Acts 8

1 And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles.

2 And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him.

3 As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison.

4 Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word.

5 Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them.

6 And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.

7 For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed.

8 And there was great joy in that city.

9 But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:

10 To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God.

11 And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries.

12 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

13 Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.

14 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:

15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:

16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)

17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.

18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,

19 Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.

20 But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.

21 Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.

22 Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.

23 For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity.

24 Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the Lord for me, that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me.

25 And they, when they had testified and preached the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans.

26 And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert.

27 And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship,

28 Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet.

29 Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.

30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?

31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.

32 The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:

33 In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.

34 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?

35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?

37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.

39 And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.

40 But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached in all the cities, till he came to Caesarea.

  1. 36. And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?

When God gives you a mission, don’t go part of the way and stop. If they had stopped when he joined the chariot, they never would have reached the water for baptism.

  2. Verse 3 NIV “But Saul began to destroy the church. Going from house to house, he dragged off both men and women and put them in prison.” This verse reminded me of what Pastor said the other day, about how we can either be part of the problem or part of the solution. Saul began to be part of the problem; but, we should be like Philip and be part of the solution and grab every opportunity to share Jesus with a friend as stated in verse 35 MSG “Philip grabbed his chance. Using this passage as his text, he preached Jesus to him.”

  3. Acts 8

v 1-3 Saul begins to persecute the church
v 4-25 Phillip preaches in Samaria
v 26-40 Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch

The persecution of the church lead to the ministering to the Samaritans. This is significant. The Samaritans were 1/2 Jew and considered “tainted.” Those who we not exiled by the Assyrians intermingled with others who were not Jews. After the exile, religious leaders petitioned those who had done such things to separate from there foreign wives. (Ezra 10:11) Now, in Acts 8, the Holy Spirit is given to the Samaritans, after 700 years of prejudiced from Jews.

  4. No Pain, No Sacrifice, goes unrewarded by God All Mighty!!!!!!!!!!!

Stephen his brother and friend has died. Stoned to death without a cause. I don’t know about you but I know me, that is fertile ground for anger at the enemy. You see I learned a long time ago that if we direct that anger to God, we are lost, for the devil rejoices and feeds it every day. Since then, I direct that anger at the true enemy the devil, the one that comes to kill, lie, and destroy. Once you do that then the Favor and Glory of Our Lord Jesus Christ will be reflected in your life for it does not matter what it may be happening to you; the lost of a loved one, trials and tribulations, sickness in your body, etc ONE THING IS ALWAYS FOR SURE GOD WILL BE GLORIFIED!!!! IT IS HIS PROMISED TO YOU. For it is how you carry this that will show others your faith. Back to the subject, Philip just lost a friend, a brother, a co-worker for the Kingdom of God. He probably had all the questions we have when we lose a loved one; the common Why God? He was good, why can’t you take the bad ones? The injustice of how it happened? He only spoke the truth? etc… We all go through them; but Philip had his eyes on the bigger picture. He knew that God will not let this sacrifice go unrewarded so what he did was went right back to work. The ground was perfectly soft, ready for the seed, and watered by Stephen’s blood. The Harvest was great, the miracles, and wonders were bigger than ever. Why? because something always must break for it to be released and grow. I have been feeling quite broken lately so what do I have left to do is easy, GO BACK TO WORK, PROCLAIM THE GOODNESS OF GOD EVERYWHERE I GO, AND WATCH GOD REWARD THE PAIN. IN JESUS NAME I PRAY AMEN AND AMEN.

  5. And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles.

Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word. (‭Acts‬ ‭8‬:‭1, 4‬ KJV)

Though the church was facing persecution they continued preaching the gospel no matter the separation of the body. They knew and understood their purpose in life. It doesn’t matter what we as the church face we need to make sure that we stay focused. Even when you feel as though you can no longer do so, STAND!

Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. (‭Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭11-12‬ KJV)

  6. 18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,

The power of God cannot be bought with money, this is not done by the person who lays hands, but by the power of the Holy Ghost. Simon thought like many people that this power could be given him. The word of God teaches us this kind only comes by prayer and fasting by faith in the Lord.

  7. 4 Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word.

God had brought calamity in order to spread the Gospel, since the people had not went out on their own. However, it is shown that no matter where we are we should be ready to preach the good news that Jesus is Lord.

  8. iLove to eat More Word

1 And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles.
4 Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word.

This should be a great example to the church of the 21st Century. When they were persecuted, they did not speak evil of those that were persecuting them, but they preached the Word of God everywhere they went. We should practice these principles in life, no matter what the situation. Always preach the Word of God.

  9. I NEED A MAN OF GOD

A man of GOD walking in the Spirit and obeying the voice of GOD is a great asset to the Kingdom of GOD. If Phillip had been carnal, burdened with life problems, distracted by work or other situations, he would have missed the voice of the LORD giving him specific instructions.

