Proverbs 17

1 Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of sacrifices with strife.

2 A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causeth shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren.

3 The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the Lord trieth the hearts.

4 A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips; and a liar giveth ear to a naughty tongue.

5 Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker: and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.

6 Children’s children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.

7 Excellent speech becometh not a fool: much less do lying lips a prince.

8 A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it: whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth.

9 He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.

10 A reproof entereth more into a wise man than an hundred stripes into a fool.

11 An evil man seeketh only rebellion: therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.

12 Let a bear robbed of her whelps meet a man, rather than a fool in his folly.

13 Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.

14 The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water: therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with.

15 He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the Lord.

16 Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing he hath no heart to it?

17 A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

18 A man void of understanding striketh hands, and becometh surety in the presence of his friend.

19 He loveth transgression that loveth strife: and he that exalteth his gate seeketh destruction.

20 He that hath a froward heart findeth no good: and he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into mischief.

21 He that begetteth a fool doeth it to his sorrow: and the father of a fool hath no joy.

22 A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

23 A wicked man taketh a gift out of the bosom to pervert the ways of judgment.

24 Wisdom is before him that hath understanding; but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth.

25 A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bare him.

26 Also to punish the just is not good, nor to strike princes for equity.

27 He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.

28 Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.

  1. Proverbs 17:22
A merry heart doeth good like a medicine but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

We don’t need to have sad broken hearts we need to have happy and joy hearts
for Jesus Christ is worthy of all the glory . More Jesus and More Joy Amen

  2. 10. A quiet rebuke to a person of good sense does more than a whack on the head of a fool. MSG

I would recommend to give them the benefit of the doubt at first and start with a quiet rebuke; but if that doesn’t work…

  3. Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therein, than a house full of sacrifice and strife.
Just because you have everything you need and some of what you want, it doesn’t guarantee that you’ll be happy. Usually, the more stuff you have, the less happy you are. When you live a humble life you are easily pleased and find peace in the things that truly matter.

  4. The Peace of the Lord

1 Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of sacrifices with strife.

I have seen the wealthy live in hell. Finish in a bitter divorce and child custody battle. At the worse committing suicide; for money does not bring happiness .
The only way to have a peaceful, loving home, and full of His Joy is by GIVING!!!! Yes, giving of your talent, time and treasures. Tithe, offering, obedience brings unspeakable JOY!!!! God wants us to prosper, to be blesses, and live in joy but as everything there is certain rules that we must follow to achieve that JOY. May the Lord Jesus Christ show us how to live in prosperity and joy!! And may He keep us in prosperity and may we never forget how to stay in Prosperity. In Jesus Name AMEN

  5. MORE UNDERSTANDING

24 Wisdom is before him that hath understanding; but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth.

Understanding is displayed by wisdom. To establish that we have understanding, we position ourselves to exercise wisdom in our lives. By wisdom we apply knowledge in a situation. As we do what we know to be correct we find ourselves in position to find favor with GOD.

Keeping our eyes on JESUS is the key to thinking, walking and living in the wisdom of GOD.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  6. Proverbs 17:15 (KJV Strong’s)
15 He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just,
even they both are abomination to the Lord.

I believe if we tune our ears to hear we would find the spirit of God pleading with humanity in this hour. Our society has called good evil, and evil good. Judgment will come to this land but remember the story of Abraham and Lot.

When the Angels were prepared to unleash fire and brimstone on the inhabitants of the plains of Sodom and Gomorrah Abraham pleaded with God.

Far be it from you to destroy the righteous with the wicked. Would you spare the city for 50,40,30,20,10 righteous people?

I believe today more than ever God wants us to use the tools of intercession and supplication to stand in the gap for our nation. May the church arise in this hour and those of truth fight against the enemy of our souls.

The Lord is ready to save and give mercy to those who repent.

  7. iLove to eat More Word

Proverbs 27:1 NLT Don’t brag about tomorrow, since you don’t know what the day will bring.

