Proverbs 27

1 Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.

2 Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.

3 A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool’s wrath is heavier than them both.

4 Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?

5 Open rebuke is better than secret love.

6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

7 The full soul loatheth an honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.

8 As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place.

9 Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man’s friend by hearty counsel.

10 Thine own friend, and thy father’s friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother’s house in the day of thy calamity: for better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.

11 My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that reproacheth me.

12 A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.

13 Take his garment that is surety for a stranger, and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.

14 He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him.

15 A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike.

16 Whosoever hideth her hideth the wind, and the ointment of his right hand, which bewrayeth itself.

17 Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

18 Whoso keepeth the fig tree shall eat the fruit thereof: so he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured.

19 As in water face answereth to face, so the heart of man to man.

20 Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.

21 As the fining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold; so is a man to his praise.

22 Though thou shouldest bray a fool in a mortar among wheat with a pestle, yet will not his foolishness depart from him.

23 Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.

24 For riches are not for ever: and doth the crown endure to every generation?

25 The hay appeareth, and the tender grass sheweth itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered.

26 The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are the price of the field.

27 And thou shalt have goats’ milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and for the maintenance for thy maidens.

  1. As a face is reflected in water, so the heart reflects the real person. (‭Proverbs‬ ‭27‬:‭19‬ NLT)

  2. Verse 19 MSG “Just as water mirrors your face, so your face mirrors your heart.” Same verse NKJV “As in water face reflects face, So a man’s heart reveals the man.” Same verse NIV “As water reflects the face, so one’s life reflects the heart.”

  3. 1.Don’t brag about tomorrow, since you don’t know what the day will bring. NLT

We shouldn’t brag about what will happen tomorrow, since we can’t guarantee that we will even see tomorrow; on the other hand, we don’t have to be fearful of tomorrow, either. Only God knows what tomorrow holds because He holds tomorrow and He is already there.

  4. Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but the kisses of the enemy are deceitful.

Enemies will lie and tell you sweet things to Deceive you. A friend will correct you, even if it cuts you deep.

  5. iLove to eat More Word
Pro 27:18 As workers who tend a fig tree are allowed to eat the fruit, so workers who protect their employer’s interests will be rewarded.

Praise the Lord, this scripture goes exactly opposite of todays culture in many ways. First, I couldn’t imagine that the owners of the fig orchards would allow their workers eat their profit. Secondly, I have been on plenty of jobsites to understand that a lot of employees do not protect their employers interests. What does this mean, it means that our culture is out of sync with the Word of God. We need to put God’s Word into action at least in our lives and let his promises come to pass.

  6. Great are His Provisions

God provides all our needs without any lack. He instructs us of the usage of each for Him everything has a purpose on this earth. If we do not abuse it we will be always blessed. He has given us dominion over all. Thank you Jesus for I know you are my protector and provider in Jesus Name Amen.

  7. NLT 2 Let someone else praise you, not your own mouth—
a stranger, not your own lips.

If you praise yourself, you have pride about yourself. I’ve known individuals like this, they like to talk about themselves and always looking to take credit for something. Let your work and actions do the talking, then praise will come when you least expect it.

  8. 14 If you wake your friend in the early morning
    by shouting “Rise and shine!”
    It will sound to him
more like a curse than a blessing.

    Perspective.

  9. MORE “THE WILL OF THE LORD”

1 Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
2 Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.

Self promotion is the revealing trait of pride and self will. Something I have learned about people from working with people for over 25 years. If someone is not paying you a compliment, you have most likely either; done nothing worthy of a compliment or you have already complimented yourself.

Another thing I have learned from over 12 years of Pastoring; most people that schedule a meeting with the Pastor are there to tell the Pastor what they are going to do.

These 2 lessons directly oppose verses 1-2 here in chapter 27. The apostle James shares insight and revelation on this subject in:

James 4:13 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:
14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
16 But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.
17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

Say “if the LORD will” not “I will” or “my will”

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  10. 19 As a face is reflected in water, so the heart reflects the real person. (NLT)

What does your heart say about you? Our hearts is what God looks at, our hearts are what matter and God knows the true intentions and attitude of every heart. Let’s be sure to care more about what our hearts reflect.

  11. 6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

A true friend will tell the truth; especially if the truth is painful to hear. I have had relationships where truth was not part of the relationship. There was more work involved to maintain the relationship than benefits. I had to be careful to offend them and I presume there feeling was mutual. Neither of us were too upset when circumstances separated us on a daily basis.

I now have a true friend that sticks closer than a brother. Through my relationship with Jesus I have developed other friendships; true friendships where the two of us can communicate with truth.

