Genesis 3

1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:

3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

8 And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden.

9 And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.

11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?

12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.

13 And the Lord God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

14 And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;

18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;

19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

20 And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.

21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

22 And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

23 Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.

24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

  1. 4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

Satan lie to us and if we believe his lies it will cause us to fall. We must stay in close communion with Jesus in order to be able to discern the truth.

  2. Verse 5 AMP “For God knows that on the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened [that is, you will have greater awareness], and you will be like God, knowing [the difference between] good and evil.” Eve thought she wanted to know it all; but, she had no idea what that entailed. In being a PK, I have seen many come through wanting the “high position”; but, many have no idea what that responsibility entails. Be careful what you desire or wish for. Seek the Lord’s will and be patiently obedient in what the Lord has for you.

  3. 5. For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened , and ye shall be as gods, knowing both good and evil.

When you go against the instruction of God you are rebelling, you start to exalt yourself higher than you do God and become your own god. You begin to worship yourself

  4. Pray for discernment !!!!!!

    1. Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made.

In its simplest definition, discernment is nothing more than the ability to decide between truth and error, right and wrong.

We must have such a close relationship with God that we can tell when the enemy is up to something. Now, in this case Eve was not as ignorant for when the serpent tells her what God has said she corrects the serpent and tells the serpent “no God said we can eat of ALL the trees except for one”. That should of been the end of th discussion but some of us have the problem of continuing to argue or convers with the enemy. God gave Women and her seed power to bruise the head of th serpent USE IT!!!!! Rebuke him in n the Highest Name of Jesus Christ, stomp him, and shot his mouth up with your faith and walk away. Do not entertain him, nor his conversation or you will finish sinning and playing the blaming game, and worse curse for life never to bast in His Holy presence. I couldn’t live without Him, without being able to be at His feet entertaining my God and Savior feeling His presence so strong that you can feel His sweet caress. Why put that in danger for one second of pleasure that only leads to death. Help us oh Lord to discern, to not entertaining the enemy talks, to stand firm on your word and NEVER depart your sweet presence. In The Name of Jesus Christ AMEN

  5. iLove to eat more Word
21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them.
The first animal sacrifice is found here in the Bible and it was instigated by God himself. Boom, in your face PETA

  6. 9. And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

    10. And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.

This is where Adam begins to learn that you can’t hide yourself or your sin from God…a lesson we would do well to remember.

  7. A simple request is hard to follow. It takes a lot self discipline to keep yourself from things that look good but you know is harmful for you.

19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

So because of Adam I have to go to work today.

  8. “It’s only the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden that we are not allowed to eat. God said, ‘You must not eat it or even touch it; if you do, you will die.’”

“God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.” The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too. (‭Genesis‬ ‭3‬:‭3, 5-6‬ NLT)

Who’s voice will you listen to today? Be careful….. The wages of sin will bring forth death. Cut off from the promises that GOD had only for you. SMH!!!!

  9. A world without deception; can you imagine? What would it be like to live in a world that does not deceive, lie or cheat? Not a perfect world, as people we make mistakes. The original sin was the serpent deceiving Eve. There are many things that can be said about Eve and Adam and their poor choices. Today, though, think about a world where lying does not exist. Brutal truth is all anyone knows. What is the price for this car? Will these shoes hurt my feet? Does this article of clothing make me look fat?

Did Eve learn deception from the serpent or is deception built into being a human? God made man to have a free will. Is part of having a free will the inherent feelings of regret and shame when we make poor decisions as the natural response to compensate for our short-comings? I believe deception is part of being human. No one teaches children to be selfish or deceive. They do it naturally.

  10. MSG 22 God said, “The Man has become like one of us, capable of knowing everything, ranging from good to evil. What if he now should reach out and take fruit from the Tree-of-Life and eat, and live forever? Never—this cannot happen!”

The ability to choose and make right or wrong decisions from now on. We realize what sin is, and to make moral choices in our life. Even though we are born into sin, God still gave us another chance to choose righteousness.

  11. 1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made.

    Know the Word
    Know the enemies strategies

    The first attack from the adversary will be to QUESTION God’s Word. Which you can find in the first verse. The Message version reads;

The serpent was clever, more clever than any wild animal God had made. He spoke to the Woman: “Do I understand that God told you not to eat from any tree in the garden?”

Besides the fact that Eve was at the tree, she answered the serpent. In doing so, she allowed the serpent to know that she did not know exactly what God had commanded. This is why it is crucial we MUST KNOW His Word!

In verse 2 she states “Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die”

Genesis 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

She added “neither shall ye touch it”; we can not add or take away from the Word of God! Once the serpent knew Eve didn’t know the word, he questioned and confused her understanding.

As leaders we must always be prepared, we must be aware of the attacks from the adversary, and don’t allow ourselves to freely visit temptation.

