Genesis 5

1 This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;

2 Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.

3 And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, and after his image; and called his name Seth:

4 And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters:

5 And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.

6 And Seth lived an hundred and five years, and begat Enos:

7 And Seth lived after he begat Enos eight hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters:

8 And all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years: and he died.

9 And Enos lived ninety years, and begat Cainan:

10 And Enos lived after he begat Cainan eight hundred and fifteen years, and begat sons and daughters:

11 And all the days of Enos were nine hundred and five years: and he died.

12 And Cainan lived seventy years and begat Mahalaleel:

13 And Cainan lived after he begat Mahalaleel eight hundred and forty years, and begat sons and daughters:

14 And all the days of Cainan were nine hundred and ten years: and he died.

15 And Mahalaleel lived sixty and five years, and begat Jared:

16 And Mahalaleel lived after he begat Jared eight hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters:

17 And all the days of Mahalaleel were eight hundred ninety and five years: and he died.

18 And Jared lived an hundred sixty and two years, and he begat Enoch:

19 And Jared lived after he begat Enoch eight hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:

20 And all the days of Jared were nine hundred sixty and two years: and he died.

21 And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah:

22 And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:

23 And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years:

24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

25 And Methuselah lived an hundred eighty and seven years, and begat Lamech.

26 And Methuselah lived after he begat Lamech seven hundred eighty and two years, and begat sons and daughters:

27 And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years: and he died.

28 And Lamech lived an hundred eighty and two years, and begat a son:

29 And he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the Lord hath cursed.

30 And Lamech lived after he begat Noah five hundred ninety and five years, and begat sons and daughters:

31 And all the days of Lamech were seven hundred seventy and seven years: and he died.

32 And Noah was five hundred years old: and Noah begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

  1. Verses 1-2 MSG “This is the family tree of the human race: When God created the human race, he made it godlike, with a nature akin to God. He created both male and female and blessed them, the whole human race.” We are blessed! I heard just the other day in the news about how they say that people are now living longer; but, they really don’t have a clue as to what longer is!

  2. Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day they were created.

God blessed Adam and Eve with generations.

  3. Wow, I can’t stand the idea of all those wrinkles they must of had. And by the way what was their diet and did they go to the local gym. Isn’t that amazing to live that long. But, you know I rather be in our time frame so we won’t be away from my God that long on this planet! Yup….I don’t want to live that long. But, when this body has been replaced with the one glorified body. No more flesh, no devil, no disease, no pain, no evil, no darkness, no theif. Praise God, Glory, Hallelujah…..

5 And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.
    ———————————————————————
Correct me if I’m wrong but could it be that Enoch & Elijah are the two witness/prophets of God that will return to warn at the end times for the Lord. It clearly indicates the God took Enoch. Just like Ellijah rode away in a chariot of fire.

23 And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years:

24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

    “Stay Tuned”………………..there will be more.

  4. Relationship matters!

After the birth of Methuselah, Enoch lived in close fellowship with God for another 300 years, and he had other sons and daughters.

walking in close fellowship with God. Then one day he disappeared, because God took him. (‭Genesis‬ ‭5‬:‭22, 24‬ NLT)

What a beautiful relationship between man and his creator. That is exactly what The Lord desires from us all. Pure relationship with each one of us. What a heritage did Enoch leave for his children, and grandchildren. What a blessing it is to see your husband living for GOD wholehearted! This man went MIA but unto the The Lord. I’m sure his family didn’t need to worry about where he was at(spiritually), they were confident he was with GOD! As you can see as we truly walk with The Lord, without a doubt He will take care of your family!!!!!

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. (‭John‬ ‭4‬:‭23-24‬ KJV)

  5. Genesis 5:23-24 AMP
Enoch lived 365 years, walking in close fellowship with God. And then one day he disappeared because God took him.

If Enoch can fellowship with God closely for 365 years, what keeps us from walking closely 365 days? Can you imagine where God will translate you when you don’t stop seeking him? When you don’t stop talking with God? Enoch communed so closely that God didn’t even let him taste death. Can you imagine the depth of such a relationship? That wasn’t just for Enoch! We need to take after such an example, because trying times are coming and Jesus IS coming for His Church. The question is WILL YOU BE TRANSLATED? Lord, I praise you, God. Order our steps. Breath into this flame, make it errupt with passion for you! In Jesus name!

