Genesis 43

1 And the famine was sore in the land.

2 And it came to pass, when they had eaten up the corn which they had brought out of Egypt, their father said unto them, Go again, buy us a little food.

3 And Judah spake unto him, saying, The man did solemnly protest unto us, saying, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you.

4 If thou wilt send our brother with us, we will go down and buy thee food:

5 But if thou wilt not send him, we will not go down: for the man said unto us, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you.

6 And Israel said, Wherefore dealt ye so ill with me, as to tell the man whether ye had yet a brother?

7 And they said, The man asked us straitly of our state, and of our kindred, saying, Is your father yet alive? have ye another brother? and we told him according to the tenor of these words: could we certainly know that he would say, Bring your brother down?

8 And Judah said unto Israel his father, Send the lad with me, and we will arise and go; that we may live, and not die, both we, and thou, and also our little ones.

9 I will be surety for him; of my hand shalt thou require him: if I bring him not unto thee, and set him before thee, then let me bear the blame for ever:

10 For except we had lingered, surely now we had returned this second time.

11 And their father Israel said unto them, If it must be so now, do this; take of the best fruits in the land in your vessels, and carry down the man a present, a little balm, and a little honey, spices, and myrrh, nuts, and almonds:

12 And take double money in your hand; and the money that was brought again in the mouth of your sacks, carry it again in your hand; peradventure it was an oversight:

13 Take also your brother, and arise, go again unto the man:

14 And God Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may send away your other brother, and Benjamin. If I be bereaved of my children, I am bereaved.

15 And the men took that present, and they took double money in their hand and Benjamin; and rose up, and went down to Egypt, and stood before Joseph.

16 And when Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to the ruler of his house, Bring these men home, and slay, and make ready; for these men shall dine with me at noon.

17 And the man did as Joseph bade; and the man brought the men into Joseph’s house.

18 And the men were afraid, because they were brought into Joseph’s house; and they said, Because of the money that was returned in our sacks at the first time are we brought in; that he may seek occasion against us, and fall upon us, and take us for bondmen, and our asses.

19 And they came near to the steward of Joseph’s house, and they communed with him at the door of the house,

20 And said, O sir, we came indeed down at the first time to buy food:

21 And it came to pass, when we came to the inn, that we opened our sacks, and, behold, every man’s money was in the mouth of his sack, our money in full weight: and we have brought it again in our hand.

22 And other money have we brought down in our hands to buy food: we cannot tell who put our money in our sacks.

23 And he said, Peace be to you, fear not: your God, and the God of your father, hath given you treasure in your sacks: I had your money. And he brought Simeon out unto them.

24 And the man brought the men into Joseph’s house, and gave them water, and they washed their feet; and he gave their asses provender.

25 And they made ready the present against Joseph came at noon: for they heard that they should eat bread there.

26 And when Joseph came home, they brought him the present which was in their hand into the house, and bowed themselves to him to the earth.

27 And he asked them of their welfare, and said, Is your father well, the old man of whom ye spake? Is he yet alive?

28 And they answered, Thy servant our father is in good health, he is yet alive. And they bowed down their heads, and made obeisance.

29 And he lifted up his eyes, and saw his brother Benjamin, his mother’s son, and said, Is this your younger brother, of whom ye spake unto me? And he said, God be gracious unto thee, my son.

30 And Joseph made haste; for his bowels did yearn upon his brother: and he sought where to weep; and he entered into his chamber, and wept there.

31 And he washed his face, and went out, and refrained himself, and said, Set on bread.

32 And they set on for him by himself, and for them by themselves, and for the Egyptians, which did eat with him, by themselves: because the Egyptians might not eat bread with the Hebrews; for that is an abomination unto the Egyptians.

33 And they sat before him, the firstborn according to his birthright, and the youngest according to his youth: and the men marvelled one at another.

34 And he took and sent messes unto them from before him: but Benjamin’s mess was five times so much as any of their’s. And they drank, and were merry with him.

  1. Verse 23 MSG “The steward said, “Everything’s in order. Don’t worry. Your God and the God of your father must have given you a bonus. I was paid in full.” And with that, he presented Simeon to them.” Same verse AMP “But the steward [encouraged them and] said, “Peace be to you, do not be afraid; your God and the God of your father has [miraculously] given you treasure in your sacks. I [already] had your money [which you paid to us].” Then he brought Simeon out to them.” Wow….my God is sooo awesome….what was that again “PAID IN FULL”…..MIRACULOUSLY!!!! We don’t have to able able to calculate it or understand how. My God’s calculator is a lot bigger than ours! All we have to do, like Pastor Brown, shared last night; just keep giving and being obedient (following his commandments).

