Proverbs 1

1 The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;

2 To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;

3 To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;

4 To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.

5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

6 To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.

7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

8 My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

9 For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.

10 My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.

11 If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:

12 Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit:

13 We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:

14 Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:

15 My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:

16 For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.

17 Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.

18 And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives.

19 So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.

20 Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:

21 She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying,

22 How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?

23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

24 Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;

25 But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:

26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;

27 When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.

28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the Lord:

30 They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.

31 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

32 For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.

33 But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

  1. The Lord is high and lifted up.

    Thankyou Lord for Your protection.I want to obey you.you’re right Lord, sinners will entice you to sing. I have to be careful to not get to close to them personally.

    I love You JESUS. I do appreciate the benefits to knowing You. Which is having knowledge and knowing You w protection and long life. This is an eye opener to me today, I needed to read this this morning.
    I love You JESUS. Thankyou for caring for me.

  2. 23. Turn to me and receive my gentle correction; Watch and I will pour out my spirit on you; I will share with you my wise words in order to redirect your lives. The Voice

    The good news is, it doesn’t say it’s too late and all hope is lost; there’s an opportunity if we will be humble enough to take correction receive instruction.

    “Fear of the LORD is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭1:7‬ ‭NLT‬‬

    As we have watched the progress of the new building, one thing should immediately become evident, and that is how important the foundation is to the success of the entire building.

    The truth of the physical can also be seen in the supernatural realm. The bible says that the fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge. Those who go through the scriptures are not going to find true knowledge. That is why there are so many different doctrines in the world out there, people have built doctrines without true respect for God. For example, one might wonder how homosexuals could ever have their own church that promotes that lifestyle. The answer is they do not fear the Lord and therefore they’re able to build on the foundation that’s not secure in the word of the Lord .

  4. Verses 1-6 MSG “These are the wise sayings of Solomon, David’s son, Israel’s king—Written down so we’ll know how to live well and right, to understand what life means and where it’s going; A manual for living, for learning what’s right and just and fair; To teach the inexperienced the ropes and give our young people a grasp on reality. There’s something here also for seasoned men and women, still a thing or two for the experienced to learn—Fresh wisdom to probe and penetrate, the rhymes and reasons of wise men and women.” Same verses in the AMP “The proverbs (truths obscurely expressed, maxims) of Solomon son of David, king of Israel: To know [skillful and godly] wisdom and instruction; To discern and comprehend the words of understanding and insight,
    To receive instruction in wise behavior and the discipline of wise thoughtfulness, Righteousness, justice, and integrity; That prudence (good judgment, astute common sense) may be given to the naive or inexperienced [who are easily misled], And knowledge and discretion (intelligent discernment) to the youth, The wise will hear and increase their learning, And the person of understanding will acquire wise counsel and the skill [to steer his course wisely and lead others to the truth], To understand a proverb and a figure [of speech] or an enigma with its interpretation, And the words of the wise and their riddles [that require reflection].” This Truth is for ALL, young and old.

    Verse 7’s caption in the MSG says “Start with God”. This verse in the AMP says “The [reverent] fear of the Lord [that is, worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome] is the beginning and the preeminent part of knowledge [its starting point and its essence]; But arrogant [a]fools despise [skillful and godly] wisdom and instruction and self-discipline.”

  5. College is no wisdom. You can have all tge degrees to back up your name. But true wisdom and knowledge comes from seeking the kingdom and giving all respect to God. 7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

    Jesus forgive them please! They do not see you. And they dont know what their doing!!28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

  6. Wise men except correction amd you know to many times we have pride and are like no I don’t need your help or don’t tell me what to do there’s no wisdom in that not even spiritual wisdom, We must have the fear of the lord in us I don’t mean be scared cause he’s gunna kill you no I mean to have respect and obedience for the lord . Don’t be a fool and deny correction or instruction , some people say I’m dumb or I can’t do this I’m not smart we can all start with the fear of the lord.That is wear you will find your wisdom.

    7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

  7. 7 Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline. (NLT)

    That’s all folks! Fear the Lord and He will be your sure foundation as you seek truth; love wisdom and love discipline because without them both, who knows what kind of filthy sinful life we would be living in.

  8. 30 They rejected my advice
    and paid no attention when I corrected them.

