Genesis 2

1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

4 These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens,

5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.

6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.

7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

8 And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.

9 And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

10 And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.

11 The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;

12 And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone.

13 And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia.

14 And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.

15 And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

18 And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

19 And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.

21 And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;

22 And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

  1. You see, I knew something good would come out of me! Wow, what a gift God gave us men. “Women”, I cleave to my wife! Thank You Jesus…………………

Once sin, was introduced to mankind. So, was shame! We are covered now, by the blood of Jesus Christ, which washes our sins away. We are now clothed in righteousness & with the garment of praise, Amen.

25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

    “Stay Covered”…………………………………………………………………………….

  2. Wow….we serve the Creator of ALL! My God is so awesome. The end of the chapter ends with verse 25 “…..The two of them, the Man and his Wife, were naked, but they felt no shame.” When you have nothing to be ashamed of or worried about because you know your doing right, you are open and free; but, when you know you are doing wrong….you want to and try to cover it up!

  3. iLove to eat more Word
Genesis 2:2-3 NLT On the seventh day God had finished His work of creation, so He rested from all His work. (3) And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when He rested from all His work of creation.

I remember the days of Store Conference. Immediately after Western Day in those days, we would load up the car and travel to Louisiana and attend this great ministry conference and then after it was over, we would spend 3 days on Galveston Island. As humans, we all need alittle rest. The Holy Ghost is that rest! Matthew 11:28-29 NLT Then Jesus said, “Come to Me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. (29) Take My yoke upon you. Let Me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

  4. The Tree
9 And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

This tree was no special tree with Divine powers in the fruit. It could have been any tree in the garden or a simple grape vine. The knowledge of good and evil lay in the act of obedience, not in the digesting of the fruit of this particular tree. I thought for many years what the fruit of this particular tree looked like. Why do most drawings of Adam and Eve depict them eating an apple? Because it is one of the most recognizable fruit trees, I don’t know and it truly does not matter.

The physical fruit may have contained some vitamin C and some beneficial fiber, but it was not spiritually nutritious. However, the act of disobedience was spiritually poisonous. The sin of disobedience opened Adam’s and Eve’s eyes to evil. For the first time, they knew what it was to be evil, to feel shame, and to want to hide from God. Eating the fruit, as an act of disobedience against God, was what gave Adam and Eve the knowledge of evil—and the knowledge of their nakedness.

  5. God told Adam he would make an help meet for him (he gave him a promise). Before he did he created all the animals, but Adam was sad because his help meet was not fulfilled. God brought Adam to a place of rest and renewal so he could form or birth something from him. Adam held on to God’s promise and was rewarded with a companion to share the riches and responsibilities with. Hallelujah!

  6. 7. And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

When we are not allowing God to breathe His breath of life into us, we may be existing but we’re not really living.

  7. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

The first word from God to Man. A sinple request.

    You had one job adam…

  8. 19 So the Lord God formed from the ground all the wild animals and all the birds of the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would call them, and the man chose a name for each one. (NLT)

Can you imagine how crazy awesome this would have been?! “Um you over there with the stripes/spots/big nose/etc., yes you will be…” I mean, just..WOW!!

  9. MORE HAPPENS AT NIGHT

20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.
    21 And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
22 And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

Adam was busy, he was doing what GOD created him to do. Adam was right with GOD, he had followed all of the instructions given him.

GOD recognized there was something lacking in the man and chose to bless him and help him out. However this miracle of reproduction required that Adam go to sleep, spend some time in the dark, not knowing what GOD was doing. Possible it would have been too painful or maybe resistance would arise because Adam could not understand what the creator was performing through him.

The LORD reveals this creative story to us so that we may understand the importance of the NIGHT. MORE HAPPENS AT NIGHT than we could comprehend. We must learn to not despise the NIGHT SEASON in our lives, only allow GOD to accomplish what he desires.

  10. UNASHAMED

25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

To be naked or unclothed after the fall of man is a sin. However we learn a principal from this passage.

GOD knows our every weakness, frailty, infirmity and shortcoming, yet HE LOVES US. The fact that Adam and his wife were so close to GOD that they were UNASHAMED teaches us that we have the opportunity to come to GOD from a REPENTED heart, mind and life and we are able to seek his face and favor regardless of how we look or our past.

We also learn that if we are TRANSPARENT with GOD we will live our lives UNASHAMED.

