Proverbs 25

1 These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.

2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.

3 The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.

4 Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.

5 Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.

6 Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men:

7 For better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.

8 Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.

9 Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself; and discover not a secret to another:

10 Lest he that heareth it put thee to shame, and thine infamy turn not away.

11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.

12 As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.

13 As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.

14 Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain.

15 By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.

16 Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.

17 Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour’s house; lest he be weary of thee, and so hate thee.

18 A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.

19 Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.

20 As he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to an heavy heart.

21 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:

22 For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the Lord shall reward thee.

23 The north wind driveth away rain: so doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.

24 It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.

25 As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.

26 A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.

27 It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.

28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

  1. 21. If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:

    22. For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the Lord shall reward thee.

It doesn’t say that this would be easy, and it doesn’t say that your enemy would reward you, but the Lord shall reward you and he has much greater rewards than man can give!

  2. Boasting Empty Words

14 Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain.

It is a waste of time to go on through life with empty words. Words that have no fruit and gives no life to others. We will be accountable to God for ALL we do and ALL we say . It would be sad not to be able to bast in His presence for the simple act of boasting about something that’s empty. May the Lord keep our ministries alive, may He make it flourish and grow, may our gifts never go dry and may His Kingdom $grow greatly, and may we work

  3. iLove to eat More Word.
Proverbs 25:9-10 NLT When arguing with your neighbor, don’t betray another person’s secret. (10) Others may accuse you of gossip, and you will never regain your good reputation.

Oh Wow, this scripture is amazingly clear about the dangers of gossip and human nature. When people accuse you of gossip, the bible states that you will never regain your good reputation. Gossip is deadly because it not only hurts the one you are talking about, but ruins the one that is doing the talking as well.

  4. Patient persistence pierces through indifference; gentle speech breaks down rigid defenses. (‭Proverbs‬ ‭25‬:‭15‬ MSG)

  5. Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.

Its not enough if you just WANT to live for Jesus. You have to take the necessary actions to insure you are living a pure life. You cannot have temptations and devious opportunities around you and expect yourself to stay on that straightened path. You have to ask God to help you purge all things not pleasing to him from your life so that you may walk in righteousness.

  6. 11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.

Let’s choose our words carefully. No matter what language we speak, words are one of the many ways we communicate our thoughts, ideas, biases, and beliefs. They help us get our point across, help us express our emotions and, ultimately, help us get our way. It’s probably not a surprise that men and women communicate very differently. The quality of one’s words is what differentiates a leader from someone who is just talking a lot.

    Here are some word counts:
    Gettysburg Address – 272 words
Declaration of Independence – 1478 words
King James Bible – 12,143 (English), 5.624 (Greek) 8,674 (Hebrew) words
    Oxford Dictionary – 171,476 words
English Language – Over 1 million

With social media we get to write words in a way that is stored forever, and in public. Our words pass with lightning speed into the brains of those we are connected to and influence whether we like it or not. Let’s take a moment to consider the words we post publicly in the same manner we should consider the words we speak as neither can be taken back.

  7. 9 When arguing with your neighbor, don’t betray another person’s secret.
10 Others may accuse you of gossip, and you will never regain your good reputation. (NLT)

There is never an appropriate time to gossip and spread unnessecary secrets. It’s not our job nor our place to do such a thing. It’s like what Pastor just preached, we need to grow up and handle our own problems because it’s no one else’s problem but ours – chances are it’s only a problem because we made it one.

  8. 9 When arguing with your neighbor, don’t betray another person’s secret.
10 Others may accuse you of gossip, and you will never regain your good reputation. (NLT)

There is never an appropriate time or place to gossip or spread unnessecary secrets. It’s not our job nor our place to do such a thing. It’s like what Pastor just preached yesterday, we need to grow up and handle our own problems because it’s no one else’s problem but ours – chances are it’s only a problem because we made it one.

  9. MORE DISCIPLINE

28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

Disipline is a necessity in every life. We begin to implement discipline usually around age 2 when a child is beginning to make decisions for themselves, such as when to make noise, when to eat, when and where to go to the bathroom, etc. It is through the process of discipline that we learn and teach every child to rule his/her own body and choices.

This same principal applies to us Spiritually. As we choose daily who we will follow, my will or THE WILL OF THE LORD. We are challenged to rule over our own spirit to bring it under subjection to or in submission to the SPIRIT of the LORD JESUS.

If we fail at this, the proverb says there are no boundaries, walls or even foundation to build on for the Kingdom of GOD.

JESUS help me today to have rule over my spirit that your SPIRIT will be glorified. In JESUS name.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  10. 16 Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.

17 Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour’s house; lest he be weary of thee, and so hate thee.

Moderation is wise in all aspects of life. We should eat, play, work, relax all in moderation. Using any excessively is unwise. Even too much of a good thing can be bad. Eat too much you will get sick. Play too much your responsibilities will be neglected. Work too much and your family and other parts of your life you need get neglected. Relaxing too much is being lazy and then you avoid and neglect other necessities in your life. Everything we do needs to be in moderation.

  11. 21 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:
22 For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the Lord shall reward thee.

Bless them that curse you. We must be church.