    31 Therefore, they must eat the bitter fruit of living their own way,
    choking on their own schemes.

    33 But all who listen to me will live in peace,
    untroubled by fear of harm.”

    Want a bitter and sorrowful life? Reject The Lord.
    Want a peaceful life? Listen to The Lord.

    Love that Proverbs keeps it simple.

  9. 5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

    6 To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.

    I absolutely love this, a wise man will hear, and will increase learning…,
    He that winneth souls is wise. Let’s be soul winners! Go reap this harvest.

  10. 25 But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:

    26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;

    27 When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.

    28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

    We tend to think it’s bound a big deal when, in the moment, the direction that God is leading us is not as appealing as our own. We do dumb things like ignore the voice of God or convince ourselves that we are right. Sadly if we do this long enough when we look up we tasked that we are further from God then we have been. We are clearly warned that then it’ll be to late and exactly what we have brought on ourselves is exactly what we are going to go through. No use blaming God

  11. Philosophy

    Philosophy is the love of wisdom (Greek: phileo (love or like) sophia (wisdom), aka the study of wisdom. Many people actually do not like it. The majority of people that take philosophy class hate it, but theology and philosophy go hand in hand.

    Proverbs is about wisdom as Solomon says “To know wisdom and instruction” (v. 2). He continues that fools despise wisdom and instructions (v. 7). Wisdom (translated from Hebrew is hak-ma(h) with the Greek equivalent in the LXX sophia) is something to be desired. Some defined wisdom as the application of knowledge, but this definition only scratches the surface of its meaning, especially theologically. Proverbs 9:10 suggests the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom. Paralleled with Proverbs 1:7 we see the fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge. Thus the fear of the LORD is both the beginning of wisdom and knowledge, namely moral knowledge. The fear of the LORD is understood as (1) terror (Deut 1:29), (2) “to stand in awe” (1 Kgs 3:28), (3) “to revere; to respect” (Lev 19:3). Unfortunately, a large number of Christians never start the journey to wisdom and knowledge.

    May God rid us of ignorance. May we accept God in His fullness that in addition to coming to knowledge in truth that we also become wise. The folly of abandoning wisdom is seen in verses 23- 33. May we answer the call of wisdom and embrace it as it calls out (v. 21). This world esteems knowledge and logic, despite the majority lacking both. This is why science is so attractive. May we have a proper balance of apostolic ministry, wisdom, and knowledge to reach this dying world and to protect our own from the crafty speech of the secular world.

  12. 29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the Lord:

    30 They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.

    31 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

    32 For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.

    33 But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

    When you reject God, you reject wisdom and joy. If you want to live a live of wisdom, understanding, and joy you must me willing to accept the correction of God!!

  13. True Wisdom

    7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

    I know a lot of people might not care for my point of view but here it is. Criticism is not giving instruction!!!!!! Some come and break a new believer or a young person with criticism and then say: “well is not my fault they don’t want instruction in their lives”! No, you see instruction is done with love, direction, and true concern. Criticism comes with blame, finger pointing, and accusations. You could stand in front of some one and tell them or attempt to tell them everything they are doing wrong and break them piece by piece. That is not giving instructions, that is criticism!!! Now, if you seat with some one and use your own mistakes as an example, explain how you wish you would of done things differently, and show them how the word of God says how to do it. That my friend is instructions. Lets get down from the holier than thou seat, pay attention in what we say, how we say it, and wear the other persons shoes for a short time. Then seek God’s counsel before we are quick to stick our tongues and noses with our criticism in some one else’s life. Lord teach us Love, Patience, and instruction so we may help those around us and lead by example. Help us have a heart of a servant, love our Bro & Sis and lead them with instruction not Criticism. In Jesus Name I pray AMEN.

  14. NO MORE FOOLS

    7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

    The plot of satan is simple. Turn believers against GOD. The little lies, questions and accusations are unending darts from the wicked one. If cannot turn us directly against GOD, he will plot the next best division, the man of GOD in your life. Your Pastor, his Staff and the 5 fold Ministry that supports the Pastor.

    The FEAR of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge. Why? There is no end to knowledge. Too often believers gain knowledge of GOD through a desperate hunger and quest for MORE of HIM. Then satan plots to them that they know enough and the Quest for MORE of GOD dissipates daily and the carnal mind is again in control of the life.

