Proverbs 9

9 Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:

2 She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table.

3 She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city,

4 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,

5 Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.

6 Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.

7 He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot.

8 Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.

9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

11 For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.

12 If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.

13 A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing.

14 For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city,

15 To call passengers who go right on their ways:

16 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,

17 Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.

18 But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.

  1. Proverbs 9:18
But he does not know that the dead are there, that her guest are in the depths of he’ll.

Many today have accepted this erroneous viewpoint that something gained unjustly and secretly is better. Such a life of folly runs contrary to God’s plan of wisdom and inevitably will end in death.

  2. WISDOM BUILDS

9 Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:

To BUILD means to create and construct. As we increase in WISDOM we naturally BUILD our character, integrity and influence.

    WISDOM does WORK.

WISDOM hath hewn out. The word “HEWN” means to cut out or dig out. WISDOM WORKS through challenges and problems to build a testimony and a harbor for the weak and wounded. WISDOM is secure and stable. 7 represents completion, WISDOM continues to BUILD (dig it out and work it out) until it is COMPLETE.

  3. 16 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,
17 Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.
18 But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.

Today there are many preachers who are watering sown the Gospel, spreading “stolen waters”, claiming that they are teaching truth.these are sending people straight to hell. It is up to us to do our part and spread truth to all who are gurney and hurting.

Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:

This scripture is reminding me of the new construction at 10264 Westpoint. It takes a lot of wisdom and knowledge to build a building. I think the most important step in the process is to have a good plan. Wisdom in previous verses was crying out to those who walk by seeking those who really wanted a plan for their lives. In this verse wisdom finally builds. Wow, construction is a process and praise God he is still working on me.

  5. 1 Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:
2 She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table.
3 She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city,
4 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,
5 Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.
6 Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.
7 He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot.

The first thing we must look at here is the “house”. The wise person is building a house. The significance of 7 is to convey the sufficiency of this house as full in size and fit for a banquet, number 7 is also the number of completion.
Hebrews 3:6 “But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.”

    WISDOM👆🏻

When you witness to someone about the Scriptures trying to get them saved and they ridicule you for it and want to argue about it, it is best not to argue.  Sometimes their guilt becomes so great, that they might tell lies and do you harm. This does not mean that we are to stop trying to help people come to the Lord; but it does mean if we see they are angered by our trying to help them, just go on and leave them alone. There is a time and place for everything, and a time to speak and a time to be quiet .

  6. 9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

To fear God is wise. Let us be wiser than any other generation.

  7. Proverbs 9:8-9 (ESV Strong’s)
    8 Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you;
reprove a wise man, and he will love you.
    9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser;
teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.

    Proverbs 9:8-9 (Message)
    8 So don’t waste your time on a scoffer;
all you’ll get for your pains is abuse.
But if you correct those who care about life,
that’s different—they’ll love you for it!
    9 Save your breath for the wise—they’ll be wiser for it;
tell good people what you know—they’ll profit from it.

    What is your foundation?

There is a principle in the bible that helps us understand why things typically go a certain way in our lives. The seed was down of different types of soil. The wise and foolish man built their houses on different foundations. When Jesus comes back those who are wise will be wise still, and those foolish will be foolish still.

Our foundation determines our reception. If we choose to remain in carnality then when spiritual things of God come they will not be understood. If we are consistent with our foundational blocks of bible reading, fasting, and prayer we will receive from God when the time is ready.

The word says he instant in season and out of season. Jesus is coming for a bride that has prepared herself. Don’t knock the preparation periods in your life. They are setting you up for greatness in God.

  8. 9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

In this passage of the need to get wisdom, it also tells us the use of it. Wisdom doesn’t boast, and those with it should not be proud boasters. Wisdom is learning and understanding and it should be given or taught. In getting his wisdom, God also multiplies our days giving us more time to impart what we have received to others. If we will listen and be taught, our Pastor will impart the wisdom he receives from the Lord. Reading the word and following the leading of the Lord imparts wisdom. Then life itself teaches us wisdom even when we learn it the hard way!

  9. 1. Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:

A wise woman will build her house on the word of the Lord not on what the world says!!

  10. “Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭9:1‬ ‭KJV‬‬
    http://bible.com/1/pro.9.1.kjv

Interesting little fact that immediately came to mind. This verse reminded me of the seven bibles that were put on the foundation of our new church building… 7 pillars God has all wisdom and knowledge and the beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord.

  11. WISDOM: One of the most powerful attributes of God!
Look at this the way the wise man did.
Rebuke a wise man and he will become wiser. Most people you rebuke because they are foolish will hate you. There are not many people in the world that are wise enough to know the people that are trying to help them. Most people follow those that will lead them astray, you need clear directions that only come from wise men. Read verses 14 and 15 very careful and you will see why and how men are led astray.
My prayer every day is God give me the wisdom I need today to follow close to you Amen.

  12. 8 Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.

The attitude of the scorner is such that any small rebuke just irritates them, but it is the wise man who can take a rebuke, great or small and analyze the good in it and come out a much better individual.

  13. 7 Anyone who rebukes a mocker will get an insult in return.
Anyone who corrects the wicked will get hurt.

This is such a true statement. The unbeliever will insult and ridicule you for your belief in the bible. They’ll say “I cant believe you put your faith in the bible”. But thats okay, I’m always ready with a gentle and wise response.

  14. 17 Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.

