Numbers 36

1 And the chief fathers of the families of the children of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of the sons of Joseph, came near, and spake before Moses, and before the princes, the chief fathers of the children of Israel:

2 And they said, The Lord commanded my lord to give the land for an inheritance by lot to the children of Israel: and my lord was commanded by the Lord to give the inheritance of Zelophehad our brother unto his daughters.

3 And if they be married to any of the sons of the other tribes of the children of Israel, then shall their inheritance be taken from the inheritance of our fathers, and shall be put to the inheritance of the tribe whereunto they are received: so shall it be taken from the lot of our inheritance.

4 And when the jubile of the children of Israel shall be, then shall their inheritance be put unto the inheritance of the tribe whereunto they are received: so shall their inheritance be taken away from the inheritance of the tribe of our fathers.

5 And Moses commanded the children of Israel according to the word of the Lord, saying, The tribe of the sons of Joseph hath said well.

6 This is the thing which the Lord doth command concerning the daughters of Zelophehad, saying, Let them marry to whom they think best; only to the family of the tribe of their father shall they marry.

7 So shall not the inheritance of the children of Israel remove from tribe to tribe: for every one of the children of Israel shall keep himself to the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers.

8 And every daughter, that possesseth an inheritance in any tribe of the children of Israel, shall be wife unto one of the family of the tribe of her father, that the children of Israel may enjoy every man the inheritance of his fathers.

9 Neither shall the inheritance remove from one tribe to another tribe; but every one of the tribes of the children of Israel shall keep himself to his own inheritance.

10 Even as the Lord commanded Moses, so did the daughters of Zelophehad:

11 For Mahlah, Tirzah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Noah, the daughters of Zelophehad, were married unto their fathers brothers’ sons:

12 And they were married into the families of the sons of Manasseh the son of Joseph, and their inheritance remained in the tribe of the family of their father.

13 These are the commandments and the judgments, which the Lord commanded by the hand of Moses unto the children of Israel in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho.

  1. 6. This is what the LORD commands concerning the daughters of Zelophehad: Let them marry anyone they like, as long as it is within their own ancestral tribe. NLT

It’s so important that our children marry into the family of God, lest we watch our inheritance slip away. I realize that once they reach a certain age, we don’t have the final say in who they marry, but it’s our job as parents to teach them why it’s important and guide them to choose a mate from our Heavenly Father’s tribe.

    2 Corinthians 6:
    14. Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

    15. And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?

    17. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,

    18. And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

  2. And if they be married to any of the sons of the other tribes of the children of Israel, then shall their inheritance be taken from the inheritance of our fathers, and shall be put to the inheritance of the tribe whereunto they are received: so shall it be taken from the lot of our inheritance.

So we cannot run off and married just anybody we want. You need to make sure this person will help you live for God and won’t tear you down. In the bible its says not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers. This is to protect us from being in disunity with our spouses. When you get married you become one and it just works better for the both of you to serve the one and only God. We can work in the kingdom of God effectively and do Gods will as we summit ourselves to God together. We don’t have to worry about whos God the other person is going to serve..

  3. 5 Moses, at God’s command, issued this order to the People of Israel….

“At God’s command.” How fast are we to jump up at the Lords command? I’d hope real fast or we’d miss our opportunity to serve, be blessed, and even be a blessing. At Your command God, we will go!

  4. 3 And if they be married to any of the sons of the other tribes of the children of Israel, then shall their inheritance be taken from the inheritance of our fathers, and shall be put to the inheritance of the tribe whereunto they are received: so shall it be taken from the lot of our inheritance.

As long as you stay in the will of God, the blessings of the Lord will follow you all the days of your life!

  5. The family they belonged to was part of that half of the tribe of Manasseh which were yet to have their lot within Jordan, not that half that was already settled; and yet they speak of the land of their possession, and the inheritance of their fathers, with as great assurance as if they had it already in their hands, knowing whom they had trusted.

  6. 12 And they were married into the families of the sons of Manasseh the son of Joseph, and their inheritance remained in the tribe of the family of their father.
There is a spiritual inheritance that God has for his people. This inheritance allows us to partake in things of the spirit that normally would not be ours to enjoy. Spiritual blessings like the infilling of the holy ghost were not originally for us Gentiles but God has blessed us to be able to partake in that blessing and as a result we are able to live abundant lives.

