Exodus 28

1 And take thou unto thee Aaron thy brother, and his sons with him, from among the children of Israel, that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office, even Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron’s sons.

2 And thou shalt make holy garments for Aaron thy brother for glory and for beauty.

3 And thou shalt speak unto all that are wise hearted, whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron’s garments to consecrate him, that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office.

4 And these are the garments which they shall make; a breastplate, and an ephod, and a robe, and a broidered coat, a mitre, and a girdle: and they shall make holy garments for Aaron thy brother, and his sons, that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office.

5 And they shall take gold, and blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen.

6 And they shall make the ephod of gold, of blue, and of purple, of scarlet, and fine twined linen, with cunning work.

7 It shall have the two shoulderpieces thereof joined at the two edges thereof; and so it shall be joined together.

8 And the curious girdle of the ephod, which is upon it, shall be of the same, according to the work thereof; even of gold, of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen.

9 And thou shalt take two onyx stones, and grave on them the names of the children of Israel:

10 Six of their names on one stone, and the other six names of the rest on the other stone, according to their birth.

11 With the work of an engraver in stone, like the engravings of a signet, shalt thou engrave the two stones with the names of the children of Israel: thou shalt make them to be set in ouches of gold.

12 And thou shalt put the two stones upon the shoulders of the ephod for stones of memorial unto the children of Israel: and Aaron shall bear their names before the Lord upon his two shoulders for a memorial.

13 And thou shalt make ouches of gold;

14 And two chains of pure gold at the ends; of wreathen work shalt thou make them, and fasten the wreathen chains to the ouches.

15 And thou shalt make the breastplate of judgment with cunning work; after the work of the ephod thou shalt make it; of gold, of blue, and of purple, and of scarlet, and of fine twined linen, shalt thou make it.

16 Foursquare it shall be being doubled; a span shall be the length thereof, and a span shall be the breadth thereof.

17 And thou shalt set in it settings of stones, even four rows of stones: the first row shall be a sardius, a topaz, and a carbuncle: this shall be the first row.

18 And the second row shall be an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond.

19 And the third row a ligure, an agate, and an amethyst.

20 And the fourth row a beryl, and an onyx, and a jasper: they shall be set in gold in their inclosings.

21 And the stones shall be with the names of the children of Israel, twelve, according to their names, like the engravings of a signet; every one with his name shall they be according to the twelve tribes.

22 And thou shalt make upon the breastplate chains at the ends of wreathen work of pure gold.

23 And thou shalt make upon the breastplate two rings of gold, and shalt put the two rings on the two ends of the breastplate.

24 And thou shalt put the two wreathen chains of gold in the two rings which are on the ends of the breastplate.

25 And the other two ends of the two wreathen chains thou shalt fasten in the two ouches, and put them on the shoulderpieces of the ephod before it.

26 And thou shalt make two rings of gold, and thou shalt put them upon the two ends of the breastplate in the border thereof, which is in the side of the ephod inward.

27 And two other rings of gold thou shalt make, and shalt put them on the two sides of the ephod underneath, toward the forepart thereof, over against the other coupling thereof, above the curious girdle of the ephod.

28 And they shall bind the breastplate by the rings thereof unto the rings of the ephod with a lace of blue, that it may be above the curious girdle of the ephod, and that the breastplate be not loosed from the ephod.

29 And Aaron shall bear the names of the children of Israel in the breastplate of judgment upon his heart, when he goeth in unto the holy place, for a memorial before the Lord continually.

30 And thou shalt put in the breastplate of judgment the Urim and the Thummim; and they shall be upon Aaron’s heart, when he goeth in before the Lord: and Aaron shall bear the judgment of the children of Israel upon his heart before the Lord continually.

31 And thou shalt make the robe of the ephod all of blue.

32 And there shall be an hole in the top of it, in the midst thereof: it shall have a binding of woven work round about the hole of it, as it were the hole of an habergeon, that it be not rent.

33 And beneath upon the hem of it thou shalt make pomegranates of blue, and of purple, and of scarlet, round about the hem thereof; and bells of gold between them round about:

34 A golden bell and a pomegranate, a golden bell and a pomegranate, upon the hem of the robe round about.

35 And it shall be upon Aaron to minister: and his sound shall be heard when he goeth in unto the holy place before the Lord, and when he cometh out, that he die not.

