Proverbs 12

1 Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish.

2 A good man obtaineth favour of the Lord: but a man of wicked devices will he condemn.

3 A man shall not be established by wickedness: but the root of the righteous shall not be moved.

4 A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.

5 The thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels of the wicked are deceit.

6 The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood: but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.

7 The wicked are overthrown, and are not: but the house of the righteous shall stand.

8 A man shall be commended according to his wisdom: but he that is of a perverse heart shall be despised.

9 He that is despised, and hath a servant, is better than he that honoureth himself, and lacketh bread.

10 A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.

11 He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain persons is void of understanding.

12 The wicked desireth the net of evil men: but the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit.

13 The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: but the just shall come out of trouble.

14 A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompence of a man’s hands shall be rendered unto him.

15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.

16 A fool’s wrath is presently known: but a prudent man covereth shame.

17 He that speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness: but a false witness deceit.

18 There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.

19 The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.

20 Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellors of peace is joy.

21 There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief.

22 Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight.

23 A prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness.

24 The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.

25 Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.

26 The righteous is more excellent than his neighbour: but the way of the wicked seduceth them.

27 The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious.

28 In the way of righteousness is life: and in the pathway thereof there is no death.

  1. Righteousness

I love the last verse of this chapter. It explains everything. The pathw ay of the righteous is life…
I thankyou Lord that we have a choice to live right or wrong. But I choose to live right in the sight of God…so I can have life for all eternally. I can be with Jesus one day. He is an awesome God. We can obey Him or not. It’s really easy to live righteous obey His Word, love Him, and others and repent our sins to HIm. (ACTS 2:38).

  2. Verse 1 MSG “If you love learning, you love the discipline that goes with it—how shortsighted to refuse correction!” Same verse AMP “Whoever loves instruction and discipline loves knowledge, But he who hates reproof and correction is stupid.” And there you go….plain and simple.

Verses 24-26 CEV “Work hard, and you will be a leader; be lazy, and you will end up a slave. Worry is a heavy burden, but a kind word always brings cheer. You are better off to do right, than to lose your way by doing wrong.”

  3. 11. A hard worker has plenty of food, but a person who chases fantasies has no sense.

    24. Work hard and become a leader; be lazy and become a slave.

    27. Lazy people don’t even cook the game they catch, but the diligent make use of everything they find. NLT

If we are diligent hard workers, we become leaders with plenty to eat; if we are lazy fantasy chasers, we become hungry slaves with no sense…easy choice for me, so off to work I go. Have a blessed day!

  4. Fools are headstrong and do what they like; wise people take advice. Fools have short fuses and explode all too quickly; the prudent quietly shrug off insults. (‭Proverbs‬ ‭12‬:‭15-16‬ MSG)

  5. iLove to eat More Word

Proverbs 12:10-11 NLT The godly care for their animals, but the wicked are always cruel. (11) A hard worker has plenty of food, but a person who chases fantasies has no sense.

For all those out there that like to run over the wild beasts of the earth and kick your dogs, we have a verse for you. Be nice to your animals and work hard!

  6. A Sunday School Lesson I never Forgot.

4 A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.

Long time ago I came to TX for first time to spend Thanks Giving with my Sis Sue Boyd and her family. She took us to the church she was going to at that time. One of the best time at that church was when they separated the women from the men for Sunday School, then the first Lady taught the women the Sunday School Lesson, BE A HAVEN TO YOUR HUSBAND. She explained to us that husbands already spend too much time in the world at work, and that when they come home it should be a place of Peace, Love, and Understanding. That way, they have a refuge to come to, not a hell. The hell was described as nagging wife, always argumentative, spending too much so he has to break his back working more, and strife worker. If you did the complete opposite YOUR HUSBAND WAS GOING TO FEEL AT PEACE, AND ALWAYS RUN TO HIS REFUGE WHEN HE NEEDED IT THE MOST. Since them that has been what I have tried to do for him. No matter what have happened during the day, I pray that as soon as he walks through the door, he finds a happy wife, a loving wife, an understanding wife, that can sympathize with his tiredness, that will listen to how good or how ugly was his day, and nod in agreement even if she does not understand. A place where he can find REST physically and spiritually. Some may criticize my submission but they do not understand the blessing involve in submitting. I love my husband with all my heart and he loves me the same way. I am GREATLY BLESSED. THANK YOU JESUS FOR ALL YOU HAVE GIVEN ME EVEN WHEN I WAS NOT WORTHY OF IT. IN JESUS NAME AMEN.

  7. The right way!
28 In the way of righteousness is life: and in the pathway thereof there is no death.

The way of righteousness is always the right way. It is the way of life and the way to eternal life. We cannot live a life of wickedness and expect to have eternal life.

  8. “Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge, But he who hates correction is stupid.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭12:1‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

one of Jesse Woodrow’s favorite saying is “knowledge is power” I believe in that saying because it comes with wisdom and understanding. If we know more then we have more power of all our enemies.

  9. 1 To learn, you must love discipline; it is stupid to hate correction. (NLT)

We must love discipline if we want to learn! Intently listen to the words of elders in your life and be smart by learning from what they teach, otherwise you’ll waste your time disobeying and learn the lesson the hard way.