  6. 24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

To have a walk with God that he takes you. Wow. What does that show me about my walk with God? I have a long ways to go. But thank you Jesus for love and mercy to die for my sins upon the cross.

  7. To be Taken by God!!!!!!

Enoch did not die, he walked with God for 365 years. He commune with God, walked with Him, in His company for so long. We should be ashamed, some of us can’t even make it 365 days. God enjoyed His company so much He decided to keep him. Who can be so blessed never to have to wait for the rapture, but that God would delight Himself in your company so much that He will rapture you alone, no death involved, no judgement, just taken to Glory to vast in His Presence forever. We all should learn from Enoch!!!! There is no other place I rather be that in the Presence of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!!!

  8. IT is important to know where we came from, but it is more important to know where we are going. Heaven should be our goal. we should follow Jesus’ commandments to make sure we make it.

  9. MORE BLESSED

2 Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.

GOD created man and BLESSED them. LIFE is not intended to be cursed. The laws of sin have caused the curse on mankind. The wages or payment for sin is death; death to innocence, death to righteousness and death to the promised blessedness of GOD.

We are MORE BLESSED when we trust, follow and obey JESUS though HIS WORD, SPIRIT and MAN.

GOD made you to BLESS YOU!

    Get UP!
    Look UP!
    Pray UP!
    Give UP!
    Show UP!
    Grow UP!

You are MORE BLESSED today in JESUS name!

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  10. 29 And he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the Lord hath cursed.

I wonder if Lamech knew what Noah was going to endure for God’s glory.
I wonder if Lamech prepared his son, instructing him “no matter what people think Noah, just obey God”.

Lamech must have developed an obedient attitude in Noah, and for that lesson we are here today.

  11. 2. Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.

Notice that when God created them He named them together as one, showing they should be together in unity as one flesh. Adam is the one who later called his wife Eve.

    Genesis 3:20 KJV
And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.

    Genesis 2:24 KJV
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

    Mark 10:6-8 KJV
    6. But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female

    7. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife;

    8. And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.

As a side note, God did not create male and male nor female and female. Nowhere do the scriptures say that a man shall cleave unto his husband nor a woman shall cleave unto her wife!!

  12. Is your name in the book?

I have never been one for public recognition or one who wants to be in the spot light. According to the definition, introverts tend to be preoccupied with their own thoughts and feelings and minimize their contact with other people. This is me in a nut shell. However, my preoccupation with my own thoughts and feelings are not generally about me and my life. My thoughts are more generally about what I perceive other people are thinking or feeling. So, what does this have to do with names in the book?

Revelation 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. God made us who we are. Whether we are “loners” or “people-people” we have a responsibility to this world to share the story of Jesus. Let’s use the personality that God gave us (individually) to reach someone in our own special way.

  13. Genesis 5:29 (KJV Strong’s)
29 And he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the Lord hath cursed.

The name of Noah means rest. Lamech prophesied that his son would bring comfort. He would bring relief because of the cursed ground. I am sure that Lamech had his own thoughts and presuppositions of this prophesy. Little did he know that comfort would comes after the entire human species was eradicated except for 8 people.

Judgement brings comfort for the righteous and justice to the wicked.

    Proverbs 14:34 (KJV Strong’s)
    34 Righteousness exalteth a nation:
but sin is a reproach to any people.

  14. 2 He created them male and female, and he blessed them and called them “human.” (NLT)

We are blessed! There could’ve been any other word there, but God chose each one of us and has blessed us.

  15. Gen. 5:24
“And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.”

    Heb. 11:5
“By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found , because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.”

Enoch had such a close relationship with God that his testimony was that he pleased God. Therefore, he never saw death, and God just took him out of this world.
One day, if we have a close relationship with God, and our testimony is that we please God, we are going to hear the trump of God sound, and we will be taken out of this world to just like Enoch was.

