Numbers 16

1 Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men:

2 And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown:

3 And they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said unto them, Ye take too much upon you, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the Lord is among them: wherefore then lift ye up yourselves above the congregation of the Lord?

4 And when Moses heard it, he fell upon his face:

5 And he spake unto Korah and unto all his company, saying, Even to morrow the Lord will shew who are his, and who is holy; and will cause him to come near unto him: even him whom he hath chosen will he cause to come near unto him.

6 This do; Take you censers, Korah, and all his company;

7 And put fire therein, and put incense in them before the Lord to morrow: and it shall be that the man whom the Lord doth choose, he shall be holy: ye take too much upon you, ye sons of Levi.

8 And Moses said unto Korah, Hear, I pray you, ye sons of Levi:

9 Seemeth it but a small thing unto you, that the God of Israel hath separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to himself to do the service of the tabernacle of the Lord, and to stand before the congregation to minister unto them?

10 And he hath brought thee near to him, and all thy brethren the sons of Levi with thee: and seek ye the priesthood also?

11 For which cause both thou and all thy company are gathered together against the Lord: and what is Aaron, that ye murmur against him?

12 And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab: which said, We will not come up:

13 Is it a small thing that thou hast brought us up out of a land that floweth with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, except thou make thyself altogether a prince over us?

14 Moreover thou hast not brought us into a land that floweth with milk and honey, or given us inheritance of fields and vineyards: wilt thou put out the eyes of these men? we will not come up.

15 And Moses was very wroth, and said unto the Lord, Respect not thou their offering: I have not taken one ass from them, neither have I hurt one of them.

16 And Moses said unto Korah, Be thou and all thy company before the Lord, thou, and they, and Aaron, to morrow:

17 And take every man his censer, and put incense in them, and bring ye before the Lord every man his censer, two hundred and fifty censers; thou also, and Aaron, each of you his censer.

18 And they took every man his censer, and put fire in them, and laid incense thereon, and stood in the door of the tabernacle of the congregation with Moses and Aaron.

19 And Korah gathered all the congregation against them unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the glory of the Lord appeared unto all the congregation.

20 And the Lord spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,

21 Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment.

22 And they fell upon their faces, and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and wilt thou be wroth with all the congregation?

23 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

24 Speak unto the congregation, saying, Get you up from about the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.

25 And Moses rose up and went unto Dathan and Abiram; and the elders of Israel followed him.

26 And he spake unto the congregation, saying, Depart, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of their’s, lest ye be consumed in all their sins.

27 So they gat up from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side: and Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood in the door of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their little children.

28 And Moses said, Hereby ye shall know that the Lord hath sent me to do all these works; for I have not done them of mine own mind.

29 If these men die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men; then the Lord hath not sent me.

30 But if the Lord make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain unto them, and they go down quick into the pit; then ye shall understand that these men have provoked the Lord.

31 And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them:

32 And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods.

33 They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation.

34 And all Israel that were round about them fled at the cry of them: for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up also.

35 And there came out a fire from the Lord, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense.

36 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

37 Speak unto Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, that he take up the censers out of the burning, and scatter thou the fire yonder; for they are hallowed.

38 The censers of these sinners against their own souls, let them make them broad plates for a covering of the altar: for they offered them before the Lord, therefore they are hallowed: and they shall be a sign unto the children of Israel.

39 And Eleazar the priest took the brasen censers, wherewith they that were burnt had offered; and they were made broad plates for a covering of the altar:

40 To be a memorial unto the children of Israel, that no stranger, which is not of the seed of Aaron, come near to offer incense before the Lord; that he be not as Korah, and as his company: as the Lord said to him by the hand of Moses.

41 But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye have killed the people of the Lord.

42 And it came to pass, when the congregation was gathered against Moses and against Aaron, that they looked toward the tabernacle of the congregation: and, behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the Lord appeared.

43 And Moses and Aaron came before the tabernacle of the congregation.

44 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

45 Get you up from among this congregation, that I may consume them as in a moment. And they fell upon their faces.

46 And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on incense, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make an atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from the Lord; the plague is begun.

