Proverbs 18

1 Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.

2 A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.

3 When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.

4 The words of a man’s mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.

5 It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.

6 A fool’s lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.

7 A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.

8 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

9 He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.

10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

11 The rich man’s wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.

12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.

13 He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.

14 The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?

15 The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.

16 A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.

17 He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.

18 The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.

19 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.

20 A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.

21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord.

23 The poor useth intreaties; but the rich answereth roughly.

24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

  1. iWork

9 He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.

No time to lose, no time to waste, don’t hesitate!

This is our hour to BE CHURCH to a lost, confused, dying world.

We have no time to be slothful or wasteful. Make every second count.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  2. 24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

The bonds between brothers are usually strong bonds. This has been my observation at least. And I have several close friends that I consider my brothers. But Jesus is more than a brother. He is all things. And he will always be there if we don’t push him away. By our actions and words we can Edge God Out. Our EGO can get in the way and cause us to lose out with the best friend that anyone can ever have.

    Be church
    Be friendly
    Be Jesus.

  3. A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snares of his soul.

A fool doesn’t seem to think before he speaks. His mouth gets him into trouble and his words will decide where his soul will lie.

  4. 10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower : the righteous runneth into it and is safe. Every time I see this scripture I think of the song. I am glad that no matter what I am going through I can find it in the name of the Lord..

  5. 10. The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

A strong tower offers protection, but only if you get to it in time. We need to stay close to the tower so that we can take advantage of it when trouble arises. We do that by calling on the name of Jesus not only when we are in trouble, but continuously in praise and worship.

  6. Proverbs 18:24
“A man that hath friends must show himself friendly: and their is a friend that sticker closer than a brother.”

It is true that if you want to have friends you must show yourself friendly. It’s good to have acquaintances, But, there’s nothing like having a genuine friendship with someone/someones who will love you at all times and be faithful no matter what happens. ( They will tell you the truth even when it hurts.)
Having acquaintances is nice, but they are people who will just come and go. So invest your time in building deeper, caring, and meaningful relationships with your genuine friend/friends,

Of course we know that JESUS is our very Best Friend! He will never leave nor forsake us.

  7. 10 The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe. (NLT)

I am safe in Your arms Lord; there is no place I would rather be.

  8. The wealth of the rich is the fortified city they imagine it as unscalable wall . How foolish this is. The name of the Lord is a strong.tower the righteous run to it and or safe.

  9. 10 The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe. (NLT)

I am safe as long as I’m in Your arms and seeking Your will; there truly is no place I would rather be!

  10. Teaching to share

18 The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.

When my girls were young the older would mostly want a larger portion of whatever they were to share. To resolve this without being involved I had one of the girls divide and the other chose their part first. For instance if there was a piece of cake they were going to share. I would have Jaci divide the piece into two parts. Tiffany would then get the first choice of which piece she wanted.

As sisters seem to do, there would still be scheming at work… “Tiffany, are you sure you want that piece? This piece over here has more icing.”

  11. 1 Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.

2 A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.

3 When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.

4 The words of a man’s mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.

There are times when we need answers and we must separate ourselves from the voices of this world in order to hear what the Lord is speaking to us clearly. The time spent seeking God’s Word and listening to his voice will cause us to grow deeper and not be shallow in our wisdom.

  12. iLove to eat More Word

    Proverbs 18:16Giving a gift can open doors;
it gives access to important people!

Wow, this verse is a great verse for giving… Let’s think about it. If giving in the natural can open doors to important people, why couldn’t giving open up doors in the supernatural? Ok, so let’s evaluate it through scripture.

Acts 10:1 “In Caesarea there lived a Roman army officer named Cornelius, who was a captain of the Italian Regiment. 2He was a devout, God-fearing man, as was everyone in his household. He gave generously to the poor and prayed regularly to God. 3One afternoon about three o’clock, he had a vision in which he saw an angel of God coming toward him. “Cornelius!” the angel said. 4Cornelius stared at him in terror. “What is it, sir?” he asked the angel. And the angel replied, “Your prayers and gifts to the poor have been received by God as an offering!”

Cornelius’ giving opened a supernatural door that the angel of the Lord walked through. That opened door led right to salvation!

I will never forget the night when I was stuck working in Houston and I sat there in the Hotel watching the service. Toward the end of service there was a sacrificial offering. I give via text message and immediately after I gave my son received the Holy Ghost…do I think it was a coincidence…NO, I believe God opened a door through giving.

