Proverbs 5

1 My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:

2 That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.

3 For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:

4 But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.

5 Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.

6 Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them.

7 Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.

8 Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:

9 Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:

10 Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger;

11 And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,

12 And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;

13 And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!

14 I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.

15 Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.

16 Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.

17 Let them be only thine own, and not strangers’ with thee.

18 Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.

19 Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.

20 And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?

21 For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, and he pondereth all his goings.

22 His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.

23 He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

  1. Verses 21-23 MSG “Mark well that God doesn’t miss a move you make; he’s aware of every step you take. The shadow of your sin will overtake you; you’ll find yourself stumbling all over yourself in the dark. Death is the reward of an undisciplined life; your foolish decisions trap you in a dead end.” The Lord cannot bless bad decisions. Always seek the Lord’s direction in ALL things.

    Proverbs 5:23(Msg)Death is the reward of an undisciplined life;
    your foolish decisions trap you in a dead end.

    As I read this scripture, I received understanding for the reason that some folks backslide. This scripture explains it all in the fact that death (physical or spiritual) comes by being undisciplined.

    We must get strong in the faith and the way we do is through every day discipline. We must blog daily…our life depends on it.

  3. 12 And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;

    13 And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!

    The greatest failure there could be in life is to hate instruction and despise reproof. You will never reach the age someone will not have a greater wisdom to something’s than you. Can we train ourselves to be humble and listen to the reasoning of our teachers. Listen carefully to what we are taught, too many people have to much pride to continue to learn!

  4. 21. For the LORD sees clearly what a man does, examining every path he takes. NLT

    God sees everything we do; and while He doesn’t make us choose certain paths, He is always right there to help us choose the right path, if we would just ask Him.

  5. Mark well that GOD doesn’t miss a move you make; he’s aware of every step you take. The shadow of your sin will overtake you; you’ll find yourself stumbling all over yourself in the dark. Death is the reward of an undisciplined life; your foolish decisions trap you in a dead end. (‭Proverbs‬ ‭5‬:‭21-23‬ MSG)

    ‘Your foolish decisions trapped you’ because you thought that throughout your life we were keeping you from the ‘goods’ of this world. You’ve tasted and you believed it was good. Just as Adam and eve, as the prodigal son, as judas. Sin will always keep you from living your true calling in life. It has taken you away from the arms of a loving SAVIOUR.
    Repentance can bring you back. Only if you decide to come home to The Lord.

    For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (‭Romans‬ ‭6‬:‭23‬ KJV)

  6. 20 And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?
    21 For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, and he pondereth all his goings.
    22 His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.

    We must always be mindful, because our Father sees everything that we do, and although we might be tempted, we must stand for righteousness, because on the day of judgment, we will have to give an account of all our shortcomings.

  7. SELFISH IGNORANCE = LOST IN THE HOUSE OF THE LORD

    12 And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;
    13 And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!
    14 I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.

    How devastating and disappointing it would be to live a life surrounded by the blessings and people of GOD and not be a partaker with them.

    This is the result of life for individuals that think and feel that they know what is best for them.

    PRIDE hates instruction and reproof and will rebel and ignore all counsel from leaders. PRIDE will do what he/she wants, when they want, how they want, where they want.

    The end result of this arrogance is the deception of life. You go to church but you feel nothing so you participate in nothing. You attempt to prove your point that you do not need the instruction of teachers. However the only thing you prove is how distant you are from JESUS and HIS will for your LIFE.

    I pray today that we are able to see before it is the end described in this proverb. “All evil in the midst of the congregation”. Choose to surrender, submit, and serve the LORD with gladness. Receive instruction and be glad and be SAVED in the congregation.

  8. 2 Then you will show discernment, and your lips will express what you’ve learned. (NLT)

    What you say shows what you’ve learned. If you’ve learned respect and discipline, it will be noticed and likewise if you’ve not learned. No not everyone was raised in church but once you decide this is your church, what and who do you allow to give instruction in your life? What do your words and actions say about you?

    23 He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray. (KJV)

    We need the guidance and discipline of those who have authority over us; be grateful they would love us so much to not let us wander astray and into death.

  9. The chapter theme is Waring’s against the seductive woman. Drink water from your own well share your love only with your wife. Why spill your waters having sex with just anyone. Let your wife be a fountain of blessing.for you. I love my wife very much . In my work place I hear and see other men and women hitting on each other and they are married. I thank this is very disgusting and should not be going on but it does . Thank you Jesus for a wife that our love will always be shared only with each other.