  7. 3 And if they be married to any of the sons of the other tribes of the children of Israel, then shall their inheritance be taken from the inheritance of our fathers, and shall be put to the inheritance of the tribe whereunto they are received: so shall it be taken from the lot of our inheritance.

If you give sacrificially God is going to bless you more than you could ever think, sometimes you may think your not worth what God has done for you but in his eyes your perfect!!

  8. 13 These are the commandments and the judgments, which the Lord commanded by the hand of Moses unto the children of Israel in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho.
The Lord commands and one day he will judge. Will you be ready when that judgement day comes? I would hope and pray that you are.

  9. Moses, at GOD ’s command, issued this order to the People of Israel: “What the tribe of the sons of Joseph says is right. This is GOD ’s command to Zelophehad’s daughters: They are free to marry anyone they choose as long as they marry within their ancestral clan. The inheritance-land of the People of Israel must not get passed around from tribe to tribe. No, keep the tribal inheritance-land in the family. Every daughter who inherits land, regardless of the tribe she is in, must marry a man from within her father’s tribal clan. Every Israelite is responsible for making sure the inheritance stays within the ancestral tribe. No inheritance-land may be passed from tribe to tribe; each tribe of the People of Israel must hold tight to its own land.”

Zelophehad’s daughters did just as GOD commanded Moses. Mahlah, Tirzah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Noah, Zelophehad’s daughters, all married their cousins on their father’s side. They married within the families of Manasseh son of Joseph and their inheritance-lands stayed in their father’s family. (‭Numbers‬ ‭36‬:‭5-12‬ MSG)

Keeping the inheritance within the family is and should be applicable in today’s society (church). We have lost many children which were in the truth because they have gone astray. Becoming vagabonds, when everything that they ever needed was at their reach. God didn’t call us out and brought us out of Egypt to bring us to the promise land just to,look back to Egypt and return to bondage. We must ‘hold tight’ to what has been given us. The inheritance that was paid with the ultimate sacrifice, JESUS Christ Himself. He gave so that we may have, live, and give.

  10. Hebrews 13:6-7 “so we may boldly say:” the lord is my helper;I will not fear.what can man do to me?”remember those of who rule over you, who have spoken the word of God to you, whose faith follow ,considering the outcome of their conduct”

  11. God will always out smart you!

This looks a little suspect to me. I noticed that they were very quick to see a so called discrepancy in what Moses had spoke over there people. In our human nature I believe in there mind they were trying to get more land. That the daughters keep the first inheritance and a new be put over the sons.

Gods smarter! I think if we some how try to take advantage of curtain things in Gods kingdom we will fall on our face and inheri the result of it to our children.
If we trust in Gods wisdom over earthly possessions God will never do you wrong.

  12. God gave this commandment as a test.if the women failed to marry within the tribe the blessing would be gone from them, but if they stay faithful to what God commanded them to do the tribe will keep gods blessing.

  13. according to the word of the Lord,
If God said it it should be backed up with bible, the bible is the living word of God if you can’t back it up with bible it is not from God.

  14. iLove to Grow in the Word

Numbers 36:9 NLT No grant of land may pass from one tribe to another; each tribe of Israel must keep its allotted portion of land.”

The nation of Israel in today’s generation, they have started giving away land for peace. It is very evident from this scripture that God never intended on giving land for peace or anything else for that matter.

  15. All we have to do is submit to the Lord and his blessings will come too you. Submitting to authority goes along with submitting to God’s will.

  16. 4 And when the jubile of the children of Israel shall be, then shall their inheritance be put unto the inheritance of the tribe whereunto they are received: so shall their inheritance be taken away from the inheritance of the tribe of our fathers.

We are not meant to be unequally yoked because we’re all called to do something in God and if we sell that calling to marry someone not equally called then we could risk losing our inheritance to the Kingdom of God

  17. 3 But if they marry men from another tribe, their grants of land will go with them to the tribe into which they marry. In this way, the total area of our tribal land will be reduced.

Gods blessing will follow you! Stay with God, grow in God and the blessing that comes from it will follow you through all of it!

