Numbers 8

1 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

2 Speak unto Aaron and say unto him, When thou lightest the lamps, the seven lamps shall give light over against the candlestick.

3 And Aaron did so; he lighted the lamps thereof over against the candlestick, as the Lord commanded Moses.

4 And this work of the candlestick was of beaten gold, unto the shaft thereof, unto the flowers thereof, was beaten work: according unto the pattern which the Lord had shewed Moses, so he made the candlestick.

5 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

6 Take the Levites from among the children of Israel, and cleanse them.

7 And thus shalt thou do unto them, to cleanse them: Sprinkle water of purifying upon them, and let them shave all their flesh, and let them wash their clothes, and so make themselves clean.

8 Then let them take a young bullock with his meat offering, even fine flour mingled with oil, and another young bullock shalt thou take for a sin offering.

9 And thou shalt bring the Levites before the tabernacle of the congregation: and thou shalt gather the whole assembly of the children of Israel together:

10 And thou shalt bring the Levites before the Lord: and the children of Israel shall put their hands upon the Levites:

11 And Aaron shall offer the Levites before the Lord for an offering of the children of Israel, that they may execute the service of the Lord.

12 And the Levites shall lay their hands upon the heads of the bullocks: and thou shalt offer the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering, unto the Lord, to make an atonement for the Levites.

13 And thou shalt set the Levites before Aaron, and before his sons, and offer them for an offering unto the Lord.

14 Thus shalt thou separate the Levites from among the children of Israel: and the Levites shall be mine.

15 And after that shall the Levites go in to do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation: and thou shalt cleanse them, and offer them for an offering.

16 For they are wholly given unto me from among the children of Israel; instead of such as open every womb, even instead of the firstborn of all the children of Israel, have I taken them unto me.

17 For all the firstborn of the children of Israel are mine, both man and beast: on the day that I smote every firstborn in the land of Egypt I sanctified them for myself.

18 And I have taken the Levites for all the firstborn of the children of Israel.

19 And I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and to his sons from among the children of Israel, to do the service of the children of Israel in the tabernacle of the congregation, and to make an atonement for the children of Israel: that there be no plague among the children of Israel, when the children of Israel come nigh unto the sanctuary.

20 And Moses, and Aaron, and all the congregation of the children of Israel, did to the Levites according unto all that the Lord commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so did the children of Israel unto them.

21 And the Levites were purified, and they washed their clothes; and Aaron offered them as an offering before the Lord; and Aaron made an atonement for them to cleanse them.

22 And after that went the Levites in to do their service in the tabernacle of the congregation before Aaron, and before his sons: as the Lord had commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so did they unto them.

23 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

24 This is it that belongeth unto the Levites: from twenty and five years old and upward they shall go in to wait upon the service of the tabernacle of the congregation:

25 And from the age of fifty years they shall cease waiting upon the service thereof, and shall serve no more:

26 But shall minister with their brethren in the tabernacle of the congregation, to keep the charge, and shall do no service. Thus shalt thou do unto the Levites touching their charge.

  1. Bless you Lord.
I hank the Lord for the people who served the Lord long time ago. To show me an example of how the true worship was ment to be unto the Lord.

  2. iLove to Grow in the Word

7 And thus shalt thou do unto them, to cleanse them: Sprinkle water of purifying upon them, and let them shave all their flesh, and let them wash their clothes, and so make themselves clean.

Water has always been used as an agent and as a symbol of getting or becoming clean. It amazes me how the different denominations of the world today emphasize that it’s not really important. If they would have taken that mentality into the Old Testament, there would be a new denomination called “The Crispy Critter Denomination.”

  3. Verses 1-4 MSG made me think of John 8:12 MSG “Jesus once again addressed them: “I am the world’s Light. No one who follows me stumbles around in the darkness. I provide plenty of light to live in”.

Verses 5-26 talks about the separation/purifying of the Levites. The end of verse 22 says ….”Only then did the Levites go to work at the Tent of Meeting…”. After being selected exclusively, after being set apart, and after being purified only then did they go to work. This answers the questions of those who wonder why we go through discipleship classes, etc. first. Every opportunity, every job, and every person has a place of importance in the kingdom of God.

  4. Serving the brethren.

26 But shall minister with their brethren in the tabernacle of the congregation, to keep the charge, and shall do no service. Thus shalt thou do unto the Levites touching their charge.

As it has been taught. Ministry is first serving others. I have seen with my own eyes “Ministers” who are just plan lazy. I pray for them. Because ministry is serving others. We are called to be ministers, to serve our fellow brothers and sisters.

