Numbers 33

1 These are the journeys of the children of Israel, which went forth out of the land of Egypt with their armies under the hand of Moses and Aaron.

2 And Moses wrote their goings out according to their journeys by the commandment of the Lord: and these are their journeys according to their goings out.

3 And they departed from Rameses in the first month, on the fifteenth day of the first month; on the morrow after the passover the children of Israel went out with an high hand in the sight of all the Egyptians.

4 For the Egyptians buried all their firstborn, which the Lord had smitten among them: upon their gods also the Lord executed judgments.

5 And the children of Israel removed from Rameses, and pitched in Succoth.

6 And they departed from Succoth, and pitched in Etham, which is in the edge of the wilderness.

7 And they removed from Etham, and turned again unto Pihahiroth, which is before Baalzephon: and they pitched before Migdol.

8 And they departed from before Pihahiroth, and passed through the midst of the sea into the wilderness, and went three days’journey in the wilderness of Etham, and pitched in Marah.

9 And they removed from Marah, and came unto Elim: and in Elim were twelve fountains of water, and threescore and ten palm trees; and they pitched there.

10 And they removed from Elim, and encamped by the Red sea.

11 And they removed from the Red sea, and encamped in the wilderness of Sin.

12 And they took their journey out of the wilderness of Sin, and encamped in Dophkah.

13 And they departed from Dophkah, and encamped in Alush.

14 And they removed from Alush, and encamped at Rephidim, where was no water for the people to drink.

15 And they departed from Rephidim, and pitched in the wilderness of Sinai.

16 And they removed from the desert of Sinai, and pitched at Kibrothhattaavah.

17 And they departed from Kibrothhattaavah, and encamped at Hazeroth.

18 And they departed from Hazeroth, and pitched in Rithmah.

19 And they departed from Rithmah, and pitched at Rimmonparez.

20 And they departed from Rimmonparez, and pitched in Libnah.

21 And they removed from Libnah, and pitched at Rissah.

22 And they journeyed from Rissah, and pitched in Kehelathah.

23 And they went from Kehelathah, and pitched in mount Shapher.

24 And they removed from mount Shapher, and encamped in Haradah.

25 And they removed from Haradah, and pitched in Makheloth.

26 And they removed from Makheloth, and encamped at Tahath.

27 And they departed from Tahath, and pitched at Tarah.

28 And they removed from Tarah, and pitched in Mithcah.

29 And they went from Mithcah, and pitched in Hashmonah.

30 And they departed from Hashmonah, and encamped at Moseroth.

31 And they departed from Moseroth, and pitched in Benejaakan.

32 And they removed from Benejaakan, and encamped at Horhagidgad.

33 And they went from Horhagidgad, and pitched in Jotbathah.

34 And they removed from Jotbathah, and encamped at Ebronah.

35 And they departed from Ebronah, and encamped at Eziongaber.

36 And they removed from Eziongaber, and pitched in the wilderness of Zin, which is Kadesh.

37 And they removed from Kadesh, and pitched in mount Hor, in the edge of the land of Edom.

38 And Aaron the priest went up into mount Hor at the commandment of the Lord, and died there, in the fortieth year after the children of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the first day of the fifth month.

39 And Aaron was an hundred and twenty and three years old when he died in mount Hor.

40 And king Arad the Canaanite, which dwelt in the south in the land of Canaan, heard of the coming of the children of Israel.

41 And they departed from mount Hor, and pitched in Zalmonah.

42 And they departed from Zalmonah, and pitched in Punon.

43 And they departed from Punon, and pitched in Oboth.

44 And they departed from Oboth, and pitched in Ijeabarim, in the border of Moab.

45 And they departed from Iim, and pitched in Dibongad.

46 And they removed from Dibongad, and encamped in Almondiblathaim.

47 And they removed from Almondiblathaim, and pitched in the mountains of Abarim, before Nebo.

48 And they departed from the mountains of Abarim, and pitched in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho.