  18. Gabriela: God has inheritance for us, and all we have to do to get it is to stay true to God.

Victoria:The daughters of the tribe obeyed God and so we should also obey God.

  19. KEEP IT IN THE KINGDOM

The concern presented was 2 fold here. While Israel was BLESSED with inheritance , there will occasionally be unique circumstances such as mentioned here. The LORD included every tribe, however GOD was so detailed in regards to the man being the head of the home. These young ladies would have been left out.

The LORD gave through Moses clear instructions in regards to how to keep the land in the tribe.

THE DAUGHTERS WERE ONLY ALLOWED TO MARRY CERTAIN MEN.

This is one of the reasons that we teach for young women to only consider APOSTOLIC PENTECOSTAL young men to marry and vice versa. KEEP IT IN THE KINGDOM. Young ladies should not be attracted to any young man that is not in the APOSTOLIC FAITH. You risk your SPIRITUAL inheritance.

Be encouraged young adults GOD has not forgotten you. Focus on JESUS and you will find your answer.

    KEEP IT IN THE KINGDOM

  20. This is the thing which the Lord doth command concerning the daughters of Zelophehad, saying, Let them marry to whom they think best; only to the family of the tribe of their father shall they marry.

The importance of not being unequally yoked is demonstrated in our chapter today. They were to marry who they thought best, within their own tribes. How can two walk together except they agree? Each tribe may have differed in some manner. Staying within the tribe ensured that there was no division on whose rituals or principles to follow.

Today, even in the Pentecostal world it is very important to know them that labor among you so that when dating and choosing a bride/groom, you find out as much about their relationship with the Lord as possible. Just because they say they are pentecostal does not mean that they are sold out to the doctrine/holiness/separation principles which all make up what we know as TRUTH.

Don’t settle for less. Keep to your convictions. God will honor you.

  21. 5 And Moses commanded the children of Israel according to the word of the Lord, saying, The tribe of the sons of Joseph hath said well.
6 This is the thing which the Lord doth command concerning the daughters of Zelophehad, saying, Let them marry to whom they think best; only to the family of the tribe of their father shall they marry.

Pastor and First Lady have given great words of advise and encouragement for young adults seeking marriage. Stay within the tribe Moses said. Look how big our ‘tribe’ actually is! The youth have mostly all been to NAYC or NYC & have seen thousands of other young adults who love God! My thought on it is to find your work for the Lord and focus on Him and He will send you someone working for the Lord too. What a great match-someone who loves the Lord and trying to please Him. That’s a person worth noting. You will be blessed marrying within this apostolic faith.

  22. stay in the will of God and keep close to him and the covering of the blood along with his covering will carry you thru good and bad.

  23. 12 And they were married into the families of the sons of Manasseh the son of Joseph, and their inheritance remained in the tribe of the family of their father.
Acts 10:34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:

My God is a God of equal opportunity and He has no favorites. What He has done for me; He will do for you. THANK YOU JESUS FOR YOU ARE JUST.

  24. “Of the Tribe of your Father”

6 This is the thing which the Lord doth command concerning the daughters of Zelophehad, saying, Let them marry to whom they think best; only to the family of the tribe of their father shall they marry.

Marriage is a choice. We have the ability to marry whom we think is best but they must be of the tribe of our Father which is in heaven.

Yet he gave us a earthly father or someone to be a father figure in our lives. This is why it is vital that fathers portray Jesus in everything they do and say. Young ladies are looking to you to find what he should be like.

Moms we are not left out this same principle is for us. As parents we are setting the norms for our children. What we do, how we act, and what we say will affect them.

Yes there are men and women that will grow up evaluate their lives and how we were as parents to the word of God and allow God to lead them but they will still have to fight the noise of insecurity. Yet if we become solid foundations for them to build on there will be no question of what tribe they are to marry.

