Numbers 25

1 And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab.

2 And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods.

3 And Israel joined himself unto Baalpeor: and the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel.

4 And the Lord said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the Lord against the sun, that the fierce anger of the Lord may be turned away from Israel.

5 And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his men that were joined unto Baalpeor.

6 And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

7 And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand;

8 And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.

9 And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand.

10 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

11 Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.

12 Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace:

13 And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.

14 Now the name of the Israelite that was slain, even that was slain with the Midianitish woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a chief house among the Simeonites.

15 And the name of the Midianitish woman that was slain was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur; he was head over a people, and of a chief house in Midian.

16 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

17 Vex the Midianites, and smite them:

18 For they vex you with their wiles, wherewith they have beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of a prince of Midian, their sister, which was slain in the day of the plague for Peor’s sake.

  1. Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace:

13 And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.

  2. We see in this chapter how some of the Israelite men defiled themselves by having sexual relations with the Moabite women, feasting with them and worshiped the gods of Moab right along with them. Many today try to also “play in a sense” with this world thinking that they can control or only dabble in what they think is harmless; but you cannot as these men found out. We cannot afford to be distracted or seduced by this world; but, keep our eyes focused on Jesus.

  3. 11. “Phinehas son of Eleazar and grandson of Aaron the priest has turned my anger away from the Israelites by being as zealous among them as I was. So I stopped destroying all Israel as I had intended to do in my zealous anger.

    12. Now tell him that I am making my special covenant of peace with him.

    13. In this covenant, I give him and his descendants a permanent right to the priesthood, for in his zeal for me, his God, he purified the people of Israel, making them right with me.” NLT

Need less of God’s anger in your life, and more of His favor? (We all do). Show some zeal for Him and destroy the things in your life that make him angry.

  4. iLove to Grow in the Word

According to the biblical account, Moab and Ammon were born to Lot and Lot’s elder and younger daughters, respectively, in the aftermath of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. The Bible refers to both the Moabites and Ammonites as Lot’s sons, born of incest with his daughters Genesis 19:37-38.

With that knowledge, it is sad to think that Abraham prayed and made intercession for Lot only to have the future generation of Lot completely deceived and given into idol worship. If it is of any comfort however, Moab is mentioned in the last days as being a protector of Israel. The present day nation of Moab is the nation of Jordan.

  5. 10 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

When we are passionate for God, great blessings will follow.

  6. Peace

Phinehas Passion to see Gods word carried out drove him to take action in return God made a covenant of peace with him. Could it be some are lacking peace because we are too passive when it comes to sin.

    Joshua 24:14
“As for me and my house we will serve the Lord.”

We must understand that silence is acceptance and refuse to be silent or motionless. If the enemy is bold enough to try to enter or homes, church, and city with his lies then we need to be just as radical and send him packing. In the name of JESUS!

  7. 11 “Phinehas son of Eleazar and grandson of Aaron the priest has turned my anger away from the Israelites by being as zealous among them as I was. So I stopped destroying all Israel as I had intended to do in my zealous anger. (NLT)

Zeal: great energy or enthusiasm in pursuit of a cause or an objective.

Are we zealous to a level that is comparable to God’s level of zealousy? I mean that’s a whole lot of energy and enthusiasm; Eleazar here, was able to show that kind of zeal. We too should be passionate, enthusiastic, excited and zealous for the things of God. In the good and bad, we should be ready to magnify and defend, not only ourselves, but God. Hold His Word deep in your heart, let Him stretch you, allow yourself to become passionate and on fire for God in such a way that your zealousy becomes pleasing to Him.

  8. 11 Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.

12 Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace:

God had mercy on Phinehas, he spared him from death because he was loyal to him he forgave him and gave him peace.

God was angered because The Israelit’s worshipped Other God’s. The choices made were costly and lead to death. There is only one God and that is Jesus, our loyalty and obedience to him is what he desires from his people. Thank you Lord for your mercy and grace.

  9. Numbers 25:8-9

8 and rushed after the man into his tent. Phinehas thrust the spear all the way through the man’s body and into the woman’s stomach. So the plague against the Israelites was stopped, 9 but not before 24,000 people had died.

What a tragedy. People were dying all around Zimri and Cozbi. A plague had attacked Israel because of God’s anger. Yet the party still went on. The cluelessly abandoned reality for pleasure: all in the midst of judgment.

