Acts 11

1 And the apostles and brethren that were in Judaea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.

2 And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him,

3 Saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them.

4 But Peter rehearsed the matter from the beginning, and expounded it by order unto them, saying,

5 I was in the city of Joppa praying: and in a trance I saw a vision, A certain vessel descend, as it had been a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came even to me:

6 Upon the which when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.

7 And I heard a voice saying unto me, Arise, Peter; slay and eat.

8 But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth.

9 But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

10 And this was done three times: and all were drawn up again into heaven.

11 And, behold, immediately there were three men already come unto the house where I was, sent from Caesarea unto me.

12 And the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting. Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered into the man’s house:

13 And he shewed us how he had seen an angel in his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter;

14 Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.

15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.

16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.

17 Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?

18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

19 Now they which were scattered abroad upon the persecution that arose about Stephen travelled as far as Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but unto the Jews only.

20 And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus.

21 And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.

22 Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch.

23 Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord.

24 For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord.

25 Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul:

26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

27 And in these days came prophets from Jerusalem unto Antioch.

28 And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit that there should be great dearth throughout all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius Caesar.

29 Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judaea:

30 Which also they did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.

  1. 21 And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.

When aligned in the will of God for your life, people will see the hand of God bless you and protect you. Those on your job or at school they will believe . And by you lifting Jesus up daily by a Godly lifestyle, He said he would draw all men.. People are starving for a fresh new start, a do over button if ya will. Give them Jesus He’s the best reset ,reboot button ever.
Watching you , an epistle read of all men… Let them see Jesus. You have what people are starving for don’t hid it, Let your light shine.

  2. 18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

Repentance unto life…letting the old me die so the new me can live.

The Gentiles also received the Holy Ghost just like the Jews. Jesus shows no respect of persons by revealing to Peter that this Holy Ghost is now available to the Gentiles. Peter was accused by the apostles and brethren, but he knew what God had shown him. We should always understand that we have to be held accountable for our actions and the message we preach. Peter was prepared to face these brethren with what God had shown him, we should stand with faith on what God hath gave us. Holy Ghost and power in Jesus name is real!

  4. NEVER GIVE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

8 But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth.
9 But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

How many time have I heard “he or she is beyond help” in my mind all I can think is and who are you to decide that??? Are we so self righteous that we forget that only God has the right to decide if a man/woman is worth saving? As Apostolic Pentecostals it is our mission never to give up, if by one or another reason we must distance ourselves we have PRAYER left. NEVER, EVER, STOP PRAYING. James 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
If they have harmed you, NEVER, EVER, WISH THEM HARM. Proverbs 24:17 Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth: 18 Lest the Lord see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.
If by our attitudes, actions, or Lord forbid tongue we place a stumbling block so they will fail on purpose, we will ALWAYS be responsible for that soul.
John 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
It does not say love your best friends only, or love those that love you, or love those that follow Christ, it says LOVE ONE ANOTHER, THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY ALL EQUALLY. The Love of our Christ is freely given NOT EARNED. He died for all of us equally. So let’s go out there and shine with His Love, Show others the way to Salvation, and His Joy will always be our Strength. In Jesus Name AMEN & AMEN.

  5. 16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.

Baptized in water and Spirit….Hallelujah!!!! So grateful to be part of a church where all Pastor talks about is baptism of the HG and of water!!!! I have seen so many apostolic pastors not love the doctrine and just go with the flow of just going to church just to feel good. I was part of a
church that didn’t preach these 2 things which is so sad because without these 2 things we shall not enter the kingdom of God. I just praise God because you don’t know like I know where he’s got me out of. I finally have a true relationship with Jesus and I hunger for MORE!!! Grateful to have life and peace and not be dead anymore….Jesus has turned my life upside down and I can truly say I have been set free from the enemies bondage. Praise God because He is so good and his love endure forever!!! Praise God for the truth…baptism of HG AND WATER!!!!! Praise God for the true man of God he’s placed in my life 🙂

  6. 18 When the others heard this, they stopped objecting and began praising God. They said, “We can see that God has also given the Gentiles the privilege of repenting of their sins and receiving eternal life.” (NLT)

Stop objecting to the power and will of God; He desires for all to have the privilege and opportunity of salvation. Just look around and see the hunger of this world, there are so many who don’t even know what they’re looking for, they just want something true and something they can be passionate about. We know though that ultimately the only thing that will satisfy and feed their hunger is Jesus Christ, so listen to the voice of God as He would lead you to those who hunger.