18 But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.

Even when we have become followers of Christ, I’m sure there has been some point in our of lives where had some secret sin, something that secretly indulged in while noone else was looking. It doesn’t have to be as a big as stealing or lying, it could be enjoying music with crude or perverted lyrics in the comfort of your home. Or using curse words while you are in front of your non Christian friends, or enjoying those magazines or books that you know as a Christian you shouldn’t be looking at or reading.

But God knows all and sees all things, we may realize that, but we think it’s just a little sin or that God isn’t gonna punish for that little thing. But every sin leads to the gate of hell, and you need to repent and turn away from every sin you know you are doing in your life but you just don’t want to let go of. God isn’t gonna discrimanate against the people who have murdered and the people who are rebellious, they’ll all go to the same place. Because it wasn’t God’s will and choice to sin, it’s our choice. When we choose sin, we also choose to be away from God. And God can’t help us if we don’t make the choice to follow him.

  15. v10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom : and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

As people of GOD we are to walk in JESUS’ righteous steps according to HIS wisdom.

    MORE of GOD’S wisdom!!!

  16. 8 Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.

9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

The ability to be taught or willingness to listen to someone’s else is the way the wise become wiser. We need good friends around us to bounce things off of. When everyone puts their wisdom together we all become wiser.

  17. 9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
Live an holy life according to the bible. Dont turn unto this world for wisdom. Give God the glory for the wisdom he did give you and continues to give you.

  18. When you’re able to take instructions and not get upset, then you are a wise person. Don’t be fooled by others who are not able to take wise counsel. This is how we grow in Christ, listening to wise counsel and moving in the right direction.

  19. 8 Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.

9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

Wisdom means growth. A wise person stays teachable. You see a teacher instructs, corrects, tests, and then challenge. She instructs you on how to do something, works with you and corrects the things that need to be corrected, then she stands back and gives you a test to see of you retained the information. Lastly she challenged you to apply it to your life and show someone else.

  20. In this scripture, it is clearly a parable that is to me indicating to eat and drink of Jesus Christ, for he is the bread of life, and we are to eat and drink of him. The Word of God is the bread, and Jesus promised us LIFE and to have more abundantly. So, we must eat of him, the word, the bread, the life, “WISDOM”. So, we must follow his voice, and eat his bread, and “FOLLOW”.

5 Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.

6 Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding

“Listen for him, and study his WORD”……………………………………………………..

  21. “If you are wise, your wisdom will reward you; if you are a mocker, you alone will suffer.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭9:12‬ ‭NIV

Wisdom and understanding will benefit you in life whereas being foolish and purposely being “simple” will hold you back from a better life. Hard work pays off in the end!

  22. “Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding”. The deceiver (satan) is doing all he can to keep one from understanding; for once life is over there is no more time. To listen to someone (preacher/teacher/fill in the blank…) that is not in the whole book (God’s Word), is to listen to a deceiver. Dear God, shake me that I forsake the foolish; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In God we trust”. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  23. The House That Wisdom Builds

1 Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:

2 She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table.

11 For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.

When our lives are built through wisdom, not only does this bless us practically (length of days through wise decisions,) but it opens us to enjoy to fullness of what God desires for each of those days. Wisdom does not build an empty house that looks good outside but inside is barren and lifeless; wisdom builds a house that is furnished and full of vibrancy and the richness of what life here on earth can be. Wisdom opens our eyes to enjoy things of creation we might otherwise pass by (the sunrise, spring flowers, a quiet lake, etc), it helps us to love those around us more deeply and see them with fresh appreciation, it allows us to see through spiritual eyes all the ways God’s love shines through in His blessings, it is the way we find contentment in simple pleasures and joy in living in righteousness even when there are outward struggles or persecution.

    Proverbs 2:6-8
6 For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

7 He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.

8 He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.

  24. 6. Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.

    11. For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.

The Word shows over and over where the wicked and foolish usually have a shorter lifespan!

    Proverbs 10:
    25. As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.

    27. The fear of the Lord prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.

  25. When wisdom cuts out a place in your life, give it a place to stay. We should ask for understanding with that wisdom. It is with wisdom and understanding that we are able to have influence in the sight of others.

  26. Verse 10 AMP “The [reverent] fear of the Lord [that is, worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome] is the beginning and the preeminent part of wisdom [its starting point and its essence], And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding and spiritual insight.”

This reminded me of our Sunday School memory verse, Proverbs 1:7 KJV “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Same verse in the MSG “Start with God—the first step in learning is bowing down to God; only fools thumb their noses at such wisdom and learning.”

  27. 8 So don’t bother correcting mockers;
    they will only hate you.
    But correct the wise,
and they will love you. (NLT)

Do you love correction? Or do you hate it?
The word says its wise to love correction.

  28. Christ Jesus our source of Wisdom, has “builded His house” by taking man’s flesh, creating for Himself a “temple of the Holy Ghost” (Jhn 2:19); and also by building for Himself a “spiritual house” (1Pe 2:5), “the house of God, which is the church of the living God” (1Tim 3:15).
She hath hewn out her seven pillars.—Suggestive of the sevenfold gifts of the Spirit (Isa11:2 Rev1:4), typified by the seven-branched candlestick of the Tabernacle (Ex 25:37). There is an order to everything God does. From the building of His temple and rebuilding it in three days, to the receiving the gift of His Holy Ghost. Afterward he commissioned his disciples to go out and reach the world for the Gospel. God is sending us out just like the servants in Matt 23 to call them that were invited to the wedding to come. Even if they say no it’s okay. Lets go!

  29. Reprove !!!! 8. Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee. Ps. 141 : 5 9. Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning. 10. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: and thy glory above all the earth;