  10. Hindsight

    12 And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;
    13 And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!

    We have all heard the expression, “hindsight is 20-20,” is it? It can be, but only if we pay attention to where we have been and what we have done. The daily happenings of life have the potential to be our teacher, and hindsight plays a vital role. Unfortunately, many people go through life just repeating the same old mistakes over and over again.

    We all make mistakes, but can we learn from them? Do we change our lives to prevent unwanted repeat behavior? You see, the truth of the matter is, if we can’t say yes to both of those questions, then the answer to both is really no. Wisdom comes to those who learn from their experiences, adjust their lives, and continue in the direction of their goals. Experience can teach us valuable lessons, but only if we are willing to adjust our lives accordingly.

  11. Let your fountain be blessed, And rejoice with the wife of your youth.

    This is apart of true happiness.

    Why spend time with people you know aint gonna last. Their wicked. With out knowing all there gonna do is waste your time and destroy you.

    On to better days.

  12. 13 And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!

    If you want be used in the kingdom of God, listen to the man and woman of God in your life. So many times in church there are people who get offended because they’re not being used as they would like to, but they don’t listen to the instructions of the people over them. If we are to prideful to listen to the authority over us, where exactly are we in our walk with God?

  13. 21-23 (MSG)
    Mark well that God doesn’t miss a move you make;
    he’s aware of every step you take.
    The shadow of your sin will overtake you;
    you’ll find yourself stumbling all over yourself in the dark.
    Death is the reward of an undisciplined life;
    your foolish decisions trap you in a dead end.

    It is troubling to know that people living in sin, believe they are living in “secrecy”. That no one knows. That they are missing the Fear of the Lord.

    Adam and Eve in the Garden, once they disobeyed they hid thinking the Lord would be unable to find them.

    It is almost insulting to think you would be able to “hide” anything from the King of Kings, the one who knows all and sees all.

    Numbers 32:23 (KJV) But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out.

    Isaiah 59:12 (KJV) For our transgressions are multiplied before thee, and our sins testify against us: for our transgressions are with us; and as for our iniquities, we know them;

    You may be “getting away with it”, but the Lord knows. He is giving you the opportunity to overcome and mature, He loves us enough to allow us to fail to learn from our mistakes.

  14. 21 For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, and he pondereth all his goings.

    We cannot hide our actions from God, but even more.. we cannot hide the intentions of our actions from God. Everything we do he sees and cares about.

  15. MSG – 7-14 So, my friend, listen closely;
    don’t treat my words casually.
    Keep your distance from such a woman;
    absolutely stay out of her neighborhood.
    You don’t want to squander your wonderful life,
    to waste your precious life among the hardhearted.
    Why should you allow strangers to take advantage of you?
    Why be exploited by those who care nothing for you?
    You don’t want to end your life full of regrets,
    nothing but sin and bones,
    Saying, “Oh, why didn’t I do what they told me?
    Why did I reject a disciplined life?
    Why didn’t I listen to my mentors,
    or take my teachers seriously?
    My life is ruined!
    I haven’t one blessed thing to show for my life!”

    A true friend loveth at all times, and will tell you the truth despite the fact that it may hurt your feelings, but it may save your soul.

    Thank you Pastor Watts for teaching us Sunday about what true friends.

  16. 15 Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.

    Strange waters.

    When you go to see friends in another state do you drink their water? Most of us would say no, because it tastes different. This is true for churches of different denominations. Why would you go and support another church when you have a home church? I’m not talking about to go visit friends but church hopping. Never satisfied with nothing. We must be careful when dealing with the “strange waters,” in our lives. But thanks be to God that we know He is the living water. The well that will not run dry. The good water. When we drink from him we shall never thirst again.

  17. 2He brought part of the money to the apostles, claiming it was the full amount. With his wife’s consent, he kept the rest.

    The desire of money! So many will do anything to get richer no matter what. The unrighteousness will steal and lie to friends and family members. People will not know if you lied to them but God does. It’s not worth the sin to lie or steal from God!

  18. 1 My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:

    2 That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.

    Many times a day I find myself repeating what my mother has taught to me to those who are younger. But depending on how hungry they are to learn something new determines if they pay attention at all.
    Pastor has taught about how you never loose the hunger, but how you choose to eat junk and ignore what your spirit truly hungers for, Gods word.