  12. 10 Thine own friend, and thy father’s friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother’s house in the day of thy calamity: for better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.

What a friend we have in Jesus.
A true friend will tell you what you need to hear and not what you want to hear. I thank God for my friends who have told me what I needed to hear. We all need a true friend in our lives.

  13. Boast not thyself of tomorrow or of having a tomorrow, or of any future time; no man can assure himself of more than the present time. However desirable long life is, no one can be certain of it since life is such a frail thing; the breath of man is in his nostrils, which is soon and easily stopped; his life is but as a vapour, which appears for a little while, and then vanishes away; all flesh is as grass, which in the morning flourishes, in the evening is cut down. Death is certain to all men, as the fruit of sin, by the appointment of God; and there is a certain time fixed for it, which cannot be exceeded; but of that day and hour no man knows; and therefore cannot boast of a moment of future time, or of a tomorrow, or of what he shall enjoy from it. What we have today we cannot be certain we shall have the next; we cannot assure ourselves of health, of pleasures, riches, and friends; we may have health today, and sickness tomorrow; be in honor today, and disgrace the next. We have to seize the opportunity of today like repentance of sins, prayer, reading the Word and hearing the Gospel, and not be put off till tomorrow. Nor should a person procrastinate evangelism and outereach to be postponed, but work while it is day, and always abound in the work of the Lord, and be found so doing; (Isaiah 56:12)

  14. 23 Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.

By the works of our hands and the goodness of Jesus, we have everything we need. Laziness will provide nothing.

  15. Proverbs 27:17 NLT
As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.

Every day we speak to people and it is always better to speak to them with the Word of God and encourage them and be positive and pray with them. This will make the person stronger and more confident and that is better than any gossip or negativity can ever do.

  16. 19 As in water face answereth to face, so the heart of man to man.

God knows us inside and out. We are not hiding anything from Him. He sees our strengths and our weaknesses. We should evaluate ourselves as well and be real. When you look at your reflection in water, you see the real you. We should look at ourselves through the Word of God and see the real us. Sure the areas that are week, clean out the areas that have become congested with the world and carnality and live pure and holy before the Lord.

  17. “Know the state of your flocks, and put your heart into caring for your herds,”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭27:23‬ ‭NLT‬‬

All throughout this chapter it tells of the importance of being a friend and having friends to help each other. We should take a new believer under our wing and be a friend to them by knowing the state or situation they’re in. We do that by healing their hurts, meeting their needs and build their dreams. This can only be done through a close friendship.

  18. 2 Let someone else praise you, not your own mouth—
a stranger, not your own lips. NLT

We’re not here on this earth to look pretty or to show everyone how “perfect” we are because we’re not ,we all make mistakes in this world and to fix that we have to repent and ask God for forgiveness everyday!!

  19. 2 Don’t call attention to yourself; let others do that for you. MSG
Don’t brag on yourself no one likes to be around someone that is always talking about themselves. Bragging on yourself gives you a self righteous spirit. If we brag on ourselves how is God going to brag on us. Just a thought…
Don’t take credit for what you didn’t do, let God have all the credit when you get your blessing!!!

  20. 19 As in water face answereth to face, so the heart of man to man.

As water reflects the face of man, so does our heart reflect or reveal the man himself. For out of the heart the mouth speaketh. Our words reveal what is in our hearts.m

  21. Proverbs 27:17 (Modern English Version)
    17 Iron sharpens iron,
so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.

When iron sharpens iron sparks fly. It isn’t always a smooth process. Sometimes there is much friction. However in the end it is all worth it.

(Blackaby Study Bible, NKJV: Personal Encounters with God Through His Word) Others can often see things in our lives that we miss. God designed His people to be interdependent so we can help one another grow towards Christlikeness. God’s people always function best in community, where we can challenge and enrich one another’s lives.

Remember we aren’t supposed to do this alone. God designed this for us to be there and help and encourage one another. There is power in unity.

  22. 17 Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

No man is an island unto themselves we all need good Godly friends.

  23. 19 As in water face answereth to face, so the heart of man to man.

We could have a great attitude all the time, but if our heart does not reflect that, we are doing no good. For God is the only one who truly knows our hearts, so if it’s not pure and holy, God will know, there is no fooling Him. So what does your heart say about you!

  24. 3 A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool’s wrath is heavier than them both.

Hallelujah!!! How bad is wrath??? Very bad….I can only imagine the wrath of God how intense and heavy it is when we do wrong knowing. This is when we have to use our wisdom and don’t let things get us angry or upset. Don’t let the devil in because he will take any opportunity that we give him and try to bound us and sin. When I feel I am going to get mad I jus pray and rebuke that because I know the great damage my mouth and actions can cause to others and as a Jesus follower I have to act like Jesus would. I will always put my faith and trust in Him to guide me and remove anything that is not His.

