard feelings developed among the Greek-speaking believers—“Hellenists”—toward the Hebrew-speaking believers because their widows were being discriminated against in the daily food lines……”. This made me think of how whenever growth or moving forward wants to take place, something or someone always has to come up with issues of discord, problems or complaints. In this day and hour, we have no time to waste Pastor’s time and duty with such things. We as the body of Christ need to step up and work together to resolve and keep things in order; so that the word of the Lord can continue to go forth.

  5. The seed of strife starts with gossip

I wish that everyone would do as following and things will be cleared up quickly. If some one tells you Sis. so and so said this about you, take that person to Sis. so and so and ask her for the bible says 1 Timothy 5:19 Do not receive an accusation against an elder except on the basis of two or three witnesses. 20 Those who continue in sin, rebuke in the presence of all, so that the rest also will be fearful of sinning.
Deuteronomy 19:15 One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.

It is just easier to clear the things up that to believe others and begin to keep strife, bitterness, resentment, and anger towards a person without giving a chance to clear things up. When a person tells me so and so said this, I go to that person and find out if they did or not. Once my heart knows they did not that is the end of it. If that person keeps saying it, I will take them to the Pastor and let him do the correction; for I have enough dirt on my own eyes to clean before I correct my Sister or Brother. Lord give us discernment so we may see when some one is planting strife among us. Let us keep in unity, peace, and love. Convict our hearts when there is wrong doing and remind us that we are not perfect. Never allow us to think we are better than others and keep us out of judging our Brothers and Sisters Matthew 7:2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
Allow us to see them through your eyes and love them no matter what. Bless our church, leaders, teachers, and servers. Put your love for the lost in our heart so we may bring them to you with humility and not self righteousness. In Jesus Name I pray AMEN AND AMEN.

  6. 8. And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

    The Voice:
    8. Stephen continually overflowed with extraordinary grace and power, and he was able to perform a number of miraculous signs and wonders in public view. Voice

Continually overflowed…that means that even when he thought he was full, he didn’t stop receiving. If we keep asking for MORE of God, He is faithful to give!

  7. And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake. Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.

And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel. (‭Acts‬ ‭6‬:‭8, 10-11, 15‬ KJV)

What can be said against you when your full of faith and power?!!
When the Holy Ghost is present, there will always be some opposition. But no matter what comes against you(us), it is important to stand on His word.
Truth will always prevail the naysayers. And GOD will be glorified and exalted! Great revival is here, and our eyes our seeing what the Lord is doing at POFW.

Be merciful unto me, O God: for man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresseth me. Mine enemies would daily swallow me up: for they be many that fight against me, O thou most High. What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.

In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me. (‭Psalms‬ ‭56‬:‭1-3, 11‬ KJV)

  8. As any church grows there will be reasons in the natural to murmur or complain about something. But if the Holy Ghost is allowed to come into the situation all things can be worked out. We must be careful not to murmur too much or we might wander in the wilderness.

  9. Not a job for just anybody.

3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

Here at POFW, our prospective ministers serve visiting ministers. They meet them in the parking lot and escort them into the building, direct them to the rest rooms, Pastors office, refreshments, etc… They also carry the visiting minister’s things. I believe this a great display of respect for our visiting ministers. I found it interesting this morning young inexperienced ministers were not chosen for the widow ministry. Instead, the specifics were honest, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom. It would appear this ministry need is not suited for young inexperienced ministers.

Now I have ran across some “bittys” in my time but never felt that I was out-matched to talk with them and assist them in whatever needs they may have. These ladies must have been some doozies!!

    – not too spiritual this morning…

  10. MORE PEOPLE = MORE MURMURING

1 And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.

Since the fall of man in the garden of GOD, the original sin of pride has made us all born in sin and in need of a savior since our birth. The nature of sin manifests itself often in our attitude and actions which are fueled by our words. Murmuring and complaining are the natural carnal response to situations that don’t happen the way we feel that they should.

Here in Acts 6 the growth of the church produced a natural need to expand leadership and the disciples responded accordingly, by delegating tasks to faithful leaders.

However in the Exodus the people murmured and complained about their circumstances and GOD took it personal. The Psalmist recounts the historical event:

Psalms 106:24 Yea, they despised the pleasant land, they believed not his word:
25 But murmured in their tents, and hearkened not unto the voice of the Lord.
26 Therefore he lifted up his hand against them, to overthrow them in the wilderness:

They complained in the privacy of their own homes (tents) but GOD heard and judged them openly.

