Numbers 17

1 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and take of every one of them a rod according to the house of their fathers, of all their princes according to the house of their fathers twelve rods: write thou every man’s name upon his rod.

3 And thou shalt write Aaron’s name upon the rod of Levi: for one rod shall be for the head of the house of their fathers.

4 And thou shalt lay them up in the tabernacle of the congregation before the testimony, where I will meet with you.

5 And it shall come to pass, that the man’s rod, whom I shall choose, shall blossom: and I will make to cease from me the murmurings of the children of Israel, whereby they murmur against you.

6 And Moses spake unto the children of Israel, and every one of their princes gave him a rod apiece, for each prince one, according to their fathers’ houses, even twelve rods: and the rod of Aaron was among their rods.

7 And Moses laid up the rods before the Lord in the tabernacle of witness.

8 And it came to pass, that on the morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds.

9 And Moses brought out all the rods from before the Lord unto all the children of Israel: and they looked, and took every man his rod.

10 And the Lord said unto Moses, Bring Aaron’s rod again before the testimony, to be kept for a token against the rebels; and thou shalt quite take away their murmurings from me, that they die not.

11 And Moses did so: as the Lord commanded him, so did he.

12 And the children of Israel spake unto Moses, saying, Behold, we die, we perish, we all perish.

13 Whosoever cometh any thing near unto the tabernacle of the Lord shall die: shall we be consumed with dying?

  1. “Then the people of Israel said to Moses, “Look, we are doomed! We are dead! We are ruined! Everyone who even comes close to the Tabernacle of the LORD dies. Are we all doomed to die?””
    ‭‭Numbers‬ ‭17:12-13‬ ‭NLT‬‬

God never intended on people dying or even making people fearful of dying by this simple act of obedience. God intended on saving lives. It’s amazing the way that God gives messages to preach. Sometimes it feels like a message should go a certain direction but the majority of the congregation takes it and runs another direction with it.

As people of God, we must determine notto read too much into things. Everything in this world is not a conspiracy.

  2. 5. I will use these rods to identify the man I have chosen: for buds will grow on his rod! Then at last this murmuring and complaining against you will stop!” TLB

    Don’t shoot the messenger…

They had to learn that when they had a problem with a message from God, the problem wasn’t with the man who brought them the message, but with themselve

  3. 5 And it shall come to pass, that the man’s rod, whom I shall choose, shall blossom: and I will make to cease from me the murmurings of the children of Israel, whereby they murmur against you.

When people complain against ypu and throw negative things into your life, that’s when God will make things blossom into your life.

  4. Numbers 17:8, “And it came to pass, that on the morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blooms, and yielded almonds.”

What a miracle of life, that God took a dead stick and caused it to bud, bloom, and yield fruit (almonds).

Spiritually speaking, God has done the same thing for us. He has taken us, who were dead in our sins, and has made us alive in Christ. (Eph. 2:5). He has caused us to GROW. Bud, Blossom, and Yield Fruit.

Thank You JESUS that we are Alive in You!

  5. “The next day Moses entered the tent. He looked at Aaron’s staff. It stood for the tribe of Levi. Moses saw that it had not only begun to grow new shoots. It had also produced buds and flowers and almonds.”
    ‭‭Numbers‬ ‭17:8‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

This chapter has really encouraged me to think that God can take ANY impossible situation and make it grow and prosper. There’s nothing impossible for God. Nothing too big nothing too small and insignificant. Our God looks at every detail. Our God is Awesome.

  6. “Everyone who even comes close to the Tabernacle of the LORD dies. Are we all doomed to die?””
    ‭‭Numbers‬ ‭17:13‬ ‭NLT‬‬

  7. 8 And it came to pass, that on the morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds.
once again God is trying to prove his miracle working power to the Israelites. he is trying to show them that he is almighty and all powerful and he’s also trying to silence the doubters and those who continue to murmur and complain. It is sad that after all God has already done for the Israelites that they needed more and more signs and still yet this would not be enough. God is already done enough for each of us to prove his love is Grace and his power let us not murmur and complain but let us believe and have faith in an omnipotent God.