    GOD then uses his mouthpiece to each generation. Apostles, Pastors, Prophets, Teachers, Evangelists and faithful Spiritual Leaders to share WISDOM and give INSTRUCTION and the carnal mind and human spirit reject the WISE words of instructions. The end result is the once strong believer begins to make foolish decisions and begins to serve self instead of GOD.

    I say NO MORE FOOLS. We must all REPENT today and ask GOD if our attitude towards wisdom and instruction is despiteful. Do we get our feelings hurt when instruction is given that is contrary to what we desire to hear? Do we shun the Spiritual Leader in our life when we hear words of wisdom and instruction that opposes our desires.

    Don’t be a FOOL. KNOWLEDGE is lifelong journey that we are all engaged in. There is not a “Know it ALL”.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive

  15. Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;

    Answering the call

    The call to war for others. The call to reach out for others. The call to leadership. The call of God on your life. What type of calling do you have on your life. We must remember. Many are called but few are chosen.

  16. Proverbs 1:1-6 (NLT)
    1) These are the proverbs of Solomon, David’s son, king of Israel.
    2) Their purpose is to teach people wisdom and discipline, to help them understand the insights of the wise.
    3) Their purpose is to teach people to live disciplined and successful lives, to help them do what is right, just, and fair.
    4) These proverbs will give insight to the simple, knowledge and discernment to the young.
    5) Let the wise listen to theses proverbs and become even wiser. Let those with understanding receive guidance.
    6) by exploring the meaning in these proverbs and parables, the words of the wise and their riddles.

    As we read the book of Proverbs, may we heed to the words and learn what this book is teaching us.

  17. 23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words

    The Word of God was written by divine inspiration of the Spirit of God. We need of His Spirit to understand and have revelation of the word of God.

  18. 15 My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:

    16 For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.

    We must guard our heart and our minds so that those we around do not pollute our thinking. The scripture teaches us to be in the world, but not of the world. We will never win the world if we separate ourselves from them. We must be a Godly example to them, and the only way that can happen is if we rub shoulders with them and let them see Jesus in us. However, we cannot become like them, there must be a line of separation, demarkation to let them know that Jesus lives in us and there are things we can’t and won’t do because Jesus lives in us.

  19. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction”. If a person goes to traffic court the earthly judge will say “ignorance of the law is no excuse”. The Judge of all (Jesus) will either say; “well done” or “depart from me” one day. As such wanting to know more about God’s word should have an entirely new meaning. Dear God forgive me for the times I have been foolish; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In God we trust”. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  20. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭1:7‬ ‭NIV

    Always be open to learning something new. No matter what age the person is there is knowledge to gain. You’re a fool to think otherwise.

  21. Proverbs 1:20 (ESV Strong’s)
    The Call of Wisdom
    20 Wisdom cries aloud in the street,
    in the markets she raises her voice;

    Cries – (CWSB Dictionary) A verb meaning to shout for joy; to sing joyfully. It indicates the utterance or crying out of a person or persons.
    It is used in general of putting forth a cry of encouragement, exhortation, instruction.

    Wisdom cries out shouting encouragement, and joy. She is excited, and tells others about her ways. She does not condemn, talk down, or ridicule. This isn’t a cry of desperation, or help. She joyfully says come with laughter in her voice.

    However if the people refuse her then calamity will come upon them. Wisdom is an attribute of God. He wants us to have wisdom because it is a gift we can receive. It’s like opening a present on Christmas. Wisdom will help us through every aspect of our lives as long as we keep our fear of the Lord.

  22. 5 My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:

    16 For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.
    Oh becarful little feet where you go, for the father up above is looking down with love, oh becareful little feet where you go! ,Yes it is a kids song but it very important to make sure that we go in the palces that we are supose to go or hang around.

  23. 5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

    6 To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.

    Listen and study. It’s a sign of wisdom. Learn from your elders. Growing in knowledge and understanding. Study out the meanings of the proverbs. Don’t just take them at face value all the time. Dig deeper!

  24. What a sad place to be when your prayers go unanswered and the face of God is hidden. And all because we have rejected knowledge and have no fear of God.

    “Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the Lord:”

    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭1:28-29‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    “Then shall they cry unto the Lord, but he will not hear them: he will even hide his face from them at that time, as they have behaved themselves ill in their doings.”
    ‭‭Micah‬ ‭3:4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

  25. 23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

    24 Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;

    25 But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:

    26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;

    27 When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.

    28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

    Hear the Lotd today. Harden not your heart at his correction and obey his word, then he will make a way for us where we not see a way.