36 And thou shalt make a plate of pure gold, and grave upon it, like the engravings of a signet, Holiness To The Lord.

37 And thou shalt put it on a blue lace, that it may be upon the mitre; upon the forefront of the mitre it shall be.

38 And it shall be upon Aaron’s forehead, that Aaron may bear the iniquity of the holy things, which the children of Israel shall hallow in all their holy gifts; and it shall be always upon his forehead, that they may be accepted before the Lord.

39 And thou shalt embroider the coat of fine linen, and thou shalt make the mitre of fine linen, and thou shalt make the girdle of needlework.

40 And for Aaron’s sons thou shalt make coats, and thou shalt make for them girdles, and bonnets shalt thou make for them, for glory and for beauty.

41 And thou shalt put them upon Aaron thy brother, and his sons with him; and shalt anoint them, and consecrate them, and sanctify them, that they may minister unto me in the priest’s office.

42 And thou shalt make them linen breeches to cover their nakedness; from the loins even unto the thighs they shall reach:

43 And they shall be upon Aaron, and upon his sons, when they come in unto the tabernacle of the congregation, or when they come near unto the altar to minister in the holy place; that they bear not iniquity, and die: it shall be a statute for ever unto him and his seed after him.

  1. 29 And Aaron shall bear the names of the children of Israel in the breastplate of judgment upon his heart, when he goeth in unto the holy place, for a memorial before the Lord continually.

As the priests of our home we hold the names of our children in our heart and until they are grown we bear the weight of their sin. If you have a young child that can appear lost this is quite an issue. Are you praying? Are you going before the Lord in regards to that child? As the priest of your house it is your responsibility to go before the Lord. Take instruction and execute God’s plan. Bring peace to your home. In Jesus name. Hallelujah!

  2. There is so much detail in this chapter, when it came to the garments of the priests. Verse 3 AMP says “Tell all the skilled and talented people whom I have endowed with a spirit of wisdom, that they are to make Aaron’s garments to sanctify him and set him apart to serve as a priest for Me.” This makes me think of how we too should be set apart from this world as we serve Jesus. We should be different, look different, sound different, act different; every detail should show….Jesus.

  3. It appears that Judah is represented by the Ruby; at least by my count. If that is the true I can understand why. A little research on the ruby reveals that some believe the ruby is a stone of nobility, considered the most magnificent of all gems, the queen of stones and the stone of kings. Some believe it surpasses all other precious stones in virtue, and its value exceeded even that of the Diamond.

In similar fashion praise has the same characteristics!

  4. GLORIOUS APPAREL

GOD has a preferred, proposed apparel for ministers. Along with Spiritual promotion came apparel provision. The people of GOD provided the GLORIOUS APPAREL for Aaron to be prepared to minister unto the LORD in the office of the priest.

2 things I glean from this passage.

    1. GOD expects Ministers to dress the part. Godly, Respectfully and Professionally to Minister.

    2. GOD expects the people to provide the garments for the ministers.

I am thankful for Leadership in my life that has taught me this principal.

NO. We do not attempt to impress GOD with costly apparel, however, I would estimate that any apparel made to the guidelines identified in chapter 28 would be of significant investment.

We adorn ourselves in GLORIOUS APPAREL because we are approaching a GLORIOUS, GRACIOUS GOD and HE deserves our BEST!

  5. Exodus 28:1,”AND take thou unto thee Aaron thy brother, and his sons with him, from among the children of Israel, that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office, even Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar, Aaron’s sons.”
Exodus 28:12, “And thou shalt put the two stones upon the shoulders of the ephod for stones of memorial unto the children of Israel: and Aaron shall bear their names before the Lord upon his shoulders for a memorial.”
Exodus 28:29,”And Aaron shall bear the names of the children of Israel in the breastplate of judgment upon his heart, when he goeth in unto the holy place, for a memorial before the LORD continually.”