  11. God has a purpose for each of Creations!!!!!

    21 And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;

You will think after seeing the results of disobeying God they will learn and I know because of men action today that we are far from understanding. God made sure we have a purpose to fulfill within His will. Disobedience only separates us from what our purpose is in the first place. 6 days and in the 7th day He rested. 6 days of hard work creation, taking time to make sure every detail is in place, complete perfection, done by Him. Jesus!!! YES JESUS was present in creation paying attention making everything just right. Every morning a new beginning same creation with a new opportunity, an opportunity to do better, to obey, to carry on His will. Jesus was the one that by dying gave us another chance to restore!!!! By resurrection He made us a new creation. The anointing of the Holy Ghost reunites us to His Spirit never to leave again. Thank you Jesus for you took your time in creation and giving us a way out of temptation. In Jesus Name Amen

  12. He has already provided

    Genesis 2:5-7 (KJV Strong’s)
5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground. 6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground. 7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

    Genesis 22:14 (AMP)
14 So Abraham called the name of that place The Lord Will Provide. And it is said to this day, On the mount of the Lord it will be provided.

    Psalms 3:5 (KJV Strong’s)
    5 I laid me down and slept;
I awaked; for the Lord sustained me.

One of the first attributes we see of God is his nature to provide and sustain life. Before he ever created man he gave him light, air to breathe, trees to produce oxygen, water to drink, wind to cool, animals for food and clothing, etc.

He made a way before there was ever a need. I believe God wants us to trust him and have patience. He will come through even if at the last moment. He is our provider, our sustainer, and our help even through the most mundane to the most important of circumstances.

  13. 16 – 17 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

  14. 7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

When I saw this I was reminded of this song
Breathe on me, Power of God, come in and change me.

Just as God breathes in us to give us life, he does the same when we repent before him and turn our life over to him, he gives us a new life and sets us free so that we can live again without being bound by sin! Lord you are all that we need, I thank you for your everlasting mercy that gives us new life!

  15. 1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

God has every minute detail of our life in His hands. He who not only thought up the world, but made it with His spoken word, can take care of whatever needs we may have.

Matthew 6:28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:

  16. Genesis 2:20-22 NIV
So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals. But for Adam no suitable helper was found. So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

When you work for the kingdom of God, He will always provide a suitable helper for you. One with the same passion and that will fill in for our weaknesses. HE is the provider.

  17. Genesis 2:7
“And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”

Acts 17:28a, “For in him we live, and move, and have our being…”

  18. 21 And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;

    The missing piece.

I have often wondered why and how two people could become one flesh. But as I was reading this the Lord allowed me to understand. The man is always missing one piece in his life. I have heard all my life that the woman completes a man. But it makes sense. She literally does complete him. I pray that who ever I find will complete me and we become one.

  19. 5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.

6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.

Before Noah, there had never been a rain as we know it. Rather a mist rose up from the ground to water the earth.
Our God is both Creator and Provider and even before man began to eat meat from an animal, God provided “meat” from the trees and plants.

  20. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die

There was temptation to sin in the garden and Adam was supposed to work in it but sin was never supposed to work in him. Everywhere we go sin and temptation are there but we are not meant to take part in it. Moses lived in Egypt but he was not an Egyptian. In the same way we must live in this world but not be of this world nor have this world in us

  21. 15 And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

Somebody say WORK! The first charge Adam had from God was, Work! Men have worked since there existence. It’s was even commanded before woman came. For all those aspiring to be in ministry or to go up in ministry, your gonna have to learn to work. Ministry is hard work, ok I’ll rephrase that, passionate full time, in the business of saving lives ministry is hard work. There is was too many slackers satisfied and content. We should we say enough, at the Rapture!

  22. Genesis 2:15 and the Lord God took the took man and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to kjeerp it. And the Lord commanded the man saying of every tree of the garden thou mayet freely eat., but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.

  23. God had everything in the garden set up in the beautiful design that he created it in. God’s design is not flawed, but our own desires is what causes us to loose focus on what God wants us to do. When we’re willing to put our selfish desires out of the way, we allow God to have his way in our life.

  24. 22 And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

I’ve wondered why God use Adams rib to form Eve. I believe the reason God used Adam and not create her from the dust of the ground also was to show the relationship between man and women designed to be one. A man cannot degrade a women because of her gender because she was formed from a man, who was created by God. She too was formed in God’s likness.

“Women were created from the rib of man to be beside him, not from his head to top him, nor from his feet to be trampled by him, but from under his arm to be protected by him, near to his heart to be loved by him.” -Matthew Henry

  25. 1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made

  26. 18 And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
Thank God for the wonderful choice he made for men to have a help meet. God knew men were not able to do it alone so he gave us a life partner to work hand in hand with. God is Good!