  5. 20. And Moses, and Aaron, and all the congregation of the children of Israel, did to the Levites according unto all that the Lord commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so did the children of Israel unto them.

    21. And the Levites were purified, and they washed their clothes; and Aaron offered them as an offering before the Lord; and Aaron made an atonement for them to cleanse them.

    22. And after that went the Levites in to do their service in the tabernacle of the congregation before Aaron, and before his sons: as the Lord had commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so did they unto them.

If the Levites had not been submitted, obedient and willing, these verses would have a different ending.

  6. They trusted in the Lord. And they followed their leader/pastor. Obeing and going where tell s them to stay.

num.9.23.kjv At the commandment of the Lord they rested in the tents, and at the commandment of the Lord they journeyed: they kept the charge of the Lord , at the commandment of the Lord by the hand of Moses.

  7. Take the Levites from among the children of Israel, and cleanse them.

Thus shalt thou separate the Levites from among the children of Israel: and the Levites shall be mine.

For they are wholly given unto me from among the children of Israel; instead of such as open every womb, even instead of the firstborn of all the children of Israel, have I taken them unto me. (‭Numbers‬ ‭8‬:‭6, 14, 16‬ KJV)

    ‘We are His’ to serve!

  8. Numbers 8:2-3
“Speak unto Aaron, and say unto him, When thou lightest the lamps, the seven lamps shall give light over against the candlestick. And Aaron did so; he lighted the lamps thereof over against the candlestick, as the LORD commanded Moses.”

The Tabernacle had no windows, so the purpose of the lighting of the lamps was to give light in the darkness so they could see.
St. John 8:12 says, “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” JESUS is the light of the world. When we follow Him, He makes our pathway light so we can see, and we will not walk in darkness.
St. Matt. 5:14-16 says, “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” We too are a light for Jesus Christ. We need to let our light shine so that others may see and glorify God.

This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine, Let it shine, Let it shine, Let it shine.

  9. It’s important to be purified before the Lord. God wants to use a clean vessel. If sin dwells with us, we must cleanse ourselves so that God can use us. Our work for the kingdom is important. There is no job that’s too small to make a difference.

  10. Separate – Holy

To be set a side to His service, separate from this world . God made sure He had his very best, no stains, perfectin his image and in His ways. Clean and purified to His service alone. As our country deteriorates in moral issues all we can to is pray, pray for the salvation of so many souls would receive the truth of His gospel. Pray for our leaders, we can’t continue to live n denials of expecting righteous act from unrighteous leaders. It is time that we unite for the best of His Kingdom, our church, and Our Country.

  11. BE LIGHT

1 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying
2 Speak unto Aaron and say unto him, When thou lightest the lamps, the seven lamps shall give light over against the candlestick.
3 And Aaron did so; he lighted the lamps thereof over against the candlestick, as the Lord commanded Moses.
4 And this work of the candlestick was of beaten gold, unto the shaft thereof, unto the flowers thereof, was beaten work: according unto the pattern which the Lord had shewed Moses, so he made the candlestick.

The LORD was specific even about the light of HIS presence. The presentation was clearly outlined here. The design and position of the candlestick is important to GOD.

Notice the LORD said “when thou lightest the lamps” he did not say if the lamps light. GOD expects us to BE LIGHT.

Matthew 5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

Ephesians 5:8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

1Thessalonians 5:5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

BE LIGHT is the command given by the LORD, we are that candlestick of beaten gold. GOD is anticipating our light shining in and for this world to see HIS Love through us. We must choose to BE LIGHT for the Kingdom of GOD and not walk in darkness.

  12. Prov 13:1 Intelligent children listen to their parents; foolish children do their own thing.

I do not believe I was the perfect young person. However, I did listen to those whom I trusted. I may not have always liked what they had to say but understood they had my best interest as their motive. Maybe some young people want to be anything else but their parents. I did have not have these notions. There was no better role model than my father and grandfather. I wanted to be just like them – some people say that I am. I cannot comprehend the thought processes that declares words from those who love us are words to be ignored.

  13. 23 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying

We see many times in Leviticus where the Lord spake through Moses to His people. Just as it was then, God still uses a man of God to speak into our lives and give us direction. It is our own fault if we do not choose to listen his drection!