First, the priest was to minister unto the Lord.
Second, the shoulders were considered a place of work. The priest had to work for and with the people.
Third, the priest was to bear the names of the children of Israel upon the breastplate of judgment upon his heart. He was to have a love for the people.

    Sounds like a pastor.
Thank you JESUS for our Pastor who serves you first, works for and with us, and loves and prays for us!

  6. 36 And thou shalt make a plate of pure gold, and grave upon it, like the engravings of a signet, Holiness To The Lord.

There’s many details that have to be met to make the garments the doses had to wear as a priest. What caught my attention the most was the breast plate with the engraving Holiness to the Lord!

It reminds me of all the people that have that concept that God only wants your heart. They think that you can live like a heathen and still be saved. No one is always saved unless they are always in the spirit. I love to see the standards that are upheld among the leadership of my church. Most people see them as rules, but they are simply standards that can help you be saved and be acceptable before God. They are not done with the purpose only to uphold your testimony as a ministry but to give honor to Gods command, to be Holy because his is Holy!

  7. 36 And thou shalt make a plate of pure gold, and grave upon it, like the engravings of a signet, Holiness To The Lord.

37 And thou shalt put it on a blue lace, that it may be upon the mitre; upon the forefront of the mitre it shall be.

Caught my attention the most of this engraving; Holiness to the Lord. The position of it would be right on the preist’s head in the front. May we never forget what God is expecting from his saints and his ministers.

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

  8. At the end of verse three in the NLT, it says, “that will distinguish him a priest set apart for my service.” God has called us to be apart from this world; with that, we should be sure that we are identifiable and distinguished to those of this world. I know it makes me happy when people stop me and ask about my apparel, my hair, and overall appearance; some who know about Pentecost even jump straight to it and quickly call me out on it. Although our appearance should distinguish us as set apart, we also must have the proper attitude, because what a shame it would be if someone noticed our appearance but then backed off because we were busy yelling, complaining, or just flat out didn’t look approachable.

When we distinguish ourselves as set apart from this world, it shouldn’t be because we want to look the part but because we know it will bring Him glory. The verse says, “set apart for my service.” The way we look and the attitude we portray is a service to God! It’s not just to look cute and be cool, but it’s all for His glory because you never know who you will pass at the store, at your job, or at school that will notice the way you are. We must not only appear to be God’s people but act it too. Pastor just finished preaching a whole series on joy and how we should always have a smile on our face and and joy in our hearts. Can others notice your joy? Maybe instead of stopping to ask about our apparel, someone who doesn’t know God would stop and ask, “I noticed you are always so joyful, why is that?” Boom, an open opportunity to save a soul.

  9. iLove to Grow in the Word
1 And take thou unto thee Aaron thy brother, and his sons with him, from among the children of Israel, that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office, even Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron’s sons.

In these verses we notice that God has selected Aarons sons to serve in the priesthood. It is simply Gods plan and He chose to place them in that certain office according to His will. In these next scriptures we will notice that God placed the Spirit of Wisdom into those who would make the garments for the priesthood.

3 And thou shalt speak unto all that are wise hearted, whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron’s garments to consecrate him, that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office.

This shows me that God places the body members where he sees fit and equips those members with the wisdom and tools they need to perform the tasks that are required. Thank You Jesus for placing us exactly where we need to be and for helping us take root to fulfil our part in the kingdom.

  10. 34 A golden bell and a pomegranate, a golden bell and a pomegranate, upon the hem of the robe round about.

35 And it shall be upon Aaron to minister: and his sound shall be heard when he goeth in unto the holy place before the Lord, and when he cometh out, that he die not.

Aarons instructions were to go into the holy of holies and be properly prepared as he went into make sacrifice for the sins of the people. God was so specific in the preparation that a bell was placed on the bottom of his robe to ensure that the people knew he was still alive in there because he had approached the throne of the most high God in the proper manner.

Today, people are so non chalant when they come into the presence of the Lord. Many do not take the time to prepare themselves through repentance so that they have clean hands and heart as they enter His presence.

Lord help us to take the availability to feel His presence everyday seriously that we are cautious to not offend Him in any manner by our actions or words.