  8. Do sparrows worry?

As Bro Morgan taught us this weekend, sparrows do not soar with eagles. They do not spend their time storing food for the winter. God is with them; just as Bro Crocket taught. Does a sparrow worry? I believe not. What a great tag team of messages from two great men of God!!

    Hebrews 13:5
Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you.

    Matthew 10:29-31
Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows.

We all have to admit that worry is a common temptation in life—for many it is a favorite pastime. When we worry, we believe God can redeem us, break the shackles of Satan, save us from hell, take us to Heaven, and give us eternal life; but just don’t think He can get us through the next couple of days. That is pretty ridiculous, isn’t it? How is it we can believe God for the greater works and then stumble and not believe Him for the easy stuff? Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today, yes and forever. That means He will be doing the same thing tomorrow that He was doing yesterday. If you have any question about the tomorrow, look at the past. Did He sustain you then? Don’t worry—He will sustain you in the future as well.

  9. 5 Buds will sprout on the staff belonging to the man I choose. Then I will finally put an end to the people’s murmuring and complaining against you.”

8 When he went into the Tabernacle of the Covenant the next day, he found that Aaron’s staff, representing the tribe of Levi, had sprouted, budded, blossomed, and produced ripe almonds! (NLT)

When we are chosen by God, we too will bear fruit. Some have started withering because we have stopped watering our fruit with His Spirit and adding abundant soil with His Word. Revive us Lord to bear Your fruit!

  10. 4 And thou shalt lay them up in the tabernacle of the congregation before the testimony, where I will meet with you.

8 And it came to pass, that on the morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds.

This chapter reminds me that we are all chosen for a purpose. But to be used we must be available. We must be waiting at the place where we meet with God.

  11. 5 Buds will sprout on the staff belonging to the man I choose.

Some have started withering away because we have stopped watering our fruit with His Spirit and adding abundant soil with His Word. Revive us Lord to bear Your fruit!

  12. God is in charge

Our God is Just. He has a way to shot the murmuring mouth. He give justice and fairness. He would show people by a sign that it was Him who chose Aaron and not Moises. Jealousy is NOT a good advisor neither is vanity. Think clearly what made you murmur against someone else, what made you go and tell others what you think is righ, the enemies tactics and strategies have not changed at all and it is obvious that men still falls by the same tricks. Be determine to serve God, be humbl, be submissive, do not start offering your opinion GOD DOES NOT NEED IT and if something inside of you burns and you need to say it, TELL THE LORD HE WILL GUIDE YOU TO SAY IT CORRECTLY AND NOT OFFENSIVELY!!!!!

  13. And the Lord said unto Moses, Bring Aaron’s rod again before the testimony, to be kept for a token against the rebels; and thou shalt quite take away their murmurings from me, that they die not. (‭Numbers‬ ‭17‬:‭10‬ KJV)

GOD still showing His mercy and Grace towards His children. But, why after all that your eyes have seen miracles, signs, and wonders, and still have room to complain. Anger, bitterness, jealousy, ect. Shows up and have the nerve to complain. Against GOD, The Pastor, and also against the brothers and sisters in Christ!!! I don’t understand this attitude. I don’t want any part of this. Be careful in the friends you choose to hang with.

  14. 10 And the Lord said unto Moses, Bring Aaron’s rod again before the testimony, to be kept for a token against the rebels; and thou shalt quite take away their murmurings from me, that they die not.

The favor of God and what God does with and through us stands as a testimony. It’s hard for people to murmer when they see it before their very eyes

  15. 5 And it shall come to pass, that the man’s rod, whom I shall choose, shall blossom: and I will make to cease from me the murmurings of the children of Israel, whereby they murmur against you.

God devised a way to stop the complaining of the people against Moses. Their complaining has caused judgements upon them so now God is supernaturally showing them who will be their spiritual leader or High Priest-Aaron. Can you imagine the confusion when people argue over who will be their Pastor and try to put a man into the this office that is not called of God? No one would be covered, there would be no authority from God and the people would suffer greatly for there is a way that seems right unto man, but the ends thereof are the way of death. Let God raise up who He will raise up (we have a great Pastor) and then get behind the man of God in your life so you/we can Grow!

