Proverbs 6

1 My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger,

2 Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.

3 Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend.

4 Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.

5 Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:

7 Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,

8 Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.

9 How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?

10 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

11 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.

12 A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.

13 He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;

14 Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord.

15 Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.

16 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

20 My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

21 Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.

22 When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.

23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

24 To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.

25 Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.

26 For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adultress will hunt for the precious life.

27 Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?

28 Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?

29 So he that goeth in to his neighbour’s wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.

30 Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;

31 But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.

32 But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.

33 A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.

34 For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.

35 He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.

  1. Are you cheating??

I pray that I can treat people respect. I want to treat others as I want to be treated, this my goal everyday. I remember when pastor watts preached about men and woman’s reaction to other people we talk to besides our own husbands and wives. We should Not talk to another man or woman besides our own wives and husbands more than our own spouse. This teaching has stuck with me for 4 years. I see couples at family gatherings separate and spend more time with another couples spouse….I don’t agree with that. Sometimes I know we can’t help it, when we have to talk to doctors lawyers bosses ect. But we should love our spouses more than life itself and know where the bread is buttered at. At home.
My husband of 19 years always told me we need to take and only dance with the person we take to the dance. He’s 9 years older than me I figured he may know a little more than me.

Well just thankyou Lord for protecting me from harmful people since I recieved Your Spirit. I know about Your ways Lord. Forgive me for the Times I don’t follow them.
35/He will not accept any payment; no Of gifts will satisfy his anger. (Good News Version)

  2. Verse 23 MSG “For sound advice is a beacon, good teaching is a light, moral discipline is a life path.” Same verse AMP “For the commandment is a lamp, and the teaching [of the law] is light, And reproofs (rebukes) for discipline are the way of life,” Same verse CEV “The Law of the Lord is a lamp, and its teachings shine brightly. Correction and self-control will lead you through life.”

  3. My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother: Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck. When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee. For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life: (‭Proverbs‬ ‭6‬:‭20-23‬ KJV)

  4. iLove to eat More Word
    Proverbs 6:16 NLT
“There are six things the Lord hates—
    no, seven things he detests:
    17haughty eyes,
    a lying tongue,
    hands that kill the innocent,
    18a heart that plots evil,
feet that race to do wrong,
19a false witness who pours out lies,
a person who sows discord in a family.

Wow, the Word says that the Lord hates these things. That is a powerful word, “Hate”. God does not look lightly upon folks (even Church folks) that lie and cause division. Let us tell the truth even to our own hurt. Same gender marriage might be an abomination but so is a lying tongue.

  5. 20. My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

    Deuteronomy 5:16 KJV
Honour thy father and thy mother, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

  6. Adultery has a high cost, and it will wound your soul. Much wisdom and great instructions are given here. Don’t allow the enemy to destroy your home or marriage nor your right standing with God. Stay committed to your spouse and family, sure temptations are real but not worth the price. Remember, his grace is sufficient and his strength is perfected in weakness. So, when feel weak call upon the Lord.

    “Be Strong”………………..

  7. Proverbs 6:4
Give not sleep to thine eyes nor slumber to thine eyelids .

We must have sleep for we can have have a good day in Jesus name
    More Jesus. Amen

  8. 16 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

So, what are these things in plain English?

    Pride/Arrogance
    Liar 2x
    Murderer
    Evil planner
    Hunter of trouble
    Creator of conflict

  9. 16 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

We have all done these things at some point, but Thank You Jesus, we have had a chance to repent and have our sins washed by His blood. There are many people all around us needing to hear this same gospel, the one we teach and hear and read:
That Jesus came to earth, lived a perfect life, died for our sins, rose from the grave, and went back to prepare for us to join Him if we obey and love Him; Repent, be baptized in Jesus name for the remission of sins, and be filled with the Holy Ghost, walking in faith, teaching His word, reaching the lost, living a holy lifestyle.

Thank you Jesus, we are not who we once were!

