Genesis 42
1 Now when Jacob saw that there was corn in Egypt, Jacob said unto his sons, Why do ye look one upon another?
2 And he said, Behold, I have heard that there is corn in Egypt: get you down thither, and buy for us from thence; that we may live, and not die.
3 And Joseph’s ten brethren went down to buy corn in Egypt.
4 But Benjamin, Joseph’s brother, Jacob sent not with his brethren; for he said, Lest peradventure mischief befall him.
5 And the sons of Israel came to buy corn among those that came: for the famine was in the land of Canaan.
6 And Joseph was the governor over the land, and he it was that sold to all the people of the land: and Joseph’s brethren came, and bowed down themselves before him with their faces to the earth.
7 And Joseph saw his brethren, and he knew them, but made himself strange unto them, and spake roughly unto them; and he said unto them, Whence come ye? And they said, From the land of Canaan to buy food.
8 And Joseph knew his brethren, but they knew not him.
9 And Joseph remembered the dreams which he dreamed of them, and said unto them, Ye are spies; to see the nakedness of the land ye are come.
10 And they said unto him, Nay, my lord, but to buy food are thy servants come.
11 We are all one man’s sons; we are true men, thy servants are no spies.
12 And he said unto them, Nay, but to see the nakedness of the land ye are come.
13 And they said, Thy servants are twelve brethren, the sons of one man in the land of Canaan; and, behold, the youngest is this day with our father, and one is not.
14 And Joseph said unto them, That is it that I spake unto you, saying, Ye are spies:
15 Hereby ye shall be proved: By the life of Pharaoh ye shall not go forth hence, except your youngest brother come hither.
16 Send one of you, and let him fetch your brother, and ye shall be kept in prison, that your words may be proved, whether there be any truth in you: or else by the life of Pharaoh surely ye are spies.
17 And he put them all together into ward three days.
18 And Joseph said unto them the third day, This do, and live; for I fear God:
19 If ye be true men, let one of your brethren be bound in the house of your prison: go ye, carry corn for the famine of your houses:
20 But bring your youngest brother unto me; so shall your words be verified, and ye shall not die. And they did so.
21 And they said one to another, We are verily guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the anguish of his soul, when he besought us, and we would not hear; therefore is this distress come upon us.
22 And Reuben answered them, saying, Spake I not unto you, saying, Do not sin against the child; and ye would not hear? therefore, behold, also his blood is required.
23 And they knew not that Joseph understood them; for he spake unto them by an interpreter.
24 And he turned himself about from them, and wept; and returned to them again, and communed with them, and took from them Simeon, and bound him before their eyes.
25 Then Joseph commanded to fill their sacks with corn, and to restore every man’s money into his sack, and to give them provision for the way: and thus did he unto them.
26 And they laded their asses with the corn, and departed thence.
27 And as one of them opened his sack to give his ass provender in the inn, he espied his money; for, behold, it was in his sack’s mouth.
28 And he said unto his brethren, My money is restored; and, lo, it is even in my sack: and their heart failed them, and they were afraid, saying one to another, What is this that God hath done unto us?
29 And they came unto Jacob their father unto the land of Canaan, and told him all that befell unto them; saying,
30 The man, who is the lord of the land, spake roughly to us, and took us for spies of the country.
31 And we said unto him, We are true men; we are no spies:
32 We be twelve brethren, sons of our father; one is not, and the youngest is this day with our father in the land of Canaan.
33 And the man, the lord of the country, said unto us, Hereby shall I know that ye are true men; leave one of your brethren here with me, and take food for the famine of your households, and be gone:
34 And bring your youngest brother unto me: then shall I know that ye are no spies, but that ye are true men: so will I deliver you your brother, and ye shall traffick in the land.
35 And it came to pass as they emptied their sacks, that, behold, every man’s bundle of money was in his sack: and when both they and their father saw the bundles of money, they were afraid.
36 And Jacob their father said unto them, Me have ye bereaved of my children: Joseph is not, and Simeon is not, and ye will take Benjamin away: all these things are against me.
37 And Reuben spake unto his father, saying, Slay my two sons, if I bring him not to thee: deliver him into my hand, and I will bring him to thee again.
38 And he said, My son shall not go down with you; for his brother is dead, and he is left alone: if mischief befall him by the way in the which ye go, then shall ye bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to the grave.
The POFW Daily Bible Reading 
1. When Jacob heard that grain was available in Egypt, he said to his sons, “Why are you standing around looking at one another?
2. I have heard there is grain in Egypt. Go down there, and buy enough grain to keep us alive. Otherwise we’ll die.” NLT
When we have a problem in our lives that we can’t solve, we can’t just stand around looking at one another, we have to go to Jehovah Jireh, the Source, the One we know that has everything we need.
A strange sequence of actions follows in which Joseph seems to toy cruelly with his brothers. In fact Joseph’s actions test his brothers sincerity and drive them to search their consciences why God would place them in such a precarious relationship with Egypt’s ruler.
THE MISCONCEPTION OF “ALL”
36 And Jacob their father said unto them, Me have ye bereaved of my children: Joseph is not, and Simeon is not, and ye will take Benjamin away: all these things are against me.
A tricky and deceitful adversary makes a multitude of false accusations from the platform of intimidation. The plot of satan to discourage and frustrate the people of faith is found in THE MISCONCEPTION OF ALL. The picture painted in Jacob’s mind was that 2 of his sons were missing and now a third one is requested.
In simple math we can discern that 3/12 is 1/4 or 25%. Now nobody wants to lose 25% of what is theirs, especially family members. However the principal is the fact that Jacob saw 25% as ALL.
THE MISCONCEPTION OF ALL reveals itself frequently, even in our generation. Nobody spoke to me, Nobody likes me, Nobody ever calls me, etc.
We glean from this principal that it is MORE encouraging to FOCUS on what we have rather than what we have NOT. Protect your mind from falling into THE MISCONCEPTION OF “ALL” by COUNTING your BLESSINGS.