We must be very prayerful about what we complain about in our homes, on our jobs and even in our church.

    iPraise
    iPray

    iReap

  11. 10 None of them could stand against the wisdom and the Spirit with which Stephen spoke. NLT

You can’t stand against the truth! The Truth always wins!

  12. 4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

Every day we need to give ourselves to prayer and to the readig of the word of God, that is our spiritual nourishment for our bodies. We need to feed ourselves every day with it and not just as an after thought but as an iimportant part, THE most important part of our daily schedule. Cause when we don’t we are not making God first in our lives, and there’s no point in serving him if we don’t give him our everything.

  13. 7 So God’s message continued to spread. The number of believers greatly increased in Jerusalem, and many of the Jewish priests were converted, too. (NLT)

This reminds me of a message preached at NAYC and just screams submission. I mean, isn’t it great to see what happens when Gods people work together towards the same goal and vision. There’s really no stopping the body of Christ when we’re all in unity and understand our place – submitted to those in authority over us. Everyone has a calling upon their lives; God has chosen each one of us for a specific purpose, to serve in a specific manner. Praise God wherever and however He has called you to serve and do it not only out of obedience but with a submissive heart and attitude.

  14. 6 Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

It may have been rutine tasks or small projects and works but they were still under authority of the apostles. Submission goes a long way. We see here how they were used.

  15. 1 And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.

I pretty sure it grieves God when people are aware of a problem and complain about it instead of coming up with a solution. There are a many of ways this problem could have been solved. People are so quick to call everything an emergency. Yet the only Emergency I see is the amount of people I. Our region that are dieing daily without knowing Him. If we would fix our hearts on Him and fulfil His call there would be less murmmering and a whole lot more working.

A focused person has less time for murmmering!

  16. 1 And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.

When multiplication starts happening in the church, people on the outside get jealous and began murmuring and complaining because of that jealousy. We can’t afford to get sidetracked by the naysayers …… If Nehemiah would have listened to the naysayers he would have never accomplished rebuilding the wall. If we, like Peter take our eyes off of Jesus, we will begin to sink. Let’s keep our focus on Jesus Christ and the REVIVAL that He has for POFW. Forget what those around you are saying, keep the Kingdom at the forefront of your heart and mind and let’s multiply during our building process, so when we open the doors to that new facility it’s time to build again……

  17. 15 And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.

When we are in the presence of God. Our whole person changes. We get a glow about us because it is His light that shines through us.

  18. 10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.

These people couldn’t quite grasp what was going on and all what needed to be done for them to be saved. Just like in the times we live now they are hungry people all over we just need to find them and spread the word so they can be saved.

  19. Acts 6:8-10 & 15
8, And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.
9, Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.
10, And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.

15, And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.

Ecc. 8:1 says, “… a man’s wisdom maketh his face to shine, and the boldness of his face shall be changed.”
The reason why they were not able to resist the wisdom and spriti by which he spake, and the council saw the face of Stephen looking like an angel (it was shining) was because He was full of Faith, Power, Wisdom, and the Spirit of God. God was manifesting (to make clear or evident; show plainly, reveal) Himself through Stephen.

This made me think of this song:
    More of your Glory
    More of your Power
More of your Spirit in me
Speak to my heart Lord, change my life
    Manifest yourself in me.

We need MORE of Jesus Shining in us!

  20. 4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

Pray without ceasing 1 Thes 5:17
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matt 6:33
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Matt 5:6
Doing EVERYTHING as it be done unto The Lord. Praying always and doing everything for the kingdom of God. You are my light Jesus I will always trust in you because you are faithful and never ending. 🙂

  21. 8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

He was FULL of faith. He didn’t have just a little bit of faith but he was full of faith. In these last days we need to have GREAT faith, and have it abundantly and overflowing, so that no matter the situation, we trust that it’s all in God’s hands. For we serve an on time God!!

  22. Acts 6:3
Leaders must be Selected and Developed!!!!

The Apostles had specific qualifications in mind for the Leaders they wanted and chose men who were known for SPHERE OF INFLUENCE, people who could SERVE on a team, TRUSTED among the people, EMPOWERED for the task, COMPETENT and INTELLIGENT and RESPONSIBLE.

  23. iLove to eat More Word

12 And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,

As we noticed at the beginning of the chapter, there was great multiplication of believers into the kingdom. As the Kingdom expands, the enemy tries to stop the Church with great persecution by stirring up the folks. Let us try our hardest to live a life of peace and refuse to allow the enemy any foothold.