47 And Aaron took as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the congregation; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people: and he put on incense, and made an atonement for the people.

48 And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed.

49 Now they that died in the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, beside them that died about the matter of Korah.

50 And Aaron returned unto Moses unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the plague was stayed.

  1. 31. And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them:

    32. And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods.

    33. They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation.

    41. But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye have killed the people of the Lord .

Just a FYI in case you are wondering: if the ground opens up and swallows someone you know that spoke against the man of God, along with everything they owned and everyone that agreed with them, then closes back up as if they never existed…it wasn’t men that killed them!

  2. 3They united against Moses and Aaron and said, “You have gone too far! The whole community of Israel has been set apart by the LORD, and he is with all of us. What right do you have to act as though you are greater than the rest of the LORD’s people?

This a great example of division. A few started gossiping and murmuring against Moses, and it spread until several hundred believed them. Even though they had a ministry position they wanted more. Korah accused Moses of wanting to be a king or something. Along Korah wanted to be a leader and have followers behind him. We only need to have one leader and recognize who that person is, a man of God!

  3. 31-33 The words were hardly out of his mouth when the Earth split open. Earth opened its mouth and in one gulp swallowed them down, the men and their families, all the human beings connected with Korah, along with everything they owned. And that was the end of them, pitched alive into Sheol. The Earth closed up over them and that was the last the community heard of them. MSG

KJV

Be careful with rebellion. It could very well trail down from you to your children.

  4. iLove to Grow in the Word

2 And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown:

It really doesnt matter how talented and gifted and strong and anointed we are, God is a God of order. Korah was truly deceived into thinking that all offices in the Kingdom were equal. This is the same spirit that is in the church today. Many talented young men and women decide they are equal to the man of God and that they can do better than the man of God. Korah actually thought that God Almighty would choose him over Moses. Remember, Moses stuttered and was not elegant in speech. This reminder of the weakness of Moses had to continually be in the ears of those around him.

No matter what weaknesses we see in the man of God and no matter how much better we “think” we are at doing certain tasks, we must never challenge the man of God in such a foolish manner as Korah did. The Lord will have the last word.

  5. It is funny yo certain people just so and watch and not help and in the moment that something goes wrong you can hear them say” I would of done it this way instead, or I do t know why they put him I charge I have more knowledge and experience” etc, etc. The plague of the would of, could of, should of!! When it comes to leadership there is more responsibility than honor, but those that don’t see all the work that goes into it, and only focus on the honor given always will be jealous. It is the duty of a congregation to lift their leaders in prayer for they work double what we do and are criticized more than us, their heart gets broken more than ours. There should be nothing negative coming out of our mouth for a negative report is an evil report. I wonder what would happen in ou church if God were to take the same action and destroy by fire all those that oppose the leadership. It is time to search our heart and if we were to find anything repent immediately for the Lord our God is One and is the same yesterday, today, and always. Help us Lord to see all things that our leaders put into work, help us get a servants heart and help hand in hand only then we will realize that all they do is for our best in Jesus Name Amen

  6. 41 But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye have killed the people of the Lord.

Truly this people is a rebellious and stiffnecked people who just don’t get it that God is the Almighty and he is the power and authority of all. Right after Korah and his company are swallowed us, the ENTIRE congregation come up before Moses and complained! God continues to pour out judgement to teach by example because there is a younger generation watching who will inherit the promise land. The young need to learn to obey and trust God where the older generation just cannot be taught. I want to stay teachable!

  7. LESSONS HARD TO LEARN

Frustration is tantalizing, How we respond when GOD does not answer to us affects our eternity. The blame game is the most popular game played by humanity. We witness here the children of Israel can only see what they are facing, they refuse to see the future that GOD has established.

These men accused the man of GOD, after seeing what happened to Miriam. This lesson seems to be one of the LESSONS HARD TO LEARN. Speaking against leadership is so dangerous. We are wise to consider our words before we speak them.