  10. MORE INTEGRITY

17 He that speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness: but a false witness deceit.

Life in its simplest form is a display and representation of the KINGDOM and GLORY of GOD. As we yield ourselves to the WILL of GOD we become instruments in HIS hand, vessels in HIS house.

The very simple principal identified here is easily revealed as we speak the truth and not a lie. The WORD of GOD is very clear in regards to speaking the TRUTH vs LIE.

22 Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight.

JESUS is GOD and HE is TRUTH. Therefore the simple principle of speaking TRUTH is speaking in the image of GOD. For this reason “Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD”.

Lying lips represent what GOD is not. Lying lips distort the character of man who is made in the image of GOD.

    Speak TRUTH and live!

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  11. A person who loves instruction grows into a very intelligent being. I believe part of the instruction meant here is instruction in right living. We are eager to learn God’s ways and we quickly see sins in our life and repent. The greatest knowledge that we can have is to know God and his Word.

The word brutish or stupid means like a beast that does not accumulate knowledge .

When you see a righteous man, it is like looking at a giant oak tree with deep, deep roots.

We will not be easily moved even though the winds of false doctrine are strong.

The familiar image is of the righteous being firm like a flourishing tree.

Even in the parable of the sowing of the seed in the 8th chapter of Luke, Jesus tells us the seed that fell on good ground had good roots and brought forth much fruit.

Read in Luke 8 beginning with the 5th verse through verse 18. You know the wicked man doesn’t even bother to see the seed at all.

We need to be knowledgeable and read are bibles and do the will of God .

  12. A reoccurring theme in Proverbs is lying and the results associated with lying. Some people are good at it others not so much. Some people would rather lie than tell the truth. I know people in each of these categories. I have lied also. However, it has been some time ago and I cannot remember the circumstances. Where do we learn to lie?

Children lie nearly as soon as they can communicate. Parents generally do not teach them to lie. So, where do we learn it? I remember a movie from years ago called the invention of lying. The premise of this movie was the world did not lie; at all. Every person told the truth and in some cases there was no filter on what needed to be said; things were just said. This man asked his girlfriend why she was leaving him and she told him she found someone with better looks. A coworker asked this fellow where he had been for the past few days he said he was in the bed crying.

Later in the movie the main character decided to tell a lie. Everyone believed him. He continued to lie and became a popular person due to telling people what they wanted to hear instead of the truth. We lie because it works. Lying avoids punishment, embarrassment and confrontation – sometimes. When we tell the truth, we don’t have to remember what was said to whom. We won’t accidentally contradict ourselves. We earn the reputation as an honest person. If we are a manager, our staff members tell each other, “Our boss might be more honest about your work than you sometimes want to hear, but it’s better to know the truth.” People follow our example and are more truthful to us. Our stress level drops and we sleep better, eat better and look better.

  13. Proverbs 12:3 (MSG)
“You can’t find firm footing in a swamp, but life rooted in God stands firm.”

    Colossians 2:6-7
“As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.”

Be rooted and built up in God and established in the faith, and ye shall stand.

  14. “The righteous should choose his friends carefully, For the way of the wicked leads them astray.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭12:26‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Be carful in who you let become close to you. For if our friends are always speaking evil of others how do we expect them not to speak evil of us as well? If our friends are always doing evil how do we expect them to bring us closer to God instead of astray? We are blessed at Pofw to be surrounded by friends that love and care about us, and will lead us to God not astray!!

  15. 28 In the way of righteousness is life: and in the pathway thereof there is no death.

The last verse seems to sum it all up: there is an escape for the righteous, there is forgiveness and deliverance. We strive for perfection knowing we are not perfect and thankfully his mercy endureth forever.

  16. 20 Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellors of peace is joy.

    Want Peace and Joy?

    Romans 15:13
Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

  17. 1 Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish.

There is no doubt that instruction doesn’t come easy, it’s wise to examine ourselves and make changes that line up with the will of God. It’s not wise to oversee instruction and later face corruption that could of been avoided. The flesh is weak but we can overcome anything through Christ who strengthens us. I seek you Lord.

  18. 15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.

Listen to those that have the rule over you. In most cases those that are above you are there for a reason. A leader will pull up to help others, and not pull out from underneath those that are above him. A leader leads at all times.

  19. Lips 19. The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment. 22. Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight. Prov. 6 : 17

  20. Proverbs 12:25
Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down,
but a good word makes him glad.

Living in a world where there is bills to be paid, deadlines at work and taking care of our families can bring a lot stress and anxiety to our heart and mind. That is why we need to be in accord with the Spirit not only will His Spirit deliver us for the anxiety but it will also give us fruits that the Spirit produces such as love, joy, peace…. having these in us will also produce positive words for someone else that is going through similar situations.

  21. Proverbs 12:18 (Modern English Version)
18 There is one who speaks like the piercings of a sword,
but the tongue of the wise is health.

Life and death is in the power of the tongue. Are we piercing people with our words or are we giving health. We can speak life or death. We will be held accountable for what choice we make.