I am praying this week that GOD would give me MORE PASSION to reach the lost and help explain the plan of salvation to those that are hungry and seeking. I also pray that GOD would revive the spiritual passion of The POFW to have our main focus on SOULS.

I am HUNGRY to experience Apostolic revival in the region of Fort Worth that has not been matched since these book of Acts recordings.

  10. 3 As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison.

Yesterday, I heard Chester Wright say praying people are broken. He said anxiety, worry, carnality, and sin are all broken from their lives. As I began reading this chapter I realized that sometimes the spirit of Saul tries to come and “make havock of the church” Verse 3 says he is”…entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison.”

Yet the Word of God says “the gates of hell shall not prevail against the church.” Matthew 16:18 If we the church are going to be who He is calling us to be we must absolutely must pray. For prayer keeps us broken and when things try to throw us into prison we can break free. He also must stay focused in reaching our world with the gospel.

  11. 4 But the believers who were scattered preached the Good News about Jesus wherever they went.

No matter the circumstance, no matter where you are, it’s always a good time to spread the word and proclaim the Good News about Jesus!

  12. 18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,

19 Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.

The bible does not say how Simon became the sorcerer he was but seeing his response to the Holy Ghost you could say he probably bought his way up to that title.

Pro 20:11 Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.

  13. 29 – 31 (NLT) The Holy Spirit said to Philip, “Go over and walk along beside the carriage.” Philip ran over and heard the man reading from the prophet Isaiah. Philip asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?” The man replied, “How can I, unless someone instructs me?” And he urged Philip to come up into the carriage and sit with him.

When the Spirit moved upon Philip, the word says he RAN and was immediately obedient. That is the same spirit we must posses today to be an ACTS Church. We don’t have time debating and arguing with God, listen and obey. Fort Worth is waiting on us!

  14. 39 When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing.

When Gods power is in you nothing can stop your praise. Don’t let anything take away you blessing, praise God always with your whole heart! 🙂

  15. Acts 8:35
35, Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

If we never “Open our mouth,” we cannot share the gospel of Jesus Christ with others. If we don’t share the gospel with others, then the gospel is hid to them who are lost. (2 Cor. 4:3, “But if the gospel be hid, it is hid to them who are lost.”)
So “Open Your Mouth” and share the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with someone today.

  16. 3 As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison.

    It’s time to raze hell.

Raze means to destroy completely. When the enemy try’s to distort you it’s time to stand. Then turn and go after your spoil. The church must come together and raze together.

  17. 9 A man named Simon had been a sorcerer there for many years, amazing the people of Samaria and claiming to be someone great. 10 Everyone, from the least to the greatest, often spoke of him as “the Great One—the Power of God.” 11 They listened closely to him because for a long time he had astounded them with his magic.

It boggles my mind when people fall for fortune tellers, magicians, astrologers, etc. These sorcerers they depend and prey on the weak minded who do not have God in their lives. The weak see them as having equal powers that God has. They don’t realize its Satan and his bag of tricks that is deceiving them.

It is up to us Christians, men & women of God to tell them the truth!

  18. Act 8:3 — Act 8:4
But Saul was ravaging the church, and entering house after house, he dragged off men and women and committed them to prison.Philip Proclaims Christ in Samaria
Now those who were scattered went about preaching the word.

When there is tough times and the devil wants to decide and destroy what God is in the church, me must not be fearful or stop doing what the Lord wants. We must continue to preach His Word because He has already prevailed

  19. 6 And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which THE PENTECOSTALS OF FORT WORTH spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.

7 For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed.

8 And there was great joy in FORT WROTH AND SURROUNDING COUNTIES.

    In Jesus name! !!

  20. 22 Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.

23 For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity.

24 Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the Lord for me, that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me.

Sometimes when a Man of God speaks to someone to repent from something they are doing or a lifestyle they are living, a natural fleshly reaction can be to be offended by it and ignore it, but instead we should let our minds open up and consider it and listen to the authority figures God has placed over us in our lives and what they are saying to us.

And when we listen to what God is speaking to them for us, then we need to ask for forgiveness and seek help, so we can to do better and have more pure life as we try to walk the footsteps of Jesus that he has for us.

  21. Acts 8:22-24 (AMP)
22 So repent of this depravity and wickedness of yours and pray to the Lord that, if possible, thiscontriving thought and purpose of your heart may be removed and disregarded and forgiven you.
23 For I see that you are in the gall of bitterness and ina bond forged by iniquity [to fetter souls].
24 And Simon answered, Pray for me [beseech the Lord, both of you], that nothing of what you have said may befall me!

The bondage of iniquity literally means that just as the ligaments in the body keep parts together so we become joined to iniquity.

We cannot be part of the body of Christ and the body of iniquity. The head of the body of Christ is Jesus. The head of the body of iniquity is satan.

He was lucifer the angel of light until iniquity was found in him. When we choose to run our own lives, and have control rather than surrender and submit to the Lord and his purposes we face the peril of the same possible fate as lucifer.

