Proverbs 20

1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

2 The fear of a king is as the roaring of a lion: whoso provoketh him to anger sinneth against his own soul.

3 It is an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling.

4 The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.

5 Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.

6 Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?

7 The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him.

8 A king that sitteth in the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes.

9 Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?

10 Divers weights, and divers measures, both of them are alike abomination to the Lord.

11 Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.

12 The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the Lord hath made even both of them.

13 Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.

14 It is naught, it is naught, saith the buyer: but when he is gone his way, then he boasteth.

15 There is gold, and a multitude of rubies: but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel.

16 Take his garment that is surety for a stranger: and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.

17 Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.

18 Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war.

19 He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lips.

20 Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.

21 An inheritance may be gotten hastily at the beginning; but the end thereof shall not be blessed.

22 Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the Lord, and he shall save thee.

23 Divers weights are an abomination unto the Lord; and a false balance is not good.

24 Man’s goings are of the Lord; how can a man then understand his own way?

25 It is a snare to the man who devoureth that which is holy, and after vows to make enquiry.

26 A wise king scattereth the wicked, and bringeth the wheel over them.

27 The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord, searching all the inward parts of the belly.

28 Mercy and truth preserve the king: and his throne is upholden by mercy.

29 The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is the grey head.

30 The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so do stripes the inward parts of the belly.

  1. Proverbs 20:28
Mercy and truth preserve the king and his throne is upholden be mercy.

We must have mercy and truth or we won’t make it to heaven but we must have More Mercy and More Jesus. Amen

  2. Verse 5 MSG “Knowing what is right is like deep water in the heart; a wise person draws from the well within.” Same verse NIV “The purposes of a person’s heart are deep waters, but one who has insight draws them out.” This verse made me think about purposing in your heart to seek that deep relationship with God, always purposing to do His will, not our own. You have to root yourself in His word and dig deep to remain or hold onto the purpose that God has for your life.

    Proverbs 20:3 (NLT) Avoiding a fight is a mark of honor;
    only fools insist on quarreling.

Once again we have amazing scriptures that reveal to us that God is wanting his children to walk in peace, harmony, and unity. Yesterday’s blog said, “11Sensible people control their temper; they earn respect by overlooking wrongs” and today’s blog lets us know that avoiding a fight is a mark of honor. The Lord truly wants us to walk in the spirit of unity. In fact, if we walk in unity, then He promises a commanded blessing.

Psalms 133:1-3 KJV A Song of degrees of David. Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! (2) It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments; (3) As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.

  4. 7 The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him.

Integrity in today’s society is a rare find. It seems people would have ulterior motives for the simplest things in life. Sometimes I fall into this trap. One of my daughters will come to me and give me a hug and say “I love you”. Sometimes – my response is “what do you want?” Not that their integrity is lacking it is just dealing with the world for business all week can darken our perspective of peoples intentions. It seems easy sometimes to lump everyone into the same category and presume everyone is out to get us and take from us what they can.

However, I warn against this. There are good people and there are people who make poor decisions. Fight against the urge to become jaded against the people of this world. Look for the good in everyone and everything; it is there if you look for it.

  5. 9. Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?

We have to realize that we can’t cleanse ourselves from our own sins, but we must call on our loving, merciful God to wipe them from our record.

    Psalm 51:1-2 KJV
    1. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.

    2. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.

  6. I thank CD 1.is a good.as to tell a person to read when they tell you it’s not a sin to drink. Wine produces mockers alcohol leads to drawls. Those lead astray by drink cannot be wise.

  7. 4 The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.

So whether or not you feel the Holy Ghost on you or not witness to a lost soul ttoday. Work while it is yet day, night cometh when no man can work.

  8. 5 Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.
It’s wise to seek counsel and direction; it’s in man’s heart like deep water. .. but it does us no good to simply have wisdom but we must use it and apply it. We must “draw out” the wisdom we are taught and use it on a daily basis.

  9. 15 There is gold, and a multitude of rubies: but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel.

Take heed to the wise words. We must protect those words. Hold them dear to us. A wise word is worth it’s weight in gold.

  10. LEARNING TO WALK IN HUMILITY

6 Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?
7 The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him.

Humility is the model attribute that JESUS displayed to and for us in his earthly life. HE possessed the power and authority to correct, change or confirm anything he would desire by simply speaking into existence the necessary needs. JESUS spoke in the beginning and there was.

Men who promote themselves are definitely not humble. The just man, the humble man, the submitted to GOD man, will walk in his integrity. He will keep his word, he will honor his commitment, he will faithful to his authority.

JESUS help me today to be a just man and that my integrity will accompany me in everything I do, every place I go. In JESUS name.