There is a danger in becoming caught up in the pleasurable things of this world. If we are not careful we can end up slipping into a level of distraction that will numb our senses to the tragedy around us.

People are lost and going to hell. We mustn’t become so involved in “fun” that we forget about the plague of sin around us.

  10. “Then the LORD said to Moses, “Phinehas son of Eleazar and grandson of Aaron the priest has turned my anger away from the Israelites by being as zealous among them as I was. So I stopped destroying all Israel as I had intended to do in my zealous anger. Now tell him that I am making my special covenant of peace with him. In this covenant, I give him and his descendants a permanent right to the priesthood, for in his zeal for me, his God, he purified the people of Israel, making them right with me. ””

After reading this passage of scripture I can see the importance of sharing the same vision as the leader. You gain influence and favor.

    Lord,
I pray that you would give me the heartbeat of my Pastor, allow me to share his vision, allow me to bear the burden that he bears for this great city. Give the Pentecostals of Fort Worth unity.

  11. It is amazing the human race ever survived at all. What a compassionate God to repeatedly have “his” people turn from Him to a world of wickedness and sin. These people ate the actual manna. They walked across the actual dry sea bed and witnessed with their own eyes the destruction of the Egyptian soldiers. They drank from the stone.

Yet, they continually turn from God. We have never eaten manna, drank water from a rock or walked on a dry sea bed to escape an army. Yet there are still those who choose to follow the Lord and those who choose to follow satan. Why? What was is the difference? What will it take for some people to realize they are marching to their own beat directly into the lake of fire?

  12. 14 Now the name of the Israelite that was slain, even that was slain with the Midianitish woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a chief house among the Simeonites.

We are warned that in the last days, even the elect will be deceived. We see here that that has been going on for many generations. We must study that we not be led astray too. One primary way is our shield of faith. They way our shield of faith works, is we build up our faith, studying the true doctrine, which is what is taught at POFW, not someone else’s doctrine, just to see where we can prove them right or wrong. We don’t need to prove anything, let the Word of God do that.

If we play with fire we will get burned. If we study other religions, we open doors that we don’t need to and give room for temptations that we don’t need too.

  13. THE DANGER OF FELLOWSHIP WITH THIS WORLD

The location that Israel chose to abide and the people they began to associate themselves with, positioned them for this tragic event, the judgement of GOD. It amazes me how quick conviction leaves an individual; when they make a move or get a “new” friend. Their HOLY worship became hellish idolatry.

The word “shittim” means “thorns”. The place the people of GOD chose to abide was unpleasant, uncomfortable, they could have kept moving to find a more pleasant location to live. But they chose to seek relations among the world, instead of seeking GOD for HIS will and positioning. The choice of the people gave birth to idolatry in their lives.

Idolatry infuriates GOD. He is jealous, no other gave life, resources, deliverance, protection and miraculous provision. Nevertheless the people chose adultery and idolatry.

We must be prayerful to keep our relationships pure in the sight of GOD, through fellowship with people that are PASSIONATE about GOD and HIS Kingdom.

As we should be the apostles doctrine and this modern-day life.

  15. LEADERS TAKE ACTION

    7 And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand;

How would Phinehas fare in the 2016?

Leaders, see a need and initiate action. We can talk about Revival and The Harvest, but what are we doing to initiate the urgency of the hour. If we believe only those that are Born Again of the water and Spirit are going to be saved. What are we doing about it?

  16. “Phine as the son of Eleazar, the son of AAaron the priest, has turned back bMyvwrath from the children of Israel , because he was zealous with my zeal among them, so that I did not consume the children of Israel in My zeal.

  17. 11 Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.

The Israelites are GOD’S chosen people, but being chosen does not mean that we are exempt from sin , the temptations of this world or the consequences from such.
In this verse we see that it took the zeal of one person to turn the wrath of THE LORD from the children of Israel. I know that there are lives of some people that have been kept from the wrath of GOD because of the zeal of POFW. (MINE)
LET’S GET MORE ZEAL POFW!!! HALELUJAH!!!

  18. 4 And the Lord said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the Lord against the sun, that the fierce anger of the Lord may be turned away from Israel.

    Leadership comes with a price.

  19. 1 And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab.