GOD isolated them and judged them. We must be very careful in judging the matters. affairs and life of our Leadership.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  8. 47 And Aaron took as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the congregation; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people: and he put on incense, and made an atonement for the people.

We need a man with f God to stand in the gap. Thank you Jesus for my man of God Pastor Watts. He is someone who will tell you when you are doing wrong. And will love you in tone of need. Thank you Jesus for the man of God you have put in my life.

  9. Numbers 16:7

7 Light fires in them tomorrow, and burn incense before the Lord. Then we will see whom the Lord chooses as his holy one. You Levites are the ones who have gone too far!”

The Lord knows who are his based on the fire they burn. Aaron burned the incense the Lord’s way. Korah Dathan Abiram and the other 250 did it their own way.

The fire can only come from the altar. Any fire that comes without the altar is a false fire.

  10. 1) Don’t speak against Pastor.
    2) Don’t rise up against Pastor.
    3) Be thankful that Pastor warns us to get away from people that are not good for us to be around and could cause us to loose out with God.
    4) Be thankful for a Pastor who prayers and intercedes to God on our behalf.
    5) Be thankful for a Pastor who stands in the gap for us.

Thank You JESUS for our Pastor! Thank You for the One You have Chosen to place over us and lead us.
We Love You Pastor and Sister Watts. We are praying for you.

  11. Do not speak against the man of God in your life, God put him in your life to correct you and to help keep you on the right path. We need to daily pray, and thank God for the man of God in our life!!

  12. Giulty by association

““Quick!” he told the people. “Get away from the tents of these wicked men, and don’t touch anything that belongs to them. If you do, you will be destroyed for their sins.””
    ‭‭Numbers‬ ‭16:26‬ ‭NLT‬‬

    As this song proclaims:
Be careful little eyes what you see
It’s the second glance that ties your hands as darkness pulls the strings
Be careful little feet where you go
For it’s the little feet behind you that are sure to follow

  13. 26 And he spake unto the congregation, saying, Depart, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of their’s, lest ye be consumed in all their sins.

We need to be careful not to be near the tents of men that trying to stir the pots of revolt and rebellion. So if we see their actions and do nothing, we will be caught up with them and their rebellious acts. We will be warned to stay away from them from some man of God in our lives. But if we don’t listen, when the ground goes to swallow them up, we will get swallowed up with them.

  15. Be careful who you follow

    5) then he said to Korah and his followers tomorrow morning to him and who is holy the lord will allow only those whom he selects to enter his own presence 6) Korah you and all your followers must prepare your incense burners
    16) and Moses said to Korah you and all you followers must come here tomorrow and present yourselfs before the Lord Aaron will also be here

I remember when I was in middle school I remember how I want to be like so i started following the worng group the group I was hanging out we would always get trouble. I find my self no were
As I being to get more involve in church my friends starts to leave and go there way it was 2013 when I realize that I didn’t want to be follow but I want to Be a leader it was then when I started p:7 bible club in my school . I prayed that I continue to lead my family in the right way one day My family Wil come home until then i will continue to pray until it happened

What I am saying is be careful who you follow because the might get you in a whole lot of trouble

  16. “And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed.” The word of God (Jesus) was very clear on how God felt. One that believes they should have been the chosen one, and is careless enough to voice it; would be very wise to stay within running distance, of the one chosen by God (Judge). Dear God, bless and protect your chosen man of God. May God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  17. “And he spake unto the congregation, saying, Depart, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of their’s, lest ye be consumed in all their sins.” They were warned not to take or touch anything. What may appear to be valuable and even harmless, may just be connected too something that could be very costly. God help us too see as you see so that we do not become consumed, in Jesus name.

  18. 31 And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them:

32 And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods.

33 They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation.

1Samuel 15 for rebellion is as the sin as witchcraft , and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. We may feel like we accomplish much spiritually and were so holy and righteous because we don’t commit some major sin’s. If we rebellion in our minds we feel like oh it not that bad. Sin is Sin! God help me and my family to make sure we are always making the right choices. We have kids and they are always watching. Your decesions won’t just affect you but it affect those around you too.

