Exodus 21

1 Now these are the judgments which thou shalt set before them.

2 If thou buy an Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve: and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing.

3 If he came in by himself, he shall go out by himself: if he were married, then his wife shall go out with him.

4 If his master have given him a wife, and she have born him sons or daughters; the wife and her children shall be her master’s, and he shall go out by himself.

5 And if the servant shall plainly say, I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free:

6 Then his master shall bring him unto the judges; he shall also bring him to the door, or unto the door post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an aul; and he shall serve him for ever.

7 And if a man sell his daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not go out as the menservants do.

8 If she please not her master, who hath betrothed her to himself, then shall he let her be redeemed: to sell her unto a strange nation he shall have no power, seeing he hath dealt deceitfully with her.

9 And if he have betrothed her unto his son, he shall deal with her after the manner of daughters.

10 If he take him another wife; her food, her raiment, and her duty of marriage, shall he not diminish.

11 And if he do not these three unto her, then shall she go out free without money.

12 He that smiteth a man, so that he die, shall be surely put to death.

13 And if a man lie not in wait, but God deliver him into his hand; then I will appoint thee a place whither he shall flee.

14 But if a man come presumptuously upon his neighbour, to slay him with guile; thou shalt take him from mine altar, that he may die.

15 And he that smiteth his father, or his mother, shall be surely put to death.

16 And he that stealeth a man, and selleth him, or if he be found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death.

17 And he that curseth his father, or his mother, shall surely be put to death.

18 And if men strive together, and one smite another with a stone, or with his fist, and he die not, but keepeth his bed:

19 If he rise again, and walk abroad upon his staff, then shall he that smote him be quit: only he shall pay for the loss of his time, and shall cause him to be thoroughly healed.

20 And if a man smite his servant, or his maid, with a rod, and he die under his hand; he shall be surely punished.

21 Notwithstanding, if he continue a day or two, he shall not be punished: for he is his money.

22 If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman’s husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.

23 And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life,

24 Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,

25 Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.

26 And if a man smite the eye of his servant, or the eye of his maid, that it perish; he shall let him go free for his eye’s sake.

27 And if he smite out his manservant’s tooth, or his maidservant’s tooth; he shall let him go free for his tooth’s sake.

28 If an ox gore a man or a woman, that they die: then the ox shall be surely stoned, and his flesh shall not be eaten; but the owner of the ox shall be quit.

29 But if the ox were wont to push with his horn in time past, and it hath been testified to his owner, and he hath not kept him in, but that he hath killed a man or a woman; the ox shall be stoned, and his owner also shall be put to death.

30 If there be laid on him a sum of money, then he shall give for the ransom of his life whatsoever is laid upon him.

31 Whether he have gored a son, or have gored a daughter, according to this judgment shall it be done unto him.

32 If the ox shall push a manservant or a maidservant; he shall give unto their master thirty shekels of silver, and the ox shall be stoned.

33 And if a man shall open a pit, or if a man shall dig a pit, and not cover it, and an ox or an ass fall therein;

34 The owner of the pit shall make it good, and give money unto the owner of them; and the dead beast shall be his.

35 And if one man’s ox hurt another’s, that he die; then they shall sell the live ox, and divide the money of it; and the dead ox also they shall divide.

36 Or if it be known that the ox hath used to push in time past, and his owner hath not kept him in; he shall surely pay ox for ox; and the dead shall be his own.

  1. 22 If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman’s husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.

The laying of hands doesnt always mean healing. Oh mercy, Lord.

  2. iLove to eat More Word

5 And if the servant shall plainly say, I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free:

6 Then his master shall bring him unto the judges; he shall also bring him to the door, or unto the door post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an aul; and he shall serve him for ever.

The earring was worn as a token of slavery in the ancient time. Modern society has used the earring today for a symbol of freedom, however it is not biblical to do do. Biblically it defines a slave who has decided to live their entire lives to their master.

  3. Pray for our nation. Our nation was founded on Biblical principals and the laws were set up accordingly. Getting back to those basic tenants of our history, may save our nation from itself. We must fear God in everything that we do. Pray for revival to this great nation.

  4. 5 But the slave may declare, ‘I love my master, my wife, and my children. I don’t want to go free.’ (NLT)

This reminds me of a message I heard at a youth event a few months ago. The preacher used this verse, and I believe some other similar ones in context, and compared them to us being the servants of God. We have the opportunity and privilege to serve God, no one forces us to. At a certain point we have a decision to make, do we serve Him or walk away “free” to do our own will and desires? Like this verse says, we can chose to declare, “I love my master” and my family, and because I love them I choose to serve God. I know I am forever indebted to Chirst for the price He paid on Calvary, I love my master, my savior, redeemer and friend. I chose to serve the Lord!