  16. IT HAPPENED OVERNIGHT

The Natural became the Supernatural. A lifeless, ordinary piece of wood was laid before the LORD and LIFE happened to the dead rod. It is exciting to see the hand of GOD operate in our lives as we yield ourselves to HIM.

Seeing GOD turned this dead stick into a fruitful source OVERNIGHT, there should be no doubt that GOD can handle and work out our life situations.

What ever the lifeless situation or circumstance may be, lay it before the LORD. Miracles happen in the presence of GOD.

  17. 5 And it shall come to pass, that the man’s rod, whom I shall choose, shall blossom: and I will make to cease from me the murmurings of the children of Israel, whereby they murmur against you.

God takes down and puts up those who He chooses. Too many times we try to make room ourselves for the ministry God has blessed us with, but the bible declares that a mans gift will make room for itself. Obedience, submission, humility are all very important when the Lord begins to use us in ministries.

  18. 2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and take of every one of them a rod according to the house of their fathers, of all their princes according to the house of their fathers twelve rods: write thou every man’s name upon his rod.

  19. 10 And the Lord said unto Moses, Bring Aaron’s rod again before the testimony, to be kept for a token against the rebels; and thou shalt quite take away their murmurings from me, that they die not.

For all you people who need a sign to stop complaining. Here it is. Arron’s rod.

  20. 7 And Moses laid up the rods before the Lord in the tabernacle of witness.8 And it came to pass, that on the morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds.

Hallelujah!!! Jesus can turn any situation upside down! Our big problems may look like a chaos but the Lord is mighty and powerful to do ANYTHING

  21. 8 And it came to pass, that on the morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds.

And again we see God’s Glorry…his mercy and Grace!

  22. 5. I will use these rods to identify the man I have chosen: for buds will grow on his rod! Then at last this murmuring and complaining against you will stop!” TLB

  23. 4 And thou shalt lay them up in the tabernacle of the congregation before the testimony, where I will meet with you.

5 And it shall come to pass, that the man’s rod, whom I shall choose, shall blossom: and I will make to cease from me the murmurings of the children of Israel, whereby they murmur against you.

God has called each of us to ministry, but we must be available and submitted to truly be used by Him!

  24. 10 And the Lord said unto Moses, Bring Aaron’s rod again before the testimony, to be kept for a token against the rebels; and thou shalt quite take away their murmurings from me, that they die not.

When the Lord chooses some one for whatever role, whether ministry, or other work in the kingdom, the fruit will show and be for a testimony to others. Let your fruit show and keep humble that you may have the opportunity to bu used again. Aaron was not perfect but learned his lesson and humbled himself and kept side by side with the man of God. Don’t tell people look what I did, look how I’m used…let the fruit speak for itself that God is with you.

  25. House of God….
    Vs.13/
This speaks to me that we should be very careful what we do to God’s house. GOD CAN DESTROY US!!!
IN your sanctuary can be your tabernacle (house). Be careful who you let in. We need to ask for angels to encamp over our house.
    Bless you Lord.

  26. 4 And thou shalt lay them up in the tabernacle of the congregation before the testimony, where I will meet with you.

5 And it shall come to pass, that the man’s rod, whom I shall choose, shall blossom: and I will make to cease from me the murmurings of the children of Israel, whereby they murmur against you.

Question is will we be summited to God and be willing to do his work

  27. 10) and the Lord said unto Moses bring Aaron rod) again before the testimony to be kept for a token against the rebels and thou shalt quit take away their murmuring from me that they died not . 11) and Moses did so ad the Lord commanded him so did he

  28. 10/And the Lord said unto Moses, Bring Aaron’s rod again before the testimony, to be kept for a token against the rebels; and thou shalt quite take away their murmurings from me, that they die not.
Over and over again God has tried to convince the Israelites and prove to them of his miraculous and mighty works but yet still they seem to murmur and complain. They were full of doubt and fear. This chapter definitely encourages me and reminds me that there is nothing my God cannot do.

