Exodus 27

1 And thou shalt make an altar of shittim wood, five cubits long, and five cubits broad; the altar shall be foursquare: and the height thereof shall be three cubits.

2 And thou shalt make the horns of it upon the four corners thereof: his horns shall be of the same: and thou shalt overlay it with brass.

3 And thou shalt make his pans to receive his ashes, and his shovels, and his basons, and his fleshhooks, and his firepans: all the vessels thereof thou shalt make of brass.

4 And thou shalt make for it a grate of network of brass; and upon the net shalt thou make four brasen rings in the four corners thereof.

5 And thou shalt put it under the compass of the altar beneath, that the net may be even to the midst of the altar.

6 And thou shalt make staves for the altar, staves of shittim wood, and overlay them with brass.

7 And the staves shall be put into the rings, and the staves shall be upon the two sides of the altar, to bear it.

8 Hollow with boards shalt thou make it: as it was shewed thee in the mount, so shall they make it.

9 And thou shalt make the court of the tabernacle: for the south side southward there shall be hangings for the court of fine twined linen of an hundred cubits long for one side:

10 And the twenty pillars thereof and their twenty sockets shall be of brass; the hooks of the pillars and their fillets shall be of silver.

11 And likewise for the north side in length there shall be hangings of an hundred cubits long, and his twenty pillars and their twenty sockets of brass; the hooks of the pillars and their fillets of silver.

12 And for the breadth of the court on the west side shall be hangings of fifty cubits: their pillars ten, and their sockets ten.

13 And the breadth of the court on the east side eastward shall be fifty cubits.

14 The hangings of one side of the gate shall be fifteen cubits: their pillars three, and their sockets three.

15 And on the other side shall be hangings fifteen cubits: their pillars three, and their sockets three.

16 And for the gate of the court shall be an hanging of twenty cubits, of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen, wrought with needlework: and their pillars shall be four, and their sockets four.

17 All the pillars round about the court shall be filleted with silver; their hooks shall be of silver, and their sockets of brass.

18 The length of the court shall be an hundred cubits, and the breadth fifty every where, and the height five cubits of fine twined linen, and their sockets of brass.

19 All the vessels of the tabernacle in all the service thereof, and all the pins thereof, and all the pins of the court, shall be of brass.

20 And thou shalt command the children of Israel, that they bring thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamp to burn always.

21 In the tabernacle of the congregation without the vail, which is before the testimony, Aaron and his sons shall order it from evening to morning before the Lord: it shall be a statute for ever unto their generations on the behalf of the children of Israel.

  1. 20 And thou shalt command the children of Israel, that they bring thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamp to burn always.

21 In the tabernacle of the congregation without the vail, which is before the testimony, Aaron and his sons shall order it from evening to morning before the Lord: it shall be a statute for ever unto their generations on the behalf of the children of Israel.

From the darkest night to the light of day God ordered a lamp to light your way. To burn for ever from generation to generation. This is before you even get to the holy place, before the testimony(ark of the covenant). And likewise in life God will be that light burning for us even in the dark of night, drawing us out of the dark and closer to his holy places and leading us to our own testimonies that can be passed down as part of your heritage and legacy to your children. We are the servants of the most high God and we must remember and teach our children(especially if we are first generation) of the first generation sacrifices, lest they be forgotten.

  2. HORNS OF THE ALTAR

    (qare-noth ha-mizbeach):

    1. The Brazen Altar:

These projections at the four corners of the altar of burnt offering were of one piece with the altar, and were made of acacia wood overlaid with brass (Exodus 27:2, “bronze”). In Ezekiel’s altar-specifications their position is described as being on a level with the altar hearth (Ezekiel 43:15). Fugitives seeking asylum might cling to the horns of the altar, as did Adonijah (1 Kings 1:50), which is one proof among many that worshippers had at all times access to the neighborhood of the altar. On certain occasions, as at the consecration of Aaron and his sons (Exodus 29:12), and a sin offering for one of the people of the land (Leviticus 4:30), the horns were touched with sacrificial blood.

Thanks he to God that there is a altar for us to run to and find him and thanks be to God that it has “horn” or a place for us to find mercy and shelter from the things we left behind in order to find refuge in Him.

Yet, it is important we read Amos 3 and not allow ouse lives to worship false gods because He will break off the horns from the altar and there will be no place of refuge.

  3. Instructions are given for a reason. There is a certain way to do things. God has a way he wants things done. The instructions of his word should be followed throughly. You can’t cut corners with directions that God hands out. Following every word that proceeds out of God’s mouth is the key to being successful.

  4. KEEP THE FIRE BURNING

20 And thou shalt command the children of Israel, that they bring thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamp to burn always.

The church, the congregation, the people, we are responsible for bringing our lives purified by the oil of sacrifice to add to the fire, our crushed lives, our broken dreams, our hopeless situations that we refuse to allow to destroy us. These experiences bring us HOPE.These bring light to others. The LIGHT of the WORLD (JESUS).

As we continue to OVERCOME adversity and challenge to persevere in Christ JESUS we are the vessels of oil that KEEP THE FIRE BURNING. Dont quit, don’t give up, don’t retreat, keep your heart fixed and your mind made up. Keep your ALTAR pure, your PRAISE passionate and your SPIRIT right with GOD.

  5. 20 And thou shalt command the children of Israel, that they bring thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamp to burn always.

God wants to keep the altar of sacrifice lid at all times. He’s giving us opportunities to make things right with God.