  7. Biased Perceptions

9 But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

Do we have preconceived notions on who God is calling and what they should look like? Do we have thoughts such as: “That man is homeless and drunk/stoned. I am not going to waste my time with him. I will find someone who more fits the stereotypical Christian.” I am ashamed to say but I have had these thoughts. I thank the Lord for delivering me from these idiotic thoughts.

Jesus, I am hungry. Direct my steps to the person I should meet today and share your word with.

  8. MORE OFFERINGS

29 Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judaea:

I am thankful to be included in the Kingdom of GOD where the people of GOD respond to the needs of mankind. Each disciple gave of their ability. This practical principal is utilized in todays church.

Our offerings go to more than the preacher, the staff or paying church debt. We bless the community with milk and bread, backpacks and school supplies for the students, western day community event, joyful toy event at Christmas. Each of these events are directed to send relief to those in need.

As well we have sent offerings to Apostolic Conference to bless Pastors of new churches in America, we have sent special offerings to evangelists that are struggling.

May we continue to allow GOD to speak to us in regards to giving to the Kingdom of GOD.

  9. iLove to eat More Word

Acts 11:2 KJV And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him,

When we think of the book of Acts Church, we think of all the Power and all the Anointing. We think of God raising folks from the dead through his Apostles and the sick receiving their healing. We see great conversions and mighty displays of God’s power. All these things are true, but there were also a lot of arguments and a lot of contentions. In Acts 11:2, we see an example of this and we also see the way that Peter dispelled it. I pray that we would learn to do the same as the first church did when there was disagreement, simply talk about it…that’s classic.

  10. 14 Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.

15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.

When we speak, God has given us the power to speak his gospel with boldness and in truth. So when we tell people about the gospel, the Holy Spirit can work in people and touch their hearts to bring them to the truth and to live inside of them, so that they may be filled.

  11. 12 And the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting. Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered into the man’s house:

Peter was accountable. He was accountable to the brethren in Jerusalem but also to the men that travelled with him. He had to live honestly. He didn’t have the ability to lie and makeup a story about what happened, he had witnesses he was accountable to. Peter was walking with God and his life and choices proved it.

  12. the living God in us shows thru our handling of trials and daily lifestyle, this will draw others to us and allow us to touch lives

  13. 11 And, behold, immediately there were three men already come unto the house where I was, sent from Caesarea unto me.

12 And the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting. Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered into the man’s house:

Peter’s obedience took him out of his comfort zone to a completely different race of people.

Where is the obedience of the Lord going to take us? We might be the one responsible for the start of a daughter work to the Asian people? Africans? Who knows what the Lord has planned — He does and He is looking for individuals who will be bold and obedient to take the first step out of their comfort zone into the walk of the Spirit.

  14. Acts 11:15
As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them just as on us at the beginning.

When we are in tune with the Spirit all we have to do is open our mouth and Let the Lord take care of the rest. We will be amazed at the the gear works and miracles God can do in a persons life, but it takes boldness, faith, obedience, and action. To be a book of Acts Church we must speak the Word!

  15. 5. I was in the city of Joppa praying: and in a trance I saw a vision, a certain vessel descend, as it had been a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came even to me.

A certain vessel (particular implement, not just any/only one way) descended (was lowered, made available) in a great sheet(also called a sail, sails used to manipulate vessels) let down by four corners. The Greek translation for corner is arche, meaning the beginning of something. Peter was given a vision of the implement he would be called to use to carry the message to people thought unclean. This was the beginning of the salvation for the Gentiles.

  16. Commentators may speculate about the motivation behind these charges perhaps fear of persecution from unbelieving Jews or Jewish-Roman tensions under Caligula But what is clear is that prejudice led to a nearsighted view of the situation. How sad it is when manmade rules designed to protect our holiness and bring us close to God prevent us from seeing and rejoicing when God grants salvation to those who had not known his grace.

  17. And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch. (‭Acts‬ ‭11‬:‭26‬ KJV)

The first Christians spoke in tongues and were baptized in Jesus name. Still to this day Christians that lable them selfs as Christians should also speak in tongues and be baptized under his name.

When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life. (‭Acts‬ ‭11‬:‭18‬ KJV)

Thankful for a God that has shown mercy to me and the hello Gentiles. Can you imagine if he decided not to give us salvation!?

  18. 10 And this was done three times: and all were drawn up again into heaven.