  29. With Korahs. *rebellion put down God.acts.to.confirm his.call of.Aaron’s family alone to the.priesthood. Leaders of.each tribe and.Aaron representing the.tribe.of.Levi lay.a.staff.before.the.Lord.Overnight Aaron’s.staff.buds.and.bears fruit.

  30. 8 And it came to pass, that on the morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds.
    (Numbers 17:8 KJVStrongs)

15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? 17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
    (Matthew 7:15-18 KJVStrongs)

God used fruit as validation for his man of God. It was the rod that budded, and brought forth fruit that proved who was his.

He said that he is the vine and we are the branches. Apart from him we can do nothing. We have fruit because of our connection with the Lord. Aron served in the temple, and was the one God chose.

There were many talented Israelites with skill and gifting, but God chose Aron to serve in that office. God’s appointment far outweighs any talent or ability we can possess.

    seek favor not fame

  31. The undeniable hand of God

8 And it came to pass, that on the morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds.

God chooses who he will. God could have chosen who ever he wanted without making rods bud, he could have brought the children of Israel out of Egypt without parting the Red Sea, he could have gotten rid of Korah without the hole in the ground swallowing them up. God can just speak it and it happens. These great signs and wonders are for us. They are to overcome our unbelief. God doesn’t need signs and wonders to do what he does. God doesn’t call things miracles, he just does his job.

    Mark 9:
23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

This is what is going on here. God is helping their unbelief. God does these things so that we would really believe.

    God heal our unbelief!

  32. 10 And the Lord said unto Moses, Bring Aaron’s rod again before the testimony, to be kept for a token against the rebels; and thou shalt quite take away their murmurings from me, that they die not.

    Back up You Rebels!

The Lord is tired of hearing us complain about so many things. He wants to to straighten up and just move on. We are not supposed to second guess His will and then complain about the things that are happening. Instead He wants us to remember the miracles He has done in our lives. He wants us to walk through our situations and face our giants with the confidence that He gives us as children of the most high God.

–Our testimonies are for us to look back at and see that He has done marvelous things in our lives. The are also ways to quiet the complainers that are around us who are trying to sway us into complaining about where we are. Doing the work of God is not a bad things. Our testimony reminds us and quiets others when they tell us there is no reason that we have to do “all those things” for God.

I’d rather do to much than be a complaining rebel that has to die.

  33. 12 And the children of Israel spake unto Moses, saying, Behold, we die, we perish, we all perish.
13 Whosoever cometh any thing near unto the tabernacle of the Lord shall die: shall we be consumed with dying?

First an evil report about the promise land, and now one about the Tabernacle. Many times today we see the same thing happening. People get mad because the man of God tells them they are going to have to work for their promise, and they get mad at him because they see challenges and they run from church because they are convicted of their attitudes.

We would be wise to stay humble and push on through to our promise.

  34. 8 And it came to pass, that on the morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds.
Not supposed to be possible! BUT MY GOD IS GREAT AND MIGHTY!!! NOTHING IMPOSSIBLE FOR MY DADDY!!! HE MAKES A WAY WHERE THERE IS NO WAY!!! HALELUJAH!!! I PRAISE YOU DADDY, FOR YOU ARE FAITHFUL MY JESUS!!! THANK YOU DADDY

  35. Matthew 22:14
For many are called, but few are chosen.

12 rods were a possiblilty but only one was chosen. When someone begins to “Grow” significantly in a area it could be that God is fertilizing them for a purpose. Don’t “hate” on them it was God and He knows what He is doing so trust him.

In this chapter he was chosen to stop the complaining. You may be chosen to starts prayer meeting that will grow revival. The point is this… Regardless if your position He chose you know be available.

  36. 10. And the Lord said to Moses, “Bring Aaron ‘s rode back before the Testimony , to be kept as a sign against the rebels that you may put their complaints away from Me, lest they die.
The Lord wanted that for a sign or testimony of advise, because our Lord never have wish the dead of the sinner. His is good!