  26. 5) NLT so Moses gave the lsraelites this command from the men of the tribe of Joseph is legitimate 6) this is what the lord commands concerning the daughters of zelophehad : let them marry anyone they like as long as it is within their own ancestral tribe

  27. Numbers 36:1-5 (NLT)
Then the heads of the clans of Gilead-descendants of Makir, son of Manasseh, son of Joseph – came to Moses and the family leaders of Israel with a petition. They said, Sir, the LORD instructed you to divide the land by sacred lot among the people of Israel. You were told by the LORD to give the grant of land owned by our brother Zelophehad to his daughters. But if they marry men from another tribe, their grants of land will go with them to the tribe into which they marry. In this way, the total area of our tribal land will be reduced. Then when the Year of Jubilee comes, their portion of land will be added to that of the new tribe, causing it to be lost forever to our ancestral tribe.
So Moses gave the Israelites this command from the LORD: The claim of the men of the tribe of Joseph is legitimate.

As I read this, I was thinking about how important it is for us to Protect our Inheritance in the Lord. Don’t let any one or any thing cause you to loose your inheritance in God.

  28. Numbers 36:9

9 No grant of land may pass from one tribe to another; each tribe of Israel must keep its allotted portion of land.”

If we just ask God we will find that he truly does care that his people are treated fairly and not taken advantage of. In this situation the daughter of zelophehad could have transferred lands to a different tribe through inheritance. God saw the need and then answered accordingly.

  29. “The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: but the just shall come out of trouble.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭12:13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The Lord will be with us as we travel this world. It is our relationship with Him that helps us determine what to do when we make mistakes and/or get into trouble. This verse states: come out of trouble. This leads me to believe trouble will find us. That is life.

    Mathew 5:43-47
“You’re familiar with the old written law, ‘Love your friend,’ and its unwritten companion, ‘Hate your enemy.’ I’m challenging that. I’m telling you to love your enemies. Let them bring out the best in you, not the worst. When someone gives you a hard time, respond with the energies of prayer, for then you are working out of your true selves, your God-created selves. This is what God does. He gives his best—the sun to warm and the rain to nourish—to everyone, regardless: the good and bad, the nice and nasty. If all you do is love the lovable, do you expect a bonus? Anybody can do that. If you simply say hello to those who greet you, do you expect a medal? Any run-of-the-mill sinner does that.

  30. 9 Neither shall the inheritance remove from one tribe to another tribe; but every one of the tribes of the children of Israel shall keep himself to his own inheritance.

10 Even as the Lord commanded Moses, so did the daughters of Zelophehad:

  31. Moses understood the importance of following God’s word. It was not something to just be taken lightly. We must heed to and obey every word of God. It is not meant for us to pick and choose which words we follow. We must take every word to heart and run with it.

  32. Verses 7-9 MSG says “The inheritance-land of the People of Israel must not get passed around from tribe to tribe. No, keep the tribal inheritance-land in the family. Every daughter who inherits land, regardless of the tribe she is in, must marry a man from within her father’s tribal clan. Every Israelite is responsible for making sure the inheritance stays within the ancestral tribe. No inheritance-land may be passed from tribe to tribe; each tribe of the People of Israel must hold tight to its own land.” Ladies hold tight to your promise and the Lord will bring that special someone into your life when its the right time! Any relationship that does not bring you closer to God is not meant to be.

  33. “And Moses commanded the children of Israel according to the word of the Lord, saying, The tribe of the sons of Joseph hath said well.” The word of God (Jesus) identified the fact that their cause was just. There are times when a situation/matter may need to be addressed/discussed; however there is a right way and a wrong way for both the receiver and sender. Dear God, help us to seek you first and then communicate as you would. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  34. “And when the jubile of the children of Israel shall be, then shall their inheritance be put unto the inheritance of the tribe whereunto they are received: so shall their inheritance be taken away from the inheritance of the tribe of our fathers.” The Lord provided direction through Moses, as too inheritance. There was concern over inheritance then just as there is today, which sadly often results in fighting. God help us to recognize and truly seek your will in all matters, in Jesus name.

  35. 5 And Moses commanded the children of Israel according to the word of the Lord, saying, The tribe of the sons of Joseph hath said well.

We must make sure that we take the time to articulate well and make sure we are cleat about what we say as we explain Jesus to those around us.

