Exodus 4

1 And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice: for they will say, The Lord hath not appeared unto thee.

2 And the Lord said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod.

3 And he said, Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it.

4 And the Lord said unto Moses, Put forth thine hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand:

5 That they may believe that the Lord God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.

6 And the Lord said furthermore unto him, Put now thine hand into thy bosom. And he put his hand into his bosom: and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous as snow.

7 And he said, Put thine hand into thy bosom again. And he put his hand into his bosom again; and plucked it out of his bosom, and, behold, it was turned again as his other flesh.

8 And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe thee, neither hearken to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter sign.

9 And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe also these two signs, neither hearken unto thy voice, that thou shalt take of the water of the river, and pour it upon the dry land: and the water which thou takest out of the river shall become blood upon the dry land.

10 And Moses said unto the Lord, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.

11 And the Lord said unto him, Who hath made man’s mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the Lord?

12 Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.

13 And he said, O my Lord, send, I pray thee, by the hand of him whom thou wilt send.

14 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart.

15 And thou shalt speak unto him, and put words in his mouth: and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do.

16 And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people: and he shall be, even he shall be to thee instead of a mouth, and thou shalt be to him instead of God.

17 And thou shalt take this rod in thine hand, wherewith thou shalt do signs.

18 And Moses went and returned to Jethro his father in law, and said unto him, Let me go, I pray thee, and return unto my brethren which are in Egypt, and see whether they be yet alive. And Jethro said to Moses, Go in peace.

19 And the Lord said unto Moses in Midian, Go, return into Egypt: for all the men are dead which sought thy life.

20 And Moses took his wife and his sons, and set them upon an ass, and he returned to the land of Egypt: and Moses took the rod of God in his hand.

21 And the Lord said unto Moses, When thou goest to return into Egypt, see that thou do all those wonders before Pharaoh, which I have put in thine hand: but I will harden his heart, that he shall not let the people go.

22 And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the Lord, Israel is my son, even my firstborn:

23 And I say unto thee, Let my son go, that he may serve me: and if thou refuse to let him go, behold, I will slay thy son, even thy firstborn.

24 And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the Lord met him, and sought to kill him.

25 Then Zipporah took a sharp stone, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet, and said, Surely a bloody husband art thou to me.

26 So he let him go: then she said, A bloody husband thou art, because of the circumcision.

27 And the Lord said to Aaron, Go into the wilderness to meet Moses. And he went, and met him in the mount of God, and kissed him.

28 And Moses told Aaron all the words of the Lord who had sent him, and all the signs which he had commanded him.

29 And Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel:

30 And Aaron spake all the words which the Lord had spoken unto Moses, and did the signs in the sight of the people.

31 And the people believed: and when they heard that the Lord had visited the children of Israel, and that he had looked upon their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.

  1. In reading this chapter, we see Moses giving every excuse he can think of to get out of doing what he was asked to do. We too, as humans, can come up with the craziest excuses as to why not. We must be able to hear His voice and be obedient, for God will be right there guiding your every word, step and action.

  2. 2. And the Lord said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod.

    3. And he said, Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it.

    4. And the Lord said unto Moses, Put forth thine hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand:

Sometimes God must get us out of our comfort zone in order to get us to do what He is asking of us. Moses was obviously not comfortable around snakes or he wouldn’t have fled from it, but at God’s command he picked it up by the tail. He didn’t trust the snake, he trusted God. When you’re about to do something out of the ordinary remember this: (1) Make sure it’s God’s voice you’re hearing (or you may get bit), and (2) Make sure to give God the glory because you couldn’t have done it on your own.

  3. Exodus 4:14 The budding of his rod was a testimony against those who rebelled against his authority, and the rod was kept in the ark of the covenant.

  4. God in us

Muslims take on the name of Muhammad when they covert. They change their name from whatever nationality they are and the name their mother and father have given them to an Arabic name with all their last names being Muhammad. When we take on the name of Jesus in baptism we become Jessie Johnson Jesus. The difference is that Muhammad is dead. Moses was God into Aaron in this passage. We have the responsibility today to be Jesus to the world. God has placed his name in U.S. So that

God has placed his name on us expecting that we would do his work. Let us be Jesus to those around us. Amen.

