Genesis 18

1 And the Lord appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day;

2 And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground,

3 And said, My Lord, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant:

4 Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree:

5 And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and comfort ye your hearts; after that ye shall pass on: for therefore are ye come to your servant. And they said, So do, as thou hast said.

6 And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes upon the hearth.

7 And Abraham ran unto the herd, and fetcht a calf tender and good, and gave it unto a young man; and he hasted to dress it.

8 And he took butter, and milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat.

9 And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent.

10 And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him.

11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.

12 Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?

13 And the Lord said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old?

14 Is any thing too hard for the Lord? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.

15 Then Sarah denied, saying, I laughed not; for she was afraid. And he said, Nay; but thou didst laugh.

16 And the men rose up from thence, and looked toward Sodom: and Abraham went with them to bring them on the way.

17 And the Lord said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do;

18 Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?

19 For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment; that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.

20 And the Lord said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous;

21 I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know.

22 And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the Lord.

23 And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?

24 Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein?

25 That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?

26 And the Lord said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.

27 And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, which am but dust and ashes:

28 Peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of five? And he said, If I find there forty and five, I will not destroy it.

29 And he spake unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for forty’s sake.

30 And he said unto him, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: Peradventure there shall thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do it, if I find thirty there.

31 And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord: Peradventure there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for twenty’s sake.

32 And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten’s sake.

33 And the Lord went his way, as soon as he had left communing with Abraham: and Abraham returned unto his place.

Abraham was a Servant to these three men.
On Western Day, our purpose is to be a Servant and Serve the Lord with gladness and Serve the people of our city. Each of us has a job to do. We are All important. We are All Servants. So when you Serve, do it as unto the Lord.

This is your day to shine as a Servant of Jesus Christ.

  2. In reading this chapter where Sarah laughed when she heard the promise of the Lord, it made me think about how sometimes we too in a way laugh (disbelieve) in our calling, in our answer, or in what the Lord has promised us. We must be bold and put our faith into action. The end of the chapter made me think of how we (POFW) must intercede for Fort Worth as Abraham interceded for Sodom. Once again we have to be bold and take this city for Jesus. Western Day….ready….set….action!

  3. iLove to eat more Word
6And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes upon the hearth.

7And Abraham ran unto the herd, and fetched a calf tender and good, and gave it unto a young man; and he hasted to dress it.

As I was reading this I couldn’t help but think how we in the 21st century would have handled this situation.

We might have walked (instead of running) into the house and asked the wife. The wife might have gotten upset for unannounced guests, and we might have rejected giving our guests a pedicure. Wow…

  4. I have singled him out so that he will direct his sons and their families to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just. Then I will do for Abraham all that I have promised.” (‭Genesis‬ ‭18‬:‭19‬ NLT)

The LORD will meet you right where you are. But, it comes through your obedience and faith in Him that will bring blessings, protection, salvation, peace, hearings. Whatever your need. The LORD will show His faithfulness to you.

  5. A servant’s heart.

2: he ran to meet them.
    6: he hastened unto Sarah
    6: make ready quickly (bread)
    7: ran unto the herd
7: hastened to dress the calf

Abraham served them men with the best that he had to give; not only of his time but with his talent and treasure. It may not have been perfect but it was done with excellence. Do we have a servant’s heart? Are we able to give the same effort this weekend to our guests as they come to Western Day? I believe we do. I believe we are ready to be tested of the Lord.

Thank you, Bro Morgan, for all your sacrifice of time, talent and treasure in preparing for Western Day 2016; the biggest and best of all POFW Western Day’s. From my perspective everything appears to be easy; and fit right into place. I know there are untold lessons learned that have given birth the system used to create this event with such precise detail. I also know there is a great support staff (likely the leader of this effort is Sis Morgan) which has helped to create this perception of ease and excellence around this event. It is going to be great! We are going to impact our community and provide an atmosphere of love and caring which will allow the Lord to change lives.

  6. 24. Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein?

    32. And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten’s sake.

Abraham knew that there was very few righteous living there, so he knew how to pray for that region. If we live with our head in the sand, unaware of the condition of the region around us, how will we know how to pray for them?