    1 Thess. 4:16-17
“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”

  16. iLove to eat More Word

17 And all the days of Mahalaleel were eight hundred ninety and five years: and he died.
18 And Jared lived an hundred sixty and two years, and he begat Enoch:
19 And Jared lived after he begat Enoch eight hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:

    Mahalalel H4111
    mahălal’êl
    mah-hal-al-ale’
From H4110 and H410; praise of God; Mahalalel, the name of an antediluvian patriarch and of an Israelite: – Mahalaleel.

We notice here that the name of Mahalalel in the Word of God means “Praise of God”. It is strange that this man that was named “Praise of God” would give his son the name Jared which means the following…
    yârad
    yaw-rad’
A primitive root; to descend (literally to go downwards; or conventionally to a lower region, as the shore, a boundary, the enemy, etc.; or figuratively to fall); causatively to bring down (in all the above applications)

Why would he give his son a backsliding name…not sure but there comes something good out of this family situation, he turned around and named his son Enoch which means the following,
    chânak
    khaw-nak’
A primitive root; properly to narrow (compare H2614); figuratively to initiate or discipline: – dedicate, train up.

Enoch apparently took his name to heart and received discipline and followed God close enough to be taken off the earth in fellowship with God.

Let’s all become disciples so that we can have great fellowship with Jesus.

  17. 24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him

Enoch dont worry about this life come with me i have a better place.

  18. 22 And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:

23 And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years:

24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

God loves, remembers, and records us all; same as he has always done. But something that Enoch did was right. Something that Enoch did, the way that he lived was out of the ordinary. So much so that the Creator not only took him up to be with him but he paused the story just to say that Enoch walked with God.

I’m sure Enoch loved God and went above and beyond the ordinary to please God. If he hadn’t, then the writer would have just said how old he lived to be, how many sons and daughters he had and moved on. But he didn’t. He took the time to mention, and to record for all eternity that Enoch walked with God.

When you truly love and worship God, HE notices. And when you truly walk with God, others notice also.

  19. 24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

When you have a true walk with God, and place your life in His hands, He will take you to places you never imagined!

  20. 24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

The first man who “walked with God’ was taken by God or translated. The only other account in the bible is of Elijah (2 Ki 2:11) who was taken up to heaven in a chariot of fire in a whirlwind. “And he say Elijah no more” (2Ki 2:12) the same way Enoch was no not. Both men of God were in this world but for a short season but it was what they accomplished here that God decided to take them up to heaven. They had fulfilled their purpose here. Whenever the taking away (rapture) day comes it will be when He is ready to call us His bride home until then we are to walk with God as Enoch and Elijah did.

  21. 2He created them male and female, and he blessed them and called them “human.”

We are humans, but science wants to categorize us as animals, and make us part of the animal kingdom. I always reject there concept. We humans have a purpose in life and have the ability to choose and know the difference between good and evil.

  22. Many cultures have stories of long.lives for ancestors who lived prior to a great flood. Some have suggested that heavy cloud cover then may have cut. off the radiation we know today is associated with aging.

  23. 22 And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:

Several generation after Adam and Eve were put out of the garden we find the statement “And Enoch walked with God.” How to have a relationship with the Lord must have been passed from generation to generation so that Enoch’s generation would know what it would take to have a relationship and walk with the Lord. His relationship with God was so special that God took him….and he was not.

What legacy are we leaving for our children and children’s children. Do they know how to live for the Lord? Do they know Jesus for themselves? Can they get an answer from God if they need it?

So many people are caught up in this world and buying, doing and having the latest and greatest, but the most important thing we could ever pass down to our children/grandchildren etc is how to know Jesus!

  24. 24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

Enoch could very well be one of the two witnesses we read of in Revelations simply because he has been alive from almost the very beginning. Elijah was also taken up alive in years to come. Both men pleased God with their walk or relationship they established with God so much that he translated them into Heaven!

  25. Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away. NIV

Wow!!! This is pretty hard core…to walk faithfully with God then God took him away. The bible says he walked faithfully 300 years but lived 365 years…I thank God for still having the passion and fear towards God because if we let ourselves we can get so wrapped up with work, school, family, kids, extra curricular activities, time, etc. it can consume us so much that we may not have any time for God!!! I hear this once…you expect for God to work full time for you when you only work part time for Him. When I heard that I was like OUCH!!! its so true!!! sometimes as humans we think about our future and think everything we do is because of us but GOD IS IN CONTROL of everything!!! lets focus on God first and the rest shall be put upon us!!! JESUS PLANS ARE ALWAYS BETTER THAN OUR PLANS!!! HALLELUJAH FOR THAT!!! We don’t know the time when were going to have our last breathe….Life is to short but ETERNITY IS FOREVER!!!

