Genesis 47

1 Then Joseph came and told Pharaoh, and said, My father and my brethren, and their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have, are come out of the land of Canaan; and, behold, they are in the land of Goshen.

2 And he took some of his brethren, even five men, and presented them unto Pharaoh.

3 And Pharaoh said unto his brethren, What is your occupation? And they said unto Pharaoh, Thy servants are shepherds, both we, and also our fathers.

4 They said morever unto Pharaoh, For to sojourn in the land are we come; for thy servants have no pasture for their flocks; for the famine is sore in the land of Canaan: now therefore, we pray thee, let thy servants dwell in the land of Goshen.

5 And Pharaoh spake unto Joseph, saying, Thy father and thy brethren are come unto thee:

6 The land of Egypt is before thee; in the best of the land make thy father and brethren to dwell; in the land of Goshen let them dwell: and if thou knowest any men of activity among them, then make them rulers over my cattle.

7 And Joseph brought in Jacob his father, and set him before Pharaoh: and Jacob blessed Pharaoh.

8 And Pharaoh said unto Jacob, How old art thou?

9 And Jacob said unto Pharaoh, The days of the years of my pilgrimage are an hundred and thirty years: few and evil have the days of the years of my life been, and have not attained unto the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage.

10 And Jacob blessed Pharaoh, and went out from before Pharaoh.

11 And Joseph placed his father and his brethren, and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded.

12 And Joseph nourished his father, and his brethren, and all his father’s household, with bread, according to their families.

13 And there was no bread in all the land; for the famine was very sore, so that the land of Egypt and all the land of Canaan fainted by reason of the famine.

14 And Joseph gathered up all the money that was found in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, for the corn which they bought: and Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh’s house.

15 And when money failed in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, all the Egyptians came unto Joseph, and said, Give us bread: for why should we die in thy presence? for the money faileth.

16 And Joseph said, Give your cattle; and I will give you for your cattle, if money fail.

17 And they brought their cattle unto Joseph: and Joseph gave them bread in exchange for horses, and for the flocks, and for the cattle of the herds, and for the asses: and he fed them with bread for all their cattle for that year.

18 When that year was ended, they came unto him the second year, and said unto him, We will not hide it from my lord, how that our money is spent; my lord also hath our herds of cattle; there is not ought left in the sight of my lord, but our bodies, and our lands:

19 Wherefore shall we die before thine eyes, both we and our land? buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants unto Pharaoh: and give us seed, that we may live, and not die, that the land be not desolate.

20 And Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh; for the Egyptians sold every man his field, because the famine prevailed over them: so the land became Pharaoh’s.

21 And as for the people, he removed them to cities from one end of the borders of Egypt even to the other end thereof.

22 Only the land of the priests bought he not; for the priests had a portion assigned them of Pharaoh, and did eat their portion which Pharaoh gave them: wherefore they sold not their lands.

23 Then Joseph said unto the people, Behold, I have bought you this day and your land for Pharaoh: lo, here is seed for you, and ye shall sow the land.

24 And it shall come to pass in the increase, that ye shall give the fifth part unto Pharaoh, and four parts shall be your own, for seed of the field, and for your food, and for them of your households, and for food for your little ones.

25 And they said, Thou hast saved our lives: let us find grace in the sight of my lord, and we will be Pharaoh’s servants.

26 And Joseph made it a law over the land of Egypt unto this day, that Pharaoh should have the fifth part, except the land of the priests only, which became not Pharaoh’s.

27 And Israel dwelt in the land of Egypt, in the country of Goshen; and they had possessions therein, and grew, and multiplied exceedingly.

28 And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years: so the whole age of Jacob was an hundred forty and seven years.

29 And the time drew nigh that Israel must die: and he called his son Joseph, and said unto him, If now I have found grace in thy sight, put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh, and deal kindly and truly with me; bury me not, I pray thee, in Egypt:

30 But I will lie with my fathers, and thou shalt carry me out of Egypt, and bury me in their buryingplace. And he said, I will do as thou hast said.