2 And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods.

3 And Israel joined himself unto Baalpeor: and the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel.

Balak, in our last chapter was unable to get Balaam to curse the people, so he went about gaining them as his victims by sending the daughters of Moab into their camps to lure to not only commit fornication and adultery physically, but they linked themselves up with idolatry and committed spiritual adultery as well.

Ever since the fall in the garden the enticement of this world to entangle men and women of God painting a picture of fulfillment, when in reality those who follow the this path are stepping from the road of life, to a road of shame, hurt, pain and death spiritually.

  20. 5So Moses ordered Israel’s judges, “Each of you must put to death the men under your authority who have joined in worshiping Baal of Peor.”

Even one is in a position of leadership, they are not exempt from the temptations of Satan. As leaders we are to be in guard of yourself and your family at all times. We must wear the Lord’s armour to protect ourselves from the fiery sinful darts being thrown our direction daily.

  21. Its crazy that even though all these thing were happening to the people, they still go on doing wrong. We should not be like the world, but more like God. Be careful when you think you can hide the things you do, God knows.

  22. People Pleaser

Have you ever watch a people pleaser. They tend to metamorphoses according with whom they are keeping company with. I had a sweet friend but I always kept my friendship at a distance because she went through life pleasing others so I never knew if she was being a real friend or just acting to fit in. She even got baptized in every single religion you can think of just in case hers wasn’t the true church Christ was returning for. People that live looking for the approval and acceptance of those around them loose their heads in frustration. This chapter reminded me of the famous phrase “when in Rome do as the Romans do” NO THANK YOU I HAVE BEEN LIBERATED FROM RITUALISTIC RELIGIONS LONG TIME AGO. Lord let us only be concern about pleasing YOU and no one else in Jesus Name I pray Amen!!

  23. 4 And the Lord said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the Lord against the sun, that the fierce anger of the Lord may be turned away from Israel.
Leaders give up privileges to follow what the Lord wants you to do. Sometimes we have to put the carnal flesh aside and follow the Lord. It is hard sometimes to do this but with God’s help I’m learning.

  24. 3 And Israel joined himself unto Baalpeor: and the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel.

4 And the Lord said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the Lord against the sun, that the fierce anger of the Lord may be turned away from Israel.
God does not play with idol worship and disobedience. we cannot join ourselves to the world or to carnal things we must keep our selves pure and be not conformed to the world because this invokes the anger of God.

  25. In this way, Israel joined in the worship of Baal of Peor, causing the Lord ’s anger to blaze against his people.
    Numbers 25:3 NLT

Becareful who you join yourself with. What one may think as harmless may just be the thing that angers the Lord.

  26. 11 Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.

12 Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace:

13 And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.

  27. 11 Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.

12 Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace:

Because of his obedience and willingness he saved a multitude of people from the wrath of God. A true leader will not “follow the crowd” on their way to sin but will speak up and compel them to follow God! We at POFW are blessed with a pastor who will speak up, correct us to try and save our soul!

Lord I pray that you would fill us with that spirit of leadership that we may lead all people to you!!

“Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.”
    ‭‭James‬ ‭5:20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

  28. Numbers 25:4 The Lord said to Moses take all the leaders of these people kill them and expose them in a broad daylight before the Lord so that the Lord’s fiece angermay turn away from Israel. So Moses said to Israel judges. Each of you must be put to death those of your people who have yoked themselves to Baal of Peor. Then an Israelite man brought into the camp a Midianite woman right before the eyes of Moses and the whole assembly of Israel while they were weeping at the entrance of the tent of the meeting . When Phinehas son of Eleazar the Son of Aaron the priest saw that this he left the assembly took a spear in his hand and followed the Israelite into the the into the tent. He drove the spear into both of them right through the Isarelite man and into the woman’s stomach. Then the plague against the Israelites was stopped but those who died in the plague number 24000.

  29. 25 While Israel stayed at Shittim, the people were not faithful to the Lord and began to have sex with the daughters of Moab. 2 They asked the people of Israel to bring gifts to their gods, and the people ate and bowed down to their gods. 3 So Israel joined themselves to Baal of Peor, and the Lord was angry with Israel.