Sometimes we have a hard head. And when Gid is trying to speak to us. We don’t hear him. This is why we must learn to be more sensitive to him.

  19. 11:1-2 Soon the news reached the apostles and other believers in Judea that the Gentiles had received the word of God. But when Peter arrived back in Jerusalem, the Jewish believers criticized him. (NLT)

    News Travels Fast!

What news are you broadcasting? Is it glorifying Jesus?

Our actions speak louder than words. If we say we CARE about Fort Worth, lets ACT on that and REACH them. Our actions must match our words.

  20. 4 But Peter rehearsed the matter from the beginning, and expounded it by order unto them, saying,

Perhaps Peter might have been the greatest at the time, for unto him were the Keys given to build God’s church, however he was still prepared to give an account for his actions. We read further along how he took 6 witnesses with him. Great leadership is accountable to his peers. That is what u saw in this verses

  21. 12 And the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting. Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered into the man’s house:

If Peter had doubted, he could have missed this opportunity to reach Cornelius and his whole household with the word of the Lord for their salvation. But the door for the Gentile’s salvation was opened because he heard from the Lord and even though it was contrary to his beliefs, he acted upon his vision without doubting. As Pastor pointed out, he had to first hear the Lord. Then if he had gone to discuss it with his brethren rather than obey God, the revival that followed could have been missed.

  22. Jesus says to call on Him and draw all nations to Him. It is our duty as His children to bring lost souls to Him. Through our words we can do that! We must have Jesus in our words.

  23. 7 And I heard a voice saying unto me, Arise, Peter; slay and eat.

8 But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth.

9 But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

Thank God he has cleanse does and we are no longer common, but instead a peculiar people in Christ Jesus

  24. 17 And since God gave these Gentiles the same gift he gave us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to stand in God’s way?”

So many want to follow their own direction and be in control of their lives, that they get in God’s way. They dont want no one telling them anything, giving advice or any kind of discipline. I have found myself in this position asking, “who am I to stand in God’s will.” I may try to stop or control God’s will, but will fail, and God will get his way. So let us humble ourselves and put pride to the side, and accept God’s will.

  25. Acts 11:19-21
19, Meanwhile, the believers who had been scattered during the persecution after Stephens’s death travelled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch of Syria. They preached the word of God, but only to the Jews.
20,However, some of the believers who went to Antioch from Cyprus and Cyrene began preaching to the Gentiles about the Lord Jesus.
21, The power of the Lord was with them, and a large number of these Gentiles believed and turned to the Lord.

We as Christians should never tell only certain people about the Lord. Jesus is no respector of persons. He died for everyone. Everyone (nationality, color, size, intelligence, etc) needs to here about Jesus. So let’s go and preach Jesus to them.

  26. 14 Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.

How they must have felled glorifying god !!!!!

  27. 16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.
Thank God for the gift of baptism! John’s baptism was unto repentance but our baptism today is for remission of sins and the infilling of the holy ghost! Thank God for the power of his spirit! Its A life changing and regenerative experience a gift That’s for everyone!

  28. 18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

Repent and turn away and live the new life.

  29. Even Jesus was criticized but he didn’t come for those who were saved he came for those who needed healing, were lost and needed a friend. Let have more compassion for everyone around us.
“But when Peter arrived back in Jerusalem, the Jewish believers criticized him. “You entered the home of Gentiles and even ate with them!” they said.”

    ‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭11:2-3‬ ‭NLT‬‬

  30. “Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.” Because of his prayers and faith, many were saved. One’s prayers and faith can affect others that may never hear otherwise, which is all the more why one must do one’s part. Dear God, help me too focus more on you, and less on self; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In God we trust”. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  31. 2 And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him,

3 Saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them.

Don’t religious people make you laugh!? I don’t blame them, even Peter questioned God three times. I was like that, so consumed by judgement, quick to condemn but never felt in my heart to pray for them. Ready the criticize not acknowledgeing my our faults.

This spirit is not easily shake, I know many people even in my own family that struggle with customs and traditions they were taught in there churches. Even though some may not be bad, they cling to them when they are contested even by the word of God. That’s when it becomes dangerous, because we try and put God in a box.

  32. ““But the voice from heaven spoke again: ‘Do not call something unclean if God has made it clean.’