31 And he said, Swear unto me. And he sware unto him. And Israel bowed himself upon the bed’s head.

  1. 1 Then Joseph came and told Pharaoh, and said, My father and my brethren, and their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have, are come out of the land of Canaan; and, behold, they are in the land of Goshen.

When we come out of a trial victoriously God will lead us to a place of refuge. Goshen was a land seperated from the Egyptians, because we are to live holy and seperated lives from this world. God will protect and prosper us in the place of Goshen with abundant blessing.

  2. Genesis 47:8
And pharaoh said unto Jacob how old art thou?
It doesn’t matter how old you are you are young in gods eyes Amen. More Jesus

  3. 3 And Pharaoh said unto his brethren, What is your occupation? And they said unto Pharaoh, Thy servants are shepherds, both we, and also our fathers.

I don’t know if anyone else sees this, but the servant answered, my and all of us including my Fathers, are Pastors (preachers, Angels of God).

Then Pharoah took them to the desert and showed them how bad it was there. Now you are going to dwell in this land, the blessed land.

POFW, we are about to get to Goshen.

  4. In reading this chapter, we see how Joseph’s brothers went from pleading for food to owning some of the best land. Joseph could have held onto a grudge or try and get his brothers back for what they had done to him so many years before; but, instead he placed them in the right place and the right time for Pharaoh to bless them with the land of Goshen. If you are in a bleak situation or place; hold on, for your Goshen (blessing) is coming.

At the end of the chapter, we see the love, loyalty and faithfulness of a father and son. What an awesome relationship and love they had for one another. We should strive to have this type of relationship with our Creator, who loves us so much that he died for us. Thank you Jesus for loving me so.

  5. Jacob meets Pharaoh and his family is granted land and employment. Joseph administers Egypt’ and with the stored.grain purchases all privately held.land in the country. Jacob dies in Egypt and asked to be buried with his father and grandfather.

  6. And Israel dwelt in the land of Egypt, in the country of Goshen; and they had possessions therein, and grew, and multiplied exceedingly.

As I look back in my life. I see how much I am blessed. Just the little things. Friends. Family. A bed. Food. A car. Even the blankets that cover with at night when I go to bed. Wow. I am blessed. Thank you Jesus for your many blessings.

  7. I have 2 thoughts this morning.

    1) Gen. 47:12-13 says, “And Joseph nourished his father, and his brethren, and all his father’s household, with bread, according to their families. And there was no bread in all the land; for the famine was very sore, so that the land of Egypt and all of the land of Canaan fainted by reason of the famine.”
The people in Egypt and all Canaan fainted (grew weak and feeble) because of a famine and a lack of bread, but because “God was with Joseph,” Joseph was able to put his family in the best of the land and feed them with bread.
Amos 8:11-12 says, “Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord: And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it ”
JESUS is the word that became flesh and dwelt among us. He is the Bread of Life. This is why we must read, study, memorize, and hide God’s Word in our hearts everyday. So that when there is a famine in the land of hearing God’s Word, we will not faint (be weak and feeble), but we will already have it and know it in our hearts, and it will feed us.

    Also Gen. 47:23 & 25
    23) Then Joseph said unto the people, Behold, I have bought you this day and your land for Pharaoh: lo, here is seed for you, and ye shall sow the land.
    25) And they said, Thou hast saved our lives: let us fund grace in the sight of my lord, and we will be Pharaoh’s servants.
These scriptures remind me that Jesus saved us. He bought us with a price, and we are now His servants. He has given us the seed ” the Word” to sow into the land.
1 Cor. 7:22-23 says, “For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord’s freeman: likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ’s servant. Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men.”