  22. 25 Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad

How good does a good encouraging word do for you. This world is surrounded by harsh events and speaks quite often of bad and evil. Encouraging some one not only does that person good but the one doing the uplifting as well.

  23. 8A sensible person wins admiration,
but a warped mind is despised.

How true this is, someone who speaks the truth and is humble, that person receives respect. The one who speaks loudly and with pride, won’t receive respect.

  24. “Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish”. Instruction is not always easy, however if it is from God (Jesus) then it is right. Dear God, let me be wise enough to acknowledge and heed your instruction; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In God we trust”. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  25. The one who loves discipline loves knowledge,
but the one who hates reproof is stupid.

Ba’ar -> stupid. Normally used for a dumb animal in an intellectual sense. Here it describes the morals of a fool who refused to learn by correction. They are like a dumb animal. The term is used as an implied comparison.

  26. 1 Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish.
In the kingdom we must be willing to accept reproof and correction. We must cleave to instruction and let God make us what he wants us to be. God is not interested in how well we can lead until he sees how well we are willing to follow. One we can prove we can follow he will allow us the opportunity to lead. We must not be “brutish”

  27. Proverbs 12:25 Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop : but a good word maketh it glad.

A good word is a kind word that cheers the heart.

Isaiah 50:4 The Lord God hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.

  28. “The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭12:18‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Think before you say, think before you do. Your words can aid an individual or cause them further pain and destruction.

  29. “To learn, you must love discipline; it is stupid to hate correction.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭12:1‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The whole chapter comes down to the very first scripture….if you allow correction to come into your life then you will continue towards Gods will, but if you push away correction then you allow all of the lying, stealing, rebellion etc. to come into your life….we all need correction otherwise God wouldn’t have given us a bible to help guide us or even a pastor. So don’t see correction as someone coming down on you…they are helping you in probably more ways than we could even imagine. Especially listening to our elders is a big one…they have gone through a lot more things than we can even think or know of so it would be wise to listen. Don’t just hear….listen and learn.

  30. Hard work pays off!

14 A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompence of a man’s hands shall be rendered unto him.

Work is a good four letter word. We have to teach our children to work hard and pray hard. Bishop Foster says to work as if it all depends on you and pray as if it all depends on God. If we do those two things we will be successful in whatever we do.

  31. “What the wicked construct finally falls into ruin, while the roots of the righteous give life, and more life.”

    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭12:12‬ ‭MSG‬‬

In this scripture we see another benefit of living a righteous life. We will be givers of life and more life.

  32. 18 There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.

The tongue, such an unruly member of our body is what the Lord used to bridle when we are filled with the Spirit of God, and He dwells within us. Therefore, what is spoken from us should be words of wisdom, knowledge, encouragement and life. We must not allow our tongue to be a weapon to destroy but a tool to build.

  33. 22 Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight.

People are quick to state that homosexuality is an abomination and that is true because it is the word of God but we should not be quick to forget that the Lord feels the same about lying lips that he does about homosexuality

  34. v12 The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood: but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.

I love my Holy Ghost for it helps us to control the use of our tongues and use it to Bless our GREAT GOD and others.
    MORE HOLY GHOST !!!

  35. You know the saying “Honesty is the best policy”, and is one the simple truths. Our tongue or mouth needs a Holy Ghost mouthwash with the blood of Jesus, Amen.

19 The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.

    “Hold that tongue”……………………

  36. 15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that harkeneth to counsel is wise.

Every one has there own standard. Any thing measured away from Gods word is only man righteous. Drug dealers think it’s right to sell drugs to kids or pregnant women because that is the only form of income they have to feed there families but is it right? Drug addicts believe is right to get high because it’s the only thing that could keep them feeling better about themselves. How about a anorexic that says it good to throw up because it’s not healthy to be over weight.

What ever the excuse, if we are not congruent to the scriptures there is nothing we can do to be righteous before God. Let us be to a heavenly standard.

  37. 9 He that is despised, and hath a servant, is better than he that honoureth himself, and lacketh bread.

Typically when it is mentioned “He who men despise”, or who is “lowly” in his own eyes (like 1 Sam 18:23), if he has a slave then he is one step above absolute poverty, and has some one to supply his needs, he is better off than the man who boasts of rank or descent and has nothing to eat. Contentment or mediocrity is better than boastful poverty. Their are humble and have little and those who boast and have nothing. We could take it one step further and say it would be better to be a disciple who has little wisdom of the Word of God (bread of life) and have fruit to show from it, than to be a long term person in ministry and povershed and bankrupt spiritually of the Word and lack the fruit their of.

  38. 1 Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish.

God loves us all, and because he does, that means he gives us correction a like a father would give to his child. Sometimes it’s easy for us to be given correction from God, but when that correction is given in the form of other people that in authority over you, sometimes people aren’t as willing to listen.

But when we listen to the people that are over us, we receive knowledge when we listen to their instruction. And when we reject their instruction, all we do is make ourselves more foolish and more rebellious. We need to be careful about not being so easily offended by other people in our lives that our trying to help us and let them teach us in our lives.