  13. “The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭18:21‬ ‭NLT‬‬

This scripture has always been important to me and a reminder that words can not only harm but kill. Just how our words are deadly so can our actions….we need to watch the things we say or do to a person. Don’t have odds against one another. ““If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.”
    ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6:14‬-15 NLT

So we(including me) must think twice before saying or doing anything

  14. 1 Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.

We don’t just stumble upon wisdom and understanding. We have to have a desire to find it. Desire will lead us to seek it out, to get away from nonsense and find true wisdom.

  15. 10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

The Lord Is our strong tower, it is in him that we find our strength and protection!
It is in him that we find our comfort, love, peace and joy!

Take me to that place Lord, to that secret place where I can be with You, You can make me like You, Wrap me in Your arms, Wrap me in Your arms, Wrap me in Your arms.

  16. NLT 14 The human spirit can endure a sick body, but who can bear a crushed spirit?

Physically we can endure hardships, pain and hunger. Our bodies will heal itself little by little. But when your spirit is crushed by words of discouragement, abuse, or mistrust; one may never get over it or be unable to forgive the other person. But with Jesus, he will bear our cares, so our spirit can continue on with love, joy and peace in our hearts.

  17. 20 A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.

As I think about this I can understand why sometimes we get a belly ache. Frustration, anger, inpatients are not the best counsellors. We must learn on those trying times to bite our tongue or suffer the belly ache when we have to eat the words that come out of our mouth. At the same time repentance is such a great feeling, the cleansing feeling afterwards, the love you feel from God, and His healing that overcomes your body goes beyond description. Lord help us keep our mouth shot next time we find ourself in such situations. Help us better walk away from it and put a praise song in our heart that way we can avoid the belly aches in this world from eating the fruit of our lips. I am not perfect but I know you are and we strive to be like you every day. More of you Lord, less of me. In Jesus Name I pray AMEN

  18. Proverbs 18:21
Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
and those who love it will eat its fruits.

It only takes a second to hurt someone or even kill their spirit if we are not careful with our tongue. Our tongue is a powerful weapon that has even made or bin the cause of war and feuds. Let’s take a second and use our tongue to help and bring someone up, let’s lift someone’s spirit instead of killing it.

  19. 10 God’s name is a place of protection—
good people can run there and be safe. MSG

Whenever your in a bad situation just say the name of Jesus, what ever trial or tribulation your in just say God’s name and he’ll bring you out of it and you can run and be safe in his arms!!

  20. 13 He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.

Think before you speak. It is always wise to think about what you are going to say before you say it. Words are a powerful thing that can either help or hurt. God know how to lead us to say the right thing if we will let him. We don’t have to speak foolishly as long as we allow the Holy Ghost to guide our lips.

  21. Proverbs 18:1 (KJV Strong’s)
1 Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh
    and intermeddleth with all wisdom.

In our fast paced convenience driven microwave world we at times try and bring this same mentality into our relationship with God. We want to give him our order number, and expect him to know what we want and deliver it in a timely manner to boot.

God doesn’t change. God doesn’t try and become more relevant to this generation. He isn’t trying to win office; he is enthroned over the universe.

If we want to know him, and his word there are no short cuts. This can only come trough spending time with him, and his word. We need to separate ourselves at times, and intermeddle with wisdom.

He will reveal things to us if we are willing to take the time to seek them.

  22. “The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.” All have the same amount of time in a day. The question is therefore what has been done with that time, or more importantly how the Judge (Jesus) will view the use of it. Dear God, help me in obtaining and hearing more of you; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In GOD we trust”. “One Nation under GOD, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all”. What a mighty GOD we serve! Thank GOD for his word. GOD bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in JESUS name, Amen!

  23. 19 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.

Let us think before we speak so that our words are not spoken only to be regretted later. An apology doesn’t always mend the offence. Words are powerful tools to condemn & get even when angry, as well as convey appreciation or love. Choose words wisely.

  24. 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
Eph 4:29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

  25. 24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

I read the blog to my kids and as soon as they heard this verse they said, almost simoteniously ” I know who sticks closer than a brother!” I reply”Who?” They both yelled”Jesus”. I very thankful that my children are in the midst of the ministry of Jesus and they have their own personal relationship with God. I’m proud of the knowledge of the word of God that they possess and I’m greatful to the men and women of our church and Sunday school that give their lives to teach them about the kingdom. God smiles on these little ones that know his word!

  26. The heart of a fool
2 A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.

A foolish person does not seek the whole truth through the Word of God because of fear of finding error in his own life. His heart is not seeking God but mischief.