49 And they pitched by Jordan, from Bethjesimoth even unto Abelshittim in the plains of Moab.

50 And the Lord spake unto Moses in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho, saying,

51 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye are passed over Jordan into the land of Canaan;

52 Then ye shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy all their pictures, and destroy all their molten images, and quite pluck down all their high places:

53 And ye shall dispossess the inhabitants of the land, and dwell therein: for I have given you the land to possess it.

54 And ye shall divide the land by lot for an inheritance among your families: and to the more ye shall give the more inheritance, and to the fewer ye shall give the less inheritance: every man’s inheritance shall be in the place where his lot falleth; according to the tribes of your fathers ye shall inherit.

55 But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell.

56 Moreover it shall come to pass, that I shall do unto you, as I thought to do unto them.

  1. 55. But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell.

    56. Moreover it shall come to pass, that I shall do unto you, as I thought to do unto them.

If we do not destroy sin from our lives, we will be the ones who are destroyed.

  2. iLove to Grow in the Word

55 But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and “thorns in your sides”, and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell.

This is another example of the “Thorn in the Flesh.”

Many people claim that the Apostle Paul had a great sickness in his body when he wrote about his “Thorn in the Flesh”. This is inaccurate in the fact that the Word describes clearly what this thorn is.

7And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, “the messenger of satan” to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.

The Thorn in the flesh is not sickness but is the messenger of satan. We ,must destroy the inhibitors of the land in order to have peace.

  3. In reading the beginning of this chapter, it made me think of POFW and our campsites: from the clubhouse, to Silver Saddle Road (various stages there) and now Westpoint Blvd. Hallelujah, we are about to possess our promise. Thank you, Jesus.

The end of the chapter reminds us that we must however be obedient to ALL that the Lord commands in entering our promise, as we can not allow anything to come back and hinder our growth.

  4. 55 But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell.

56 Moreover it shall come to pass, that I shall do unto you, as I thought to do unto them.

    Joshua 23:12-13
“For if you ever go back and cling to the rest of these nations, these which remain among you, and intermarry with them, so that you associate with them and they with you, know with certainty that the LORD your God will not continue to drive these nations out from before you; but they will be a snare and a trap to you, and a whip on your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from off this good land which the LORD your God has given you.

    Isaiah 7:23-25

And it will come about in that day, that every place where there used to be a thousand vines, valued at a thousand shekels of silver, will become briars and thorns. People will come there with bows and arrows because all the land will be briars and thorns. As for all the hills which used to be cultivated with the hoe, you will not go there for fear of briars and thorns; but they will become a place for pasturing oxen and for sheep to trample.

  5. “” ‘Take the land as your own. Settle down in it. I have given it to you. Use lots when you give out the land. Do it based on the number of men who are in each tribe and family. Give a larger share to a larger group. And give a smaller group a smaller share. The share they receive by using lots will belong to them. Give out the shares based on the number of men in Israel’s tribes. ” ‘But suppose you do not drive out the people who are living in the land. Then those you allow to remain there will become like needles in your eyes. They will become like thorns in your sides. They will give you trouble in the land where you will live. Then I will do to you what I plan to do to them.’ “”
    ‭‭Numbers‬ ‭33:53-56‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

If we allow any past sin to remain when we possess the new land it will become a hindrance. As we grow into new heights in Christ we must know where we stand spiritually. We must evaluate where we want to grow spiritually and where were at. We must take inventory and search our hearts and allow God to remove whoever and whatever from our lives so that we can grow.

  6. 55 But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell.

56 Moreover it shall come to pass, that I shall do unto you, as I thought to do unto them.

If we are not diligent to remove things from our lives that effect our relationship with God, then those things will continue to cause problems for us.

  7. 56 Moreover it shall come to pass, that I shall do unto you, as I thought to do unto them.

Making sure to be set apart!!! Having an obedient heart is a must!!! We cannot succumb to the ways of this dark and dieing world. We are a chosen people!!! HALELUJAH!!! Thank you JESUS

  8. 9 And they removed from Marah, and came unto Elim: and in Elim were twelve fountains of water, and threescore and ten palm trees; and they pitched there.

Some places they departed and others they removed. We need to recognize the obstacles in our lives that we MUST remove. It is no hard as long as you have faith and NO DOUBTS.

