Acts 12

1 Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church.

2 And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.

3 And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.)

4 And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.

5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

6 And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.

7 And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.

8 And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.

9 And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision.

10 When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him.

11 And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.

12 And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying.

13 And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda.

14 And when she knew Peter’s voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood before the gate.

15 And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel.

16 But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished.

17 But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go shew these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went into another place.

18 Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers, what was become of Peter.

19 And when Herod had sought for him, and found him not, he examined the keepers, and commanded that they should be put to death. And he went down from Judaea to Caesarea, and there abode.

20 And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: but they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king’s chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was nourished by the king’s country.

21 And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them.

22 And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.

23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

24 But the word of God grew and multiplied.

25 And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled their ministry, and took with them John, whose surname was Mark.

  1. Acts 12:22
And the people gave a shout saying it is the voice of of god and not a man.

We must give a shout to the lord for he is worthy of the glory and we give thanks to him More Jesus. Amen

  2. 5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

6 And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.

After all that, even Peter didn’t realize his deliverance until afterwards. When he had time to think about. Hind sight is 20/20 thank you Jesus for all the times you deliver us .

  3. But the word of God grew and multiplied. (‭Acts‬ ‭12‬:‭24‬ KJV)

Throughout the trials that the church faces, the gospel doesn’t stop there. Thankful for the body of Christ that knows we are VICTORIOUS, nothing can stop us, no limits!!!!!! And I’m rejoicing this morning, because I know that the church is moving forward!!!!!

Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place. (‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭2‬:‭14‬ KJV)

8 And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.

WOW, I’ve never seen this before but apparently according to this scripture it is the will of God to be properly dressed in public…even if you’re running for your life. 🙂

Let us follow Jesus this day and clothe ourselves in humility and be servants of the most High God.

  5. 5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

Prayer was made without ceasing! Prayer can change things, too many of us prefer to worry instead of pray. The church made prayer a focus for deliverance! When the church of today begins to pray with fervor and faith we will see more of God in our midst. Pray. Pray. Pray

  6. 24. But the word of God grew and multiplied.

No matter what the world does (or doesn’t do), God’s Word is established, it’s promises are true, and man cannot stop it.

    Isaiah 55:11 KJV
So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

  7. act.12.9.nkjv So he went out and followed him, and did not know that what was done by the angel was real, but thought he was seeing a vision.

Sometime God does things that are to good to believe.

  8. 7 And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.

Throughout of lives we will have troubles to encounter but if we have faith in God then he can deliver us. Peter had no second thoughts if he would be delivered or not because he knew who his God was. Let us go about our day and remember that Jesus will help us if we have faith in him.

  9. Acts 12:5-7
5, Peter therefore was kept in prison; but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.
6, And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.
7, And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.

When you feel like you are in a dire (dreadful, terrible, horrible) situation, Thank the Lord for intercessory prayer warriors and for His ministering angels (Heb. 1:14). Because, when you have people praying for you and God’s angels ministering for you, no soldiers, no chains, no guards, and no door can keep you imprisoned in your situation.

    Thank You JESUS!

  10. 12 And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying.

Undoubtedly the saints were praying for Peter’s safety and possible release. Yet they doubted it when it happened. We should pray believing and not be surprised when God answers.

  11. TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL

We witnessed the relationship that Peter had with the Supernatural power of GOD in chapter 10, as the angel of the LORD spoke to him with specific instructions and the gospel was preached to the Gentiles. Now we witness the angel of the LORD delivering Peter from death row. Peter was sleeping and locked up when he was awakened by the supernatural. I pray that we are sensitive to the supernatural and are spiritually awakened in these last days to be delivered by the hand of GOD.

  12. 5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

This is the kind of prayer Pastor has been urging us to do. Our prayers can set people free from whatever kind of bondage they are in, in Jesus Name!

  13. Knock and it shall be opened… unless a damsel is on the other side!

13-14 And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda. And when she knew Peter’s voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood before the gate.

Ever had someone at your home that pointed out to you things that need doing? You missed a spot while painting, you should have placed the furniture thusly, I believe a hunter green would have been a better choice of color. I have had guests of this nature. I have even had a guest similar in action to Rhoda the damsel; someone is at the door knocking, you won’t believe who it is!! Did you let them in? No, I wanted you to see for yourself!

What is the spiritual significance of this series of actions? Be prepared for the answer to the pray you are praying. Likely, this damsel was part of the prayer force praying for Paul. So, when the answer stood at the door knocking, she chose not to answer the call. How many unanswered prayers have we left standing at the door knocking due to our own unbelief that the prayer is answered?

  14. 5 But while Peter was in prison, the church prayed very earnestly for him.(NLT)

BUT, Praise God for the BUT.
Peter was in prison, BUT the church prayed.
I was lost, BUT God saved me!

24 But the word of God grew and multiplied. (KJV)
Herod tried, BUT God’s love still spread across the land!
    Thank God for BUT

  15. A FAITHFUL PRAYER

4 And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternionas of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.

