Proverbs 3

1 My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:

2 For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.

3 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:

4 So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.

8 It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.

9 Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:

10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

11 My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither be weary of his correction:

12 For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

13 Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.

14 For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold.

15 She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.

16 Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour.

17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.

18 She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.

19 The Lord by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens.

20 By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew.

21 My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:

22 So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck.

23 Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.

24 When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.

25 Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh.

26 For the Lord shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.

27 Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it.

28 Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee.

29 Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee.

30 Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm.

31 Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways.

32 For the froward is abomination to the Lord: but his secret is with the righteous.

33 The curse of the Lord is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just.

34 Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly.

35 The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools.

  1. MSG 5-8
    Trust God from the bottom of your heart;
    don’t try to figure out everything on your own.
    Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go;
    he’s the one who will keep you on track.
    Don’t assume that you know it all.
    Run to God! Run from evil!
    Your body will glow with health,
    your very bones will vibrate with life!

    We must not allow pride to kill our dependence on Him. A prideful heart can not trust God and will fail to hear His voice. Yet, a wise and humble man will find life and strength in knowing he is not alone but God is always with him.

  2. 11. My son, do not ignore the Eternal’s instruction or lose heart when He steps in to correct you;

    12. Because the Eternal proves His love by caring enough to discipline you, just as a father does his child, his pride and joy. The Voice

    No one enjoys being corrected, but we realize that it’s for our good, so we are thankful that God loves us enough to do what’s best for us, not what is easiest on our pride.

  3. 3 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:

    4 So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

    We must also have truth and mercy evident in our lives. Our lives must be built on the foundation of truth – truth sets us free from bondage of sin, truth liberates us and allows us to build upon the principles in the Word of God. Truth leads and guides into the proper relationship with Jesus Christ, and Truth gives us the hope of eternity with the Savior. Mercy is necessary to operate in our lives each and every day. We must not judge harshly or quickly, and allow the same mercy that God extended unto us as sinner to be in us, extending to others. If we will allow Truth to dictate the path that we take and extend mercy when necessary, both of these attributes will work hand in hand and will cause us to walk in the favor of the Lord and with man.

    3Never let loyalty and kindness leave you!
    Tie them around your neck as a reminder.
    Write them deep within your heart.
    4Then you will find favor with both God and people,
    and you will earn a good reputation.

    This is a great verse that teaches us how to have favor with both God and man. The answer is loyalty and kindness deep in your heart. Wow. Sometimes we make life so complicated. Let us take this approach into Friend Day 2015 like this and we will find both favor with God and favor with man.

  5. THE WARNING AGAINST ARROGANCE

    5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
    6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
    7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.

    Arrogance is fertilized by success. Whether in life, business or ministry success is hard sought and well should be.The greatest peril of success is arrogance. Success often leads to inflated self worth, which births deception the heart of an unsubmittted, unaccountable believer.

    Deception begins when we think we did it, when we take credit for any part of success. Deception is subtle and suggests that “I am right and everyone else is wrong” it aways begins with “they just don’t understand” and is fed with “I am doing fine”.

    The warning is clear here in chapter 3. There is danger when we refuse instruction or correction. Consulting with self alone is dangerous to the soul. Do not ass-u-me you are wise and everyone else is behind you.

    The MSG version states very clearly the warning:

    1-2 Good friend, don’t forget all I’ve taught you;
    take to heart my commands.
    They’ll help you live a long, long time,
    a long life lived full and well.
    3-4 Don’t lose your grip on Love and Loyalty.
    Tie them around your neck; carve their initials on your heart.
    Earn a reputation for living well
    in God’s eyes and the eyes of the people.
    5-7 Trust God from the bottom of your heart;
    don’t try to figure out everything on your own.
    Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go;
    he’s the one who will keep you on track.
    Don’t assume that you know it all.
    Run to God! Run from evil!

    11-12 But don’t, dear friend, resent God’s discipline;
    don’t sulk under his loving correction.
    It’s the child he loves that God corrects;
    a father’s delight is behind all this.

  6. 12 For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.
    13 Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.
    14 For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold.

    Wisdom and understanding. Is worth so much more. We must gain these by hard work , humbleness, and a willing heart.

  7. 5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

    6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

    7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.

    Where we place our trust is important in our walk with God, we are nothing but God is everything. When man leans to his understanding and not the mind of God we will fail.
    I see these scriptures as telling man what he should do to excell in God. We must learn to lean on Jesus and not ourselves!
    Trust in the Lord!