Mark 11:23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

Lord help us have that kind of faith that as long as we remain in your will we may cast mountains to the sea. In Jesus Name AMEN

  9. 55-56 “But if you don’t drive out the native population, everyone you let stay there will become a cinder in your eye and a splinter in your foot. They’ll give you endless trouble right in your own backyards. And I’ll start treating you the way I planned to treat them.” (MSG)

Disobedience can turn a blessing into a curse!

  10. THE JOURNEY TO THE PROMISE

50 And the Lord spake unto Moses in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho, saying,
    51 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye are passed over Jordan into the land of Canaan;

This chapter reveals the cluttered itinerary of the children of Israel, along with the death of Aaron the priest. GOD led his people and instructed them where to stop and camp and when to move on. I believe all of the journeys were to teach the children of Israel the importance of obedience for the commission to possess Canaan.

The WORD of GOD came with specific instructions and with clear implications for disobedience.

DO what the LORD says or receive HIS judgement. It is time to drive out the inhabitants of our POFW land, our homes and our lives then destroy everything that does not bring GLORY to GOD. We must get RID of the junk and submit to obedience to inherit our promised land, destiny, destination.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  11. 52 Then ye shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy all their pictures, and destroy all their molten images, and quite pluck down all their high places:

53 And ye shall dispossess the inhabitants of the land, and dwell therein: for I have given you the land to possess it.
these verses show that God is clear about the importance of separation from the world. he wanted the Israelites to destroy any and everything that resembled sin or ungodliness or idolatry. we must remove from our lives anything that is not pleasing to God and not allowed to have any part of us if we expect to take part in his Heavenly inheritance.

  12. Follow the directions you were given and lessons you were taught.

56-Moreover it shall come to pass, that I shall do unto you, as I thought to do unto them.

The Lord does not promise anyone a second chance. We play with death when we willfully disobey and choose sin rather than Godly instructions. As unruly and unappreciative as these people have been; it sounds as though the Lord is done playing around. Remove the inhabitants of the land and destroy everything; seems simple and straight-forward.

I believe it is the first commandment for a reason:
Mark 12:30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

When we truly follow these commandments, everything else falls into place.

1 Corinthians 2:14-16 The unspiritual self, just as it is by nature, can’t receive the gifts of God’s Spirit. There’s no capacity for them. They seem like so much silliness. Spirit can be known only by spirit—God’s Spirit and our spirits in open communion. Spiritually alive, we have access to everything God’s Spirit is doing, and can’t be judged by unspiritual critics. Isaiah’s question, “Is there anyone around who knows God’s Spirit, anyone who knows what he is doing?” has been answered: Christ knows, and we have Christ’s Spirit.

  13. The journey though Life.

And Aaron the priest went up into mount Hor at the commandment of the Lord, and died there, in the fortieth year after the children of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the first day of the fifth month.

As I was reading this. I thought “Great just another chapter that says where they went. That’s all.” But was I wrong. We can look at this passage and say that. But what about bringing it on a personal level. The journey through life. You know what we’re on now. My thought though when I read the scripture reference was, we lose key people in this journey. I know for a fact. Because I lost my dad. I though I would be the one to take care of him when he got old. But I was wrong. He died when I was just 15. We never know who will be taken out of our lives at any moment. Listen to those around you. Because you just might learn something.

  14. Numbers 33:52
“Then ye shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy all their pictures, and destroy all their molten images, and quite pluck down all their Hugh places.”

Not only should we destroy all sin in our life, but we should get rid of all people that are bad influences in our life.

  15. What a journey…..understanding that they moved when the cloud by day, or pillar of fire moved, once they left Egypt and went to Rameses they moved 40 times until they arrived at Jordan by Jericho. There they were given instructions how to take the city when they arrived. Destroy everything, take down every high place and given further instruction the things they didn’t destroy would become pricks in their eyes, thorns in their sides and vex them.

We are on such a journey as well. We have been through many test/trials just like moving from place to place, and in essence we are moving from place to place in the spirit. Overcoming those test/trials are moving us higher each time. Even when they arrived at the promised land, they still had to enter with a fight in order to gain victory.