  2. Gen.43:34 and he took and sent messes unto them from before him : but Benjamin’s mess was was five times so much as any of theirs. And they drank, and were merry with him.

This verse suggest that the brothers were not jealous or resentful toward Benjamin because of the preferential treatment ; thus, they seemingly had a change of heart. But Joseph was going to test them (ch.44.)

  3. 20. They said, “My lord, we did indeed come down the first time to buy food.

    21. But when we came to the place where we spent the night, we opened our sacks and each of us found his money-the full amount-in the mouth of his sack. So we have returned it.

    22. We have brought additional money with us to buy food. We do not know who put the money in our sacks!”

    23. “Everything is fine,” the man in charge of Joseph’s household told them. “Don’t be afraid. Your God and the God of your father has given you treasure in your sacks. I had your money.” Then he brought Simeon out to them.

We are all praying for blessings for our church and our families; when they come, let’s not be surprised or doubting where they came from, but let’s be expecting to get them and give God all the glory!

  4. Every one must give an accounting for.his or her sins. Sin has consequences. Except God to change the hearts of those who sin against you as He has been changing you.

  5. MORE PERSUASION THROUGH (JUDAH) PRAISE

The simple need was to get Jacob/Israel their father to allow them to take Benjamin for Joseph to see. Jacob/Israel was fearful of the occasion as the result of the past, where now missing son Joseph has not been home since.

Our natural human instinct is to be fearful, however our Godly instinct is to believe and have FAITH. Jacob’s eldest son attempted to persuade him to release Benjamin to no avail.

Genesis 42:37 And Reuben spake unto his father, saying, Slay my two sons, if I bring him not to thee: deliver him into my hand, and I will bring him to thee again.
38 And he said, My son shall not go down with you; for his brother is dead, and he is left alone: if mischief befall him by the way in the which ye go, then shall ye bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to the grave.

    But JUDAH had MORE PERSUASION!

Praise the LORD JESUS for strong persuasion in the Kingdom of GOD.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  6. 30 And Joseph made haste; for his bowels did yearn upon his brother: and he sought where to weep; and he entered into his chamber, and wept there.

31 And he washed his face, and went out, and refrained himself, and said, Set on bread.

There are times to weep, yet we can’t stay in that state of mind. Joseph wept and then washed his face and went out.

Weep if you must, but don’t forget to wash your face and move on.

  7. Joseph never stumbled at the situations he faced leading up to his promise. He trusted God; I’d like to think Joseph recognized the source of his faith like Bro. Brown spoke of last night. Joseph never worried because he knew he was obedient, so he then chose to just trust God knowing that one day God would uphold His end of the promise.

  8. 18 And the men were afraid, because they were brought into Joseph’s house; and they said, Because of the money that was returned in our sacks at the first time are we brought in; that he may seek occasion against us, and fall upon us, and take us for bondmen, and our asses.

Never be afraid because Jesus is always with us. the only reason Jesus will leave us is if we completely turn away from Him. Jesus will not force us to do anything, He had given us our own will but why wouldn’t anybody want to serve Him. Life is not prefect when you serve Jesus but it sure is worth living for Him because I know that my family and me are under His protection, I know I am saved and healed. I know who to cry out to when I’m in need, I have the victory and I’m victorious!!!! The devil had nothing against me because I will serve my Lord for the rest of my life!!!!! Hallelujah!!!!!

  9. iLove to eat More Word

Genesis 43:26 NLT When Joseph came home, they gave him the gifts they had brought him, then bowed low to the ground before him.

When a dream is from the Lord it will come to pass. Just as Pastor Brown taught last night, when we know a promise is from God we should not allow our faith to waiver. No matter what situations we have to go through, that promise will come to pass. Joseph was over 40 years old at this point in life and had gone through tremendous trials in life, but he saw the dream come to pass. He was in captivity when his mother passed away, there was a lot against him, but he had a heart for the Lord and he saw his dream come to pass.

  10. Dads… Ugh…

Israel: “Go get some more food”
Judah: “He told us don’t come back without Ben. You gotta let us take Benny. We aint goin unless he is goin with us.”
Israel: “Why do you not love me? Why do you want to take another of my sons away? Why did you tell him you even had a brother?”
Judah: “He asked about you and if we had any other brothers; how were we supposed to know what he wanted?”
Israel: “Fine! Take Ben. Also take the best things we have as a present. Also, take extra money in case they figured out their mistake. If Ben does not come back, its over; I will have lost everything!”