36 And Jacob their father said unto them, Me have ye bereaved of my children: Joseph is not, and Simeon is not, and ye will take Benjamin away: all these things are against me.
Jacob seems to have forgotten who the Lord is. Although he may have been acknowledging him daily he was not trusting in his character. God is our provider and will bring us through. He has a plan and we must trust that he knows what to do and when to do it. Jacob saw the fulfillment of prophecy as a curse against him. Trust in the Lord and have faith in what he says.

Sometimes affliction brings us to the point that we can remember the sin that we have never repented of. This is the place where God has to take many of us on a constant basis.
God gave Joseph the wisdom that would allow him to find favor with Pharaoh and all those around because of the famine and wisdom used in interpreting Pharaohs dream resulted in the people having food during the famine.
God is the giver of wisdom. Scripture tells us God gives wisdom freely to all who ask. Asking is through prayer and seeking out the answers in His word. We must take the time to find what the Word says about our situation and then proceed with the instructions we find. Too many of us are failing to search the Word for the instructions and are just floundering until we land on some answer, good right or wrong.
Then Joseph commanded to fill their sacks with corn, and to restore every man’s money into his sack, and to give them provision for the way: and thus did he unto them.

Joseph gives a great example of true forgiveness. Its not that he hated his brothers by speaking rough to them but that they may Hot know yet for he longed to see them all. He really did bless those that cursed him and showed the true character of love and forgiveness from Christ. What will we do if someone of your brothers, let’s say dose from the house of God was to harm you. Can we bless them as well and forgive and just know that God is in control of every single process in your life
Keep your Benjamin’s
4 But Benjamin, Joseph’s brother, Jacob sent not with his brethren; for he said, Lest peradventure mischief befall him.
The joke is to keep or save some money but actually Jacob was wise to keep his youngest some back when he wasn’t quite ready to be released. It takes decoupling and wisdom to know when to release your son. I’m thnakful for a Pastor that holds on to us until he is sure that we are ready and when God says to. Knowing that we are never arrived but always in the chase for more of God is a simple but very important measure in our growth. knowing this we are certain to fail sometimes even after we are released but God and our pastor want to see if we have matured enough to know where to find out answers and our help.
Guilty Conscience to a Confession
For about 22 years, Joseph’s brothers had put him in the back of their minds. (They had swept their sins and guilt under the rug.) Out of sight, out of mind. But when their father, Jacob, tells them to go to Egypt to by corn, their guilty conscience is awakened. Jacob asks them, “Why do ye look one upon another?” They know why. Because the Ishmealites they sold him to, took him into Egypt. (Gen. 37:27)
Now in Egypt themselves and in front of their brother joseph, they make a confession one to another saying, “We are guilty concerning our brother.” Gen. 42:21
It is never a good thing, if you have wronged your brother, to sweep it under the rug, and think out of sight, out of mind. For you will live with a guilty conscience, and someday your sin will come to light.
So, it would be best to do as James 5:16a says, “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed…”
Confess, Pray, and be Healed!
10 And they said unto him, Nay, my lord, but to buy food are thy servants come.
When you enemy becomes your servant.
Wow. As I was reading this. It reminded me that we must be patient in our trials. For sometimes it will be our enemies that will serve us in the end. We win in the end.
“And Reuben answered them, saying, Spake I not unto you, saying, Do not sin against the child; and ye would not hear? therefore, behold, also his blood is required.” Reuben was now also bound, because of his brothers. Separation from those that will not listen, may be the only thing that keeps one from also being bound. Dear God, order my steps, according to your will; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In GOD we trust”. “One Nation under GOD, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all”. What a mighty GOD we serve! Thank GOD for his word. GOD bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in JESUS name, Amen!

No matter what is agaist you dont let your faith fail you. Gods got a plan, stay stronv and believe.
14 And Joseph said unto them, That is it that I spake unto you, saying, Ye are spies:
If you do someone wrong, don’t expect to be trusted just because you say you are worthy to be trusted. We get offended went our trust gets put to the test. Yet when someone does us wrong we are quick to distrust.
We have to prove ourselves trust worthy.

Complaining is a bad habit to break .Pluse nobody enjoys spending time with a complainer because it leads to anger and depression with all that negative talk it affects people all around a complainer.
That’s why complaining displeases the LORD.

9 And Joseph remembered the dreams which he dreamed of them,
It’s hard to forget when God moves in our lives.
Sometimes people have to o work together to get things done. You may not like the thing that you have been asked to do, but when we do those things together everyone has benefits.
Sometimes we don’t know what is happening behind the scenes in our lives, they didn’t know that their brother Joseph was before them, making them do all these things. We can wonder why we are going through trials in our life, and it may be that God is just testing us to see how we endure through it.