  8. It took me a long time to submit to this words and understand the reverence we owe to Our Lord and Savior. Why?? Because I was a rule breaker and was told I would not be able to amount to much, just give up, get married, and have babies. Now, I am not criticizing those that chos that life if it was what you really wanted and gave you a fulfilling of life. My family laughed saying I was a professional student that collected degrees, and when was I going to confront and be part of the working community. What they did not know was that I did it thinking that with all that knowledge I can be proud of myself and have more wisdom than all; until the day I laid my head on my grandmas lap. Here I was a grown woman, with a son, and a collections of degrees and military codes, laying my head on the lap of a grandmother that was never able to learn how to read. She began to talk to me and she said what are you trying to proof to this world? Who are you trying to please? All of this means nothing in the eyes of God if there is no love in your heart. This woman without any education had a wisdom beyond anything else. As she continue to speak to me I found knowledge of philosophy, psychology, theology, engineering, name it she had it but how??? This woman that never learn how to read nor write could quote the bible by memory just from going to church. I finally build my courage to ask her with all the respect that we owed her. She replied…”ALL YOU WILL EVER NEED TO KNOW IS IN HIS WORD”… She also said YES LEARN, EDUCATE YOURSELF AND OTHERS, but without God and His Love it is just a pretty paper. Thank you Grandma for breaking my pride, showed me your great wisdom in humility, and taking your chancla at me the many times I needed it.
    5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

    6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

  9. 4 So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

    5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

    6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
    We must seek the favour and understanding of God in everything that we do. We must understand that without him we can do nothing and that its only through his wisdom and leaning on him that we will be able to make the right choices in life.

  10. 3 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:

    4 So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

    Mercy and truth, spirit and law. We need them both

    .3 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:

    4 So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

  11. “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3:5-8‬ ‭KJV‬‬
    http://bible.com/1/pro.3.5-8.kjv

    We should be careful to not get an arrogant attitude and say “I got this”. It would be the wisest thing to say Lord I need you lead me. I am reminded of Solomn’s prayer when the kingdom of Israel was being handed down to him. He pretty much said Lord i need you abs your wisdom to lead your people. The Lord Jesus is all knowing and all powerful. A good friend will have the best interest for you, and will guide you to what’s best for your life. The Lord is looking for relationship with us and that we may trust him.

  12. Lord let me find wisdom, so I can obtain HAPPINESS…….I need more wisdom, and with this getting let me get understanding too. Because, I want to be happy, and gain wisdom with understanding. Seems to me that wisdom is a very beautiful thing and she can be found, but we must pursue her. I need some pleasantness & peace, so we must get a hold of her. I’m going to get her, so I can have this tree of life, and I’m going to be happy!

    “Fear the Lord”….”Catch Wisdom, She’s Beautiful”……”In Jesus name, Amen!”….

  13. God’s charm.

    He took me and molded me into a good Holy Ghost believer. Thankyou Lord, thankyou for the pastors and ministers teachers evangelists that taught me your word all these 11years. I give God all the glory for my little fear. I learned some lessons and taught people from my mistakes that they don’t make the same ones I’ve made. But all in all God has the Apple of my eye. I love Him for the proverbs I need the Word. Thankyou Lord. You,Jesus, are super BEAUTIFUL!

  14. “Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it”. In times past this was the norm; people helped each other and expected nothing in return. The one thing for certain is, one that continually takes, will always be in need. Whereas one that will give of; time, talent, or treasure expecting nothing in return, will always have more to give. Dear God, let me be a giver; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In God we trust”. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  15. An example of a possibility of being wrong.

    V 20 primordial sea

    The word תְּהוֹמוֹת (téhomot, “primordial sea”) alludes to the chaotic “deep” in Gen 1:2 (BDB 1063 s.v. תְּהוֹם 3). This was viewed in the ancient world as a force to be reckoned with. However, God not only formed it but controls it (see J. Emerton, “Spring and Torrent in Ps 74:15,” VT 15 [1965]: 125).

    Ancient culture had an idea about how the world was structured that is arguably off. It is possible to reconcile this with metaphor but I suppose it’s not really that relevant. The important thing is, according to the Bible, Zhou created and controlled the Tiamet. This is the opposite of every other pagan religion at the time. Where cults thought a war of the gods caused the formation of earth and the great flood, the Bible gives Jehovah the credit for that.

  16. “My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3:11-12‬ ‭NIV‬‬

    When you’re disciplined by God it’s not because he hates you, he wants to see you grow. No spoiled brat grows into a great success. It takes hard work and discipline to achieve things in life. So be grateful and appreciative of the Lords discipline.

  17. Proverbs 3:11-12 (KJV Strong’s)
    11 My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord;
    neither be weary of his correction:
    12 For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth;
    even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

    Chastening – (MED) [4592] מוּסָר mûsār 50x discipline, instruction, correction; wisdom and teaching that imply correcting errant behavior

    Correction – (CWSB Dictionary) H8433. תּוֹכֵחָה tôḵēḥāh, תּוֹכַחַת tôḵaḥaṯ: A feminine noun meaning a rebuke, a correction, a reproof, an argument. The primary thrust of this word is that of correcting some wrong. It is employed to express the concept of rebuking.