  7. GOD CAN DO ANYTHING

14 Is any thing too hard for the Lord? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.

The things that the length of time tempt us to doubt, does not mean that it is not possible. It simply means that it is not GOD’s appointed time. Our FAITH must endure unto the END. Don’t quit, don’t give up, don’t turn back.

    GOD can do ANYTHING!

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  8. 14 Is anything too hard for the Lord?…. (NLT)

God knows everything, and we are foolish to deny our actions before Him as Sarah tried to. There is nothing too hard for God! It’s time to put our faith into action and ask God to help our unbelief. We musn’t limit Him with our own understanding but let Him move as He desires.

  9. More Concious of His Presence

    1 And the Lord appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day;

What a way to receive His messenger !!!!! The way he recognize that their presence was supernatural, he received them with excitement and hosted a great welcoming. With Western Day just a few days away makes me wonder whom we would be entertaining and feeding. Let’s go with joy and receive all that come with a new excitement, feed them with reverence, and let’s be the best host ever to all that come.

Hebrew 13:2. Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels.

Thank You Jesus for this great opportunity to entertain strangers that will be great friends, sisters, and brothers. In Jesus Name Amen

  10. Genesis 18

    1 And the Lord appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day;

    The heart of a servant!

Here we see Abraham give us an example of what a man with a heart of a servant does. How different of a testimony we would have from others if we were to greet everyone with the same humility and haste.

We are demonstrating the very foundational form of leadership, being a servant. Be cannot be effective leadership without it, our leadership would be faulty if we can not serve.

Even Jesus, being God in the flesh, washed the disciples feet. Instill in me oh God a heart of a servant, to be able to serve you with gladness.

  11. 17 The Lord said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do, 18 seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? 19 For I have chosen him, that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing righteousness and justice, so that the Lord may bring to Abraham what he has promised him.”
God has made the men the head of the household, the priest in the home. It is their job to lead their families in righteousness both by teaching and by example.

  12. 32 And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten’s sake.

    For ten people.

Wow. In a whole city. Not even ten were righteous. We see how Abraham pleaded with God not to destroy the city. One man could have saved a city.

  13. Genesis 18:3 and said my lord if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away I pray thee from thy servant

  14. 14 Is any thing too hard for the Lord? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.

Amen!!!! God can move mountains and NOTHING is to hard for Him!!! I am Thankful ton know Jesus because He is the one I lean on because He is faithful!!! Thank you Jesus for everything!!!!!! Can’t wait to see the great lives He is going to change for Western Day!!!!

  15. 14 Is any thing too hard for the Lord? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.
What a powerful question and one that God still ask from time to time. The resounding answer in NO! Nothing is to hard for Him. He is the alpha and Omegahe is omnipotent He can do anything!

  16. Homosexuality. Ever biblical reference to Homosexuality it indicates that it is not an alternate lifestyle but gross sin. Also Let. 18 calls it detestable. Christians must take a stand with God’s word to reject the life style and identify it as wicked and sin.

  17. 14 Is any thing too hard for the Lord? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to

If God can create the entire universe, creating everything out of nothing, then how can He not do the impossible?  God loves to show Himself strong and to be glorified by doing what the world considers impossible.  We have a god that delights in impossibilities ,nothing is to hard for are God !!

  18. “And the Lord went his way, as soon as he had left communing with Abraham: and Abraham returned unto his place.” Abraham petitioned the Lord for their lives, which the Lord departed, after a specific number. One also has a specific number; a number of years to live, a number of times to make it right, and a number of times before the Lord will go his way. Dear God, awaken us (me) before our (my) specific number, which only you know, is up; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In GOD we trust”. “One Nation under GOD, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all”. What a mighty GOD we serve! Thank GOD for his word. GOD bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in JESUS name, Amen!

  19. 17 And the Lord said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do;

    Relationship
The Lord let Abraham know his plans of destroying Sodom because of their relationship. God knew his faith, his character and he loved this man greatly. Abraham’s character mentioned in vs 19 shows he would have taught Lot to love & obey the Lord. It was only natural for Abraham to plead for the Lord to protect his nephew – believing him to be righteous even though he had parted ways with him.
    Father Abraham had many sons…

  20. vss.18 :17-19 And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do;
Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him ?
For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.

This lets us know that GOD looks at us individually and rewards each of us openly according to our actions.