  26. v24. And Enoch walked with God: and was not; for God took him.

We must continue walking in and rejoicing in truth and godliness until JESUS comes hiding HIS WORD in our hearts daily as we continue to learn how to live as begotten sons and daughters.

  27. And Noah was five hundred years old crazy at this old age that God uses him and that’s not even the age he builds the ark this proves that god can use you at any age

  28. The generations must live on. If we are to keep this gospel going, we must make sure our children are taught the truth. The gospel needs to be told from generation to generation.

  29. With each passing generation one thing remained true, they were fruitful. None of the generations listed failed to complete the command to be fruitful and multiply.
It is important that as the church we keep ourselves right with the word if God and multiply His word in us and multiply it. Develop our lives as add n example for others and teach them to pattern their lives after the Word of God.

  30. “And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.” The previous chapter lets one know who the earthly father of Enoch was, which supports the fact that everyone is their own person. Much like the fact that each individual must have their own relationship with the Jesus (Creator); as the Judge (Jesus) will decide where one spends eternity. Dear God, let me find your mercy so that I might hear well done, one day; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In GOD we trust”. “One Nation under GOD, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all”. What a mighty GOD we serve! Thank GOD for his word. GOD bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in JESUS name, Amen!

  31. 2 And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:

23 And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years:

24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

Not a lot said about Enoch but rather one important point in His life is higlighted. He walked with God. In a natural sense when you are walking with someone you are taking the same road going on the same durectjon. With that one can incas that Enoch was a man so close to God that where ever God would go Enoch was there. He pleased God and God just took him.

  32. Blessed Generations

    1 This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;

2 Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.

When we were born again into the church, we did not simply gain some interesting title or “merit badge” to display. We became part of the family of God, by His blood, under His name, and to grow in His likeness. We do not come to His church to face trials and hardships and then wither away to die; we come and are blessed, and grow.

    Genesis 48:10, 15-16
10 Jacob was half blind because of his age and could hardly see. So Joseph brought the boys close to him, and Jacob kissed and embraced them.

15 Then he blessed Joseph and said,“ May the God before whom my grandfather Abraham and my father, Isaac, walked—the God who has been my shepherd all my life, to this very day,

16 the Angel who has redeemed me from all harm—may he bless these boys. May they preserve my name and the names of Abraham and Isaac. And may their descendants multiply greatly throughout the earth.”

  33. 22 And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:

23 And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years:

24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

Never before did I pay attention to this until now, many people lived in that time and some lives over 900 years, which is crazy long. My first child was born when I was 26 years old, that’s almost 60 years before anyone mentioned had a child, that’s crazy. Just a thought.

The other thing that I saw that just jumped out at me, the only one the scriptures mention that walked with God, was the only one that did not die. What a hope this gives me, to know that is I walk with God I will not die. My flesh might die but I will be asleep waiting for my redeemer to rapture me. Wow, how even before the law and the prophets, before churches, and all of their things we have available to us, all you have to do is turn away from this world and walk with God.

  34. “Enoch walked with God. Then he couldn’t be found, because God took him from this life.”
    ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭5:24‬ ‭NIRV‬

To be known as one who walked with God is a high honor. I pray that our new believers would learn to walk with God in an intimate way. God give them a desire for your Word.

  35. Reading this chapter I see the biggest assembly of old people ever!

But to be serious now, this shows how we can’t live and we can’t breathe without God. No way can any of us live to be that old today, only because God decreed we would live shorter lives. But it shows God could keep us alive for hundreds of years if he wanted to. He holds our every breath in his hands.

  36. Seth born 1. THIS is the book of the generations of Ad’-am . In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him; Gen. 1 : 26 2. Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Ad’-am, in the day when they were cre-ated. 3. And Ad’-am lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, and after his image; and called his name Seth: Gen. 4 : 25