  25. God knows how to take care of his people. We don’t have to worry if what God has for us is going to come to past. If God said it, then we know it shall be done. We must be persistent in trusting in God in everything we do.

  26. Proverbs 27:8 (AMP)
“Like a bird that wanders from her nest (with its comfort and safety), So is a man who wanders from home.”

What happens to a bird that wanders from its nest? Usually ends up injured, dead, or eaten.
Now let me apply this spiritually.
Wandering implies restlessness. It implies a lack of direction. It implies a lack of discipline. It implies a lack of forethought. It implies to a lack of roots and stability.
This is why, when someone “wanders” from church, they are injured, die spiritually, and are eaten by the enemy. Because they have no direction, they are not submissive, under athority, disciplined, involved, or have any root or stability in their walk with the Lord.
So stay in church, the place of comfort and safety. Get submitted under authority, get involved in ministry, find direction for your life, and be grounded and rooted in Jesus.

    Stay In Church!!

  27. “A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.” The word of Jesus (God), and the preaching/teaching by the man of God can make one wise; if one listens and obeys. However one that only hears and obeys what they want is as the simple. Dear God, help me too be prudent and not simple; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In GOD we trust”. “One Nation under GOD, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all”. What a mighty GOD we serve! Thank GOD for his word. GOD bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in JESUS name, Amen!

  28. 5 Open rebuke is better than secret love.

It is a very sad day when people would rather hate the man of God that speaks truth than run from the secret love that is destroying them.

  29. Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
The bible says faithful are the wounds of a friend, they are going to continue to do things that may offend you, but its a whole lot easier too take, then the kisses from enemy, pretty much is cover up from a decietful heart, a decietful person ,like judas when he betrayed Jesus.

  30. A good friend

6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

A good friend will tell you when your about to mess up even if it hurts your feelings. A devil will tell you what your flesh wants to hear. Hell is full of kind words and silver tongues you know like the silver tongued snake. Someone that is truly faithful to you wont let you be content to fail. I love my good friends. Thanks to good teaching we are able to develop good friends

  31. 27:19 As in water the face is reflected as a face,
so a person’s heart reflects the person.

A persons emotional self reflects who they are. It is not always able to be hidden.

  32. 17 Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

I never really knew the importance of this until my later years of life. The importance to have good friends. People that can speak a word into your life, like pastor says to people that you can trust to cut you. I thank God for the God fearing men in my life, that instruct me, lift me up, cut me and rebuked me with love. I am becoming the man God wants me to be because of it.

  33. “A prudent person sees trouble coming and ducks; a simpleton walks in blindly and is clobbered.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭27:12‬ ‭MSG‬‬

This goes to show that planning ahead for problems that may arise is wise. Preparation is a quality a leader posses.

Plan to go to church, plan to pray everyday, plan to fast, plan it out!

  34. 10 Thine own friend, and thy father’s friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother’s house in the day of thy calamity: for better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.

Do not forget your friends, especially in their times of trouble and especially don’t forget about the new believers in the church. When they come in, they need a friend to go to when they are in need. The devil will try to throw everything at them that he can to try and get them to backslide, and it’s our job to try and prevent that from happening.

Don’t be far off to people that need you, be a close neighbor, so that they have a friend to go to in time of need.

  35. Open rebuke is better than secret love.

6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful

I am thankful to be surrounded by a group of close friends that will tell me the truth in love because the honestly want the best for me.

  36. “Faithful are the wounds of a friend, But the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.”(‭Proverbs‬ ‭27:6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

We will never know what a day may bring forth. This does not forbid preparing for to-morrow, but presuming upon to-morrow. We must not put off the great work of conversion, that one thing needful.Plain and faithful rebukes are better, not only than secret hatred, but than love which compliments in sin, to the hurt of the soul. The poor have a better relish of their enjoyments, and are often more thankful for them, than the rich. In Jesus Name !!!

  37. If, an anointing of perfume can make my heart rejoice. Buy, me more cologne wife of mine, but the anointing of the Lord Jesus Christ is much sweeter and came with the most price we could never pay for, his blood. A debt he didn’t owe, a payment we couldn’t afford. Jesus is not only our friend, but is our sweet Counselor too.

9 Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man’s friend by hearty counsel.
    ———————————————————————–
You want to be sharp, hang out with your fellow believer’s in the body of Christ. “Get. Sharp”…….

17 Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

    “Don’t Cut Me”……………………..