Amen, this is a very true proverb as we can all agree. Each and everyone of us have gone through a situation in which we have said, “Tomorrow we will do such and such.” We really shouldn’t brag about something that can change so easily.

James 4:13-16 NLT Look here, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.” (14) How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. (15) What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.” (16) Otherwise you are boasting about your own plans, and all such boasting is evil.

  8. 22 A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

Don’t worry. Be happy. There have been many times in my life that a good laugh just made me feel better. Be happy. God has made us to be glad.

  9. Material items do not bring happiness or make us feel good like a friends words of encouragement and laughter. A good prayer meeting in our quiet place merries the soul.

  10. “It is safer to meet a bear robbed of her cubs than to confront a fool caught in foolishness. If you repay good with evil, evil will never leave your house.

A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭17:12-13, 22‬ ‭NLT‬‬

These three scriptures really popped out to me they all made me just think, “wow.” No other words. However, Gods word is true and it is better to deal with a wild animal then deal with sin…..because we can recover from the physical animal….but it’s another to deal with the spiritual animal in people who like to jump on their preys and make it where there’s no escape. We need to watch who we talk or hang out with….stay close with God.

The second one was intense….allowing to pay good for evil and in doing that
Allows the evil to stay….we need to watch on the things we do or say. We don’t need anything evil to be in our lives because it’s a poison that will slowly kill. All we need is God!

The last one was understandable at the beginning…”a cheerful heart is good medicine..” That is very true, anytime I laughed at something or someone did I felt really good. But what interested me and I didn’t know was that if we have a broken spirit that it drains our strength. So before we try and do anything it’s important that we fix and allow God to work on ourselves. Because when your hurt you don’t want to go running into the battle field, you first need to gain your strength and heal up to be able to fight. And everyday is a fight against sin and the enemy, that’s why we must die daily and get filled with Gods Spirit.

  11. 21It is painful to be the parent of a fool;
there is no joy for the father of a rebel.

I thank the Lord for the two great daughters we have. Gives us joy they have chosen to follow the Lord to the best of their abilities.

  12. 5 Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker: and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.
We must remember to be kind to the poor and show love to everyone regardless of social status or income level. God looks at them the same because they are his creation. The poor and needy need are help and support and if you do so God will bless you with enough money to help them.

  13. 17 A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

It doesn’t say to love your friend when you feel like it or when they are being nice to you, but to be a friend at ALL times. In the good or bad, in the times you love or in the times they drive you crazy, you still need to love them!

  14. “He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the Lord.” To determine the wicked and the just, one need only observe their; works, words, or actions (good or bad, truthful or untruthful, helpful or harmful). Dear God, bless the just; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In GOD we trust”. “One Nation under GOD, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all”. What a mighty GOD we serve! Thank GOD for his word. GOD bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in JESUS name, Amen!

  15. If you can’t handle the heat get out of the kitchen.

3 The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the Lord trieth the hearts.

This won’t work with your walk with God. God lets us see and go through situations to bring our hearts to a place of understanding. If you skip the fire or trial all together then you end up not finished. God wants to finish the work that he starts in us. It would be like putting all the ingredenice in a pan for a cake but serving it to your guests without cooking it.

  16. Do you fill like a pot on the potters wheel or have you been in the furnace? We are going to be tried by who? Our hearts?

3 The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the Lord trieth the hearts.

    What did the POPE say?

15 He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the Lord.
    _______________________________________________________________
    I need a merry heart…….”I need medicine!”………………………..

22 A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.
    ________________________________________________________________
Spare your words, and have understanding………”Excellent Spirit”…………….

27 He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.
    _______________________________________________________________
Sometimes the best thing to do is to say nothing at all! Remember, the old Bambi Cartoon, “Thumper, when he said if you have nothing nice to say, “Say Nothing at All”……there is simple basic biblical truth in this saying. Discipline that Flesh……

28 Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.