  5. MORE CONSEQUENCES

1 Now these are the judgments which thou shalt set before them.

GOD in his infinite wisdom has established the boundaries and guidelines for offenses. GOD established the judgments, the man of GOD simply warns and instructs others of the WORD of GOD.

Prior to the birth of JESUS, his life, death, resurrection, ascension and outpouring at Pentecost the judgment of GOD came on the flesh. Following the birth of the church and the New Birth salvation in the book of Acts, now the judgements of GOD are executed spiritually. People may perceive today that there is no judgment, however if we could see what happens spiritually when sin is committed. There are spiritual deaths when offenses are heavenly recorded.

We should appreciate the men and women of GOD that HE places in our lives to make us aware of offenses in the WORD of GOD. Understanding that MORE CONSEQUENCES await the sinner at judgment day, when all thoughts, words and deeds of our lives are presented before the eternal throne of judgment.

  6. The Laws
    Here the Heb
Means Guiding Decisions. These are illustrate laws intended to provide future generation of judges with precedent that can serve as a guide for there decision .

  7. 22 If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman’s husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.

Life is conceived at conception, not any time after. The bible shows evidence of this. It is not a cell, but a baby, human life.

  8. God Belives in death sentence

12 He that smiteth a man, so that he die, shall be surely put to death.

Many people have criticized me for my hard believes in death sentence. Whom ever knows me, knows I have been involved in the law enforcement and legal world for a while. I am a true believer that the punishment should fit the crime. I have also know that the justice system has failed us both ways for the good and for the bad. Yes there are innocent people in jail that have been set free thanks to DNA testing, but also we have criminals that have played the system of civil rights and appeals to get away with murder. BUT GOD’S JUSTICE IS DIVINE AND CAN NOT BE ESCAPED. FOR HE IS RIGHTIOUS, WORTHY, AND JUST!! May we have a fear and reverence for God that we would never even contemplate a life of crime in Jesus Name AMEN

  9. Exodus 21:5-6
    5) And if the servant shall plainly say, I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free:
    6) Then his master shall bring him unto the judges; he shall also bring him to the door, or unto the door post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an aul; and he shall serve him for ever.

This servant loved his master so much that he was willing to serve him forever.
Can we say the same thing about our Master, Jesus Christ. Do we love Him so much that we are willing to serve Him forever?

    MORE Love for JESUS!

  10. 24 Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,

The laws put into place to Moses were established to protect the people. Where would our country be today if we still practiced these laws…..we would be the land of the brave and the free. Unfortunately for us the world has gone haywire and set it’s own set of rules where evil is good and good is evil.

  11. 15 “If someone hits father or mother, the penalty is death.
17 “If someone curses father or mother, the penalty is death.

Exodus 20:12 Honor your father and mother so that you’ll live a long time in the land that God, your God, is giving you.

Leviticus 19:3 “Every one of you must respect his mother and father. “Keep my Sabbaths. I am God, your God.

  12. 5) And if the servant shall plainly say, I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free:
    6) Then his master shall bring him unto the judges; he shall also bring him to the door, or unto the door post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an aul; and he shall serve him for ever.

I believe that the masters were good to their servants back then, and I believe that while he loved his master, he loved his wife and his children more so! if the master said ok you may take your wife and children I truly believe in my heart that he would have taken them and left because in a case like that he would have not normally been allowed. But with the love for his wife and children and the goodness that I believe his master showed him he didn’t want to leave, because who wants to leave a good situation? But the pain of the aul being shoved in their ear..thats LOVE

  13. 5 And if the servant shall plainly say, I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free:
6 Then his master shall bring him unto the judges; he shall also bring him to the door, or unto the door post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an aul; and he shall serve him for ever.

Ear rings. They are a sign of being sold out to their master. Thank you Jesus he does not ask us to bore our ears to show that we are sold out to him. Be a sold out Christian and follow Christ.

  14. 4 But if a man come presumptuously upon his neighbour, to slay him with guile; thou shalt take him from mine altar, that he may die.

15 And he that smiteth his father, or his mother, shall be surely put to death.

16 And he that stealeth a man, and selleth him, or if he be found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death.

17 And he that curseth his father, or his mother, shall surely be put to death.

Talk about bringing respect…how about paying with your life. And all this was done to protect and ser boundaries. It all comes down to loving God and loving your neighboor. Love is key to having respect.

  15. “”Here are the laws you must explain to the people of Israel.”
    ‭‭Exodus‬ ‭21:1‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

Reading over these laws makes me think that they must have had better order in their time. People seemed to have been more compassionate with each other. And more accountable and thought about their consequences before doing a crime. Things now seem so backwards and unbiblically sound.

  16. Exodus 21:22 (Message)

22 “When there’s a fight and in the fight a pregnant woman is hit so that she miscarries but is not otherwise hurt, the one responsible has to pay whatever the husband demands in compensation.