  19. Proverbs 5:1-2,7 & 10-13
    1) Dear friend, pay close attention to this, my wisdom; listen very closely to the way I see it.
    2) Then you’ll acquire a taste for good sense; what I tell you will keep you out of trouble.
    7) So, my friend, listen closely; don’t treat my words casually.

    10) Why should you allow strangers to take advantage of you? Why be exploited by those who care nothing for you?
    11) You don’t want to end your life full of regrets, nothing but sin and bones,
    12) Saying, “Oh, why didn’t I do what they told me? Why did I reject a disciplined life?
    13) Why didn’t I listen to my mentors, or take my teachers seriously?”

    The Wisest thing we can do is pay close attention and listen very closely to the wisdom of our Pastor, teachers, counsellors, leaders, etc. Pay attention and listen closely to what they say and don’t take their words casually. For if we listen and take heed to their words and warnings, it will keep us out of a lot of trouble.

    Listen to the words of the Wise for they care for you.
    Don’t listen to the words of a stranger, for they care nothing for you.

  20. Proverbs 5:23
    He dies for lack of discipline,
    and because of his great folly he is led astray.

    The reason we don’t like discipline is because it’s not easy, it takes work, time, dedication, and sacrifice it means that you have to do what you may not love to do but we need to see the bigger picture. If we do discipline ourselves for Christ not only will we live a better and more fruitful life, but we will be rewarded with eternity.

  21. Proverbs 5:21-23 (NLT)
    21 For the Lord sees clearly what a man does,
    examining every path he takes.
    22 An evil man is held captive by his own sins;
    they are ropes that catch and hold him.
    23 He will die for lack of self-control;
    he will be lost because of his great foolishness.

    The first person we must lead is ourselves. A real leader is an example to others of what to do and how to live. We become an ineffective witness when we tell others to do one thing but then behave another. Character is most important in the life of a believer. Without it we misrepresent Christ.

  22. We must be careful of the people we associate ourselves with. Not everybody who says they’re your friend has your best interest in mind. Jesus is a friend that sticks closer then a brother. Our relationship with Jesus should be strong, so that whatever the enemy tries to put between us it will not prevail.

  23. 4 But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.

    For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
    Hebrews 4:12

    If you ever want to know the intentions of the person you are talking to, compare their words to His word. If they do not add up use is Word guard yourself.

    A strange women maybe “sharp as a two-edged sword” but His Word is “sharper”

  24. “My son, pay attention to my wisdom, turn your ear to my words of insight, that you may maintain discretion and your lips may preserve knowledge.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭5:1-2‬ ‭NIV‬‬

    Pay close attention to the guidance and warnings of the elders in your life. They are wise in their years and can help you from making unwise choices. Appreciate their words.

  25. 1 My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:

    2 That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.

    God gives us the opportunity to seek him. Making the right choices and saying the right things aren’t always easy. God gives us wisdom it’s up to us to apply it to our lives. He gives us the opportunity to shine for him we just need to listen to his voice.

  26. Purity

    Verse 15

    Paul Kruger develops this section as an allegory consisting of a series of metaphors. He suggests that what is at issue is private versus common property. The images of the cistern, well, or fountain are used of a wife (e.g., Song 4:15) because she, like water, satisfies desires. Streams of water in the street would then mean sexual contact with a lewd woman. According to 7:12 she never stays home but is in the streets and is the property of many (P. Kruger, “Promiscuity and Marriage Fidelity? A Note on Prov 5:15–18,” JNSL 13 [1987]: 61–68).

    Interest analogy, a metaphor. This whole chapter is dedicated to the warning against promiscuity and adultery. Let us take this to heart, not only in action but in thought. Approve us Lord in your perfect will.

  27. “And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!” All have a lifetime, which some are longer than others. One that is wise will obey Godly instruction, whereas one that is unwise will obey anything but, or only what one feels is applicable. The one thing for certain, one will give an account to the Judge (Jesus) for one’s lifetime. Dear God, awaken me that I might hear your instruction and obey, while I have time; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In God we trust”. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  28. Valentin
    21 For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, and he pondereth all his goings.