  19. 46 And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on incense, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make an atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from the Lord; the plague is begun.

  20. Verses 47-48 MSG “Aaron grabbed the censer, as directed by Moses, and ran into the midst of the congregation. The plague had already begun. He put burning incense into the censer and atoned for the people. He stood there between the living and the dead and stopped the plague.” Matthew 5:44 NKJV says “But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,[a]…”.

  21. 46 And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on incense, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make an atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from the Lord; the plague is begun.

Only a man of God that is truly a man of God would have a good enough relationship to know what was coming and what to do about it. We are so blessed to have such a great man of God leading us here at the POFW.

  22. The chosen

It should not be taken lightly that we have been chosen to do the work of the Lord. We abide in places that some never see or even know about. The glory of the Lord is upon us time and time again. We cannot take that for granted. Let us not grow numb to our blessing and weary in our position. Let us treasure our position with the Lord and make the most of it!

  23. 20 And the Lord spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,

21 Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment.

22 And they fell upon their faces, and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and wilt thou be wroth with all the congregation?

  24. I wonder how many times our actions and words have gone up to God against our leadership. We take so lightly speaking about our leaders not realizing that God can hear us.

Even when we speak in our hearts like Sarah, nothing escapes my God. Let us do the opposite, bless our leaders, ask God for them to have wisdom and a heart that seeks after God.

  25. Moses stood in the gap for the ignorant people. For all you know your pastor may be standing in the gap for you. We should honor his direction. God will be the one to punish those who go against Him.

  26. 38 The censers of these sinners against their own souls, let them make them broad plates for a covering of the altar: for they offered them before the Lord, therefore they are hallowed: and they shall be a sign unto the children of Israel.

I remember when I wasn’t saved. I would have been one of the children that was destroyed as an example. GOD is a mighty and jealous GOD. He doesn’t play around with his children. I know that there was a time where I didn’t care what happened to me. GOD cared, but I didn’t. Since I started coming to POFW I’ve learned a lot about myself and what GOD has planned for me. I couldn’t be happier that I was brought out of the wilderness. To the glory of GOD my soul has been released from the chains, yokes have been removed. I know that I will not die according to man. The children of Israel had to learn a very hard lesson about who they were in GOD’S eyes. That is a lesson that I had to learn. Yes it was a hard lesson, but well worth what I went through. Our GOD is an awesome and loving GOD. Glory be to Jesus……God bless…Amen!!!

  27. It sees the people never learned not to speak against the man of God, yet he continued to plead to God to have mercy on them.

  28. 9 Seemeth it but a small thing unto you, that the God of Israel hath separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to himself to do the service of the tabernacle of the Lord, and to stand before the congregation to minister unto them?

Don’t take the ministry, gifting and talents that God has placed upon you for granted. We are called, chosen and separated to be a holy nation unto the Lord. He continually seeks for a willing vessel, and if we become cocky, arrogant or prideful, we can loose the holy ministry that has been bestowed upon us.

  29. In the last few chapters we have seen the enemies tactic to bring division from the priesthood to the man of God and now the ministry against the priesthood and the man of God. In a congregation everyone talks and sees what is going on.Children are the same way they see everything that goes on between adults and grow up learning from their example and influence in their lives. The Korahites are murmuring, and back biting to get ahead. They’ve seen the discipline given to Miriam for speaking against the man of God yet they continue in disunity. God is a God of order and we cannot function as a body and get to the place He is taking us to out of order.

  30. “But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye have killed the people of the Lord. And it came to pass, when the congregation was gathered against Moses and against Aaron, that they looked toward the tabernacle of the congregation: and, behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the Lord appeared. And Moses and Aaron came before the tabernacle of the congregation.