  27. Genesis2:16-17 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying,Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: 17) But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

  28. V 4&5
    God made the earth and the heavens, and every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew;

Wow! Look at how great my God is! These two verses tell me of my worth. God knew of me before I was ever created.

  29. 17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

We need to repent everyday because we sin everyday and if we’re repenting and sinning the same sin again the next day then we’re just saying we’re sorry for what we did we have to repent and turn away from that sin!!

  30. 24 This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.

A simple concept, man and woman united together. Society don’t want to accept this simple concept, that man and woman are to be in holy matrimony and multiply the earth.

  31. 7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Some people think that they don’t need God in their lives and that they are in control of their choices. The truth is that with out God we can’t even breathe. It is because of God that we live and move and have our being.

  32. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

God gave us commandments to protect us. If we would follow them we will be better off.

  33. “And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.” The word of Jesus (God) is full of why, how, and the purpose thereof, which one is wise to heed. Dear God, help me to be mindful and obedient to all of your word; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In GOD we trust”. “One Nation under GOD, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all”. What a mighty GOD we serve! Thank GOD for his word. GOD bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in JESUS name, Amen!

  34. “No rest for the weary”

2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

I read this verse and the quote “No rest for the weary” came to mind so I googled it. The definition is one’s heavy workload or lack of tranquility is due to one’s own choices, or to one’s sinful life.

We must understand that for 6 days God spoke things into existence and it happened. He labored and implemented things that would fulfill his plan for humanity.

If we find ourselves trying to call those things that are not as though they where and nothing is happening, or maybe you we are in motion yet going no where in Him, are we living out the quote of “no rest for the weary” or living out God’s example of work and labor and then rest in Him.

Our choices and lifestyle in the 6 days determine the harvest of the 7th day. If we are good and obedient we eat the good of the land yet on the other hand if we are living sin we will also eat but it wont be good. We will try to rest but wake up worse than before because the reality is if you are weary for 6 days you will be weary in the 7th day of rest. Yet if you are victorious during the labor you will be victorious in the rest as well.

  35. Genesis 2:8-9
And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

Eden means pleasure and garden refers to an enclosure. God created pleasure, he is not a God of all work and no play. But God created boundaries. Pleasure was never meant to run wild and untamed. Pleasure was contained and given a person to tend it. We must keep ourselves and our pleasure time in check.

  36. The soul is that part of us that is life. The life-principle was the breath or Spirit of God.

Gen.2:7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the
breath of life; and man became a living soul.

We should have a desire for a deeper fellowship and communion with God.
Psalm 25:1Unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.

  37. vss 16-17. A nd the LORD GOD commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

    Humanity still has
the freedom to obey or rebel but we will suffer the consequences of such choices.
I’m so thankful that JESUS still can make us whole . We maybe broken but GOD gives us many convenantal opportunities simply because HE had chosen to enter into agreements with sinful humanity..
GOD’S GRACIOUS LOVE sought for ways to continually interact with HIS creation. ONLY GOD can bring us fredoom from the bondage of sin.
HE WAS THE PERFECT LAMB . We now have redemption by way of the cross.

  38. Men. Work then wife

It should be noted that 2 things are apparent before God let Adam have a partner. 1) Adam had communion with God. 2) Adam worked in the garden. After these two things, God made A companion for Adam.

  39. “By the seventh day God had finished his work. On the seventh day he rested from all his work. God blessed the seventh day. He made it a Holy Day Because on that day he rested from his work, all the creating God had done. This is the story of how it all started, of Heaven and Earth when they were created.”
    ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭2:2-4‬ ‭MSG

Work first and then play later. It does no good to play all day and not accomplish anything. Rest comes to those who work not for those who are lazy

  40. 7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Jesus is still doing that if He doesn’t give us the breathe of life we are not living. It’s sad to think that everything we do is because of us but we are so wrong. Jesus is life and without Him we wouldn’t be here,

  41. 5 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.

Wow! He made all the plants, before they had seeds, and before they had rain to be watered by…

  42. “And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.”
    ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭2:9, 19

God created everything out of the dust and dirt So that we would have dominion over it. Even the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. We are to have dominion over our knowledge of good and evil as well.

  43. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

For every thing that God tells us not to do, there is so much more freedom that he gives us in him. We often miss this as we end up focusing on the thing that God is telling is not to do and we end up rebelling because we don’t wanna feel restricted. Don’t see the restriction, see the freedom that God gives us when we listen to his word!

  44. Rested 1. Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. Ps. 33 : 6 2. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. 3. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