We are never going to GROW or gain victories without spiritual battles. Just remember every physical battle may not be physical but really might be spiritual and we just don’t recognize it. We need to pray about physical battles we are in and see if God would give us clarity as to whether we need to fight that battle on our needs, instead of in our flesh.

  16. Numbers 33 51 Speak to the Israelites and say to them when you cross the Jordan into Canaan drive out all the inhabitants of the land before you. Destroy all their carved images and their cast idols and demolish all their high places. Take possession of the land and settle in it for I have given you the land to possess. Distribute The Land by lot according to your clans. To a larger group give a larger inheritance and to a smaller group a smaller one. Whatever Falls to them by lot will be theirs. Distribute according to your ancestral tribes. But if you do not drive out the out the inhabitants of the land those you allow to remain will become barbs in your eyes and thorns in your side. Tthey will give you trouble in the land where you will live and then I will do to you what I plan to do to them.

  18. 55 But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell.

56 Moreover it shall come to pass, that I shall do unto you, as I thought to do unto them.

If we do not remove the things in our life that is holding us back from God it will come in and destroy us. We must separate ourselves from this world and unto God, to keep these thing out of our life!!

  19. God never goes back on his word , this is a warning for the Israelites that they should not take it lightly , God made it very clear that they must drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you . I will do to you as I do to them , but still for some reason the people did not obey . After a while the difference between and Israelite and a Canaanite was none . We must understand that God fulfilled his warning and he will not turn on his word

  20. 53) and ye shall dispossess the inhabitants of the land and dwell therein for i have given you the land to possess it

  21. 52 Then ye shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy all their pictures, and destroy all their molten images, and quite pluck down all their high places:
53 And ye shall dispossess the inhabitants of the land, and dwell therein: for I have given you the land to possess it.

The same is for today, and with sin. Although we can repent and make a decision to change when we are baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost, we can and do still fall. We must continually strive to not sin, and to continually ask for forgiveness. We also must begin to change even the people we hang out with, other wise they WILL slowly take us back to where we were before…

I DO NOT wan to be anything like I was before… I want to be more like JESUS.

  22. 53 And ye shall dispossess the inhabitants of the land, and dwell therein: for I have given you the land to possess it.

Before they could possess the land that God called them too, first they had to dispossess it from the people that were already in that land. If we want to bring revival to Fort Worth, first we need to dispossess it from the spirits that are trying to hold this city captive, like the stronghold of the spirit of the panther. When we dispossess from the spirits that are trying to lay calm on this city, it opens up space for the Holy Spirit to come in and change the hearts and minds of the people of this city.

  23. Upon reading this it made me think that God moved from one church whom is still in the building process and waiting for a financing company to another church in a building process and closer to opening up the building for the 1st time. God is not slack concerning his promises. Even to those that a far off he still is not slack concerning his promises. Time and time again we do not deserve his grace, mercy or love. I’m so thankful for a God that sees me beyond my faults, fears and trials in life. Daily we must strive to be like Jesus. We must take up our cross and allow the LORD to speak into our lifes. We must be very careful of the influences in which we allow into our lives! It can affect us from obtaining the land of promise for our self including our calling!

  24. Numbers 33:52-53 (NLT)

52 you must drive out all the people living there. You must destroy all their carved and molten images and demolish all their pagan shrines. 53 Take possession of the land and settle in it, because I have given it to you to occupy.

    Numbers 33:55-56 (NLT)

55 But if you fail to drive out the people who live in the land, those who remain will be like splinters in your eyes and thorns in your sides. They will harass you in the land where you live. 56 And I will do to you what I had planned to do to them.”

Before the land was to be divided they were to get rid of the idols and false god shrines. They were to purge the new land of anything that could cause the, failure in the future.

Although they were not dealing with this issue currently, by keeping these idols and shrines in the new land they would eventually succumb to its influence.

If they did not remove the idols then God would punish them in the new land.

I believe that by us taking spiritual inventory of our own lives and ridding ourselves of the things that will cause failure later we ensure victory and great success in the new land. Failure to do so could be planning for defeat.