The Lord carries about unborn babies. When a woman lost her child because she was hit then the husband would demand a price that must be paid.

How much more does God require of those who abort his children? He cares deeply about physical and spiritual babies. Every soul counts.

  17. 34 The owner of the pit shall make it good, and give money unto the owner of them; and the dead beast shall be his.
in this passage we see good godly principles to live by an eye for an eye a tooth for tooth treat your neighbor as you would want to be treated good valuable godly instructions on how to live with our brothers and sisters.

  18. V.17 talks about not having respect for your parents. We are to honor our mother and father and we live longer. It is sad to hear how young people talk to their parents nowadays, when I was growing up it was yes ma’am and no ma’am and yes sir and no sir. You hardly ever hear anymore thank you and your welcome. Let’s have respect for our parents we only have one set of parents!

  19. “Now these are the judgments which thou shalt set before them”. The Creator (Jesus) was very clear, just as he will be on the day appointed (judgement day). It means very little, if anything, on what one may think. Whereas it means, everything, on what the rule book (God’s word) states. One that cannot see the miracle and benefit of baptism in Jesus name after reading what was/is required, is truly unwise; as one will answer for everything that is not under the blood of Jesus (God). Dear God, thank you for your blood, which I do not deserve; Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In God we trust”. “One Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all”. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  20. Oh Jesus help us!!! So many things that can kill us not because I day it but because the Word says it. Like I believe all of Gods promises I believe he will punish us also when we do not obey him. Jesus is the only way to being free from sin and standing up to all the lies the devil has want us to think. I have made up my mind in serving my Lord everyday of my life because I was created to praise Him. The devil hates it when I praise My God but I will praise Him in the good and the hard times because I know that I am His child and will never forsake me!!! HALLELUJAHHHHHH!!!!!

  21. In this scripture, it gives direction of the handling of slaves. It gives instructions on how to handle other family member issues as well, such as wife, children, and the release of slaves due to time served sort of speak. In this scripture it also gives direction of livestock incidents as well, for the wellbeing of family. This is designed to compensate for any loss occurred due to livestock accidents or deaths in any slave families. This type of dispensation is due to any slave family who obtained a loss of life or livestock/property of family member. See in this chapter, it is essentially discussing financial issues, such as; property, livestock, or servants, even though Thank God Slavery has been abolished years ago in the United States, but yet still you hear about it today in other countries.

You hear about slave trades, sex slaves, slave children, and many other evil methods of used by the devil to enslave people. May God, set all captives free in Jesus name, Amen……………………………….

“Jesus came to set at liberty, to those who are captive”……………………

    “LIBERTY”…………………………….”THE BLOOD”…………………………………..

  22. This chapter talked about laws, regulations and boundaries. Since the beginning of time God saw that this was good. In today’s world, people have turned this into loop holes, excuses and breaking out. Help us Lord….JESUS today YOU will SAVE me.

  23. No more shackles no more chains, no more bondage I am free!

“And if a man smite the eye of his servant, or the eye of his maid, that it perish; he shall let him go free for his eye’s sake. And if he smite out his manservant’s tooth, or his maidservant’s tooth; he shall let him go free for his tooth’s sake.”
    ‭‭Exodus‬ ‭21:26-27‬ ‭KJV

Sometimes the thing that has you bound takes such a part in you life that it’s difficult to tell the importance. It is important to remember that when these things happen we are to look at the outcome in our lives. Yes, we did get hurt, but wow the freedom the LoRd gives. Yes some people have scares but they are no longer bound by their situations.

  24. 2 If thou buy an Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve: and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing.

Seven is the biblical number of completion. In the begining it symbolized God’s completion of creation and time for rest. In Revelation it represented the completion of judgment (seals) and time for his people to be reunited with Him. The year the Hebrew servant is to be turned free in the seventh year only shows the power behind divine completion in God’s timing.

  25. “However, if he did not lie in wait, but God delivered him into his hand, then I will appoint for you a place where he may flee.”(Exodus‬ ‭21:13‬ ‭NKJV)

    And if a man lie not in wait,…. For the life of another to take it away; or does not do it willingly, being suffered and ordered by the providence of God, without whose knowledge and will nothing comes to pass, even what may seem to be a contingent thing, or matter of chance, to us; or it is so brought about in providence, that one man falls into the hands of another, and his life is taken away by him, though not purposely and maliciously;

  26. 17 And he that curseth his father, or his mother, shall surely be put to death.

WOW!!! This is crazy, and a lot of young people today do not know or have read this verse. Many things today are said so casually, The word love, it is used to describe a superficial feeling. Or like the words, “I hate you”. These words are you so casually today and we do not realize how harmful they are.

Let’s not forget to teach our children to never disrespect his mother or father. It is better for them to be obedient good to put on a curgse of death.