  8. iLove to eat More Word

Genesis 47:18-19 NLT But that year ended, and the next year they came again and said, “We cannot hide the truth from you, my lord. Our money is gone, and all our livestock and cattle are yours. We have nothing left to give but our bodies and our land. (19) Why should we die before your very eyes? Buy us and our land in exchange for food; we offer our land and ourselves as slaves for Pharaoh. Just give us grain so we may live and not die, and so the land does not become empty and desolate.”

As I read this I couldn’t help but think of how it will be in the last days when the Antichrist will set up the mark of the beast and people will not be able to buy or sell without the mark. People will not be able to feed their children and they will in the end (just like Esau) sell their souls for a bowl of soup. This is the reason it is imperative for us to have a relationship with Jesus and to learn to fast on a weekly basis. It trains and prepares us for the evil days that the Word of God teaches us are coming in the very near future.

  9. 6. The land of Egypt is before thee; in the best of the land make thy father and brethren to dwell; in the land of Goshen let them dwell: and if thou knowest any men of activity among them, then make them rulers over my cattle.

    11. And Joseph placed his father and his brethren, and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded.

We are children of the Most High God and He wants His children to have the best of the land!

  10. 11 So Joseph assigned the best land of Egypt—the region of Rameses—to his father and his brothers, and he settled them there, just as Pharaoh had commanded.
12 And Joseph provided food for his father and his brothers in amounts appropriate to the number of their dependents, including the smallest children. (NLT)

Joseph never held a grudge against his brothers for what they did to him. Rather he obeyed the voice over him and blessed them! What a thought…

  11. 7 Then Joseph brought in his father, Jacob, and presented him to Pharaoh. And Jacob blessed Pharaoh.

If the Pharaoh can be blessed by God, anyone can be blessed. Pharaohs were considered to be gods themselves, like part of Ra (the sun god). But even Pharaoh recognized the Israelites had a mighty God whom they served. He allowed Jacob to bestow a blessing upon him!

So we should always give blessings to anyone, whether they deserve it or not.

  12. REMAIN IN GOSHEN – THE KEY TO GROWTH

27 And Israel dwelt in the land of Egypt, in the country of Goshen; and they had possessions therein, and grew, and multiplied exceedingly.

As individual believers and as corporate believers (church) we have the beautiful opportunity to GROW in the Kingdom of GOD. As GOD places us in the land of GOSHEN,

GOSHEN means “Drawing NEAR”. The longer we remain somewhere the MORE fond we GROW of and to it. As we remain in a “Drawing NEAR” mentality, we find ourselves GROWING and MULTIPLYING exceedingly.

Few people are able to grow when they frequently uproot themselves and pull themselves up and out of ministry, position and church. JESUS desires to BLESS what we have. We are challenged and called to remain faithful and committed to the place where GOD has led us.

Lets GROW The POFW! Remain committed to the PLACE where GOD has led us:

    Worship
    The WORD of GOD
    Prayer
    Outreach
    Praise

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  13. We find in this chapter how Israelites sold themselves to Pharaoh to be servants in Egpyt. It was through a process it started off with trading for corn, then they traded their livestock, and then in the end they traded themselves.

This is the process many people find themselves in today. They give up a piece of their God life for a small pleasure, or perhaps a better job or a nicer house so they have to work longer hours, more days. Before you know it they are missing church here, missing church there and then you see this principle being let down, and then that principle leaving and then they wake up one day and they are in bondage to the world and it’s ways.

Lord help us to be aware that this world is not our home, and it’s nice to be comfortable, but we can’t trade comfort for things of the Kingdom of God. We were put here for a Kingdom purpose and anything and distracts us from that purpose, is taking us deeper into the bondages of this world.

  14. And Joseph brought in Jacob his father, and set him before Pharaoh: and Jacob blessed Pharaoh.

Imaginé what kind of effect this had for the land of Egypt?

  15. 20 And Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh; for the Egyptians sold every man his field, because the famine prevailed over

Although they could only see the current situation and trials. God was design a Master Plan!

  16. 11 And Joseph placed his father and his brethren, and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded.