“Hold that Tongue”……………….”Except to witness, edify, to minister…..etc.etc…”

  17. “He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.”(Proverbs‬ ‭17:27‬ ‭KJV‬‬)

A man of righteousness has a humble spirit of restraint. A meek and quiet spirit is in the sight of God of great price; the Lord has a great regard to such who are of an humble and contrite spirit: with these he dwells, to these he gives more grace; these are like to Christ, and have the fruits of his Spirit, and are very useful and “patient” or “long-suffering”; and to be of a patient spirit is to be of an excellent spirit: such bear afflictions and reproaches quietly; wait God’s own time for hearing and helping them, and live in the comfortable expectation of heaven and happiness; and such show themselves to be wise and understanding men.

  18. What are you taking about?

“He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭17:9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The way that we discuss things shows our intentions. God is love. If we are to show God through our actions we must act like him. We are going to have to quit regarding the negative and move on. No one wants to hear the same bad story over, and over, and OVER! We must learn to be more like friends who cover than people to point out flaws.

  19. 2: A wise servant takes charge of an unruly child
and is honored as one of the family. (MSG)

    Proverbs 22:6 (KJV)
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Raise disciples through discipline and doctrine.

  20. 15 He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the Lord.
At times our justice system will lean in favor of the guilty, acquitting them of their crimes. Giving the wicked freedom will open the door to further wickedness in their lives. Justice is meant for the retribution of the upright.

  21. 28 Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.

Sometimes the best thing to say is nothing at all! There are times when no answer is better that a long rambling explanation which ends up being nonsense and confusion. Silence is golden.

  22. 28 Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.

One of the wisest things we can do is to listen. Many times people jump to conclusions and don’t even wait to hear all the details or the whole story. We cannot understand a matter unless we hear the whole thing out.

  23. 25 A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bare him.

The mommy and daddy society that we have built. Kids are not taught to work for what they want. Everything is given to them because the father or mother was unprevilage as a child. We start vicious cycles of dependent young adults that want every thing handed to tell

Leer us not raise our children in a fictional world that they are not ready for.

  24. 10 A reproof entereth more into a wise man than an hundred stripes into a fool.

A wise man will learn his lesson from correction, however a fool never will. When someone reproofs a man of knowledge they will use their wisdom and repent from their mistakes. The first time we mess up it is a mistake the next time we commit the same mess up it becomes a deliberate choice. A fool will continue and not stop no matter how harsh the consequences. Our actions don’t just effect ourselves but those we love and they weigh on them too, but if we learn from them we will be like the wise man.

  25. A wise servant !!!! 2. A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causeth shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren. 3. The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD trieth the hearts. Ps. 26 : 2 4. A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips; and a liar giveth ear to a naughty tongue. 5. Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker: and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished. Job 31 : 29 Try our hearts oh Lord !!

  26. Proverbs 17:22
A merry heart does good, like medicine, But a broken spirit dries the bones.

Inner life affects physical well being:
A broken, depressed spirit may be attributed to many things, family strife v1,
    Gossip v9, quarrels v14, or a foolish child v21&25.
How can we have a ” merry heart” in the midst of grief and brokenness? The apostle Paul admonished us to trust in God even within the tragedy and choose to dwell on what is good in the person or situation (Phil. 4:6-9)

  27. v3 The participle בֹּחֵן (bokhen, “tests”) in this emblematic parallelism takes on the connotations of the crucible and the furnace. When the Lord “tests” human hearts, the test, whatever form it takes, is designed to improve the value of the one being tested. Evil and folly will be removed when such testing takes place.

  28. v 4 A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips: and a liar giveth ear to a naughty tongue.

We should carefully guard our speech:
” Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speaking” 1 Peter 2:1

It’s been said that a cursing tongue is akin to that of the liar, scorner, the talebearer, false witness, and the flatterer.