  12. 28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

It’s hard to be a good light and witness, when our carnal self rises to the top all the time. We must exercise the discipline in the spirit and possess the fruit of the Spirit at all times. Notice it’s not fruits ….. optional that we can have one and not the other, but it is all evidence of the one fruit ….

Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

  13. 28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

When we lack discipline in our life we are opening ourselves up for attacks from the enemy. Lord help us accept discipline and to use as a step to get closer to you!!

  14. 9 If you take your neighbor to court, do not betray another’s confidence,

Taking cases to court is between the plantiff and a defendant, jury, judge etc. their are certain things that you can and cannot say. The dispute is between two people the plantiff and the defendant, the person making accusation and the person defending themself. It doesn’t matter how hot the accusations get against you, you don’t harm someone elses confidence in you to take the heat off yourself. We can trust that the Lord is our defender and judge and
He can dismiss any of His childrens offenses in a higher court.

  15. Proverbs 25: 26 Like a muddied spring or a polluted well are the righteous who give way to the wicked. 28: Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks selfconrl.

  16. Proverbs 25:27 It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search(seek) their own glory is not glory.
Chapter 27 talks about the wrath of a fool

Luke 14:11 For whosoever exalted himself shall be abased ; and he that humbleth himself shal be exalted.

  17. 19 Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.

You know a real friend when he is going through something in his life but he is still there for you. Don’t miss out on what really matters just because your going through a little something. Because these situations all pass but you are left with that friend that you caused to stumble. We have to be there for one another. Don’t let the circumstances of life take mess up your friendships. Especially your relationship with Jesus.

  18. 21 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:

22 For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the Lord shall reward thee.

As a wise woman always tells me.. “Be Jesus” we have to think about the things we say and do and if Jesus would do the same

  19. 11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.

When words are used for the right purpose and on Gods timing many times it causes repentance in the sinners, healing for the hurting, hope for the lost, faith to those that are in unbelief. Everyone is fighting this spiritual battle whether they have the power of the Holy Ghost or not. Be the salt of the earth, be a light to your world. Preach, Teach and Exhort with all diligence. The Struggle is real, so think before you speak. and always give your testimony …. the apostles only spoke what they have seen and heard.

  20. What your eyes have seen
8 do not hastily bring into court,
for what will you do in the end,
when your neighbor puts you to shame?
9 Argue your case with your neighbor himself,
and do not reveal another’s secret,
10 lest he who hears you bring shame upon you,
and your ill repute have no end.

  21. Proverbs 25:25 (NLT)
“Good news from far away is like cold water to the thirsty.”

I like to drink a nice cold glass of water when I’m real thirsty.
Timothy and I have lived in Texas now for 11 years. I have not seen my family and friends in Illinois, Indianapolis, and Wisconsin for over 2 years. So when I do hear from them, from time to time, it’s like “quenching a thirst in me” to hear their voices or to get a letter or get a card from them.

Thank You JESUS for my dear family and friends that I miss so much.

  22. 21 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:

This is what showing love is all about. Even though your enemy would not treat you the same way, is important that you still show them what the love of Jesus is all about. God desires a people who are not afraid to show his love to others.

  23. “Telling lies about others is as harmful as hitting them with an ax, wounding them with a sword, or shooting them with a sharp arrow.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭25:18‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Words hurt or heal… We must speak life and ecouagement.

  24. 27 It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.

We like have things that our sweet and taste good to us, both in our food and in the thngs that life throws our ways. But when we only like when we sweet or nice things, we also become easily offended.

For it takes about many times in the book of Proverbs about how a reprove from a friend is better than a kind word from the enemy. Sometimes we have to hear all the truth about our lives even if we don’t want to hear it. Because a rebuke from your brother in Christ can save you, but only if you let it.

  25. 21 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:

Loving one another no matter what!!! Don’t hate your anybody hate the enemy because he is the one that has them bound. Sometimes people don’t know what they are doing because of how bound in sin the devil has them, but my God is real and is able to set anyone free!!!!! Let’s show others of the great mercy and love that Jesus has for them, like I tell my Sunday school kids we need to be just like God. God loves everyone and that is why we should love one another. Rise up as a church and show Gods great mercy and love toward others 🙂 thank you Jesus for your great love because if we don’t have love we have nothing!!!!

  26. Proverbs 25:21-22 (Modern English Version)
    21 If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat;
    and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink;
22 for you will heap coals of fire upon his head,
and the Lord will reward you.

    Isaiah 6:6-7 (Modern English Version)
6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar in his hand. 7 And he laid it on my mouth, and said, “This has touched your lips, and your iniquity is taken away, and your sin purged.”

Coals symbolize repentance. God doesn’t want us to be nice so people will be set on fire. He wants us to be good to them because they will be drawn to a place of repentance. They will cry out to God realizing what they have done wrong.

This scripture isn’t about us getting even with others. If that is the case then there is no point in doing these things. This is about us living in a place of restoration, and helping to reconcile them to God.