  5. God is not looking to use the person that has it all figured out. He’s looking for that willing vessel. You may not be the best speaker, make the most friends or even give the most financially, but God will what man see as a problem and use it for his glory.

  6. 11 And the Lord said unto him, Who hath made man’s mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the Lord?

No, HE IS NOT A RESPECTOR OF PERSONS.
WE ALL SHALL BOW AND EVERY TONGUE WILL CONFESS THAT JESUS IS LORD!!! HALELUJAH!!!

  7. Exodus 4:2, 12-14a
    2) And the Lord said unto him, What is in thine hand? And he said, a rod.
    12) Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.
    13) And he said, O my Lord, send, I pray thee, by the hand of him whom thou wilt send.
    14) And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses…

God can use anything we have for his glory, whether it be in our hand or our mouth. But what he really needs is a heart that is willing to be used.
Isaiah 6:8 says, “Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.”

So the question is, when you hear the voice of God calling you, are you going to use an excuse not to go, or be the one who says, Here am I, send me?

  8. This chapter begins with God showing us that we MUST proof the world that He is in us. Verse 1 presents the situation and God being the greatest and never leaving His son or daughter without an answer gives them the proof they need.

In the same way, we MUST show this world that God is always there for them. That He lives in us and because He lives in us, by the Holy Ghost He still in us. The only thing we must do is show the fruits of the spirit in our everyday life. Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Acts 1:But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
    Mark 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

So be strong and courageous, Stand with courage, practice the fruit of the spirit, Speak the Gospel, and let the signs, sites, and wonder follow you where ever you go and my God be your guide through your path of maturity in spirit and in truth. In Jesus Name AMEN.

  9. “The Lord said to him, “Who makes a man able to talk? Who makes him unable to hear or speak? Who makes him able to see? Who makes him blind? It is I, the Lord. Now go. I will help you speak. I will teach you what to say.” But Moses said, “Lord, please send someone else to do it.””
    ‭‭Exodus‬ ‭4:11-13‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

I’m so glad that the Lord doesn’t call those who are qualified but qualifies those are called. God also using the resources that we already have in our hands. We are the man or woman for this end time hour. Let’s GROW!

  10. 10-12
Our can’t are as foolish as Moses . God who created us can over come every human weakness . Moses had God’s promise I will help you speak and teach what to say. What ever God ask us to do He commits Himself to help us succeed.
With God’s help we can do anything.

  11. Even in our weakest moments the Lord can still use us.

Moses had an excuse for everything the Lord asked of him. In the end though, Moses agreed. God wants to take us down to the very depths of ourselves to teach us that if there is any power, it is the power that is in God, and not in us. God doesn’t need to make us into performers or superstars in order to use us. Instead, He’s looking for men and women who have hearts that say, “Lord, I’m a nobody. I’m nothing without You. I am willing to be used.”

1 Corinthians 1:27, “But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen.”

  12. 11 Then the Lord asked Moses, “Who makes a person’s mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak, hear or do not hear, see or do not see? Is it not I, the Lord?
12 Now go! I will be with you as you speak, and I will instruct you in what to say.” (NLT)

The Lord will always be with us, we just need to be obedient and in whatever He asks of us, it will be done as He orders for His glory!

He will use natural things for supernatural works!

  14. 24 And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the Lord met him, and sought to kill him.
25 Then Zipporah took a sharp stone, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet, and said, Surely a bloody husband art thou to me.
26 So he let him go: then she said, A bloody husband thou art, because of the circumcision.

On the start of something huge for God, God has to make sure ALL flesh is removed. They were about to do something glorious for God and He does not allow for disobedience. Moses knew the covenant in which had been made about the cutting of the foreskin, but had neglected to allow this to become an issue with his wife, so he neglected t tell her, and in doing so, almost lost his son.

We cannot allow a little flesh to be a part of the great glorious thing that God is doing here in Fort Worth. we must keep ourselves holy before our God who is holy.

  15. WHAT IS IN YOUR HAND?

2 And the Lord said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod.

Often we excuse ourselves from the work of God because of what we lack. There will always be ample excuses to not be able to accomplish something.

What we learn from the LORD through Moses is that GOD will use the natural to accomplish the supernatural. A natural tree limb became an anointed rod. Not only because it was in the hand of Moses. But because GOD was in the rod.