  11. 1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

Be sober minded ready and alert. A clear mind of peace and rest.

  12. THUS IS THE DAY THAT THE LORD HAS MADE LET US REJOICE AND BE GLAD IN IT!!!!!!!
    Take pride in your gray!!!

29 The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is the grey head.

I still remember her, the beauty of my Grandmother and my Mother. Their always took pride of their silver. My father will tell me that their silver symbolize their wisdom, millions of battle stories, and victories. The miles they have walked can be added and they will go around the world at least twice. I never care to turn back the clock, in my eyes there is nothing more beautiful than aging naturally with the person you love. Teach the young to respect the silver of our hairs, listen to the story of your elders they are fool of wisdom, and maybe you will find them repeating their story not because they forgot they told you but because you still have not been able to learn the lesson that is taught. May the Lord Bless our Elders, give them long life on earth so they may tell their stories, and may they ALWAYS be respected and NEVER harmed. IN JESUS NAME AMEN.

  13. Proverbs 20:22
“Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the Lord, and he shall save thee.”

    Romans 12:17-21
    17) Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.
    18) If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
    19) Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place to wrath: for it is written, VENGEANCE IS MINE;I WILL REPAY, saith the Lord.
    20) Therefore IF THINE ENEMY HUNGER, FEED HIM; IF HE THIRST, GIVE HIM DRINK; FOR IN SO DOING THOU SHALT HEAP COALS OF FIRE ON HIS HEAD.
    21) Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

    Be an overcome today!

  14. 23 Divers weights are an abomination unto the Lord; and a false balance is not good.

It is amazing what we allow to become weights in our lives that are an abomination unto the Lord. We must evaluate ourselves on a regular basis to be sure we are not picking up things that the Lord doesn’t want us to, or getting involved in things that takes our time, talent and treasure from the kingdom of God.

When it comes judgement day we don’t want to be found “wanting” when our life is balanced before the Lord.

  15. When we try to take matter into our own hands we just end up messing things up and perhaps even hurting yourself in the act. Let God be judge and ruler He will take care of things we just have to trust Him to do so and in his time. Anything he might do is way better than any of our attempts.

Romans 12:19New King James Version (NKJV)

19 Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,”[a] says the Lord.

  16. 13 don’t love sleep, or you will become poor; open your eyes, and you’ll have enough to eat.
This verse speaks to me on a deep personal level! Haha! I truly love to sleep!
The proverbs refer to sleep typically in the sense of being lazy. Research shows that a certain amount of sleep is healthy, necessary even to function. This verse is in reference to being lazy through excessive sleep. That, I do not love to do at all.

  17. Proverbs 20: 19 A gossip betrays a confidence so avoid anyone who talks too much. If someone curses their father or mother their lamp will be snuffed out in pitch darkness.

  18. 13 Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.

Sleep-slothful and insensitive to the spirit.
Let’s work hard for the kingdom. Yes everything requires hard work but the recompense is great and beautiful when we meet our savior. Don’t let the devil, set laziness in your heart and mind and not work for the kingdom, because at the day of judgement Jesus is going to ask each and every one of us. What did you do with the talent I gave you, the people I sent your way, the resources I gave you. Are we doing everything for the kingdom of God or ourselves?
where they strengthened the believers. They encouraged them to continue in the faith, reminding them that we must suffer many hardships to enter the Kingdom of God. Acts 14:22
Just focus your eyes on Jesus and do everything for His kingdom. When you get weary and tired just let him fill you and restore you with His Spirit. Hallelujah!!!!!!!

  19. Proverbs 20:6 (KJV Strong’s)
6 Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness:
but a faithful man who can find?

Many like to toot their own horn. Character, and humility is found in serving without recognition. Working behind the scenes and not being noticed. This is valuable, and of much worth. God sees what we do when no one is watching and takes note. One day he will award those who served him in love and not for fame.

Matthew 6:4 (Literal Translation of the Holy Bible – LITV)
4 so that your merciful deeds may be in secret. And your Father seeing in secret Himself will repay you in the open.

  20. 22 Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the Lord, and he shall save thee.

When someone does us wrong or when we feel like a situation has taken advantage, the urge can come to do action about it or in another sense “to avenge a wrong. But we are not the delivery sentencer of people for their wrong doings, God is. He says to be patient and wait on him and he will place his judgment on whoever has done us wrong. Because God is a fair and just God and he knows what to do with everyone no matter what has happened.