    Know the Word
    Know the enemies strategies

  12. 4 “You won’t die!” the serpent replied to the woman. (NLT)

It’s clearly a lie Eve!!! Once their eyes were opened I chuckled a little at how God approached them; the Lord already knew what had been done, yet he approached them “clueless.” The whole scenario reminded me of how parents sometimes approach children and asking very detailed questions knowing the children did wrong, yet the children deny it all and once they realize they’re busted start pointing fingers, “But she made me..!” Too bad you’re all being punished regardless of how you participated.

    Point:
God knows all, sees all, and hears all. So we just need to be obedient!

  13. Genesis 3:14 (KJV Strong’s)
14 And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

    Genesis 2:7 (KJV Strong’s)
7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

    Genesis 3:19 (KJV Strong’s)
19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

I have never seen a snake eat dirt. However little critters are a fine delicacy of the slithering serpents. So what was God speaking about?

Man was created from the dust of the ground. Satan was told he would crawl on his belly and eat the dust. This is referring to man kind. The devil is like a roaring lion walking about seeking whom he may devour. He’s chomping at the bits to start chomping on some dust. He can only get us by our living after the flesh or the dust of this earth.

How do we avoid this? By walking after the spirit.

    Galatians 5:16-17 (KJV Strong’s)
16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

Our submission to the Lord and willingness to walk in the spirit closes the door of access to the enemy.

    James 4:7 (AMP)
7 So be subject to God. Resist the devil [stand firm against him], and he will flee from you.

  14. THE QUESTION MARK

1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

Every deception is birthed in the same channel. THE QUESTION MARK. The subtle temptation of “Hath GOD said” “Hath Pastor said” “Hath mom said” “Hath dad said” “hath teacher said”.

GOD is a SPIRIT and an eternal ABSOLUTE. Everything will pass away, BUT the WORD of GOD will endure forever. Therefore we are wise and prudent to obey the WORD of GOD regardless of the question or the source of the question. Consider the fact that Eve knew GOD, but listened to a total STRANGER. Adam knew GOD but listened to someone he was leading. Questions come from all directions and we must be prepared to answer questions with the WORD of GOD.

THE QUESTION MARK after THE QUESTION MARK

9 And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?

Remember the LORD JESUS will always have THE final QUESTION MARK.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  15. Yesterday – Genesis 2:16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Today – Genesis 3:2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:

3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

The difference in a just one day. God had spoken and given clear instructions, then just one day later the instructions had been twisted and embellished, and the outcome of those actions has placed all of us in the bowels of sin.

It is so important that we don’t twist, add to or embellish what the Lord tells us, because although it may make us look good or important at the time, or even in control, it could have eternal consequences that cannot be undone.

Speak truth, speak only truth, don’t distort, don’t embellish, don’t add to and don’t take away is an excellent rule to live by.

  16. 1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made.

The serpent has the same old tricks and when we don’t know the Word of God we make it easy on ourselves to be deceived

  17. Do not listen to the voice of your adversary!!

When we begin to listen to our enemies, he will fill our heads with lies.
He will try and tempt us into sinning, tell us we are not good enough, and that we’ve went to far. But we mustn’t listen to his lies for his only goal is to destroy us! We should be aware that our enemy is around trying to bring us down, and we should prepare our hearts and minds to resist his temptations!!

  18. 22 And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
We were not intended to live forever. The physical death was going to happen no matter what, otherwise there would not have been a tree of life. The death God us speaking of is a spiritual death because they had sinned.

  19. “Sin will take you further than you want to go”
Gen. 3:6, “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband that was with her; and he did eat.”

“Sin will keep you longer tan you want to stay”
Gen. 3:8, “And they heard the voice of God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden.”

“Sin will cost you more than you want to pay”
Gen. 3:23 & 24a, “Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. So he drove out the man…”

Remember the old saying, “You can run, but you can’t hide?” Well, there is no running or hiding from God for He knows and sees all things.

  20. Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, Did God really say, You must not or eat fromany tree in the garden? The woman said to the serpent We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden and you must not touch it, or you will die.

  21. Genesis 3:9 And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

God always seeks out man,in the sense that He solicits a response from His Creation now separated from Him by sin Thus God comes asking questions, not making accusations.

  22. The two choices.

And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

The tree of knowledge of good and evil, and the tree of Life.
On brings death the other brings life.
We all have the choice to make. Life or death? That is the question.

  23. 20 And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.

The woman remained nameless until God told her she would have children then she was named eve, mother of all living. She became the first mother, without her there would be no other living people. Adam did not name her for her past or her mistake, he named her for her future and who she was going to be. She may have brought pain into her childbirth but God said she would have children, that was a promise to her. Adam looked past her past and called her by her promise. We need to see ourselves and others that Christ has saved from sin as forgiven. We are not who we use to be. We are not our mistakes. We are forgiven, we have promise. We have a future.

  24. 4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

The devil is a lie! From the beginning of time the enemy has been lying to the people of God trying to persuade us that what God says is not true. But he is a lair if God said it you can believe it. God cannot lie!