  10. WARNING AGAINST CO-SIGNING

Relationships are shattered more often over money than anything else. GOD gave me revelation of this scripture many years ago. I had cosigned for 3 different individuals and all 3 went BAD.

I then sought the LORD and HIS WORD and found this passage.

    TLB
1 Son, if you endorse a note for someone you hardly know, guaranteeing his debt, you are in serious trouble. 2 You may have trapped yourself by your agreement. 3 Quick! Get out of it if you possibly can! Swallow your pride; don’t let embarrassment stand in the way. Go and beg to have your name erased. 4 Don’t put it off. Do it now. Don’t rest until you do.

I vowed to the LORD that I would not cosign for anyone. NO not even our children. (They all are buying their own home). Following wisdom and counsel could protect us from many snares.

I realized that if an individual does not have enough discipline to protect there own name and creditworthiness, why would they protect mine.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  11. WAKE UP, GET UP, WORK OR YOU WILL DIE POOR AND ALONE.

All my life I was taught to get up early, make my bed, and do something productive. My daddy in his wisdom also took me to a small insect not the ants (for everyone knows I don’t like ants) but to the bees. His explanation was the same, they work and work, and God rewards them and us with the sweetest things HONEY!!!!! As I drive around Ft. Worth you see able bodies, standing in corners and ask for money…. It is hard for me to watch today’s youth wanting to sleep until noon, not wanting to do anything outside the house, or worse I have seen grown young men that don’t even know how to drive a vehicle because they still got mom or dad taking them everywhere, paying their bills, and never have a care in the world nor a responsibility. We need strong, working young men, diligently seeking the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness for we are molding young women that stand by young men without no future. MAY THE LORD GIVE US WISDOM AND GUIDANCE AS WE TEACH OUR CHILDREN FOR A BETTER FUTURE. MAY THEIR HAND ALWAYS BE ABOUT THE BUSINESS OF OUR HEAVENLY FATHER AND MAY THEY ALWAYS BE WORKING FOR IDLE HANDS ARE THE DEVILS PLAY GROUND. IN JESUS NAME WE PRAY AMEN AND AMEN.

  12. The writer warns tHat no one can walk on hot coals with out his feet being.coached. the adulterer will arouse jealousy and will disgrace and destroy himself. While the prostitute treats you like an object and preys on your very life.

  13. 23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
24 To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.

    Psalms 119:105
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

    Hebrews 12:6
For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

    John 4:6
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Most people desire Jesus and not His instructions to “take up your cross and follow me. ” They desire the light but not the commandments “love thy neighbor as thyself.” They desire a New Life and not correction; “for whomsoever will lose his life for my sake will gain it. ”

Yet, the reality of it is, He is one and we lack understanding when we try to divide Him from the requirements He places on us. He is one and if we desire to be in Him and Him in us we must drink from the bitter cup and the cup of blessings.

    Revelation 10:10
And I took the little book out of the angel’s hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter.

  14. 27 Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?

Why go to a place where you know you will fail? Why test yourself?

  15. 21 Keep their words always in your heart. Tie them around your neck.
22 When you walk, their counsel will lead you. When you sleep, they will protect you. When you wake up, they will advise you.
23 For their command is a lamp and their instruction a light; their corrective discipline is the way to life. (NLT)

We must cherish the instruction not only of our parents, but our elders and those in authority over us. Chances are they’ve been right where you are now, fell into similar situations, and granted times have changed but it’s still our job to heed their warnings and apply the guidance as we can. If we choose life, we then also choose to allow discipline in our lives by those who have that authority. Don’t become angry at correction but be grateful for that friend, for that authority that loves you enough to not agree with you but be honest and protect you from whatever it is you face.

  16. Like an ant

We can learn a lesson from the ant. Work hard. Store up a part of the fruits of your labor for times of scarcity. May we approach all things: study, personal growth, labor, school, etc with tenacity.

  17. 6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:
7 Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,
8 Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.
9 How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
10 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
11 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.