  37. In OT times, a leaders authority was represented by his staff or rod (Ex 4:20; Isa 14:5). The Hebrew word “metteh” is sometimes translated “tribe” other times, “rod” Thus, in selecting one rod, God demonstrates not only his ultimate authority but also his selection of one man (Aaron) and one tribe (the tribe of Levi) to lead Israel’s worship. While Gods most recent signs to Israel have been destructive in nature due to the need to squelch rebellion, the sprouting of Aaron’s rod is affirming and life-giving. God goes exceedingly above and make the staff bud, and causing it to bear fruit. God can make the most unlikely things become fruitful to His glory.

  38. 5 Buds will sprout on the staff belonging to the man I choose. Then I will finally put an end to the people’s murmuring and complaining against you.”

Choose me Lord! Let me be the one to grow and spread your fuit to your people. I pray that you will use your people so blossom up in you that when we grow we will be able to plant and help grow seeds for you!

  39. Murmurings aren’t pleasing to God, and will be dealt with accordingly by God through his servants. But, what needs to be noticed corrections had to be made and continuance of this behavior should not be permitted. In other words, not allowing repetitive actions of murmurings being committed by the people time after time. God is merciful, but there is a time when enough is enough!

So, try keeping this in mind when you want to complain about anything. It’s not so easy……

  40. 8 And it came to pass, that on the morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds.

  41. 5 And it shall come to pass, that the man’s rod, whom I shall choose, shall blossom: and I will make to cease from me the murmurings of the children of Israel, whereby they murmur against you.

6 And Moses spake unto the children of Israel, and every one of their princes gave him a rod apiece, for each prince one, according to their fathers’ houses, even twelve rods: and the rod of Aaron was among their rods.

The word of God (Jesus) is final, regardless of what one may feel. One can read they readily handed over their rods when asked, which perhaps they thought they may have been chosen; however they previously questioned when asked other things. Dear God, help us to comprehend that none of us have a right to pick and choose only what we want. May God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  42. The last two verses seem to indicate the people still pitied themselves rather than praising God for His power and deliverance.

  43. “And the Lord said unto Moses, Bring Aaron’s rod again before the testimony, to be kept for a token against the rebels; and thou shalt quite take away their murmurings from me, that they die not.” The Lord provides us with what will help us, if we will but take the time to recognize it. God help us to seek your will over our own will, in Jesus name.

  44. 5 And it shall come to pass, that the man’s rod, whom I shall choose, shall blossom: and I will make to cease from me the murmurings of the children of Israel, whereby they murmur against you.

God makes his chosen known by the fruit that they bare

  45. 5 And it shall come to pass, that the man’s rod, whom I shall choose, shall blossom: and I will make to cease from me the murmurings of the children of Israel, whereby they murmur against you.

    When murmuring reaches the heavens

It’s amazing to see how bad this problem was in the people of Israel. It’s shows how ungrateful they were to God. It’s like a dog butting the masters hand that feeds him. I can see Gods mercy over some people and still people talk about him, don’t trust him or don’t serve him.

Such people need to be conscience that it only a matter of time until, you will reap what you sow!

  46. Verses 1-5 MSG says “God spoke to Moses: “Speak to the People of Israel. Get staffs from them—twelve staffs in all, one from the leader of each of their ancestral tribes. Write each man’s name on his staff. Start with Aaron; write Aaron’s name on the staff of Levi and then proceed with the rest, a staff for the leader of each ancestral tribe. Now lay them out in the Tent of Meeting in front of The Testimony where I keep appointments with you. What will happen next is this: The staff of the man I choose will sprout. I’m going to put a stop to this endless grumbling by the People of Israel against you.” These verses reminded me of “What now?”….as the end of these verses say watch and see “What will happen next is this…”.

  47. 3 And thou shalt write Aaron’s name upon the rod of Levi: for one rod shall be for the head of the house of their fathers.

The Lord hears and knows all intentions of the heart. He will not stand for evil, rebellion, disobedience and sin. He’ll put an end to all grumbling, Aaron’s staff is a symbol to remind the rebellious that those who are against him will die.

  48. 5 Buds will sprout on the staff belonging to the man I choose. Then I will finally put an end to the people’s murmuring and complaining against you.”

Complainers are never satisfied with evidence, they will always look to make an argument. They always have an issue with something or someone. Now God was ready to pass judgement, and no longer be patience with these complainers.