  27. “A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭25:28‬ ‭NLT‬‬

This scripture popped out mostly to me, because self control isn’t the easiest thing to do…some might say they have control but there is always one area that is hard for an individual to have control in. Having control takes a lot of discipline and we all know how much fun that can be. But what helps during our self control is God. If we manage to put God in our lives on a continual basis then just like the scripture says, I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me. So if we have God then we can do anything!

  28. 14 Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain.

You look the part but lack substance to fulfill the role. Ones hypocritical appearance is not enough you must have the integrity needed to accomplish the task.

  29. “These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.” When an item, history, etc. is copied out, then there is a purpose for doing so. There are currently items today that are being copied out, altered, or sadly deemed unnecessary. This is all the more why one would be wise to heed the word of Jesus (God), the man of God, and study. One would also be very wise to study the reason for something, before simply dismissing it as not relevant or unimportant. Dear God, truly awaken me to the season; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In GOD we trust”. “One Nation under GOD, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all”. What a mighty GOD we serve! Thank GOD for his word. GOD bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in JESUS name, Amen!

  30. “If your enemies are hungry, give them food to eat. If they are thirsty, give them water to drink. You will heap burning coals of shame on their heads, and the LORD will reward you.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭25:21-22‬ ‭NLT‬‬
    http://bible.com/116/pro.25.21-22.nlt

Kill them with kindness is the thought that come to mind and it reminded me of this other scriptures.
“Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable. Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone. Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say, “I will take revenge; I will pay them back,” says the LORD. Instead, “If your enemies are hungry, feed them. If they are thirsty, give them something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals of shame on their heads.” Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good.”
    ‭‭Romans‬ ‭12:17-21‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Let’s be a Romans 12 kind of Christian and allow God to be judge and ruler.

  31. 21 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:

22 For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the Lord shall reward thee.

I heard a man speak in front of a jury to a man that had killed his brother. He told him “I don’t want the full measure of the law to fall on you, I pray that you find Jesus!”

Reminds me of the heroic act of Stephen, how even in the most difficult time he could still forgive his aggressors. It’s gives turning the other cheek a twist.

We are called to do the Godly thing, to not just forgive but forget, not just to not murder but not hate, to not just not fornicate but to not covet. We are called to a higher standard in Christ. This is why God honors this, we set aside our pride and put on Jesus.

  32. Scattered Unity

18 A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.

A “maul” is otherwise known as a “hammer” or “mace.” In the Hebrew, the word comes with the specific connotation of one who scatters or disperses. When put in the context of relationships, it could be inferred that it is a “scatterer—or destroyer—of unity.” False accusation and falsely testifying about someone when asked not only brings pain for a period of time in a person’s life, it destroys unity and scatters the individuals that were once close and can cause lasting damage to the victims within their circle of peers.

In Rhetoric, there are many examples of how arguements can be fallacious (having a failure in reasoning that renders an argument invalid, such as through blatant illogical points or being deceptive.) One such example of a failed argument is called Ad Hominem, which is to attack a person instead of their argument. When this happens, it can result in tainting how the victim is perceived by others, even after the attack is shown to be false. This sort of “murder of reputation” appeals to the emotions of others, as it may be simple to disprove a false accusation but much harder to correct false emotional reasoning planted in the hearts of peers. This sort of damage leaks like poison and spreads division far beyond the original parties involved.

    Proverbs 6:16-19
16 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

  33. “Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭25:14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Everyone knows your there, but you are useless. There is no real purpose in it.

  34. 28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

We first must have discipline in our own lives before we can expect to teach or example a disciplined life before others. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. It’s this flesh we must overcome and as Pastor preached: the Lords will be done, not mine. Strive to do his will daily.

  35. “The north wind brings forth rain, And a backbiting tongue an angry countenance.”(Proverbs‬ ‭25:23‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

Our Saviour has shown his people how great of an example in loving us for giving up his life up for us and taking a beating that no man could ever make through the pain he’s gone for us when we were enemies we were alienated from God and were enemies in our own minds and we, being in time past alienated and enemies in our own minds of doing evil works!!! In Jesus Name Amen !!!

  36. Search out wisdom, and search out the word of God, seek his kingdom and his will for you. It is the honour of kings to search out a matter, but remember you are his kings/queens (Royalty), you are an adopted child of the one true God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, & Jacob. Jeshua Jesus Christ…………………………………………

2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.

3 The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.
    _____________________________________________________________
If, your vessel is the temple of the Holy Ghost then to make it a finer vessel get rid of all sin or ungodly manners. Take out the wicked or dross, and be that finer vessel for God. “Let the Potter do his work and get out of his way”. In other words, let him handle it………………”Have Righteousness”…………………………………

4 Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.

5 Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
    _____________________________________________________________
Yup, don’t think your something your not. Keep yourself in the place where God has you, and wait for that promotion when the time arise.

6 Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men:

    “Be Still”………………………………………………………………………………

  37. Proverbs 25:27 NLT
It’s not good to eat too much honey, and it’s not good to seek honors for yourself.

When we seek honor for ourselves reveals that we have a lot of pride and seek to satisfy our freshly needs. We must remember that God deserves all the honor and it is His place to be Honored not ours. We can accomplish so much more if we take ” I ” out of it.