  18. 16 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

All these actions are abominations to God…even what people call the little white lie. Verse 19 is the most hurtful in the church because the fallout from these actions could very well cause someone besides yourself to lose out with God. Stay humble, admit when we’re wrong, be honest and if you have a problem with someone, take it up with the Lord in prayer. Prayer mostly changes us so we can deal with the stresses and problems of life without casting blame on others.

  19. 1 My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger,

2 Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.

3 Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend.

Don’t let your friendship override principles of the Word of God, and common sense. Don’t become surety for a friend. This is a sure way to become offended and hurt by a friend.

Proverbs 18:19 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.

  20. Pro 6:10 — Pro 6:11
A little sleep, a little slumber,
a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a robber,
and want like an armed man.

This can also be in our spiritual lives, when we decide to take a little break for the things of God, praying, fasting, reading his word. When we do this it makes our spirit lazy and gives the enemy the upper hand

  21. 6Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!

Nowadays we see too many chiefs and not enough indians so to speak. Here Solomon points out that we can learn from this tiny insects the value of work. Here its ceaseless activity, and that of its own free-will, without being set on work or kept up to it by external authority (vs 7), is a lesson to the sluggard. They work and don’t even need to be micro-managed. I’ve never seen an ant just sit their and do nothing, no they are always on the move. The more the workers the bigger the harvest and the less the work. He says to consider its was and observe them and be wise. Learn from the ant and get to work.

  22. Proverbs 6:20-23 (NLT)
    20) My son, obey your father’s commands, and don’t neglect your mother’s instruction.
    21) Keep their words always in your heart. Tie them around your neck.
    22) When you walk, their counsel will lead you. When you sleep, they will protect you. When you wake up, they will advise you.
    23) For their commandment is a lamp and their instruction a light; their corrective discipline is the way to life.

So thankful for my parents who corrected me and taught me the right way to live.

  23. hese six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
The lord hates these things and if we want to be more like our king we need to hate them to. Love what God loves, and hate the things that God hates. Sin is sin

  24. Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest. How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.

Work. It has many benefits. If you work you shall eat. And when we eat we are thus the more strengthened. We are advised to look at and consider the ant. This is pretty straight forward in your natural lives. We stop doing things (working) and we begin to be negligent (sometimes just lazy) and not even take care of the things that God has blessed us to be stewards over. Soon enough, the that small leak becomes a major plumbing service or that grass and weeds start deteriorating your home…the value of your overall assets has declined and those same attitudes are transferred to your job and personal life. However could this be true of your spiritual man and life? Can we get “too relaxed” to let down on some spiritual work? Things of the kingdom have been about work. We cannot let the guard down on our spiritual life. There might be some areas that need some gardening and pruning. Or some leaks of attitude that need fixing. There might be a bible study to teach and a family to lead. Keep working in the Kingdom and in your spiritual man.

  25. Proverbs 6:7-8 (ESV Strong’s)
    7 Without having any chief,
    officer, or ruler,
8 she prepares her bread in summer
and gathers her food in harvest.

No chief, no ruler, and no officer has to tell the any what to do. She will prepare bread in the summer, and gather food in harvest.

The summer is the lazy season for many. Vacations are had, school break is in full swing, and others spend hours daily lounging around. Yet even in a place of leisure the ant still does its job.

I believe we should apply this spiritually. The word is the bread of life, and the harvest is soul winning. When things are easy, and we are in a summer season we need to prepare our bread daily. The word and our commitment to him cannot slip in our “down time.”

Second we need to be ready to gather the harvest. When it’s time to win souls we must be doing our part. The word tells us to pray the Lord of the harvest will send people into the fields. The word send means to forcefully eject into the field of harvest.

Let’s learn from the Ants and remember that the real vacation comes just over in the glory land.