  6. 21 In the tabernacle of the congregation without the vail, which is before the testimony, Aaron and his sons shall order it from evening to morning before the Lord: it shall be a statute for ever unto their generations on the behalf of the children of Israel.

  7. In reading the end of the chapter where it talks about the light for the Tabernacle, it reminded me of how we too are to keep our light burning for Jesus. We cannot allow other peoples thoughts, words, actions or the circumstances of life to bring our light to just a flicker; but, turn these things around to make us come back MORE on fire….allowing our flame to GROW in Jesus name!

  8. Exodus 27:20 (NLT)
    Light for the Tabernacle
20 “Command the people of Israel to bring you pure oil of pressed olives for the light, to keep the lamps burning continually.

I’m reminded that our relationship with God does not have a break. We are to perpetually and continuously walk in fellowship with him. If we let the light die out we risk missing opportunities and revelations. A smoker doesn’t ever stop smoking. They go until they feel the need to take another drag.

Our walk with God should resemble an addiction. We can’t get enough of him. We don’t want to put down our bibles, and we don’t want to leave our places of prayer. Keep the candle burning.

  9. iLove to eat more Word

The lamp was commanded to always burn and be full of oil. This of course is symbolic of the New Testament believer always being full of the Holy Ghost. The vail has now been removed and relationship has been restored.

  10. Stick to the plan!

We see Moses getting instruction for the tabernacle. Following those instructions were crucial to the excellency of the work that God had called Moses to do. Moses
didn’t see what would work him and say that was the best he could do. Moses found a way to do what was asked of him with accuracy, precision and excellency. We are called to do the same today. If we are going to do a work for the Lord, he is the boss. He tells us what to do, and we do it. We cannot just pick and choose what works for us. The plan is the plan. He is the master architect and we are the builders. Let’s build and GROW!

  11. Exodus 27:20 Command the israelites to bring you clear oil of pressed olives for the light so that the lamps may be kept burning. In the tent of meeting outside the curtain that shields the ark of the covenant law, Aaron and his sons are to keep the lamps burning before the Lord from evening till morning. This is to be lasting ordinance among the israelites for the generations to come.

  12. 21 In the tabernacle of the congregation without the vail, which is before the testimony, Aaron and his sons shall order it from evening to morning before the Lord: it shall be a statute for ever unto their generations on the behalf of the children of Israel.

  13. 21 In the tabernacle of the congregation without the vail, which is before the testimony, Aaron and his sons shall order it from evening to morning before the Lord: it shall be a statute for ever unto their generations on the behalf of the children of Israel.

We should not hide our church behind a vail and keep what God has given us to ourselves and but we should have the vail removed so other people can see the gospel being preached and hear the truth of God’s word!

  14. “It shall be a statute for ever unto their generations on the behalf of the children of Israel”. The word of God (Jesus) never stated if they felt like it, or only if they wanted too. The point is, one would be wise to obey what the word of God and man of God says, and be cautious of anyone that may say it is no longer required or necessary. Dear God, help me too be wise to the deceivers (satan) tactics; Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In God we trust”. “One Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all”. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  15. 20 And thou shalt command the children of Israel, that they bring thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamp to burn always.
We need to have our lamps burning and full of oil at all times. We should be ready and willing to share our testimonies. We were called to share the gospel of Jesus.

  16. 20 And thou shalt command the children of Israel, that they bring thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamp to burn always.

21 In the tabernacle of the congregation without the vail, which is before the testimony, Aaron and his sons shall order it from evening to morning before the Lord: it shall be a statute for ever unto their generations on the behalf of the children of Israel.

  17. And thou shalt command the children of Israel, that they bring thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamp to burn always.
    .
We must make sure to be filled with His Spirit to burn always with Light and bear fruit that Jesus lives in us.

  18. “And thou shalt command the children of Israel, that they bring thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamp to burn always.”
    ‭‭Exodus‬ ‭27:20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

This is a point in The Bible where it is pointing to Jesus in the future. Jesus was pure and beaten for us. Out of his expirence we were able to have he comforter with us who is the Holy Spirit. Jesus is what gives us the light that people see in us Today because he is the light of the world. He is also the anointing that flows through us. He was beaten for us and now we have the oil (Holy Ghost) and the light to shine in this dark world.

  19. God had specific, detailed instructions for the building and design of the Tabernacle down to the materials used, and how long, how wide they were to be cut.

If God was so specific in detail for this plan, what makes us think that He does not have specific details for our lives as well? The 66 books of the bible is full of details that will help us to live victorious, overcoming lives as christians serving our purpose for His kingdom. It’s time to get in the book, follow the directions and build our lives according to God’s plan.

  20. 2 And thou shalt make the horns of it upon the four corners thereof: his horns shall be of the same: and thou shalt overlay it with brass.

Those who were guilty of great criminal sins could find asylum by grasping the horns of the altar in an appeal to God’s mercy. Joash and Adonijah both ran to the horns at the altar out of fear of ultimate execution judgment (1 Ki 1:49-51 & 1 Ki 2:28-29). The difference in their fate lied in their hearts. Solomon said “If he shows himself to be worthy, not a hair of his head will fall to the ground; but if evil is found in him, he will die.” (1 Ki 1:52) on the other hand Joash was ready to reject the rejection he feared Solomon would sentence him with. Joash’s response says it all “No, I will die here.” in 1 Ki 2:30 because he knew he was guilty of inoccent blood. A repentant hear changes everything because running for the horns of the altar and throwing ourselves at God’s mercy doesn’t gaurantee a pardon.