    Chastening is instruction to correct future behavior. Correction is an immediate rebuke of an action. For example if you are driving a vehicle and get pulled over for wreckless driving the classes you take are the chastening. You are learning how to correct the behavior.

    If you run a red light purposely and hit another vehicle the immediate consequence is the rebuke, or correction.

    Both of these are displays of mercy and love. If God didn’t care he wouldn’t correct. We need him to help us stay in line and be grateful when we get heavenly spankings.

  18. The fruitful tree

    18 She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.

    Wisdom is a tree that keeps on giving. The fruit is never consumed, but you can pass it to anyone that is willing to receive it. Learning from our elders should be part of our busy schedule. Wisdom is a powerful thing. It can save your life or give life to others. Help us lord to seek you for wisdom daily.

  19. ‬‬6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. (Proverbs 3:6 KJV).

    We as Gods children in all our ways of acknowledging his truth and accepting the fact that the lost souls out in this world don’t realize how this world is falling apart each everyday and they continue to live there lives the way they want to and not listen and ignore the word that’s been preached out in this world it is up to us the children of God to teach and minister the powerful word of God to the people out in this world today. We know that the people that are lost and trying to find there way around the society and not knowing that the world is falling apart each and everyday and that they don’t see that there just wasting time by thinking they can solve the world by doing what they think is right but all they have to do is listen to the word that’s been preached out in this world and look up to the heavens and the mighty God will direct every lost souls path where ever he has for you in store!!! In Jesus Name Amen !!! Praise God !!! Hallelujah Glory to God in the most highest!!!!

  20. Verses 5-6 MSG “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” Trust and seek in the Lord what His will is for your life!

  21. 27-29 Never walk away from someone who deserves help;
    your hand is God’s hand for that person.
    Don’t tell your neighbor “Maybe some other time”
    or “Try me tomorrow”
    when the money’s right there in your pocket.
    Don’t figure ways of taking advantage of your neighbor
    when he’s sitting there trusting and unsuspecting.

    You are here for a reason. You are called to this place for a chosen purpose. When we step out of the will of God to disobey its as if we are amputating ourselves from the church body. He wants to work through us, He wants to use us to help our Friends! Don’t take for granted the blessings, we are a privileged generation.

  22. How beautiful living for the Lord is!! Even though at times it’s hard, the promises of God are clearly stated in this passage.

  23. “Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the LORD and turn away from evil. Then you will have healing for your body and strength for your bones.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3:7-8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

    These two scriptures popped out to me and were interesting because basically coming out in my view saying, “don’t be prideful, but give glory to God and fear the Lord and He will heal you and give you strength.” So reading this scripture let me know that when God says He will take care of our needs He meant in every area including our health. But in doing so we must not be prideful and think we can do it on our own….that’s when God will let go of the reins a little and see how we do.

  24. Remain loyal and kind to family and friends. Be kind! Have compassion our brother and sisters in Christ.
    “Never let loyalty and kindness leave you! Tie them around your neck as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart. Then you will find favor with both God and people, and you will earn a good reputation.

    Do not withhold good from those who deserve it when it’s in your power to help them. If you can help your neighbor now, don’t say, “Come back tomorrow, and then I’ll help you.””

    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3:3-4, 27-28‬ ‭NLT‬‬

  25. Our Heavenly Father will discipline us because we are his children. He deals with us as sons and daughters and if he didn’t we would be illegitamate children. Loving and caring parents will correct their children. Godly natural parents have the responsibilty of being this example in their lives and pass it down to their children. The same way knowledge is needed for wisdom, submission is needed for discipline. A disciple is literally someone who us ever learning under the submission of God. It’s not easy and it takes time and work but it will make you grow stronger. Discipline doesn’t feel go it takes time with instruction, learning and application. Your body may get tired and sore from training for a race, and while you are running it but once you reach the finishline it will be glorious.

    Heb 12:11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

  26. 5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

    Since knowledge and wisdom comes from the Lord, who better to trust with all our problems and issues we have in life? And when he tells us to do something, we should do it… because God is the author of wisdom, he is the maker of it. Can’t get any wiser advice than what you can get from God

  27. 11 My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither be weary of his correction:

    12 For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

    13 Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.

    As King David once said, it is far better to endure the correction of the Lord than that of man. Revenge or retaliation of man is centered on him feeling satisfaction after he has acted, but God has a purpose for his correction: to make you wiser, happier & to keep you saved.

  28. “Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3:7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    Be not wise in thine own eyes.
    Sometimes we do things that we think is alright. The whole time we are doing these things people around us are telling us to stop. When we are finished we realize they were right. Hindsight is now 20/20. If we would have just listened we might hAve avoided some of these things. When we listen to others who listen to God or have gone through similar events before us we are not just leaning on our own wisdom.
    Pray. Listen. Pray. Do.

  29. Proverbs 3:2
    The practical benefits of wisdom include a lack of anxiety, which brings peace to the soul as well as vigorous physical health.