12 And Joseph nourished his father, and his brethren, and all his father’s household, with bread, according to their families.

Because Joseph was thrown in the pit, he was able to be in a position to save his family.

  17. 11 And Joseph placed his father and his brethren, and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded.
You would be wise if you if you keep your attitude right like joseph did. He knew God had a plan he was patient and obeyed God he didnt have ill feelings towards his brothers. Joseph knew that it was bigger than him. Joseph was on a mission, a mission to fulfill Gods plan, he couldn’t let his feelings be a Henderence.

  18. Genesis 47:27 (KJV Strong’s)

27 And Israel dwelt in the land of Egypt, in the country of Goshen; and they had possessions therein, and grew, and multiplied exceedingly.

Goshen was blessing but it wasn’t the promise. It was resources but it wasn’t the covenant. The blessings of Goshen allowed them to multiply exceedingly but it wasn’t their final destination. I believe in loosing the spirit of Goshen. This story highlights to me that there are levels of blessing that God has for his people that go beyond and above Goshen.

They lived in Goshen but God had more for them. The key is the journey. Stick with Jesus and he will bless with the blessings of Goshen and then the blessings of Canaan land!

  19. When you obey God he will set you up to be blessed. We must follow every word of God’s instructions and he will do the rest. Don’t stray away from God has told you because in the end you will receive your reward.

  20. 5 And Pharaoh spake unto Joseph, saying, Thy father and thy brethren are come unto thee:

6 The land of Egypt is before thee; in the best of the land make thy father and brethren to dwell; in the land of Goshen let them dwell: and if thou knowest any men of activity among them, then make them rulers over my cattle.

There are blessings that are coming not because we labored for them but because of others labor we will reap. Do not miss the blessings.

  21. “And Joseph made it a law over the land of Egypt unto this day, that Pharaoh should have the fifth part, except the land of the priests only, which became not Pharaoh’s.” The word of God (Jesus) is full of laws, landmarks, etc. that exist still today. One would be wise to first understand why something came about or was established, before simply dismissing it. Dear God, help me in understanding; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In GOD we trust”. “One Nation under GOD, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all”. What a mighty GOD we serve! Thank GOD for his word. GOD bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in JESUS nam

  22. 5 And Pharaoh spake unto Joseph, saying, Thy father and thy brethren are come unto thee:

6 The land of Egypt is before thee; in the best of the land make thy father and brethren to dwell; in the land of Goshen let them dwell: and if thou knowest any men of activity among them, then make them rulers over my cattle.
God’s blessings flows over to those around the blessed!!

  23. Wow how things change. Things go from the Egyptians who don’t want for anything to them being servants just so they can eat. The Egyptians willingly gave up everything so they could like. They gave their money, then their cattle, then their land and themselves.

I pray for America because things can change quickly.

  24. 7 And Joseph brought in Jacob his father, and set him before Pharaoh: and Jacob blessed Pharaoh.

    Bless those that bless you.

  25. Pharaoah’s fifth part 23. Then Jo’-seph said unto the people, Behold, I have bought you this day and your land for Pha’-raoh: lo, here is seed for you, and ye shall sow the land. 24. And it shall come to pass in the increase, that ye shall give the fifth part unto Pha’-raoah, and four parts shall be your own, for seed of the field, and for your food, and for them of your households, and for food for your little ones. 25. And they said, Thou hast saved our lives: let us find grace in the sight of my lord, and we will be Pha’-raoh’s servant’s. 26. And Jo’-seph made it a law over the land of E’-gypt unto this day, that Pha’-raoh should have the fifth part; except the land of the priests only, which became not Pha’-raoh’s.

  26. v12 And Joseph nourished his father, and brethren, and all his father’s household, with bread, according to their families.

Every thing belongs to GOD . In this chapter we see GOD’S providence as HIS guiding towards HIS purpose HE IS aware of everything that takes place and carefully guides is to fit HIS purpose.