    1 Thessalonians 5:16 Rejoice evermore.
    17 Pray without ceasing.
18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

This is the perfect recipe for success. God gives us specific instruction how to reach our goals, how to break yokes, and chains. It is easy to give thanks and Glorify God in the good times; but verse 18 specifically says IN EVERY THING!!!! No matter what the situation may be good, or bad, we must be thankful for everything is in God’s will for us. At the end ONLY GOD WILL BE GLORIFIED. The results of glorifying yourself and not GOD is found in Act 12:23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.
All instruction for life are found in the bible, All instructions for success are found in the bible, All instructions for finances are found in the bible, EVERYTHING WE NEED IN LIFE AND FOR HAVING ETERNAL LIFE IS FOUND IN THE BIBLE. Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
Thank you Jesus for your instructions are always cleared and we know you desire is to bless us. For Matthew 7:11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? AMEN

  16. Tells us of Antioch church concern for their Jewish brothers in Jerusalem. Luke tells gentiles concern for Jew’s to remind us that the Christian movement truly was one.

  17. 1 Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church.
2 And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.
3 And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread)

All too often, mankind, pushes their leaders (even our men of God) into a corner, and great leaders give when thy shouldn’t, because of the people following them. Jesus allows this so that man MIGHT repent. This is even present in the Old Testament, when the people wanted a king, and so God had Samuel anoint Saul king.

  18. 11 Then Peter came to himself and said, “Now I know without a doubt that the Lord sent his angel and rescued me from Herod’s clutches and from everything the Jewish people were anticipating.” (NIV)

When Jesus does the Supernatural your gonna be able to see it, and yet others are going to see it also. Peter knew it was God who sent the angel and not man-kind. Many people when they see a miracle they try to praise a human yet they don’t realize the that the only one that can do the Supernatural is Jesus. Jesus is a true and faithful God that is NOT dead. Tell others what God has done in your own lives just like Peter 🙂 MORE WITNESSING!!!
17 But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go shew these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went into another place.
GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME!!! Hallelujah!!!

  19. 22 And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.
23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.
24 But the word of God grew and multiplied.

The king of rock n roll. Is dead. The king of pop. Is dead. The king of blues is dead. The king of country. Is dead.

Why do we idolize so many music artist? No just in music but Hollywood “stars?” We are not of this world. We are to be separate. There is only one true God. His name is Jesus.

  20. Act 12:6 — Act 12:7
    Peter Is Rescued
Now when Herod was about to bring him out, on that very night, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries before the door were guarding the prison.
And behold, an angel of the Lord stood next to him, and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him, saying, “Get up quickly.” And the chains fell off his hands.

When the enemy thinks that He has a child of God where he wants them, and has made it impossible for us to get out. The devil is a fool, He fails to realize how awesome and powerful our God is. All the devil has done is, given God another opportunity for God to be glorified! When everyone says it’s impossible and there is no way, God makes a way!! Thank you JESUS! MORE JESUS!!!!

  21. 22 And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.

23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

24 But the word of God grew and multiplied.

God will always get the glory even if we try to take it for ourselves. After all, he is the only one who deserves it.

  22. 4 And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.
The size of the enemy’s army doesn’t matter because Jesus fights for us. Deuteronomy 20:1 When you go to war against your enemies and see horses and chariots and an army greater than yours, do not be afraid of them, because the LORD your God, who brought you up out of Egypt, will be with you.

  23. 5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

When the church prays for someone of need we to should pray as a church without ceasing unto God for them that there chains would fall off and a light would shine in there prison!!!!

  24. 5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

6 And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.

Many times we loose our sleep over problems or worry and stress hit us till we become sick. This is a great scripture that should encourage us all to trust in The Lord at all times. To not let stress harm you or worry and anxiety overtake you for any reason. Can you imagine the great faith and trust that Peter had in the Lord? I’m pretty sure he knew what happened to James. And now here he is in bonds in cell, by the hands of the same that killed a fellow Christian….but there was enough peace in his heart that it says, “Peter was sleeping..” It takes great peace of mind and heart to sleep at times. I can see here his trust was in The Lord not in men. May The Lord grant us this peace that surpasses all understanding in the time of trouble.

    Matthew 10:28
And fear not them that kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul; but rather fear Him that is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Philippians 1:21New King James Version (NKJV)

21 For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

  25. Acts 12:7 And,behold, the Angel of the Lord came upon him,and a light shined in the prison:and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up,saying,Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.

  26. Acts 12:23 (KJV Strong’s)
23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

    Acts 12:7 (KJV Strong’s)
7 And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.

Pride and humility gave two different outcomes with the Angel of the Lord. Peter wanted to be set free but held his peace. He didn’t fight against them and accepted his faith while trusting in God.

    He was delivered.

Pride caused Herod to think himself a God and steal the glory from the Lord. His body was eaten by the worms.

He was imprisoned to eternal torment.

In the end God gets the last word. Trust him no matter what it looks like right now.

  27. 11 And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.