  36. And the chief fathers of the families of the children of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of the sons of Joseph, came near, and spake before Moses, and before the princes, the chief fathers of the children of Israel: And they said, The Lord commanded my Lord to give the land for an inheritance by lot to the children of Israel: and my Lord was commanded by the Lord to give the inheritance of Zelophehad our brother unto his daughters. And if they be married to any of the sons of the other tribes of the children of Israel, then shall their inheritance be taken from the inheritance of our fathers, and shall be put to the inheritance of the tribe whereunto they are received: so shall it be taken from the lot of our inheritance. And when the jubilee of the children of Israel shall be, then shall their inheritance be put unto the inheritance of the tribe whereunto they are received: so shall their inheritance be taken away from the inheritance of the tribe of our fathers. And Moses commanded the children of Israel according to the word of the Lord , saying, The tribe of the sons of Joseph hath said well.
    Numbers 36:1-5 KJV
    http://bible.com/1/num.36.1-5.KJV

It looks clearly that they had payed attention and knew the word of God, what he had said before going to the man of God. If ever you want to bring a concern before the man of God make sure to have learned what the word of God says that he, the man of can agree with you.

  37. “And Moses commanded the children of Israel according to the word of the Lord, saying, The tribe of the sons of Joseph hath said well.”
    ‭‭Numbers‬ ‭36:5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“These are the commandments and the judgments, which the Lord commanded by the hand of Moses unto the children of Israel in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho.”
    ‭‭Numbers‬ ‭36:13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    Thankful for the Word!

“Instead, he takes delight in the law of the Lord. He thinks about his law day and night. He is like a tree that is planted near a stream of water. It always bears its fruit at the right time. Its leaves don’t dry up. Everything godly people do turns out well.”
    ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭1:2-3‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

  38. This chapter sets up the rules for handling the inheritance. In a male dominated society, it was necessary to have a system in place for when there was no male to take up the inheritance.

  39. 7 So shall not the inheritance of the children of Israel remove from tribe to tribe: for every one of the children of Israel shall keep himself to the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers.

The lands of Israel would have become like a patchwork quilt over time had it not been established that the lands given to each tribe would remain their inheritance. In the times of division between Israel and Judah, during the times of Saul and David, even today during the times of Jews and Phalistinians… The inheritance of Israel was not given in order to be divided, from either disunity within or attacks without. Our lives would become like a patchwork quilt if we do not guard what God has given to us and the order He established for our lives; our spiritual and even natural lives will become a divided, confused mess, whether it be through our own poor decisions or from attacks of the enemy.

  40. 13These are the commands and regulations that the LORD gave to the people of Israel through Moses while they were camped on the plains of Moab beside the Jordan River across from Jericho.

As always the Lord has commands for all situations. We must be obedient to God and the blessings will follow.

  41. 1 And the chief fathers of the families of the children of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of the sons of Joseph, came near, and spake before Moses, and before the princes, the chief fathers of the children of Israel:

2 And they said, The Lord commanded my lord to give the land for an inheritance by lot to the children of Israel: and my lord was commanded by the Lord to give the inheritance of Zelophehad our brother unto his daughters.

  42. “Thus no inheritance shall change hands from one tribe to another, but every tribe of the children of Israel shall keep its own inheritance.””(Numbers‬ ‭36:9‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

Those who consult the oracles of God, concerning the making of their heavenly inheritance sure, shall not only be directed what to do, but their inquiries shall be graciously accepted. God would not have one tribe enriched at the expense of another. Each tribe was to keep to its own inheritance.

  43. Non-transferable

“Neither shall the inheritance remove from one tribe to another tribe; but every one of the tribes of the children of Israel shall keep himself to his own inheritance.”
    ‭‭Numbers‬ ‭36:9‬ ‭KJV‬‬
    http://bible.com/1/num.36.9.kjv

It remind me of the scripture warning to save yourself. We can’t do it for anyone else and once we have it we can’t give it to a new person. It is easy bough to become positioned Biblically to follow he commands of the Bible, but the rub is in the follow through.

  44. Just as Zelophedad’s daughters want to keep their father’s property within the family (Num 27:1-11), so also the family heads wish to keep Zelophedad’s land within the tribe. God ensured that the unmarried women would receive their fathers inheritance. Here, he protects the interests of their tribe, ruling that all female heirs must marry within their own tribal clan. This ruling does not appear to have been a hardship for the sisters. The women have freedom in selecting their husbands but only one restriction applies: “They may marry anyone within the tribal clan of their father.” In order for the women of today to possess the promises God has in store he requires to marry equally yoked.