Why do fathers tend to jump to the worst conclusions? There were still many sons left but over the youngest being lost, that was the end. We put ourselves through so much stress, anxiety, and mental anguish because we dwell on negative possibilities that aren’t actually happening! It’s a case of an overactive imagination being used for ill, not good. We would save ourselves a lot of suffering if we could stop our minds from dwelling on the most horrible “what ifs” we can come up with.

    Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

    Philippians 4:6-7
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

  11. 26 And when Joseph came home, they brought him the present which was in their hand into the house, and bowed themselves to him to the earth.
27 And he asked them of their welfare, and said, Is your father well, the old man of whom ye spake? Is he yet alive?

  12. May God Almighty give you mercy and favor before the man, that he may release to you your other brother and Benjamin. If I am bereaved [of my sons], I am bereaved.
    Genesis 43:14 AMP

  13. 11 And their father Israel said unto them, If it must be so now, do this; take of the best fruits in the land in your vessels, and carry down the man a present, a little balm, and a little honey, spices, and myrrh, nuts, and almonds:

12 And take double money in your hand; and the money that was brought again in the mouth of your sacks, carry it again in your hand; peradventure it was an oversight:

You see here that Israel didn’t just send the youngest brother but the best fruit, balm, honey, spices, myrrh, busts and almonds. Plus double the money and the money found in their sacks.

Though we might find our selves in a low place it doesn’t mean we are excused from being obedient. Obedience is what will take you out.

  14. Gen. 43:6 & 8
6, “And Israel said, Wherefore dealt ye so ill with me, as to tell the man whether ye had yet a brother?”
8, “And Judah said unto Israel his father; Send the lad with me, and we will arise and go; that we may live, and not die, both we, and thou, and also our little ones.”

Fear will hold you back, but Praise will cause you to Arise and Go..

  15. 11So their father, Jacob, finally said to them, “If it can’t be avoided, then at least do this. Pack your bags with the best products of this land. Take them down to the man as gifts—balm, honey, gum, aromatic resin, pistachio nuts, and almonds.

Even Jacob had to accept God’s will. Our carnal minds cannot see what’s happening down the road, how God is preparing our blessings. We only anticipated of what is gonna happen. We just have to submit ourselves to God and accept things we can’t control.

  16. 9 I will be surety for him; of my hand shalt thou require him: if I bring him not unto thee, and set him before thee, then let me bear the blame for ever:

Judah had accepted all responsibilities for Benjamin’s safety , he didn’t know what that meant for him but he was yet determined to do his duty . In the end , Judah’s words causes Joseph to break down with emotion and reveal him self to his Bro’s . Excepting responsibility is difficult and it might be hard but it builds character and confidence , so when ever you are given an assignment complete it and commit your self to seeing it through .

  17. What I learned from Joseph’s brothers return with Benjamin. Pharaoh’s dream was predicted seven years of famine. During the famine far away in the Vale of Hebron the famine was sore, and the sons of Jacob did not know what to do. Then suddenly things were at their worst news it came to Jacob that there was corn in Egypt. So Jacob decide to send his ten sons away with their empty sacks and their asses to buy corn for their families. They wished to take their young brother Benjamin with them, but their father would not allow them. He had lost Joseph, he said, and he would not risk Benjamin with them. In Jesus Name !!!

  18. “And they set on for him by himself, and for them by themselves, and for the Egyptians, which did eat with him, by themselves: because the Egyptians might not eat bread with the Hebrews; for that is an abomination unto the Egyptians.” The word of God (Jesus) records this for a reason. One would be wise to heed, and consider the consequences of one’s actions; or lack thereof. Dear God, thank you for revelation; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In GOD we trust”. “One Nation under GOD, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all”. What a mighty GOD we serve! Thank GOD for his word. GOD bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in JESUS name, Amen!

  19. Family will always be Family

No matter what Family will always be Family. The love you feel for them will never 27 And he asked them of their welfare, and said, Is your father well, the old man of whom ye spake? Is he yet alive?

28 And they answered, Thy servant our father is in good health, he is yet alive. And they bowed down their heads, and made obeisance.

29 And he lifted up his eyes, and saw his brother Benjamin, his mother’s son, and said, Is this your younger brother, of whom ye spake unto me? And he said, God be gracious unto thee, my son.

30 And Joseph made haste; for his bowels did yearn upon his brother: and he sought where to weep; and he entered into his chamber, and wept there.