Matthew 6:4 That thine alms masy be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

    MORE PERSONAL REVELATION
Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to GOD must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

  21. 30 And he said unto him, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: Peradventure there shall thirty be found there.

The question I get from these texts when I read them is: Why did Abraham want to save these people so much? After all, it was a town full of corrupt people, unlovable by most people’s standards and people you would wanna stay away from.

Of course, Lot lived there whom Abraham cared dearly about but I don’t believe that was the only reason he was petitioning for this town. Because he asked God what would happen if there were 20 or 10, if God would save the town. If he wanted to just save Lot… then that would have been the first question to ask. But he didn’t.

Instead he asked for more people, because he wanted to save more people. He petitioned to God to have the town saved because he wanted to save the people there, everyone, including the corrupt. It’s a model on what we need to do for our city and our communities. We need to petition for them in prayer in hopes they will see the light and repent, changing their ways and turning to Jesus.

  22. God has a promise and the question is are you ready for it. The enemy will do what it takes to keep you from obtaining that promise. We have to let the enemy know that he can’t take what God has given us.

  23. The path to the promise

    Genesis 18:19

For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment; that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.

The Lord divulged his plans to destroy Sodom and Abraham responded by asking him the opportunity to intercede.

This worked and Lot and his family were spared.

Yet this didn’t happen overnight. God didn’t just trust Abraham out of the gate. He took him through many tests and trials to prove him. When God said he knew that Abraham would lead his family it was because he was already doing it.

  24. Bargaining with God

Abraham bargains with God for the deliverance of the cities. It is interesting how God appeals to his reasoning. This passage shows Gods grace more than it does judgement. For the sake of the righteous God will save a city. Powerful.

  25. “Abraham and Sarah were old by this time, very old. Sarah was far past the age for having babies. Sarah laughed within herself, “An old woman like me? Get pregnant? With this old man of a husband?””
    ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭18:11-12‬ ‭MSG‬‬

A husband is only as good as his wife. Women, we can’t stray away from supporting God and His word along with our husbands. Whatever God speaks to him is a message for you as well. Instead of mocking God and His word lets cover it in prayer. Support your husband, uplift God.

  26. 23 And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?

24 Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein?

25 That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?

26 And the Lord said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.

Here is a great example of where intercession takes place. In our times God is looking for men and women of God to stand up in the gap and pray for our regions, cities, and nations. The interesting fact to look at is that of the relationship between God and Abraham. If we take notice God let Abraham know what was going to happen with Sodom and Gomorrah in other word he let his friend know his secrets and then that is when Abraham in his way started interceding for such people because of his nephew Lot. At the end of the chapter we see how it says and the Lord went His way as soon as He had left communing with him. It is good thing to intercede but imagine the kind of power and effect your intercession comes with a great walk and relationship with God. We must commune and intercede.

  27. 2 And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground,

Abraham shows his “servanthood” attitude in this passage. We must always be a “servant” to those around us. That is what we were called to do.

  28. 12 Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?

Sarah was a help meet to Abraham she didn’t hesistate or question Abraham when he rushed in to tell her to prepare a meal. I’m sure she wondered what was going on and what the all rush was about. When she overheard what the angel of the Lord’s message was to Abraham and have a child at her old age she laughed inside herself, not out loud for anyone to hear. the Lord knows the inside of the person and the state of their heart. Instead of lauging at the word of God we should praise him and trust that He will do as he has said (Isa 55:11).

  29. Get 18:11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old and we’ll stricken in age and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women. Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying after I am waxed old shall I have pleasure my Lord being old also? And the Lord said unto Abraham. Wherefore did Sarah laugh saying , shall of a surety bear a child which am olkd? Is any thing too hard for the Lord? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life and Sarah shall have a son.

  30. Genesis 19:18 But Lot said to them. No my lords please! Your servant has found favor in your eyes, and you have shown great kindness to me in sparing my life. But I can’t flee to the mountains this disaster will overtake me and I’ll die. Look here is a town near enough to run to and it is small. Let me flee to it it is very small isn’t it? Then my life will ti spared. He said to him very well, I will grant this request too, I will not overthrow the town you speak of. But flee there quickly because I cannot do anything until you reach t.