God has your back, be patient and trust in God, and he will deliver you from bondage.

  28. 5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

When Peter was in trouble, when he was thrown into prison, that’s when the church stepped up and they made their prayers known unto God. Even though the results probably weren’t immediate, they didn’t stop, they continued on praying without stopping. And because of their determination, God answered their prayers and sent an angel to Peter to deliver him from his prayer.

That is one thing we need in the church today is prayer, and more prayer. Much prayer is much power, little prayer is little power and no prayer is no power. If we can give ourselves the urgency and the desire to want to pray to God more, God will see our effort and answer our prayers, especially in our time of trouble.

  29. 13 And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda.

14 And when she knew Peter’s voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood before the gate.

15 And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel.

Peter went to a house that had people praying. They were praying for Peter and his deliverance. The answer was knocking at the gate! Rhoda didn’t answer the gate for gladness, instead she went to others and shared the answer was there they just needed to receive it. The others thought her mad but she was insistent and they finally went to check. Sometimes our promise or answer is knocking on the door and we just need to receive it. Sometimes after praying for something for so long we could focus so much on the asking that we miss the answer God provides.

  30. 23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

We have to give God glory with a passion we don’t need to give Him a baby clap or a little praise because He died for our sins so why would we just sit in our seats and let everyone else give Him the glory, we need to act like we really love Him because He never left our side!!

  31. 16 But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished.

Prayer worked so fast that the people couldn’t grasp it was already done, and despite the persecution, God did this miracle and the word of God grew and multiplied. We must mix our faith with our prayers and expect to see the results.

  32. Pray without ceasing
5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

A church that prays without ceasing is a church that breaks lives out of prison.

  33. God will send help your way to get you out of trouble. When it feels like we’ve gone in too deep, God still knows how to pull us out. We serve an amazing God anf his mercy truly endures forever.

  34. “Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. “Quick, get up!” he said, and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭12:7‬ ‭NIV‬‬

When Peter woke up his chains fell off. We need to realize that once we wake up from the slumber we have allowed ourselves to fall under, chains that once had us bound will simply fall off. It’s time to wake up!

  35. “And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: but they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king’s chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was nourished by the king’s country.” There was no denying Herod’s wicked iron rule, however one should also take notice of the deception; as we read on (22 And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man). Dear God, help me to recognize and forgive me of any wickedness or deception, as both are evil in your sight; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In God we trust”. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  36. We are.in prison in this world of sin
but by our faith in Jesus he release’s
us from the prison everyday as he did Paul
now we need to do his work by going out
tell everyone what laws he’s written for us to live by
    as Peter did

  37. 6 And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.

God is so awesome! Some would say man I wish I was there to see this and be apart of all the miracles that went on back then. You know we serve the same God, my God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. What he did then he does now! We have seen miracles in our time, and God continues to do a great work. We just need to make sure our faith is where is needs to be. God is able to deliver us from any situation.

  38. “The people gave him a great ovation, shouting, “It’s the voice of a god, not of a man!” Instantly, an angel of the Lord struck Herod with a sickness, because he accepted the people’s worship instead of giving the glory to God. So he was consumed with worms and died.”
    ‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭12:22-23‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Don’t ever take the something away from GOD especially when it was meant for HIM. I would rather be on GOD’S good side instead of HIS bad side.

  39. 9Peter followed him out of the prison, but he had no idea that what the angel was doing was really happening; he thought he was seeing a vision.

Peter was assured that the Lord would bring him through this trial for his glory. Those who are delivered out of spiritual imprisonment must follow their Deliverer, like the Israelites when they went out of the house of bondage (Egypt) they didn’t know where they were going, but knew whom they followed. When God makes a way for his people, all difficulties will be overcome, even gates of iron are made to open of their own accord is just like the parting of the Red Sea. This deliverance of Peter represents our redemption by Christ, which not only proclaims liberty to the captives, but brings them out of prison. Peter, when he recollected himself, realized what great things God had done for him. Souls delivered out of spiritual bondage, are not at first aware what God is working on in them; until he allows them to look back at where he lead them out of. Our part is to follow him even though we have no idea where he is leading us, to follow Him into our unknown.

  40. The persecuted Church, they killed James, like he was a christian trophy for the Jews, and then turned to do the same to Peter. Another Angel visit had occurred, but to rescue Peter, because God wasn’t done with him yet. God rescued him from Harrod, and the Jewish people, and used an Angel to do it with. Have you seen an Angel yet? Not me! But, we haven’t been threatened unto death yet either and not by a crazed ruler. The anointing upon their lives must to have been seriously strong not to have fear grip their hearts by all these threats of violence or death by many people, and the ones that rule over them.

    “Be Strong in Christ Jesus”…………………………………………..

  41. “And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying. And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭12:12-13‬ ‭KJV
In the beginning of this part of Peter’s lifeless was in prison. Even in the darkest part of his lifehewas praising God. Even when things didn’t look like they were ever going to go his way he still loved God and sought how he should please Him.