Man crafted the tree to be a rod. However GOD created the tree. Therefore GOD was in the rod before man ever touched it..

Colossians 1 teaches us that all things consists because of JESUS. Teaching us that whatever is in our hand, GOD can use.

Build up your FAITH today and refuse to complain about what you don’t have and use whatever GOD has placed in your hand.

  16. 2 And the Lord said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod.

3 And he said, Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it.

4 And the Lord said unto Moses, Put forth thine hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand:

It doesn’t matter where you came from or what your past is, it doesn’t matter what you do or don’t have. All God wants is a willing heart, one willing to listen to His voice, and to strive for a holy and righteous life! God used what Moses already had and that’s what he wants to do with us. Lord help us to be more willing to follow you in everything we do!

  17. 19 And the Lord said unto Moses in Midian, Go, return into Egypt: for all the men are dead which sought thy life.

Dont let your past keep you from the call of God. Sometimes people feel unsorthy of what God wants to do in their lives because things they have done in the past. God washed us with His blood and forgave our sins. Just like the men that sought your life are dead so your past when you repent and get washed in the water of baptism in Jesus name and are filled, empowered with His Spirit, to go and do the will of God. Just be willing and obedient, live a righteous life and trust God for yhe impossible.

  18. iLove to eat More Word
    Even Moses Wasn’t Exempt
Exodus 4:24-26 NLT On the way to Egypt, at a place where Moses and his family had stopped for the night, the LORD confronted him and was about to kill him. (25) But Moses’ wife, Zipporah, took a flint knife and circumcised her son. She touched his feet with the foreskin and said, “Now you are a bridegroom of blood to me.” (26) (When she said “a bridegroom of blood,” she was referring to the circumcision.) After that, the LORD left him alone.

The law of circumcision was given to the children of God through Abraham. As Moses was going in obedience to Egypt, his family was out of covenant because his sons were not circumcised. The Lord would have killed him if Zipporah had not stepped in and circumcised the son. Today, baptism in the name of Jesus is spiritual circumcision. We must help people avoid death and help be the intercessor that leads them to the waters of baptism.

  19. God has given him 3 signs to give the Egyptians that the Lord has spoken to him, but one thing holds him back. He says that he is not good at speech, and the Lord becomes upset with him and appoints his brother Aaron to be his spokesman to help speak the message. God knows our weaknesses and for Moses was his speech, since he wasn’t cooperative Aaron was used. The message was still delivered and God still freed his people, but I wonder what would have happended if Moses would have stood up to his fears of speaking and didn’t have the crutch of another. Would the golden calf still of happened? God does everything for a reason we just need to be avaliable and willing.

  20. And Moses said unto the Lord, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.
11 And the Lord said unto him, Who hath made man’s mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the Lord?
12 Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.

There is nothing that can hinder Gid from using someone. We are all able vessels of God.

  21. 12 Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.

So many times I have had reassure myself that if God wants to use me he will give me words to speak . And alot of times just being friendly to people God uses that to speak through me even when I don’t know it. Hind sight is 20/20.

Show yourself friendly to a stranger and see what God will do through you.

  22. v5 That they may believe that the LORD GOD of their fathers, the GOD of Abraham, the GOD of Isaac, and the GOD of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.

GODS WORD IS TRUE and reliable, from the beginning enlightening and guidibg, searching, divine and wonderful.

  23. 26 So he let him go: then she said, A bloody husband thou art, because of the circumcision.

When they heard that he looked upon their affliction…they worshipped.

  24. Exodus 4:15-16 (KJV Strong’s)

And thou shalt speak unto him, and put words in his mouth: and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do.

And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people: and he shall be, even he shall be to thee instead of a mouth, and thou shalt be to him instead of God.

Bro Chester Wright taught something about this verse worth sharing.

The burning bush was blazing and yet Moses did not believe. He saw his hand as leprosy, his rod turn to a snake, and was told to turn water to blood. Even after all of this Moses was still terrified and had no belief in God being able to help him with Pharaoh. As a jab at Moses the Lord said that Aaron would speak for him.

However God wasn’t going to give the words to Aaron. He would give them to Moses and then Moses would give them to Aaron.

The word says that Moses would be to Aaron instead of God.

In other words the source of your words reveals your God. If it’s the word then it is Jesus. If it’s a lot of me me me I I I talk then it is the unsubmitted will.