Submit to Christ and his will and allow him to be the one in charge of your life and you won’t have to face the enemy but rather be over the enemy.

  22. “When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money and said, “Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.””
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭8:18-19‬ ‭NIV‬‬

You will get no where fast with a mindset like this. God is not something you can simply buy. In fact it’s offensive to His very name for anyone to think they can buy their way to knowing the ways of God with this boastful attitude. To know God and His spirit it doesn’t take earthly treasures but an full repentive attitude and mindset. God will use the humble not the boastful.

  23. “And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.” They were united, they were together, they were supportive and in agreement. Many times throughout the word of God (Jesus) it talks about what can, and has come from unity. Whereas the opposite of unity with God, his word, or the true man of God is division. One need not look far to see that there has never, and will never be anything good come from division. Dear God, let me be counted with those seeking unity in your Kingdom; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In God we trust”. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  24. 35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

Sometimes we hold back from reaching people with the gospel because we don’t know what to start saying what to preach, how to witness and evangelize; in here it is put very simple for us. Preach Jesus. Tell how Jesus came in flesh and gave himself as ransom. How he wants to heal the broken and wonded…tell them about Jesus.

  25. “When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away. The eunuch never saw him again but went on his way rejoicing.”
    ‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭8:39‬ ‭NLT

Just like the eunuch we must also be he didn’t wait on Philip to tell him what to do next…the eunuch just started praising and giving thanks. Sometimes we can’t ask people what to do next we have to trust in God and praise Him until He tells us which way to go or be sensitive to the one that God brings in our path such as Philip was brought into the eunuchs path. People can’t always give you answers.

  26. 4 Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word.

One important thing to not forget when this is re enacted upon today’s church and persecution comes to here in the U.S. No matter where we have to go, to not cease preaching the word where ever we go.

We are living in an age where we are being censored. Our religious freedoms are being stripped from us daily in the media, at our schools, at universities, and the list goes on.

We have to be ready to stand for the truth with boldness. Having our sight in the mark, on our reward, seeing Jesus face to face. Let us keep the word in our hearts, because soon, that may be the only place we will have access to it.

  27. 6 And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.
7 For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed.
8 And there was great joy in that city.

    ONE ACCORD
    HEALED
    JOY
I’ve learned that being in one accord with your Pastor is the best thing you can do because you recieve the same annointing that is flowing from Him. If you step out of the order that God has placed you are not going to be blessed like the ones being under the same accord as Pastor. Pastor is the man that God has put in my life so I may be in the right path. We have the annointing to see miracles right before our eyes which will bring great JOY and greater FAITH 🙂 HALLELUJAH for the great and mighty God that I serve 🙂 “Let everything that has breathe, praise The Lord, Praise The Lord”

  28. 15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:

16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)

17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.

18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,

19 Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.

20 But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.
I thank God that what I have cant be purchased or earned talking about the Holy Ghost thank you jesus!!!!

  29. Peter states that Simon the sorcerer is in the gall of bitterness and bonds of iniquity. Most of us have felt a little bitterness at some point. The Greek translation is extreme wickedness. The translation for gall is poison. Iniquity is of course unrighteousness. When we carry about in selfish ways we weave a poisonous web of wickedness which traps us in our ways of unrighteousness. We must die to our selfish ways so God and the power of the holy ghost can have his way.

  30. 6 And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.

7 For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed.

8 And there was great joy in that city.

The spirit of UNITY brings many things to the Church Body … deliverance, healings, miracles, signs, wonders and great joy.

The joy of the Lord is our strength, therefore we are strengthened inward and outward when we are in UNITY with the Church and Jesus Christ.

  31. Sometimes the condition of our heart and expectation can change the out come of our situations. The people listen intently and were eager to hear the Good News AND see the miraculous. And because of that there was great joy.
“Crowds listened intently to Philip because they were eager to hear his message and see the miraculous signs he did. Many evil spirits were cast out, screaming as they left their victims. And many who had been paralyzed or lame were healed. So there was great joy in that city.”

    ‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭8:6-8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

  32. “Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭8:17‬ ‭KJV
For all those people who don’t like to be touched, the bible says they received after they had hands laid on them. It was a touch. It’s amazing that the touch of God happens as the touch of man occurs. This shows how we as men are used as the hands of God.

  33. You see how important it is for home bible studies or discipleship class.

31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.
    —————————————————————-
    Believe with all thy heart………..

37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

“Believe”………….also the rest of the story too.

  34. “And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”(Acts‬ ‭8:37‬ ‭KJV)

Philip was directed by Jesus to go south to a desert, for a angel of the lord said let us not be satisfied till we get faith, as the Ethiopians did. Sometimes God opens doors of opportunity to his children to minister in very unlikely places,we should study to do good things to thoses we come into company with by traveling. We should never be so shy of all strangers as some affect to be. It is called wisdom for men of business to redeem time for holy duties to fill up every minute with something which will turn a good account !!! In Jesus Name Amen!!!