  11. ““In this way, Aaron will carry the names of the tribes of Israel on the sacred chestpiece over his heart when he goes into the Holy Place. This will be a continual reminder that he represents the people when he comes before the LORD.”
    ‭‭Exodus‬ ‭28:29‬ ‭NLT‬‬

It’s not about Aaron it’s about the people…. It’s not about me it’s about the Kingdom.

  12. 43 And they shall be upon Aaron, and upon his sons, when they come in unto the tabernacle of the congregation, or when they come near unto the altar to minister in the holy place; that they bear not iniquity, and die: it shall be a statute for ever unto him and his seed after him.

Back then the only people that could approach God was the priest and they could only go so far and then the high priest could go further! I’m grateful to Jesus that we are able to go into the holies of holies and give our praise and our thanks and petitions OURSELVES, we don’t have to have anyone to go in our place, we can stand in the gap for others, we can intercede for others, and its all because OF JESUS. He is truly my hearts desire everyday I just want more and more, I don’t ever want to take this privilege for granted to be able to be in the presence of God. GOD IS GREAT AND GREATLY TO BE PRAISED!!!

  13. 2 Make sacred garments for Aaron that are glorious and beautiful. 3 Instruct all the skilled craftsmen whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom. Have them make garments for Aaron that will distinguish him as a priest set apart for my service.

The verse tells us how to dress. God wants us to distinguish ourselves from the world. We should dress and give a holy appearance to others. The first thing someone notices about you, is your dress and appearance. Our appearance goes a long way about who we are!

  14. The clothes of the priest.

Wow. As I was reading this the thought came that minus instruments. That the garments sound a lot like what lucifer looked like. But then I thought it’s a sign of perfection. And the attitude to keep one self clean. The priest-Pastor has a high calling on his life that requires him to say to the cleaness that is expected. Not just from God but from man. When you hear the word pastor we tend to think of someone in a higher authority that presents themselves with excellence. I just want to say thank you Jesus for Pastor Watts who does his best to stay clean and walks the walk and talks the talk that is genuine.

  15. 4 And these are the garments which they shall make; a breastplate, and an ephod, and a robe, and a broidered coat, a mitre, and a girdle: and they shall make holy garments for Aaron thy brother, and his sons, that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office.

Holy Garments for the Lord that is how we are suppose to be wearing when we go to church and outside of church. Making an impact in this world, showing that we are not the same as the world. Being a substitute many kids have noticed that I don’t wear make up, earnings, and only pants. They know that there is something different about me. Many people might think I am to exaggerated and shouldn’t do everything that the bible says but I don’t want to go to hell. There is a reason why we do what we do, because it is a command and it’s best to obey. This world brings nothing good so no matter what the people may say I know I have the Victory and that I’m a child of God!!!!!

  16. 41 And thou shalt put them upon Aaron thy brother, and his sons with him; and shalt anoint them, and consecrate them, and sanctify them, that they may minister unto me in the priest’s office.

Thank you Jesus for blessing us with an annointed man of God I’m thankful for my Pastor and his wife.

  17. 38 And it shall be upon Aaron’s forehead, that Aaron may bear the iniquity of the holy things, which the children of Israel shall hallow in all their holy gifts; and it shall be always upon his forehead, that they may be accepted before the Lord.

  18. “And thou shalt put in the breastplate of judgment the Urim and the Thummim; and they shall be upon Aaron’s heart, when he goeth in before the Lord: and Aaron shall bear the judgment of the children of Israel upon his heart before the Lord continually.”
    ‭‭Exodus‬ ‭28:30‬ ‭KJV‬‬

  19. 41 And thou shalt put them upon Aaron thy brother, and his sons with him; and shalt anoint them, and consecrate them, and sanctify them, that they may minister unto me in the priest’s office.

  20. 30 And thou shalt put in the breastplate of judgment the Urim and the Thummim; and they shall be upon Aaron’s heart, when he goeth in before the Lord: and Aaron shall bear the judgment of the children of Israel upon his heart before the Lord continually.

The judgement of the children of Israel was bore by Aaron the priest. Today our pastor bears the weight of the flock Jesus has given him. God called men are accountable for the souls following them. It isn’t an easy burden to bear. To choose to put oneself into this position without being called of God is asking for a heavy burden one may not be called to bear. Forcing a position can also cause blood on ones hands that will be there until judgement.