  27. “Unfriendly people care only about themselves; they lash out at common sense.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭18:1‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The saying is true- “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”
It’s seems like there’s more selfish people in this generation. They care about “what’s in it for me” more than helping others.

“For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!”
    ‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭3:2-5‬ ‭NLT

  28. The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.
    Proverbs 18:21 NLT
    http://bible.com/116/pro.18.21.NLT

Speak life. The word tells us that we will reap what we sow even in words. How much more can motivation and an encouraging go than criticism and out downs. We should learn to see the opportunities to better something and speak what you want to see improve.

  29. 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
Hallelujah! Glory! The togue is such a powerful weapon. I love how the book of James describes what the tongue can do. We need to be wise and have knowledge about the way we talk to others. I want to talk like Jesus and jus tell others of his miracles and wonders that Jesus is doing. I always want to hunger and cry out to Jesus because without his love we have nothing. Help me Jesus to not only talk how you talk but to love how you love father.

  30. 22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord.

I’m so great full for my wife. She is the woman that God chose to put in my life. She is the compliment to my weirdness, goofiness, passion of God, and people. She is the reason I have favor from God.

  31. 19 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.

It’s best to watch what we say because we don’t know who you are going to offend. Making wise decisions is important.

  32. 13 He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.
It is ink important that we be swift to hear and slow to speak. We must hear a matter out before we can judge on it that shows wisdom in leadership.

  33. 10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

No other name than the name of Jesus!

  34. The words of a talebearer are as wounds, or rather they are wounds; they wound the credit and reputation of the person the tale is told of; destroy the love and affection to their friend; and in the issue they wound, hurt, and ruin the talebearer himself. Or, they are “as of those that are wounded” pretend to be affected with the case they tell, and to be grieved for the failings and infirmities of those they are secretly exposing, when at the same time they rejoice at them: or, they are “secret” hidden ones, they are spoken secretly, and wound secretly, in a backbiting way: or, they are “smooth” or flattering, smoother than oil, and glide easily into the minds of others: rather, “are greedily swallowed down” and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly; go down pleasantly, and sink deep into the hearts of those to whom they are told; where they have a place and remain, both to the injury of the persons that receive them, and of them of whom they are told; and, though pleasing at first, they are as wounds in the inner parts, wounding the soul.

  35. Fool’s!!!! 6. A fool’s lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes. 7. A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul. PRAISE YE THE LORD !!!!

  36. 19 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.

We have to be careful not to offend people when we bring the gospel to them. That doesn’t mean we should mince words or sugarcoat the word of God, but it means we need to use wisdom in how we present it to people and in the attitude we use when we talk to people about God. If we approach people with a forceful or judgmental attitude than we are not gonna see them be receptive to what we have to say. Instead speak the truth in love and kindness and people’s hearts can be opened for the Holy Spirit to move in them

  37. Proverbs 18:13
He who answers a matter before he hears it,
It is folly and shame to him.

WARNINGS AGAINST FORMING HASTY OPINIONS are given in verses 2,13, 17.
Listening to the other person’s “heart” as well as his words n important aspect of interpersonal relationships v 13.

  38. “Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭18:1‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    what do you really want?

Often people talk about what they want, but it is apparent through the things that people do what they really want. They spend their time, money, and interests on these things. It is awesome that the bible talks about a mans desires leading him into all wisdom. We know that wisdom and understanding come from God so, what are we studying?

  39. That tongue of ours has a lot of power, not only on the negative side of things. But, speak positive things so you can shine for Jesus. So, might as well eat of good fruit rather than bad fruit. “Bless Someone”…………………..

21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
    _______________________________________________________________
I got a good thing, and it comes with greater benefits from the Lord. I not only gain a beautiful loving wife but, favor from the Lord. “A two fer”, “Two for one blessing”…

22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord.
    ________________________________________________________________
Want a freind here is how it’s done, and you already have who stickith claser than a brother. “He lives inside of you”……….JESUS……………

24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

    “Sticketh with Jesus too”……………………………….

  40. v1 The Niphal participle is used in the declarative/estimative sense with stative verbs: “to be discerning” (Qal) becomes “to be declared discerning” (Niphal). The proverb is teaching that silence is one evidence of wisdom, and that even a fool can thereby appear wise. D. Kidner says that a fool who takes this advice is no longer a complete fool (Proverbs [TOTC], 127). He does not, of course, become wise—he just hides his folly.

  41. v21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

If one desires to follow the leading of the SPIRIT OF GOD, his life will produce spiritual fruit . This lets me know that a faithful life is a fruitful life we are not just showing up but growing up into fruitfulness..