HALLELUJAH!!! Be careful who you hang out with…are they bringing you closer to God or making you do things you should not do. As we want to spread the gospel to everyone doesn’t mean we should do the customs that they do so they can go to church. Be careful what you do and where you go???? As children of God, we have many eyes upon us that are expecting more of us for being Christians. Don’t let the things of this world consume you. WE ARE MORE THAN OVERCOMERS!!!! REBUKE ALL THE THINGS THAT ARE NOT OF GOD!!! Just remember who saved you??? Men or Jesus?!?!?!?!?

  31. 4 And the Lord said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the Lord against the sun, that the fierce anger of the Lord may be turned away from Israel.

  32. 12 Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace:

13 And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.

When we are zealous before God, we can help save the people around with our prayers we send up because God sees our heart and how passionate we are for him and he will hear our prayers for our friends and family

  33. Numbers 25:11-13 (MSG)
God spoke to Moses: “Phinehas son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, has stopped my anger against the People of Israel. Because he was as zealous for my honor as I myself am, I didn’t kill all the People of Israel in my zeal. So tell him that I am making a Covenant -of – Peace with him. He and his descendants are joined in a covenant of eternal priesthood, because he was zealous for his God and made atonement for the People of Israel.”

When we are passionate about God and care about His Honor, then He will honor us.

  34. AND they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat and bowed down to their gods 3) and lsrael joined himself unto baalpeor and the anger of the Lord was kindled against lsrael 9) and those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand 11) phinehas the son eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel while he was zealous for my sake among them that i consumed not the children of lsrael in my jealousy 12) wherefore say behold I give unto him my covenant of peace 13) AND he shall have it and his seed after him even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood because he was zealous for his god and made an atonement for the children of lsrael

  35. Stay away from strange Fire.

We are made to be separate from this world. We are a chosen people. And royal priest hood.

  36. 6 And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

The man who brought this woman into the camp may not have just heard what Moses ordered the men who lived for God to do, but he had such a blatant disregard for Moses and the Lord’s ways, that he didn’t care if he was seen by Moses bringing her in. He reaped what he sowed. The wages of sin is death. We must stay focused on the Lord and not this world and above all not it’s ways steal our fear/respect of God from us. Payday is coming.

  37. v11 Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest , hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.

Ministry on Christ’s behalf should be zealous. Our greatest desire should be pointing people to JESUS CHRIST.

  38. “And the Lord said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the Lord against the sun, that the fierce anger of the Lord may be turned away from Israel.” The word of God (Jesus) was very clear. One that believes one can live and worship anyway one wants, or that it doesn’t matter; may want to read how God (Judge) and not man, sees it. Dear God, open our eyes and ears; before your (Creator) anger, is kindled us (creation). God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  39. “And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.” It was very unwise for them to ignore the Lord. The Lord allowed it, just long enough, for all to see what would happen next. God help us too be mindful that we do not blatantly ignore you, and humble enough to repent while there is time, in Jesus name.

  40. 12 Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace

Lord help me to have a peaceful mind and kind heart and help me to be a peacemaker!!

  41. And the Lord said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the Lord against the sun, that the fierce anger of the Lord may be turned away from Israel.

    Exodus 20:3-5
3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

    5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

  42. What are you waiting on?

8 And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.

Most of the problems in our life could be solved by putting something to death in our lives or killing it. Paul said I die daily. He puts a javelin through whatever it is that would hinder him daily. If your going through something over and over again, ask God to reveal the source of the problem and then kill it.

  43. The bible declares our God is a jealous God. You can not put anything or anyone before him. When you serve God you have to do just that. You can’t try to serve others as well. Our focus must be on God and we must live him all the way. Not just when he’s blessing us. Our reward is in our obedience to his word.

  44. 11 Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.

12 Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace:

13 And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.

Sometimes we find ourselves in pretty crazy situations but if we do what we do for God and our love of God them he will show himself mighty just as he did with Phinehas

  45. 3So Israel yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor. And the Lord’s anger burned against them.

Two things stand out from this verse how “Israel yoked” themselves to and why the “Lord’s anger burned against them”. Whenever we leave the yoke of the Lord, his covering and position he puts us in, we make ourselves his enemies. The only way the enemy can touch us is if he can seduce us to leave our position in Him. The only way to deal with this rebellion is to get back in line and repentance of sins. The leaders were dealt with first because of their position then those below them because they are the influence that lead the people astray. Are we following after Jesus, Is the person over us leading us to Him, Are we leading others to Jesus?

  46. 6 And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

    7 And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand;