    22 His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.

    23 He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

    This is the reason why it is so important to tell Everyone about Jesus. Just today, God spoke to a first time guest through this Blog. I don’t think most people understand why our pastor, this ministry, our church family is so important to me. The pastors, ministers and church families in past had damaged my perspective of what serving God really was. I was at a point where I thought, “this is what God called me too?” A less than mediocre Christian life, that was enough to make you feel good and purposeful, but also enough to get spewed out of God mouth! A almost got saved life style that was directing me straight to the pits of Hell. I was full of instruction but my lifestyle and actions denied it.

    I thank God for his immense mercy and love for me. And rejoice today for the work he is doing in the life’s of the back sliders in my life. Let us not refrain from praying for the backsliders.

    Claudette
    1 My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:
    2 That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.

    It’s amazing how important it is to have wisdom. I pray that I always remain and listen to the wisdom of my Pastor because once I step out of his vision and rebel I will not receive the anointing that God has given Pastor. When I am submissive and under the same vision and authority the anointing flows and blesses me. I am blessed to have a true man of God that cares and mourns for the souls. Jesus said to obey his commandments and that is to love others how he loved us. Hallelujah!!! Before I was born Jesus already knew me and loved me. Thank you Jesus for being my Father!!!

  29. 1 My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:

    2 That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.

    3 For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:

    We must be watchful of this strange woman because she can destroy a good man. We must be diligent in every way and guard our lives and our ministry because one mistake could ruin a lifetime of ministry.

  30. In this scripture, it is clear instructions of being faithful to your wife and a sound warning. Let your wife’s love ravish you and her breast satisfy you. Don’t be looking for another woman. It’s not worth the price……..

    “Stick with your wife”……………..

  31. 21 For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, and he pondereth all his goings.

    This verse shows God pondering the choices we make and things we choose to do. He sees all our ways and the reasons why we do what we do. But if we think about what we’re fixing to do beforehand, think it through before acting to what the end results could be for we act, we could save ourselves trouble in the end. This is when listening to the leading of the Lord through his word is of the greatest value…because we did this first.

  32. 15 Drink waters out of thine own cistern, running water from your own well

    In these verses Solomon urges us to follow after purity. The “strange woman,” on the other hand, says, “Stolen waters are sweet” (Pr 9:17). The same figure is mentioned in Song of Solomon 4:15, where a wife is compared to “a fountain of gardens, a well of living waters, and streams from Lebanon.” In Jeremiah 2:13 God compares Himself to a “fountain of living waters,” and complains that Israel had deserted Him, and hewed out for themselves “broken cisterns that can hold no water.” The grass is not greener on the other side. This passage in Proverbs has in like manner often been interpreted as an exhortation to drink deeply from the living waters of the Holy Spirit (John 7:37).

  33. 21 For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, and he pondereth all his goings.

    The Lord sees and knows all. He will warn from harm but the key like it was read throughout the chapter is to head to the voice.

  34. “Then you will show discernment, and your lips will express what you’ve learned.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭5:2‬ ‭NLT‬‬

    What I received from this scripture is that what’s in your heart will come out and what you have learned will come out as well, basically what you put in will come out weather it’s good or bad

  35. “For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, and he pondereth all his goings.”(Proverbs‬ ‭5:21‬ ‭KJV‬‬)

    God sees all of our filthy actions all though, he taketh an exact account of all our doing that we’ve done in our lives that he may recompense us from according to the kinds, degrees, numbers, and aggravation of all of our unchaste actions we’ve commited in our lives today. We pondereth all of his going, but he does not sees them, but takes notice of them and observes!!! In Jesus Name Amen !!!

  36. “That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge. For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭5:2-3‬ ‭KJV

    If you truly have wisdom then even though things seem sweet you will know not to partake of them. The wisdom and knowledge that comes from God is a discerning wisdom and knowledge. You are able to see past the enticements of the things around to recognize the true danger of the situation. I thank God for the wisdom and knowledge he gives and I pray from more everyday that I might have better discernment between his knowledge and understanding and that of the stranger that leads to death.

  37. 3 For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:

    4 But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.

    For us guys, stay away from women that try to seduce into things that are ungodly and lead to a life of sin. The bible says to flee that sort of temptation, because it’s not something we fight, but something we stay away from.

  38. Proverbs 4:20-27
    Heart is a term that includes mind, emotion and will. The decision is made in the inner being. But quickly shows forth th outer actions. There forth in outer actions. Luke 6:43 therefore the heart must be guarded carefully. Keeping the heart involves in what is said, v. 24 what is seen v. 25 and what is done vBulletin. 26,27