  25. And ye shall dispossess the inhabitants of the land, and dwell therein: for I have given you the land to possess it.

We must get rid of all those hindrances that are in our life everything and distractions. In order to effectively live for God. We must be obedient to God’s word. We are a chosen generation therefore we shouldn’t think we can live for God the any way we want but only with our whole hearts.

  26. 52 Then ye shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy all their pictures, and destroy all their molten images, and quite pluck down all their high places:

53 And ye shall dispossess the inhabitants of the land, and dwell therein: for I have given you the land to possess it.

It is a promise land but there is still work to do. The instructions were to clear or destroy anything that does not give God glory. Going to new place means new people that may bring new thoughts and ideas or concepts. We must make sure that we do not allow anything that would hinder our relationship with God or bring sin into our lives.

  27. 55 But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell.

  28. 52 Then ye shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy all their pictures, and destroy all their molten images, and quite pluck down all their high places:
55 But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell.
56 Moreover it shall come to pass, that I shall do unto you, as I thought to do unto them.

The one and only God (Jesus) stated what they would need to do, and also what would happen, if they did not. One would be wise enough to “clean house”. If something is a hindrance between you and God (Creator), then discard of it; before it’s too late. Dear God, help us to see, hear, and be wise enough to give too you. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  29. “And Aaron the priest went up into mount Hor at the commandment of the Lord, and died there, in the fortieth year after the children of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the first day of the fifth month.” The Lord had stated what would be, and also provided the reason for it. There was a price for Aaron’s actions (doubt), which is why self-examination is so important (Numbers 20:12 And the Lord spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them). God order my steps and change my thinking so that they are pleasing too you, in Jesus name.

  30. The word left appears 40 times before coming to the Jordan to cross into Canaan. A coincidence to the amount of years spent in the wilderness I think not. God charges the Israelites to kick out the inhabitants that already live there. He is clear that every carved image, every cast idol and every high place of pagan worship must be destroyed. He issues a warning about the consequences for those who allow themselves to be pulled away from himself into evil lifestyles. Any remnant left would be a temptation and trouble to the Israelites as “barbs in (Their) eyes and thorns (Their) sides” (vs55). Today we can eliminate idolatry in much the same way in our lives.

  31. God has given us the land to possess it. What will you do with what God has given you? We can just sit back and expect things to happen. We must be willing and ready to move forward. The bible tells us to be ye also ready.

  32. 2 At the LORD’s direction, Moses kept a written record of their progress. These are the stages of their march, identified by the different places where they stopped along the way.

Wow, so many moves along the way. Here I thought, and those who served in the military move alot. The average move for military personnel is about 5-10 moves during a career. The Israelites moved almost 40 times. They had to stay in a ready & prepared position to continue their march to the promise land. We too, should always be ready & prepared to tell our testimony to others.

  33. 55 But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell.
56 Moreover it shall come to pass, that I shall do unto you, as I thought to do unto them.

Each place they traveled they had a lesson to learn in trusting and obeying God and the man of God, both the people and the priests. Now he layed their options before them-utterly drive the inhabitants of this land he gives them or suffer from those they allow to stay and even end up being driven out of the land themselves. It shouldn’t have been a hard decision by this time. They should have known to obey his word to the fullest.

  34. They departed and went! Where is going removing us from. I know He removed me from a life full of sin. Even though I thought that I was doing “good” God has mercy upon me and reached for me so I could be transformed. Jesus is the only reason why I have joy because He is alive and is in me!!! HALLLELUJAH!!!!

  35. 55 But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell.

56 Moreover it shall come to pass, that I shall do unto you, as I thought to do unto them.

The Lord is serious, there’s consequences to those that deceive the Lord thinking they can get by easily.

His warning should be taken serious. Nobody will get by without punishment.

  36. God has given us the power to overcome anything that try’s to accomplish itself against us it will be defeated in Jesus name because the one who is in us is greater than the one who is in the world. God gives us challenges in our lives to learn from them and be wiser about making our own decisions we make in life so we can overcome obstacles and learn from them for we should not let the devil enter and rule our lives and let him place things in us that hurt us inside to make us do things that we know that are wrong and that are not righteous. I believe What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

  37. 55 But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell.

56 Moreover it shall come to pass, that I shall do unto you, as I thought to do unto them.
