Genesis 15

1 After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.

2 And Abram said, Lord God, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?

3 And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.

4 And, behold, the word of the Lord came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.

5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.

6 And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness.

7 And he said unto him, I am the Lord that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it.

8 And he said, Lord God, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?

9 And he said unto him, Take me an heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon.

10 And he took unto him all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid each piece one against another: but the birds divided he not.

11 And when the fowls came down upon the carcases, Abram drove them away.

12 And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him.

13 And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;

14 And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.

15 And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.

16 But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.

17 And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces.

18 In the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:

19 The Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites,

20 And the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaims,

21 And the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.

  1. 5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.

In like manner can we number our blessings? Every breathe we take, every step, every key stroke on the keyboard, etc… Some may have to read this blog post using brail. Maybe we are sharing this morning’s blog with our spouse, children or other family members. Maybe we are alone. How can we count our blessings? How can we limit God to what our mind conceives as blessings? Were we spared from a car accident that we did not even know about? Is our vehicle running on fumes longer than the manufacturer intended? As God told Abram to count the stars “So shall thy seed be” try counting your blessings…

  2. 15 After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram, I am your shield; Your reward [for obedience] shall be very great.” (AMP)

As long as we are obedient, the Lords got our back and will bless us!

  3. 1 After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
God promises Abram then immediately Abram doubts God. Even the greatest men and women of God will doubt Him. This does not make it okay for us doubt God, but it happens regardless. Through our doubt, God assures every thing within us. The belief in God and what He said He will do is important. Believing in God shows that you trust Him.

  4. gen.15.18.kjv In the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:

He has given us FORT WORTH TEXAS!!!

  5. He Gives and Takes Away

18 In the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:

When our God gives no one can take it away!!! At the same time when he takes away nothing or no one can stop Him from doing so. I am thankful for all He has given me and for all He had taken away. I am thankful for my God is the most excellent God. Help us Lord accept your will in our lives In Jesus Name AMEN!!!!!

  6. God had promised Abram land and God new that people will grow wicked and need to be punished . Witch would invite taking there land and giving it to Abrams descendants . God was giving them time to repent but knew they wouldn’t , so why did he send this vision to Abram ? Gods covenant was serious . It’s was a huge promise by his and big responsibility for Abram . God followed on his promises , and gods passing through the pieces was a visible assurance to Abram the Covenant God had made was real .
We have been given Fort Worth

  7. 2 And Abram said, Lord God, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?

3 And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.

4 And, behold, the word of the Lord came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.

5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.

Abram had no physical proof of the promise to come but he held on the the word of the Lord and beloved it to be truth. That’s faith

  8. Gen. 15:4-6 (NLT)
    4) Then the Lord said unto him, No, your servant will not be your heir, for you will have a son of your own who will be your heir.
    5) Then the Lord took Abram outside and said unto him, Look up into the sky and count the stars if you can. That’s how many descendants you will have!
    6) And Abram believed the Lord, and the Lord counted him as righteous because of his faith.

God gave Abram a promise that his heir would be his own child, and his descendants would be innumeralable. Abram believed God. What’s amazing is it took 15 years for this promise to be fulfilled, yet it did come to pass.
I remember when I was told I would never have children. When I began praying for a child, one day the Lord spoke to me and gave me a promise of a son. I believed God. It took 2 years for my promise from God to be fulfilled, and I thank God for Timothy everyday.

So, if God has given you a promise, just believe, trust, and have faith, and it will come to pass. ( maybe not in your timing, but in God’s timing)

  9. 1 After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.

  10. And Abram believed the Lord , and the Lord counted him as righteous because of his faith.
    Genesis 15:6 NLT
    http://bible.com/116/gen.15.6.NLT

When we believe the Lord it is counted as righteousness. So this would imply that unbelief makes us unrighteous. May the Lord help us with any unbelief. Like that father whom Jesus asked do you believe? Anything is possible to him that believes. Lord I believe help mine unbelief. May that be the cry of our hearts if we struggle with this, may He find faith in us and count us as righteousness.

  11. 1 After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.

5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.

6 And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness.

Fear not, for God has given us a promise! All we have to do is obey and put our trust in Him and he will give us more blessings than we can count! What a mighty and faithful God we serve!!

  12. 1 After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.

6 And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness.

Fear not, for God has given us a promise. To receive that promise all we have to is obey and trust in Him, and he will give us more blessings than we can count! What a mighty and faithful God we serve!!

  13. Genesis 15:1 After this the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision. Do not be afraid Abram, I am your shield yourverygreat reward. But Abram sai, Sovereign word what can you give me since I remain childless and the one who will inherit my estate is Eliezer of Damascus? And Abram said, You have given me no children, so a servant in my household will be my heir. Then the word of the Lord came to him, This manwill notbe you their but a son who is your own flesh and blood will be your heir.

  14. 2 But Abram replied, “O Sovereign LORD, what good are all your blessings when I don’t even have a son? Since you’ve given me no children, Eliezer of Damascus, a servant in my household, will inherit all my wealth. 3 You have given me no descendants of my own, so one of my servants will be my heir.”

We want the blessings of the Lord, but we also want to share those blessings with others. Basically saying, I have money but no one to share it with. This tells me, monetary things do not bring happiness. Friends and family brings happiness and joy to one’s life.

  15. 5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.

6 And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness.
Abraham was a man of faith who simply believe what God said and by doing so it was counted to him for righteousness. There its power in believing the voice of God and trusting him. ..

  16. Covenant of blood. Which was passing through the divided halves of sacrificial animals. It was the covenant God mane with Abram. God wanted Abram and us to know that when God makes a promise we may be greatly encouraged. God will never break his promises. He will.never go back on his word.