  25. 10 And Moses said unto the Lord, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.

It seems that even then, when God called Moses for this purpose he still found excuses and argued with God because he felt that he wasn’t worthy of the task. And God made a way for him.
I love that even now we make excuses ” God I cant because…” but the word of God says in Philippians 4: 13 (nkjv) I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO STRENGTHENS ME. He gives us the knowledge to do the things that he calls us to do! He is not gonna send us to do a work for him and not give us the ability, or the strength. He is a wonderful God who has our backs even when we don’t deserve it!!

  26. 15 And thou shalt speak unto him, and put words in his mouth: and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do.

16 And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people: and he shall be, even he shall be to thee instead of a mouth, and thou shalt be to him instead of God.

17 And thou shalt take this rod in thine hand, wherewith thou shalt do signs.

Here’s what I don’t understand, miracles are performed everyday. We hear about them and shrug them off as if it’s nothing. Moses saw first hand of seeing God’s miracles working and still asked for help in speaking to Pharaoh. This is true even today, we see things happen on a daily basis and still there is some disbelief. God will work in our lives, we just have to trust and believe that it has already happened and thank God for it.

  27. “And the Lord said unto Moses, Put forth thine hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand: That they may believe that the Lord God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.”
    ‭‭Exodus‬ ‭4:4-5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

God told Moses to take the snake by the tail. When Moses did what God told him to do, he had extra steps. God will often tell us about the end result without telling all the details leading up to the end. Morse had to first catch the snake before he could take it by the tail and hold it to change its form. I wonder how many things on our lives are just waiting for us to put forth a tiny bit of extra effort before it is accomplished.

  28. 15 And thou shalt speak unto him, and put words in his mouth: and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do.
God showed Moses that he could trust him and that he would give him the words to speak. still today God uses the mouths of men who are obedient to God and allow God to speak through them just as God told Moses he will teach us what we shall do and what we shall say when it is time to speak His Word and as ministers we should always be open to speak with God speaks when he tells us.

  29. 22 And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the Lord, Israel is my son, even my firstborn: 23 And I say unto thee, Let my son go, that he may serve me: and if thou refuse to let him go, behold, I will slay thy son, even thy firstborn.

The Creator (Jesus) did as he said he would then, and shall do all that he has said again. One that cannot see that Israel is indeed important to God (Jesus), shall see, on the day the Judge (Jesus) decides. Dear God, let me not forget to pray for your blessings on your firstborn, daily; “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In GOD we trust”. “One Nation under GOD, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all”. What a mighty GOD we serve! Thank GOD for his word. GOD bless America, Jerusalem, and you all in JESUS name, Amen!

  30. “GOD said, “And who do you think made the human mouth? And who makes some mute, some deaf, some sighted, some blind? Isn’t it I, GOD? So, get going. I’ll be right there with you—with your mouth! I’ll be right there to teach you what to say.””
    ‭‭Exodus‬ ‭4:11-12‬ ‭MSG‬‬
    http://bible.com/97/exo.4.11-12.msg

God made you unique and special for a reason. Don’t think he doesn’t love you just the way you are. Let your uniqueness be used for his glory.

  31. Moses la led the confidence that he could do what God was calling him to do, so the Lord demonstrated His power to him so he would know it as the Lord speaking to him. Many times we wait to do what we feel God calling us to because we lack boldness or confidence, but if we can get past “our flesh” God will reveal himself to us and provide to us
Whatever we are lacking to do what He is calling us to do .

  32. 11 And the Lord said unto him, Who hath made man’s mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the Lord?

12 Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.

If God is calling you to speak to someone about the gospel, don’t make the excuse that you are shy, I know cause I have done this many a time. But if God wants you to speak to someone, he will give you the voice that the person needs to hear.

  33. 1 And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice: for they will say, The Lord hath not appeared unto thee.

God used what was in Moses hand to show him He had already equipped him with the tools necessary for the journey. The problem is that if we decided to put down the tools God is using through us; it wil become the very thing that will break us.

You see Moses carnal state of “they will not believe me” left him vulnerable so God had to show him the supernatural to get him to walk in the spirit and not allow the things around him to make him react in a way that would be enmity against God.

    Romans 8:7
Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