Family will always be family and the love you have for one another no matter what happens will never cease. Yes, some actions of some will hurt but we may never forget that the Love of God calls us to forgiveness, to love one another as we love ourselves. Joseph is the perfect example of forgiveness. With God on our side everything that was meant for bad will turn to good. Thank you Lord for I will never forget to love my family, blood as well as church. The enemy will love more than anything that we separate and strife our unity, for he knows that if we do not unity the power of God will not be strong in us. Watch out devil we will forever remain together for ever.

  20. v1 And the famine was sore in the land.
v3 And Judah spake unto him, saying, The man did solemnly protest unto us saying, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you.

Our praise and worship should be unconditional. Praise HIM in the good and bad times.
Our GOD IS AWESOME, and worthy of our praise.
    MORE PRAISE !!!

  21. Judah stepped up to watch over his brother. Your praise is able to cover you. When you feel a little uneasy, just begin to praise the Lord and he will see you through.

  22. Genesis 43:32 (KJV Strong’s)

32 And they set on for him by himself, and for them by themselves, and for the Egyptians, which did eat with him, by themselves: because the Egyptians might not eat bread with the Hebrews; for that is an abomination unto the Egyptians.

    Exodus 8:26 (KJV Strong’s)

26 And Moses said, It is not meet so to do; for we shall sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians to the Lord our God: lo, shall we sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, and will they not stone us?

Sheep were considered detestable animals, and those who raised them were even more vile. The Egyptians saw such lifestyle as an abomination. These were the lowest of professions both societal and religiously. The cared not for the lamb or those associated with the lamb.

The world of today is not much different. The world detests the lamb, the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross and seeks to stomp out all mention of Jesus name baptism and the blood.

The world sees the people of the lamb as intolerant narrow minded bigots.

Jesus said in John 15:18-19 (KJV Strong’s)

18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.

19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

  23. It is easy to overlook the tediousness in this text. The trip to and from Egypt was not short. They also tracked with donkeys and cargo. They were not moving very fast. It is easy to overlook how difficult travel was in ancient times. Many times we will be tested. It may take long and be an inconvenience, much like this was to the Hebrews.

  24. “The steward said, “Everything’s in order. Don’t worry. Your God and the God of your father must have given you a bonus. I was paid in full.” And with that, he presented Simeon to them.”
    ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭43:23‬ ‭MSG‬‬

I receive it in Jesus name!! Blessings will come in full.

  25. 23 And he said, Peace be to you, fear not: your God, and the God of your father, hath given you treasure in your sacks: I had your money. And he brought Simeon out unto them.
It seems as though he had desire to hurt Benjamin, but he didn’t. He wanted to see his family, his kindred. I’m sure it was more a blessing to Joseph to see everyone than it was for them to receive all the blessings from his hand.

  26. 27 And he asked them of their welfare, and said, Is your father well, the old man of whom ye spake? Is he yet alive?

28 And they answered, Thy servant our father is in good health, he is yet alive. And they bowed down their heads, and made obeisance.
29 And he lifted up his eyes, and saw his brother Benjamin, his mother’s son, and said, Is this your younger brother, of whom ye spake unto me? And he said, God be gracious unto thee, my son.
30 And Joseph made haste; for his bowels did yearn upon his brother: and he sought where to weep; and he entered into his chamber, and wept there.
these verses show Joseph’s human side and his human sensitivities he was concerned about his personal family but yet not so concerned that he stopped acting like the king or operating in his disguise. At the same time family meant so much to him that he could not help but seek to know the condition of his family members it goes to show the importance of family what it means to Joseph And what it means to all people.

  27. So their father, Jacob, finally said to them, “If it can’t be avoided, then at least do this. Pack your bags with the best products of this land. Take them down to the man as gifts—balm, honey, gum, aromatic resin, pistachio nuts, and almonds. Also take double the money that was put back in your sacks, as it was probably someone’s mistake. May God Almighty give you mercy as you go before the man, so that he will release Simeon and let Benjamin return. But if I must lose my children, so be it.”
    Genesis 43:11-12, 14 NLT
    http://bible.com/116/gen.43.11-14.NLT

So they finally got hungry enough and Judah was able to persuade his father to let them take their brother… If we can do great measures for hunger how much more should not we do for the Doré of God in our lives. We should hunger for it and do whatever it takes that our souls maybe filled with life.

  28. When we are likejoseph and we do what God has for us to do in excellence, even through the pains and trials of life, we get to see the things that we never understood how they would happen come to pass. He never understood how his dreams would come to pass, but through his constant work and God’s favor his dreams came to pass.

  29. 22 And other money have we brought down in our hands to buy food: we cannot tell who put our money in our sacks.

23 And he said, Peace be to you, fear not: your God, and the God of your father, hath given you treasure in your sacks: I had your money. And he brought Simeon out unto them.