  21. When we put on the things that are pleasing unto the Lord, we stand out. As Christians we should want to look different then what the world has to offer. Holiness should shine feom us on a daily basis.

  22. Exodus 28:29

29 “In this way, Aaron will carry the names of the tribes of Israel on the sacred chestpiece over his heart when he goes into the Holy Place. This will be a continual reminder that he represents the people when he comes before the Lord.

We are priests of God today. He had made us kings and priests. We have the privilege to worship, sacrifice, and come before his presence.

I believe we also carry a chest piece spiritually when we go before him. It’s not about us. We represent people, and have a great opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others.

  23. v41 And thou shalt put them upon Aaron tgy brother, and his sons with him; and shalt anoint them, and consecrate them, and sanctify them, that they may minister unto me in the priest’s office.

” As every man hath received the gift, even soi minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God”
    1 Peter 4:10

Wherever we serve in the body of JESUS CHRIST, let us gladly serve as HIS ministers to the needs of others.

  24. 42 And thou shalt make them linen breeches to cover their nakedness; from the loins even unto the thighs they shall reach:

Men need to wear pants… Sayler

God told them to make breeches for them… Linda

It would be awesome to have some make me custom clothes… Anna

Even here we are being taught about the link between holiness and being properly covered. Although there are many rabid dogs dressed like apostolics, their livestyles show their true colors in a very short amount of time…. Kevin/ Olivia

  25. Wisdom

3 And thou shalt speak unto all that are wise hearted, whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron’s garments to consecrate him, that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office.

    • Proverbs 9

9 Give [instruction] to a wise [man], and he will be yet wiser: teach a just [man], and he will increase in learning.

Wisdom is listening to instruction and being submitted to the voice of wisdom.

  26. “And thou shalt speak unto all that are wise hearted, whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron’s garments to consecrate him, that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office.” The word of God (Jesus) said that Jesus (God) gave the wisdom. One would be very unwise to ever lose sight of whom gives wisdom. Equally one would be very unwise too not make ones God given talents available. Dear God, help us (me) grow in you, more than self; Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done”. “In God we trust”. “One Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all”. What a mighty God we serve! Thank God for his word. God bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  27. ““Get your brother Aaron and his sons from among the Israelites to serve me as priests: Aaron and his sons Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, Ithamar. Make sacred vestments for your brother Aaron to symbolize glory and beauty. Consult with the skilled craftsmen, those whom I have gifted in this work, and arrange for them to make Aaron’s vestments, to set him apart as holy, to act as priest for me. These are the articles of clothing they are to make: Breastpiece, Ephod, robe, woven tunic, turban, sash. They are making holy vestments for your brother Aaron and his sons as they work as priests for me. They will need gold; blue, purple, and scarlet material; and fine linen.”
    ‭‭Exodus‬ ‭28:1-5‬ ‭MSG‬‬
    http://bible.com/97/exo.28.1-5.msg

A man doing Gods work not only acts the part, but looks it as well.

  28. The covering for the priests all had purpose. The stone on the shoulder, covering them everywhere, the noise at the bottom. All of the garment had purpose. We should examine how we approach the Lord. If it was important to have specifics then, we still need to be concerned now. Coverings that are holy. Ones that are specifically for his glory. Carrying our testimonies. Having sound to ensure people know when we enter and exit the presence of God.

  29. 1 And take thou unto thee Aaron thy brother, and his sons with him, from among the children of Israel, that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office, even Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron’s sons.

The Lord picked Aron and his sons to serve him. Lord use me to serve you as your will be done.

  30. The priest’s office is mentioned 3 times in this chapter to Aaron and his sons. It’s a place of position and service to minister to the Lord. Later Paul identifes who the perfect high priest is in Heb 5:6 recalling Ps 110:4 “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.” The priesthood and ministry he was placing in the hands of Aaron and his sons was to be passed down for many generations to the coming of Christ Jesus. Like Aaron ministry takes answering the call from God, and serving. With serving comes instructions like the intricate ephod, breastpiece, and other priestly garments to be assembled.