Get you up from among this congregation, that I may consume them as in a moment. And they fell upon their faces. And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on incense, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make an atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from the Lord; the plague is begun.”
    ‭‭Numbers‬ ‭16:41-43, 45-46‬ ‭KJV‬‬
    http://bible.com/1/num.16.41-43,45-46.kjv

Time and time we see where the Lord stands. If you are going against the man of God and complain and argue murmur you are pretty much going against God’s commands.

  31. Number 16:39 SoEleazzar the priest collected the bronze censors brought by those who had been burnt to death and he had made them hammered out to overlay the altar. As the Lord directed him through Moses. This was to remind is Israelites that no one except a descendant of Aaron should come to burn incense before the Lord or he would become likeKorah and his followers. The next day the whole Israelite community grumbled against Moses and Aaron. You have killed the Lord’s people they said. But when the assembly gathered in opposition to Moses and Aaron and turn towards the tent meeting suddenly the cloud covered it and the glory of the Lord apoeared. Then Moses and Aaron went to the front of the tent of meeting and the Lord said to Moses get away from this assembly so I can put an end to them at once and they fell face down.

God used the censers with fire and incense in this test for a good reason. A censers is a metal pot used in the priestly worship of God. Since Koran and his companions questioned Moses and Aaron’s right to lead the nation and conduct the priesthood each group would come to the Lord as worshipping priest and God would show which group he accepted.

  32. 46 And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on incense, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make an atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from the Lord; the plague is begun.

Moses was interceding for the people so they would be forgiven because God was destroying the sinners. God knows the intention of the heart, he ultimately takes action instantly or can be slow at anger.

  33. Stumblingblock

Numbers 16:15 Then Moses became very angry and said to the Lord, “Do not accept their grain offerings! I have not taken so much as a donkey from them, and I have never hurt a single one of them.”

What Korah and the others who rose up against Moses did was wrong, however in the middle of this Moses reveals and important leadership quality. His accusers were wrong, and not only that but they came to him with the wrong attitude and through the wrong means, but Moses still stopped to examine himself. But it didn’t stop there. Moses examined himself and was prepared to take responsibility if he had offended any of them and as such set a stumblingblock before any of them that could have provoked them to think and act in that way.

    Proverbs 18:19 AMP
A brother offended is harder to win over than a fortified city, And contentions [separating families] are like the bars of a castle.

    Romans 14:21-22 NLT
21 It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or do anything else if it might cause another believer to stumble.

22 You may believe there’s nothing wrong with what you are doing, but keep it between yourself and God. Blessed are those who don’t feel guilty for doing something they have decided is right.

If we teach His Word yet are acting in ways not supported by scripture and it causes another believer to fall into sin through our lifestyle leading them astray, we have set a stumblingblock before them. If we abuse our liberty to undermine the faith and convictions of another, we also set a stumblingblock before them. God will position spiritual leaders between Himself and other believers so that those leaders are able to effectively lead them to Him, but when we get between God and others in our flesh, we cause death rather than life and would place a stumblingblock before those who should have instead received our help.

    Matthew 18:6 AMP
but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble and sin [by leading him away from My teaching], it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone [as large as one turned by a donkey] hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.

Taking from Matthew 18:6 AMP and Moses’ statement about not so much as taking a donkey from any of those rising up against him, if we do take away a believer’s “donkey” (putting a stumblingblock before them,) it would be better for us take the donkey’s place in bearing the millstone it once turned in service of that believer than what God’s judgement for us would be. We must be willing to correct ourselves and be humble and repent if we find ourselves causing others to stumble. The idea of putting a millstone around our neck and casting ourselves into the sea is not just about “putting ourselves under water with no way to get back up for oxygen;” the sea is deep and the weight of a millstone would cause us to sink very, very quickly, which means that the sheer pressure of the water may very well crush us to death before we ran out of oxygen. When we have caused another to sin, it is not our place to get puffed up and tell them they aren’t allowed to list our sins, we are supposed to allow ourselves to be crushed and be humbled before the reality of our actions so that we die to self. This is far better than if we puff ourselves up, shift back blame to the one we led astray, and just wait for God to deal with us.

    James 4:7-10
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