  26. “My son, obey your father’s commands, and don’t neglect your mother’s instruction. Keep their words always in your heart. Tie them around your neck. When you walk, their counsel will lead you. When you sleep, they will protect you. When you wake up, they will advise you. For their command is a lamp and their instruction a light; their corrective discipline is the way to life.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭6:20-23‬ ‭NLT‬‬

We should all listen to our parents, elders, pastor and especially God because they don’t want to hurt us or drag us in the wrong way they want to help, encourage, guide and correct us so we can have understanding and stay away from the traps and painful things of this world. Don’t ignore because if you do….you will be gambling weather you should have a long road ahead of you or a short in order to learn. Because if we can’t obey our own parents or even pastor how would we be expected to obey God?

think before you do….and when hearing what our parents, elders, pastor and God have to say we need to make sure we are listening and not just letting it go in one ear and out the other.

  27. 16 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, 19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

(Proverbs 12:15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.)

Dear God (Judge), be a mirror unto me and let me see self, as you do, and help me to change, to be more like you; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In God we trust”. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  28. Glory!!!! Many people and churches are asleep focusing on the wrong things and not taking the stand to rise! Jesus is coming real soon and it hurts me I see people that know the gospel and the true Jesus live their lives as we owe something to Jesus!!! This is the time when we need to be in the streets, witnessing, and testifying that there is a God and that his name is Jesus!!!! I used to live very mediocre and think I had everything planned out but halleulujah for my God because He is the ruler of my life!!! 🙂

  29. 20 My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

21 Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.

22 When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.

23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

These are words my children will walk by! These are the things we should all be living by, we perish because if our lack of knowledge. The Wrod isn’t tattooed on our heart, or tongue. We don’t know how to pray because of our lack of knowledge of his word.

The lives of so many people around us are at stake. There are firing without Christ because of our silence. Most of the time we stay quiet because we are struggling too. If we could see our spirits in a mirror, it would be a anorexic, fragile, and pale reflection of us.

Verse 21 says “CONTINUALLY”! Not just once, or twice or when ever we are in trouble or lonely but as important as the air that we breathe! Stop playing church, and let’s get busy for God and reach this city.

  30. 10 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

11 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.

When are in the kingdom of God, he does not want us to then relax after we are saved and pretend we are on vacation, he wants to put us to work. Because there are lost souls that need to be reached and people that need to hear the word of God. Both in the kingdom of God and in our everyday lives we need to stave off laziness, it prevents us from reaching our full potential in God.

  31. 23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life: (Proverbs 6:23 KJV)

For the commandment is a lamp and the lord is my light shines upon my feet and in my direction. The law of God is a lamp or candle to see to work by and to walk by he enlightens our eyes so we can see were he directs us and our feet and makes our working more pleasant, and walking more comfortable, a man knows not rightly what to do or where we should walk or we’re we are walking and the law is light that makes things clearer for us to be able to see what’s in our paths what is right and what is wrong it enlightens our eyes to understand were we stand as people to see both of our sin and duty and it directs us to avoid things that surround us!!! In Jesus Name Amen!!!!!

  32. Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: (‭Proverbs‬ ‭6‬:‭6‬ KJV)

Sloth sneakers up on people. Someone says man I’m tired, let me rest and then poof, they are pulling away from everything. As they pull away they begin to leave everything behind. They take their rest and they slip away into restating all the time. –consider the ant. Ants are always going. Always moving. Always saving. They go and go until it is too cold. When the weather changes they huddle in groups underground where the mass of bodies and the resivior of food saves them all. The reason they are alive is vac use they WORK and have UNITY.

  33. Proverbs 6:1-5
The warning is against being held accountable for another person’s loan. Putting up security is often mentioned in Proverbs. Two strong expressions are used to encourage the release of a person who has become sutery for a friend. Prov. 6:3 Humble yourself ( trample upon yourself) suggests it is better, if necessary, to be humiliated in older to.secure realease from a pledge. ” plead” ( urge with troublesome persistence) advises strong And continues argument until your neighbor is willing to release you..