  24. Acts 6:1
    Seven Chosen to Serve
6 Now in these days when the disciples were increasing in number, a complaint by the Hellenists arose against the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution.

When there is increase there will always be people to be jealous, usually it’s those that are lazy and complacent where they are. We must not be part of the problem, but part of the solution.

  25. Acts 6:3 (KJV Strong’s)
3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

Honest report is an amazing attribute. The Greek word is the verbal adjective form of the word martyr, or witness that Jesus spoke of us as.

There is a difference between someone with a report, and an honest report. An honest report is of good character.

We can have a report and it not be honest. Jesus said we will be known by our fruit. Only time will tell if the report is true or if the individual is living a double life.

  26. “For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.” There were individuals then that heard only what they wanted and twisted what they heard too, just as there are today. The word of God (Jesus) is forever settled and one is very unwise to change it, as the word of the Judge (Jesus) is very clear on what awaits one that does. Dear God, let me hear clearly and speak only truth; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In God we trust”. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  27. 4) but we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

Just as these men give your life to God, and he will same it.

    Luke 9:23-24.

  28. “Stephen, a man full of God’s grace and power, performed amazing miracles and signs among the people. But one day some men from the Synagogue of Freed Slaves, as it was called, started to debate with him. They were Jews from Cyrene, Alexandria, Cilicia, and the province of Asia. None of them could stand against the wisdom and the Spirit with which Stephen spoke. So they persuaded some men to lie about Stephen, saying, “We heard him blaspheme Moses, and even God.” This roused the people, the elders, and the teachers of religious law. So they arrested Stephen and brought him before the high council. The lying witnesses said, “This man is always speaking against the holy Temple and against the law of Moses. We have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy the Temple and change the customs Moses handed down to us.” At this point everyone in the high council stared at Stephen, because his face became as bright as an angel’s.”
    ‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭6:8-15‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Even when Stephen did Gods work and was honest he had people coming against him and even made up lies about him to get everyone against him. Not everyone is going to see things the same way, no one is going to always agree with Gods plan and sometimes people will try to force things to go backwards instead of the direction God is telling us to go. However, as long as we are walking right with God things will work out and God will show the Himself which is the way, the truth and the light. Just like He was showing the light through Stephen and helping Stephen through all of those people’s questions and theories. God won’t leave us…..but we must not leave Him either.

  29. “But they could not stand up against the wisdom the Spirit gave him as he spoke.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭6:10‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Nothing can come against the word of God. There is more power in His word and His Spirit than we realize. With God all things are possible. Let’s study His word, let’s grow deeper in His Spirit.

  30. 10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.

    Double trouble!

I can imagine this being said about pastor. With a spirit of boldness, standing up for his faith. Wisdom comes from know and acknowledging God. This the kind of wisdom we should desire, the type that gets people’s attention.

Knowing Jesus and not knowing about Jesus. We are the light not know about the light. All we have to do is keep his word in our hearts and it will flow out of our mouths.

  31. 4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.
continually to prayer;full of faith and the holy ghost;miracles; this is some of the things I work on

  32. 8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people. This makes me think about what Solomon said in the 19;ch; of prov; verse 8 That gods wisdom is the most valuable access of life and truly Stephen was a walking testimony of that ;

  33. 6 Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

These verses are pouring over with fruit. The ministry that they did brought forth fruit because they sowed into praying and laying hands and they increased in number. They had expectation and it shows. They didn’t stop their either the company of priests continued by being obedient in the faith. The seed they had sown had fallen on good grounds and with great expectation flouished.

  34. 11 Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.

These who could not wrap their brains around the truth, nor resist Stephen’s knowledge of the scriptures, conspired with men who would lie about his teachings. It’s unfortunate that when we lack understanding of what a person says, we resort to slander and attempt to destroy them with our words. But if man lacks knowledge, let him ask of God. This is what these Jews should have determined to do-inquire of God. Help us today to take our issues to prayer instead of destroying someone with our stinking thinking.

  35. “And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people. Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen. And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭6:8-10‬ ‭KJV
When we have the Holy Ghost and his power, no one can resist the wisdom and the spirit by which we speak. We must seek God MORE so hat we are able to minister MORE and then God will strengthen us with His power so that other will not resisit the power and wisdom with which we speak.

  36. Every man has been given a measure of faith, but Stephen was filled and was doing great works to give God glory. We are to do good works to give him glory, and we must stay focused on the things of God. We should pray and ask for a increased measure of faith, with love. You can have faith that moves mountains, but without love it availeth nothing………………………….

    “Pray for LOVE”……………………………………………………………………………..