  14. Numbers 8:20 Moses Aaron in the whole Israelite community did with the Levites just as the LORD commanded Moses. The Levites purified themselves and wash your clothes. Then Aaron presented them as a wave offering before the Lord and madelete atonement for them ton purify them. After that the Levites came to do their work at the tent meeting under the supervision of Aaron and his sons. They did with the Levites just as the LORD commanded Moses. The Lord said to Moses this applies to the Levites men 25 years old or more shall come to take part in the work at the tent of meeting but at the age of 50 they must tetire from the regular service and work no longer. They may assist their brothers in performing their duties at the tent of meeting but they themselves must not do the work. This then is how you are to assist the responsibilities of the Levis.

  15. See we can be dirty and still do miracles but we must be cleansed to do the work of the lord see we can Do works but that don’t mean it’s of the lord , there is no job nor bigger or smaller that we can do that is smaller in gods eye

  16. The entire lampstand, from its base to its decorative blossoms, was made of beaten gold. It was built according to the exact design the Lord had shown Moses.

There is a desing and plan of God for each of us that in the end we can show forth the Light of Jesus and we can become instruments of use for him. We should not get discouraged of the journey and the beating we may take in life for we have no idea what beauty the Lord might be molding in us. Remember that Romans 8:28 says
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
    Romans 8:28 NKJV

Sometimes we don’t see what God sees but he can show the man of God in our lives that we may receive guidance and encouragements to continue. He is making something out of us.
For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome.

  18. 8-14
What does God do that the tribe that he clams as his . He gives them special work to do . Some view heaven as a place where the redeemed stand idle strumming harps. But through out the O.T. those who have been closest to God have been the. Most active . Heaven will be filled with work and worship . And those committed to work and worship experience a foretaste of Heaven now.
Wow what a scripture that backs up Pastors teacher and preaching that people in the.body of the church should have a JOB working and doing something at church.through out the verse God gives them work to do
The workers in the church have been the ones who ha e been the most active because they have Job’s.
WOW the last part of Vs 8 says heaven will be filled with workers and experience of HEAVEN now. WOW if anybody is reading this and doesn’t have a JOB at church this chapter Vs 8 should motivate you to get a JOB. PRAISE GOD.

  19. 25 And from the age of fifty years they shall cease waiting upon the service thereof, and shall serve no more:
26 But shall minister with their brethren in the tabernacle of the congregation, to keep the charge, and shall do no service. Thus shalt thou do unto the Levites touching their charge.

Such detail!!! The only way to fail is not to obey!!! Other than ourselves being in the way, there should be no hindrances to serve GOD!!!
After a certain age HE has something for them to do as well. Thank you JESUS for setting EVERYTHING and EVERYONE!!! NOTHING IS GOOD FROM YOU JESUS!!! YOU ARE GREAT AND MIGHTY!!!

  20. 1 Corinthians 2:4 And my message and my preaching were very plain. Rather than using clever and persuasive speeches, I relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit. (NLT)

I desire that no matter what I do, that Jesus light will shine through!

Numbers 8: 1 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, 2 Speak unto Aaron and say unto him, When thou lightest the lamps, the seven lamps shall give light over against the candlestick. 3 And Aaron did so; he lighted the lamps thereof over against the candlestick, as the Lord commanded Moses.

  21. 5 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

  22. 2“Give Aaron the following instructions: When you set up the seven lamps in the lampstand, place them so their light shines forward in front of the lampstand.” 3So Aaron did this. He set up the seven lamps so they reflected their light forward, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.

The light shines forward, the light shines our path to Jesus, and into the future. No lights shines behind us, cause God wants us to forget our past. God has forgiven us, be not bringing up the past again. So look forward to what God has plans for you!

  23. “For they are wholly given to Me from among the children of Israel; I have taken them for Myself instead of all who open the womb, the firstborn of all the children of Israel.”(Numbers‬ ‭8:16‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

It is difficult to determine whether the second clause is to be regarded as an exact equivalent, or as a limitation of the first. If an exact equivalent, a different meaning must be assigned to the firstborn from that which it commonly bears in the Pentateuch, where it appears to be restricted to the firstborn son on the father’s side.

  24. 6 Take the Levites from among the children of Israel, and cleanse them.

7 And thus shalt thou do unto them, to cleanse them: Sprinkle water of purifying upon them, and let them shave all their flesh, and let them wash their clothes, and so make themselves clean.

Cleanse them, wow. Now is the time for spiritual cleansing. We (I) have cleansed ourselves physically, but have we (I) cleansed ourselves spiritually. Yes forgiveness can be asked for, but are we (I) fully embracing that forgiveness and cleansing ourselves. Water represents that cleansing, cleaning ourselves physically is a sign that we (I) are showing that change that has been put upon us by our Lord and savior. We (I) come to the Lord as we are and then allow Jesus to make the change within us. That change will not happen unless we want it to happen. Cleanse yourself and be washed white as snow…….God bless…Amen!!!