  17. 9 And he said unto him, Take me an heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon.
10 And he took unto him all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid each piece one against another: but the birds divided he not.

A sacrifice for an answer. What do you think of when we are sacrificing today? Fasting. This is what I think of. When we ask for direction and do not receive any. Sometimes a good fast will do it. It pushes out the flesh to allow the spirit to have clearer focus. Thank you Jesus for the alter of sacrifice.

  18. 1. After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.

    A. He is our shield, our defense and protector

    B. He is not only the reward giver, but also the reward itself; our exceeding great reward

  19. iLove to eat more Word

Genesis 15:1 NLT Some time later, the LORD spoke to Abram in a vision and said to him, “Do not be afraid, Abram, for I will protect you, and your reward will be great.”

Wow, what an Amazing promise from the Lord. Our God is good and by faith we can enter into the same relationship and the same promises as Abraham did. God will reward those who keep the faith.

  20. 5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.

In Abrahams childless state, God promised him the seed as the stars in the sky. Sometimes are promises start with just a small step of faith, but because we are willing to take the first step, the promises are given.

  21. The great promise.

5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.

Abram couldn’t see into our generation where his seed is multiplied spiritually. God can do much more than our minds can comprehend.

    Jeremiah 32:
27 Behold, I [am] the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?

    Ephesians 3:
19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
21 Unto him [be] glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

  22. vss 13-14 And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them gkur hundred years;
And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterwards shall they come out with great substance.

GOD IS just waiting for us to lay claim on the promises made to our forefathers.

We have assurance that the LORD has never made a promise that HE CANNOT KEEP.” GOD IS NOT A MAN, THAT HE SHOULD LIE” NUMBERS 23:19

    Claim your promise today !!!

  23. Genesis 15:11

And when the fowls came down upon the carcases, Abram drove them away.

After receiving a blessing Abraham asked how shall I know that I will Inherit the blessing?

He asked about his destiny, his future.
God responded by directing Abraham to make sacrifice unto him. Then the Ravens came.

Ravens represent the devil who tries to steal the word of God, the seed that has been planted.

Once Abraham shooed away the birds then God revealed his plan for his people in Egypt, and the deliverance.

Sometimes we are between the sacrifice and the prophecy. We are waiting to see how God will bring it to pass but then the Ravens come. If we refuse to fight off the enemy we may lose our sacrifice, and offering. The prophecy is coming but we must war for it.

  24. Heir 4. And, behold, the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir. 5. And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be. 6. And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness. Ps. 106 : 31 I Thank you Jesus !!!!

  25. But the Chaldeans were not around during the time of Abraham!?!

    You are correct!

The phrase of the Chaldeans is a later editorial clarification for the readers, designating the location of Ur. From all evidence there would have been no Chaldeans in existence at this early date; they are known in the time of the neo-Babylonian empire in the first millennium b.c.

  26. “After all these things, this word of GOD came to Abram in a vision: “Don’t be afraid, Abram. I’m your shield. Your reward will be grand!””
    ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭15:1‬ ‭MSG‬‬

God protects His own. When He makes a promise, He intends to keep it. God is faithful and alwAys on time!

  27. “And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness.” If God (Jesus) said it then it shall be, which we now know all was as God said. One need only believe, and remember the Creator’s (Jesus) time is exactly that; his time. Dear God, let me be ever mindful that you know the hour, as you are the maker of time; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In GOD we trust”. “One Nation under GOD, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all”. What a mighty GOD we serve! Thank GOD for his word. GOD bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in JESUS name, Amen!

  28. Drive Him away

11 And when the fowls came down upon the carcases, Abram drove them away.

Abraham prepared the Levitical sacrifice and obeyed God just as he instructed. It is just like the enemy, that once the sacrifice was set the fowls came to devour it. Thanks be to God that He has given us Dominion over the beast of the fields and the fowls of the air. So, when the enemy tries to come in and steAL your praise, joy, or anything else God has given you, we must be like our father Abraham and drive him away.

Praise Him when you feel it and praise Him when you dont. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!

  29. “And Abram believed the LORD, and the LORD counted him as righteous because of his faith.”
    ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭15:6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Lord, increase my faith. … I want faith that doesn’t consider the natural facts and human reasoning.

  30. 6 And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness.

AMEN!!!! When we believe in the Lord we have righteousness and know that He will guide us in everywhere we go. Jesus is the annswer to everything

  31. Verse 6 MSG ” And he believed! Believed God! God declared him “Set-Right-with-God.” Same verse AMP “Then Abram believed in (affirmed, trusted in, relied on, remained steadfast to) the Lord; and He counted (credited) it to him [b]as righteousness (doing right in regard to God and man).” We have to take that step and not question; but believe as Abram did. Just as Abram heard in his vision “Do not be afraid, Abram, I am your shield; Your reward [for obedience] shall be very great.”; we too will be blessed.

  32. 8 And he said, Lord God, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?

Abraham didn’t show disbelief in the promises of God, but instead wanted a sign a form of confirmantion that he could see God would do as he says. Their is nothing wrong with asking God to confirm his promise to us. Noah had a rainbow as a token that the Lord would never flood the earth again. We shouldn’t be so caught up in expecting one though, Jesus called the Saudecees and Pharisees “A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.” Jesus then left them and went away.”

  33. 1 After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.

No fear. The lord told him that we had going to get something and the guest thing after that it says fear not. It’s great not to have to worry about things. The joy of the lord is our strength and God has not given us a spirit of fear…

  34. Some time later, the Lord spoke to Abram in a vision and said to him, “Do not be afraid, Abram, for I will protect you, and your reward will be great.”
    Genesis 15:1 NLT

When we are in one accord with God we don’t have to worry about anything because we have security in Him. We just have to be ready to listen and have a sensitive spirit.