  25. 4)And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

Prayer and communication with Jesus would help us to know what’s the truth and what’s a lie. The devil is constantly whispering things in our ear that aren’t true to take us off of the path that God has for us. Keeping in touch with God would help us to derail those lies.

  26. 8 And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden.

Sin makes you ashamed. You find yourself hiding from Gods presence. Not able to be involved in worship. Spiritually dead.

  27. 6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
To me it’s just eye opening to know that Adam was with her. It’s not like she did it secretly but did it next to him. Makes me wonder why he didn’t tell her anything if they knew that God had told them not to eat from it. The world is still like that today we don’t have to learn to be bad but to be good, As wives we should always pray for our husbands because they are our household rulers and if the devil gets a hold of him he has a hold of your family. The woman and men are one and cannot function without each other, I have seen many husbands step down and let the wife rule and it’s disappointing to see that because God wants to use them both greatly but will not work because God prefers obedience over anything. Hallelujah Jesus!!!!

  28. 8 And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden.

They heard the voice of God walking… What a mighty, awesome God we serve. Not only did he make the universe and everything, but to hear His voice so clearly….

  29. “And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?” The key to this chapter is “who told thee”. The Creator (Jesus) as all can read placed everything in order, when that order is changed then the question is “who told thee”. The word of God (Jesus) is clear if one will but hear; the problem is listening to voices that are not of God, which again “who told thee”. Dear God stop up the voice of the deceiver (satan) so that I may hear you clearly; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In GOD we trust”. “One Nation under GOD, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all”. What a mighty GOD we serve! Thank GOD for his word. GOD bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in JESUS name, Amen!

  30. l
3:1 Now the serpent was more shrewd than any of the wild animals that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Is it really true that God said, ‘You must not eat from any tree of the orchard’?”

Eat of any tree? The question, posed in a way to entice defense, allows Eve to bring up the topic of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. This allows the serpent to suggest doubt and tempt Eve.

  31. “GOD said, “The Man has become like one of us, capable of knowing everything, ranging from good to evil. What if he now should reach out and take fruit from the Tree-of-Life and eat, and live forever? Never—this cannot happen!” So GOD expelled them from the Garden of Eden and sent them to work the ground, the same dirt out of which they’d been made. He threw them out of the garden and stationed angel-cherubim and a revolving sword of fire east of it, guarding the path to the Tree-of-Life.”
    ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭3:22-24‬ ‭MSG‬‬

God expelled Adam and Eve for their protection. God may remove you from situations or from people because He sees the danger that lies ahead for you. Don’t get mad at God when He changes your convenient and comfortable life, instead thank Him for protecting you. He may just be saving your life!

  32. “The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the LORD God had made. One day he asked the woman, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?””
    ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭3:1‬ ‭NLT‬‬

This is the first method of attack from the enemy. He will always make you question the Word of God. We must not give place to the devil or even make provision for sin.

  33. vss. 7-8 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked: and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves apons.
And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.

This is what sin brings separation from GOD’ s presence both NOW as well as eternally. Sin will destroy us unless we’re rescued from its powerful clutches.
Thank you JESUS for resucing us from sin’s conquences and restored our honor, worth, and reputation.

  34. “And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.”
    ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭3:22-23‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Sometimes the consequences to our actions are more than we exspect. After they ate of the fruit they thought they would know things, but the reaction to their behavior was different than they thought. They were put out so that they would not be tempted to eat from the tree of life. Their actions caused blood to be shed to cover them in death and their home was taken from them. These things put into motion the need for Jesus to die for our sins. In this way the eating of the fruit caused Jesus’s blood to be shed to cover our sins and then give us eternal life. Even though we are out of the garden, when we come to the knowledge and walk with him we can partake in the tree of life through Christ’s resurrection from the dead.

  35. 1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

One of the greatest attacks we will face is that of the devil attempting to bring confusion and make us doubt and question the aire of God. The enemy by raising a question is trying to engage your thoughts and your thinking process. Don’t give place for him to come into your mind. Stand firm on the word of God. Renew your mind in the scriptures study the real so close that when the fake deception of the enemy comes you answer with the true Word of God. You lying devil, it is written….

  36. Now you what we should be doing to those snakes, the devil and his demons. “Stomp that devil”…..bruise his head!

15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

“Pray for this nation, and bless Israel”…………

  37. 1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made.

Satan baits us with half truths, but I am reminded that Jesus used the Word of God to answer him in every temptation: “it is written…” We must know and use God’s Word whether we have a question and especially if doubt comes at you.

  38. 1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

The devil will always try to tell us half truths to deceive us and make us question the Word of God, because He is trying to make us doubt and fall. We must be firm in God’s Word and know the truth so that there isn’t any doubt because when there is doubt we do not show trust in God.

  39. 4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

Be careful what you let people and voices in your head tell you. The devil has a plan for each one of us to deceive us and have us backslide away from God. He knew just how to deceive Eve and he accomplished that. Keep the word close to your heart and you will know when something isn’t from God.

  40. Fruit 2. And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: 3.