  25. 15 And after that shall the Levites go in to do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation: and thou shalt cleanse them, and offer them for an offering.

Before doing any of the work in the Tabernacle, the Levites were prepared & cleansed for it. We’ve been taught we should repent before ever coming into the Lords house, so I believe that even while we are there working at the church we should prepare for being in the Lords presence -& just like preparing for a service-repent! Clear the pathway to hear the Lord speak to you even while you labor for him. Whether on Outreach, cleaning the church or decorating a classroom. Especially when in the classroom preparing for your lessons. The best time spent getting prepared for your children is to spend much of your ‘decorating’ time in prayer.

  26. Numbers 8:18
And I have taken the Leviticus for all the first born of the children of Israel

Have faith and grow with Jesus Amen

  27. Numbers 8:19 (KJV Strong’s)

Leadership is a gift and not a burden. Serving in the church is a blessing and helps the church and the people in it. Where would we be without the drivers who pick up the children every Sunday?

What would happen if we didn’t have a cleaning crew?

What would our music be like if we had no musicians?

How would the children learn without Sunday school teachers?

Everyone plays a very important role and that role is a gift, and a treasure to the kingdom of God.

Each of these ministries is a gift to the lost. So that they may receive the ultimate gift, the gift of salvation.

  28. But shall minister With their brethren in the tabernacle of the congregation to keep the charge and shall do no service. Thus shalt do unto the levites touching their charge.

  29. BeThus shalt thou separate the Levites from among the children of Israel: and the Levites shall be mine.
the Levites were blessed to be separated unto the Lord. To be set apart for the service in the work of the ministry of the tabernacle. Today God still desires to set his people apart the Bible says to come out from among them and be separate. God does not expect us to look like the world Be like the world Act like the world or be carnal in nature but he wants us to be holy and separated on to him.

  30. 22 And after that went the Levites in to do their service in the tabernacle of the congregation before Aaron, and before his sons: as the Lord had commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so did they unto them.

The Levites were chosen to serve in the tabernacle. We, the blood bought, holy ghost filled children of the Lord are from the Levitical lineage and we are called to serve in whatever capacity we can in the tabernacle.

We should have the mindset that whatever we see that needs to be done, do it so that everyone can enjoy coming to a place prepared for the presence of the Lord.

  31. 12 And the Levites shall lay their hands upon the heads of the bullocks: and thou shalt offer the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering, unto the Lord, to make an atonement for the Levites.

13 And thou shalt set the Levites before Aaron, and before his sons, and offer them for an offering unto the Lord.

14 Thus shalt thou separate the Levites from among the children of Israel: and the Levites shall be mine.

  32. 6 But shall minister with their brethren in the tabernacle of the congregation, to keep the charge, and shall do no service. Thus shalt thou do unto the Levites touching their charge.
Ministry and serving goes hand in hand, is not about being in the spot light, its about serving! Treat others the way you want to be treated!

  33. 19 And I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and to his sons from among the children of Israel, to do the service of the children of Israel in the tabernacle of the congregation, and to make an atonement for the children of Israel: that there be no plague among the children of Israel, when the children of Israel come nigh unto the sanctuary.

The Lord (Jesus) stated that their service made an atonement for the children of Israel.

24 This is it that belongeth unto the Levites: from twenty and five years old and upward they shall go in to wait upon the service of the tabernacle of the congregation: 25 And from the age of fifty years they shall cease waiting upon the service thereof, and shall serve no more.

The Lord also provided the age requirement for those that were required to serve. Dear God, help us (me) too see the blessings that come from serving, and also to be respectful of elders that continue to serve. May God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  34. God is setting up and setting apart here with the lamp stands and the Levites for they are to light the way. They are to get prepared. The lamp stand was hammered and beaten the Levites were water cleansed and shaven. Each to be used wholly of the Lord under full dedication. The Levites role will take the place of the first born from the plague of Egypt. When God struck the first born sons of Egypt he had already set them apart. The importance of the Levites is that they make atonment so that no plagues will strike them when they go near the sanctuary. We are adopted into the line of this priesthood of Levi. We are called to be set apart for the work of his kingdom. To shine like the lamp stands no matter how hard the hammering and beating may be, we endure the pressure to shine even brighter for His Glory!

  35. 14 Thus shalt thou separate the Levites from among the children of Israel: and the Levites shall be mine.