  21. “Don’t say, “I will get even for this wrong.” Wait for the LORD to handle the matter.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭20:22‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Many people want to get even with people in some sort of way, but it’ll only come back towards us and it might be in the same way or even differently than expected. So walking away, talking in a calm voice or even using the word helps with the person coming at you in anyway. So before acting after the person has done you wrong think, pray and read. It will calm the anger and allow God to heal or give understanding to you. God wants to help so allow Him to in every aspect of your life. Let God and let go…

  22. 4 The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.

Work is how we support our families. It is also satisfying when we look back and see the good things we have accomplished by working.

  23. Proverbs 20:22 NLT
Don’t say, “I will get even for this wrong.” Wait for the Lord to handle the matter.

A lot of the times when we are hurt or wronged our tendency is to hurt back or get even with the person that has wronged us. Why because it’s our nature to want revenge because we think that will alleviate our pain, but most of the times that doesn’t work. It’s always better to put it in God’s hands and Let Him take care of it, even though it is a hard thing to do.

  24. 7 The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him.

When you do what is right, not only will it follow you, your children will be blessed by it as well. Kids watch everything we do, so it is important to always do good.

  25. “Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?” God himself robed in flesh is the only one that was sinless; everyone else (I) needs the blood of Jesus (name). Dear God, let me never forget it is only, because of your blood; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In GOD we trust”. “One Nation under GOD, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all”. What a mighty GOD we serve! Thank GOD for his word. GOD bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in JESUS name, Amen!

  26. 5 Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.

“A plan in the heart of a man is like deep water,
But a man of understanding draws it out.”

It’s not enough to have a plan. A wise man executes the plan with precision. He also sees the potential in others and draws it out of them, that they too can fulfill their dreams.

  27. 13 Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.

Poverty mentality! We are surrounded by it. People that can’t see past there circumstances, with the “if I can just can get by” mentality. This is contrary to what the Word of God teaches.

Rom 8:37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

We are more that victorious through Christ, when we are in Christ we can not lose. We can live our lives thru luck or karma, reading fortunes, or horoscopes, which will lead us to failure or we can trust the almighty God, and be more than victorious.

  28. How many times have you caught your child doing something they shouldn’t be doing? Did you get that look like I didn’t do anything wrong or get some comment I didn’t do it! They know………………………………………………………………………….

11 Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.

My spirit is what? Of whom? and searching my inward parts of my belly? Does this make sense to you? It should because God wants relationship, purety, and for his children to be a vessel like the pots to hold living water, and for our cups to overflow. You stick with Jesus and he’ll stick with you and to complete the work he has begun in you. God won’t forsake you nor forsake the work of his hands. So, we got to go to work too……..so is he!

27 The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord, searching all the inward parts of the belly.

  29. Our Journey

    Proverbs 20:24 NLT
The Lord directs our steps, so why try to understand everything along the way?

Each of us has a unique journey and the Lord has particular plans for each of us. Not only will we be left in doubt and question if we demand to understand every step of the way, but we will miss the point of certain parts of the journey.

Studies have been done on the ability of search and rescue helicopter pilots to carefully aim and lower a basket to assist in a rescue. Even when dealing with missions out over stormy, violent ocean waves with rushing winds, the pilots developed an uncanny ability to make nearly instantaneous minute adjustments to controls to keep a basket where it needed to be, and they did it not by thinking about it so much as *feeling* it. A sort of adapted instinct took over and they were able to outperform those who focused on maintaining cognoscence of every detail.

Our walk of faith can become much the same way. As we learn God’s ways and learn to trust in Him, terribly stormy situations can be handled through a second nature-instinct. We may not understand all the details but we are guided through by surrendering to the leading of the Holy Ghost.

I think of when the Disciples were in a boat during a storm while Jesus slept below deck and they began to panic, thinking they would die. Seeing that several of them were fishermen, ones who likely could guide a boat with that second nature ease, Jesus’ rebuke of asking why they had no faith was seemingly to ask, “if you as a man could grow to navigate a boat so easily, why do you not think I can guide you so effortlessly through this storm, such that I could ‘do it with my eyes closed’?”

    Psalm 139:7-10 NLT
7 I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence!

8 If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there.

9 If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans,

10 even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me.

  30. v1 The two participles לֵץ (lets, “mocker”) and הֹמֶה (homeh, “brawler”) are substantives; they function as predicates in the sentence. Excessive use of intoxicants excites the drinker to boisterous behavior and aggressive attitudes—it turns them into mockers and brawlers.

  31. V9 Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?

Purity is impossible to attain without the Holy Ghost living in our hearts.

  32. “It is an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭20:3‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Fighting, bickering, and always having to be right don’t help anyone. It is an honor for you to keep your mouth closed. It is better to be honored than to be right.