And since God gave these Gentiles the same gift he gave us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to stand in God’s way?” When the others heard this, they stopped objecting and began praising God. They said, “We can see that God has also given the Gentiles the privilege of repenting of their sins and receiving eternal life.””
    ‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭11:9, 17-18‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The Gentiles didn’t just give a golf hand clap they praised HIM for GOD was giving them a way to receive eternal life with HIM. We including me need to give more glory to GOD for all that HE has done. We need that fire that pumped excitement in us when we come to church, when we praise HIM. Just like in the upper room. Let’s not just try to get crazy on Pentecost Sunday but let that rushing mighty wind sweep through each service lets have each service just like the day of Pentecost!!!!

  33. More Purpose

23 Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord.

29 Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judaea:

The disciples revealed a life of purpose, living with determination of how they would live out the will of God. Being haphazard in our efforts and never planning will rob us of opportunities to see God move and in our midst. Coming with Spirit-led purpose helps to not only reveal God’s desires but drives us to be where He is working and moving and be ready to be used of Him.

    Ephesians 1:8-10
    8 Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;

9 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:

10 That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:

  34. I totally did this yesterday but it didn’t post.

    Stop objecting and start praising

    Acts 11:18 (NLT)
18 When the others heard this, they stopped objecting and began praising God. They said, “We can see that God has also given the Gentiles the privilege of repenting of their sins and receiving eternal life.”

The KJV says they held their peace. This phrase is (Olive Tree Enhanced Strong’s Dictionary) g2270. ἡσυχάζω hēsychazō; from the same as 2272; to keep still (intransitively), i.e. refrain from labor, meddlesomeness or speech: — cease, hold peace, be quiet, rest.
    AV (5) – hold (one’s) peace 2, rest 1, cease 1, be quiet 1;
to keep quietto rest, cease from labour to lead a quiet life, said of those who are not running hither and thither, but stay at home and mind their business to be silent, i.e. to say nothing, hold one’s peace.

Instead they glorified God g1392. δοξάζω doxazō; from 1391; to render (or esteem) glorious (in a wide application): — (make) glorify(-ious), full of (have) glory, honor, magnify.
    AV (62) – glorify 54, honour 3, have glory 2, magnify 1, make glorious 1, full of glory 1;
to think, suppose, be of opinion to praise, extol, magnify, celebrate to honour, do honour to, hold in honour to make glorious, adorn with lustre, clothe with splendour to impart glory to something, render it excellent to make renowned, render illustrious to cause the dignity and worth of some person or thing to become manifest and acknowledged

There are two diametrically opposed points of view. One is a position of defense. They wanted to hold to their long held religiously based beliefs of prejudice against the gentile people.

    However versus like
    Isaiah 49:6
(KJV Strong’s) 6 And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant
to raise up the tribes of Jacob,
and to restore the preserved of Israel:
I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles,
that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.

    Psalm 86:9
(KJV Strong’s) 9 All nations whom thou hast made shall come
    and worship before thee, O Lord;
    and shall glorify thy name.

    Deuteronomy 10:19
(KJV Strong’s) 19 Love ye therefore the stranger: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.

All point to the way God really felt about the Gentiles. It was always in his plan to include them, and bring salvation to them but they wanted to be their golden cow racism. Though they felt they were justified because the law had not included them yet they were still fighting against the plan of God.

How could people so fixed on serving the Lord be so against his will?
They didn’t know the word of God. If they truly knew the scriptures they would have insight into the plan of God and welcomed the day of the fulfillment of God’s plan.

It pays to eat this book.

  35. Peter is about to have his whole worldview rocked to its foundations. In his vision he sees many animals that are on the “unclean” and “be sure to avoid” list. Yet the Lord says to him, “Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.” (vs 13). Moments later he is invinted to go to the home of a Gentile. Not only is he expected to enter the home and share fellowship with an “unclean” person, he is called to preach the gospel and offer to this man the table fellowship of the kingdom of God. Peter is learning the same lesson that applies to us today: “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.” (vs 15).

  36. Even the Great Peter, had been taught a lesson, and the Lord had broken once again the religious traditions. To show, he is in charge, and what he cleanses, he cleanses. So………..EAT, thank God I love BACON!

    “Peace be still”……………………………………………………..

  37. “But Peter rehearsed the matter from the beginning, and expounded it by order unto them, saying,”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭11:4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Sometimes we have to explain thing to people we think they should already understand. Peter probably thought that these people should undertstand and trust that he wouldn’t just run out and recklessly do what he wants, but he still meticulously explained his situation so that there was understanding and encouragement to others. When the people understood hey glorified the Lord and Jesus did mighty works with and through this group of understanding believers.