To be the chosen among the chosen

The Israelites are the chosen people of God. But Levites are the chosen among the chosen. What does this mean? This means that in the Kingdom of God, there are chosen people that called and separated to do a special work from among the people of God. The are called to the work of the ministry.

This group of people are called out from among the people. It is a great privilege to serve God at this capacity, I am struck with awe of what God has been doing, with my life, and I can but humble myself before God because it is only through His grace that I am able to stand. May people at out church be over taken by the desire be used by God unselfishly, no matter what personal sacrifices have to be made, to have the spirit of Samuel, “Here I am Lord”

  36. 11 And Aaron shall offer the Levites before the Lord for an offering of the children of Israel, that they may execute the service of the Lord.

15 And after that shall the Levites go in to do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation: and thou shalt cleanse them, and offer them for an offering.

The Lord identified items that were required between preparing and doing. It would be prudent to observe what is required, rather than simply doing. God help us to prepare first, elsewise it may not be according to your will.

  37. We are to allow the SPIRIT to renew our minds, and refrain from allowing the enemy s place in our lives.
Thankful for HIS cleansing blood !!!

  38. Treasure the elders

25 And from the age of fifty years they shall cease waiting upon the service thereof, and shall serve no more:

The respect for our elders was set by God from the beginning. We should respect and honor them. They have served us well. It is not that they cannot do what they once did anymore but rather their focus should be on teaching the ones behind them how to do it so that the knowledge and work doesn’t stop with them but increases grouch time. The most precious things can be learned from them. Let us value and serve our elders.

  39. 25 And from the age of fifty years they shall cease waiting upon the service thereof, and shall serve no more:

The Levites are used of God only, the Lord wants them placed with Aron and his sons when they reach 50 yrs of age. He retires them from working. This goes to show that God treats the elders with respect for them serving him. Thank you Lord for your love and your mercy.

  40. In Gen 34, Levi commits an atrocity that will get him cursed by his father. In Exodus 34 the Levites do not worship the golden calf. Now they are being consecrated for their priestly duties. Not bowing down to idols is the way to go.

  41. Beaten Gold

4 And this work of the candlestick was of beaten gold, unto the shaft thereof, unto the flowers thereof, was beaten work: according unto the pattern which the Lord had shewed Moses, so he made the candlestick.

The beaten work of the candlesticks was one not of solid gold but pure gold (another instance where our English translation can get us in trouble if we are not careful.) 1 Kings 6:23 eludes to the cherubims (of similar construction to the candlesticks) as being made of olive wood and then covered with beaten gold. Indeed, all references to beaten gold, or rather “goldbeating,” deal strictly with the practice of gold leafing. The gold is not beaten in order to right away receive its final shape but rather is beaten until it is extremely thin so it can be transferred to its final destination. The purpose of its thinness comes in that it is easier to work with and it can bend to fit a wide variety of shapes without being so thick that it masks the fine details of the object it is placed upon. Jesus is our olive wood who molds our life so that we become merely a visible representation of Him in this world.

The goldbeaters who were alive at such a time to see both the traditional methods as well as the new machine-based methods of goldbeating could note that hand-beaten gold was softer and had more “life” to it than the machine-processed pieces. God Himself used His hands and not simply His voice to form us in creation; it would only hold true that He continues to use His hands to mold us in our recreation after the new birth experience. He does not beat us into our form as cookie-cutter saints but touches each of us individually to bring out the desired result deliberately and sensitively to the unique qualities of each individual.

    Psalm 139:13-14 NLT
13 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.

14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.

    Ephesians 2:10
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

    Ephesians 4:11-15
    11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

    14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

  42. 16 For they are wholly given unto me from among the children of Israel; instead of such as open every womb, even instead of the firstborn of all the children of Israel, have I taken them unto me.

I pray that one day this can be said if me. That I was wholly without reserve given to God. I want to give him my all.

  43. “And thus shalt thou do unto them, to cleanse them: Sprinkle water of purifying upon them, and let them shave all their flesh, and let them wash their clothes, and so make themselves clean.”
    ‭‭Numbers‬ ‭8:7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

It is not what is on the outside hat defiles a man, but the outer display of a man often tells about the inner parts. We must present ourselves as we are the body of Christ. Clean, pure and holy so others will seek after him too.

  44. “The Lord spoke to Moses. He said, “Take the Levites from among the other men of Israel. Make them ‘clean’ in the usual way.”
    ‭‭Numbers‬ ‭8:5-6‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

So thankful to be part of the royal priesthood. Thankful for the water baptism the name being applied my life. Thank you Jesus for cleansing!