  26. 10 My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.

    11 If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:

    Sin can be very enticing, it can tempt you with things that are fine or acceptance, but once you let sin into your life it grab ahold of you and it won’t let you go, it won’t let you try it out to see if it is for you. It doesn’t care if you wanna change your mind, it will try to keep you bonded in sin. With God’s grace of course he can deliver you from that, but let’s go on the defensive and stop the devil in his tracks before he can get any traction in your life.

    If we can stop him before he can enter into your life, we can give live a holier life to God and live for him without distractions to pull us off the path to his will.

  27. 5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

    6 To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.

    7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

    Many of us can remember our teachers in school. I remember my 2nd grade teacher Mrs. Pittman. She was a beautiful woman inside and out. She was why I always wanted to be a teacher.

    She would always say it’s now enough to hear me but do you understand it? Can you do it? Can you apply it? If you can’t come ask my door is always open until test time.

    In verse5 we see that a man of understanding seeks after the wise and the wise seeks more learning. Mrs. Pittman taught me many things but to seek the answer until you obsorb it is one great concept I will never forget.

  28. “For they hated knowledge and chose not to fear the LORD. They rejected my advice and paid no attention when I corrected them. Therefore, they must eat the bitter fruit of living their own way, choking on their own schemes.

    But all who listen to me will live in peace, untroubled by fear of harm.””
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭1:29-31, 33‬ ‭NLT‬‬
    http

    When we choose to not fear God and listen to wisdom of others we lose out on not only knowledge but a peaceful walk….instead we get a bitter taste of ourself. With not fearing God and not listening and going our own path our fruit turn bitter and not only does that hurt us but it hurts our friends we are trying to reach because of the fruit they see…..so whatever we do doesn’t just effect ourselves but others around us. Just like God is always watching so is someone else.

  29. “A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels: To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭1:5-6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    Wisdom and understanding. To know what the book says. To learn from the words and then to understand the small parAbles held within. To put all these things to work within ones own mind. Wow. The interpretation of each parable is much more than just words. Research, Devine revelation, and sometimes even a word from a friend help with the interpretation of scripture. Putting it into practice is the true show of revelation, wisdom, and knowledge.

  30. This is one of things today that seems to be missing, that is the fear of the Lord and to being wise or receiving reproof/correction. I, know we all have been guilty of this and think we are alright but we need to admit to our faults or weaknesses. Remembering, every action there are consequences for our actions. God will not be mocked, so any sin confess & repent. “Fear not what man can do to you, but to him whom can cast your soul into hell”. Remember also, not all that say Lord, Lord, will enter into his kingdom. Feed, Clothe, Visit, and Heal the sick,……………………..

    “Fear the Lord”…………………………But, “LOVE HIM”……………………………………

  31. 5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

    Wisdom, Wisdom, Wisdom!!!! The key to success!!! When you are able to listen and learn to what others have told you to do and not to do will help you on the long run. I have always thought you can either learn the easy way or the hard way. My family have always told me to get an education and a degree and never thought I really needed til I got married 🙂 I had to learn the hard way but God is good and is opening doors that only He can open to further in my education. And praise God for my Pastor because I know that He is full of wisdom and will help me and direct me that path that is best for my family and me. Grateful to have someone in my life that I know I can count on when in doubt. But overall Jesus is my everything!!!! He is able to turned nothing into something and go beyond what we can do or think. Give me wisdoms Jesus to walk daily the right path because without you I am lost and can’t do nothing. Hallelujah!!

  32. 10 My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not

    Mistakes that we make come from choice, by consent. We have parents fill out consent forms for their children to attend events and ride church buses. However, life doesn’t hand you a form, it doesn’t give you a warning flash. God is the one who gives us warning when we are getting off track, his still small voice begins to get harder to hear. When the things and people of this world try to tempt us, we have a choice. Wisdom is applied knowledge and what we have learned from the Lord we can use to combat the teptations of this world.

  33. Verse 7 states that the fear of the lord is the beginning of wisdom. Could it be understood that in verse 22, the fools that love ignorance are those that reject God? When we do turn to God, He does pour out His spirit on us so I feel it’s safe to understand those verses as so.

  34. Proverbs 1:12
    Sheol ( means “the place of the dead” or “the grave”) is used several times in Proverbs as the place to which the path of the foolish leads.
