Deuteronomy 5

1 And Moses called all Israel, and said unto them, Hear, O Israel, the statutes and judgments which I speak in your ears this day, that ye may learn them, and keep, and do them.

2 The Lord our God made a covenant with us in Horeb.

3 The Lord made not this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day.

4 The Lord talked with you face to face in the mount out of the midst of the fire,

5 (I stood between the Lord and you at that time, to shew you the word of the Lord: for ye were afraid by reason of the fire, and went not up into the mount;) saying,

6 I am the Lord thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

7 Thou shalt have none other gods before me.

8 Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth:

9 Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me,

10 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.

11 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain: for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

12 Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee.

13 Six days thou shalt labour, and do all thy work:

14 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates; that thy manservant and thy maidservant may rest as well as thou.

15 And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the Lord thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore the Lord thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day.

16 Honour thy father and thy mother, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

17 Thou shalt not kill.

18 Neither shalt thou commit adultery.

19 Neither shalt thou steal.

20 Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbour.

21 Neither shalt thou desire thy neighbour’s wife, neither shalt thou covet thy neighbour’s house, his field, or his manservant, or his maidservant, his ox, or his ass, or any thing that is thy neighbour’s.

22 These words the Lord spake unto all your assembly in the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice: and he added no more. And he wrote them in two tables of stone, and delivered them unto me.

23 And it came to pass, when ye heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, (for the mountain did burn with fire,) that ye came near unto me, even all the heads of your tribes, and your elders;

24 And ye said, Behold, the Lord our God hath shewed us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire: we have seen this day that God doth talk with man, and he liveth.

25 Now therefore why should we die? for this great fire will consume us: if we hear the voice of the Lord our God any more, then we shall die.

26 For who is there of all flesh, that hath heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived?

27 Go thou near, and hear all that the Lord our God shall say: and speak thou unto us all that the Lord our God shall speak unto thee; and we will hear it, and do it.

28 And the Lord heard the voice of your words, when ye spake unto me; and the Lord said unto me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken unto thee: they have well said all that they have spoken.

29 O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!

30 Go say to them, Get you into your tents again.

31 But as for thee, stand thou here by me, and I will speak unto thee all the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which thou shalt teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess it.

32 Ye shall observe to do therefore as the Lord your God hath commanded you: ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.

33 Ye shall walk in all the ways which the Lord your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.

  1. iLove to Grow in the Word

NLT :29 Oh, that they would always have hearts like this, that they might fear me and obey all my commands! If they did, they and their descendants would prosper forever.

Wow, the Lord is looking for folks to worship and serve Him. He wants to bless those who fear and respect His holy name. He wants us to prosper, but the fact of the matter is, He wants his people to have pure and humble hearts.

For us to truly enter into His Kingdom of blessing, we must choose to humble ourselves each and every day.

  2. 33. Ye shall walk in all the ways which the Lord your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.

  3. Powerful chapter today!! His word is fresh and new each day.

    Proverbs 17
10 A quiet rebuke to a person of good sense does more than a whack on the head of a fool.
21 Having a fool for a child is misery; it’s no fun being the parent of a dolt.
25 A surly, stupid child is sheer pain to a father, a bitter pill for a mother to swallow.

It may not do much good – some people just need a good whack!

  4. 10 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.

33 Ye shall walk in all the ways which the Lord your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.

2 Corinthians 1:20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

    HALELUJAH!!!

  5. Deut. 5:1, “AND Moses called all Israel, and said unto them, Hear, O Israel, the statutes and judgments which I speak in your ears this day, that ye may learn them, and keep, and do them.”

First you have to HEAR the Word of God being spoken.
Then LEARN it. Study it for yourself.
Then KEEP it. Hide it in your heart.
Last you have to DO it. Put it into practice and live by it.

If we only hear the Word of God and never study, keep, or do it, we deceive our own selves.
    James 1:22-25
    22) But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
    23) For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
    24) For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
    25) But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

Don’t just be a hearer but a doer!

  6. 32 So Moses told the people, “You must be careful to obey all the commands of the Lord your God, following his instructions in every detail. 33 Stay on the path that the Lord your God has commanded you to follow. Then you will live long and prosperous lives in the land you are about to enter and occupy. (NLT)

The Lord has a plan, a will, for each one of us. My one desire is to not only be in the Will of God, but to stay there. If we follow and obey Him with our whole heart, He will bless us with life abundant!

  7. 31 But as for thee, stand thou here by me, and I will speak unto thee all the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which thou shalt teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess it.

These verses show me that obedience proceeds possession. that in order to receive what God desires us to receive we must be willing to observe and do all the Commandments that God gives us. in addition to that we must not turn to the right or to the left but be consistently faithful in what God has called us to do in doing so we get to possess the land and our days are prolonged In our promise.

  8. 16 Honour thy father and thy mother, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

33 Ye shall walk in all the ways which the Lord your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.

The word of God (Creator) provides the key. One can find many articles, pills and such that all will promise peace and long life; however there is only one true way. The Creator (Jesus) provides the way, clearly, in his word. Dear God, direct our paths towards you and not towards another. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  9. “O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!” The Lord’s desire is that our heart would desire him enough to keep his commandments, which they are there for our benefit. God let our desire be for more of you, in Jesus name.

  10. 29 O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!

This is the state of mind and heart God desires for us all-to have such a respect for him that we would keep his commandments and teach them to our children. Help us grow in fear (grave respect) of the Lord.

  11. GROW IN GOD

Walk in the ways of the LORD requires a commitment to obey the commands of GOD. We are wise to daily examine our commitments and practices.

  12. A chosen people. To be able to hear the lord and live. What an honor to hear him freely. His commandments. And pure wisdom.

“For who is there of all flesh, that hath heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived?”
    ‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭5:26‬ ‭KJV‬‬

  13. Verses 28-29 MSG “God heard what you said to me and told me, “I’ve heard what the people said to you. They’re right—good and true words. What I wouldn’t give if they’d always feel this way, continuing to revere me and always keep all my commands; they’d have a good life forever, they and their children!” Same verses in the AMP ” “The Lord heard your words when you spoke to me, and the Lord said to me, ‘I have heard the words of this people which they have spoken to you. They have done well in all that they have spoken. Oh that they had such a heart in them, that they would fear [and worship Me with awe-filled reverence and profound respect] and keep all My commandments always, so that it may go well with them and with their children forever!” Throughout the generations, so much has been lost in following the commandments, in reverence and respect. We must get back to these, teach them and live them. Lord help us and save us today.

  14. 33 Ye shall walk in all the ways which the Lord your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.

AMEN!!! Hallelujah! When we walk in the ways He has commanded us to walk, we shall be well and prolong our days. It goes back to yesterdays chapter…OBIDIENCE!!! Obey the Lord for His ways are better than our ways. His thoughts are better than our thoughts. He is sending us to prosper and to fulfill His kingdom. Lets grow the kingdom of God!!

33 Walk in obedience to all that the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess. (NIV)
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jer. 29:11)

  15. What a honor it is to be able to clearly hear the voice of the LORD when walking in his true honor, glory and presence. When I sit back and think of all the mess I could of been dead for I’m thankful that his grace kept me this far. He thought I was worth saving and dying for. Forever grateful for God picking up even when I didn’t deserve it and placing my feet upon a solid foundation and rock!

  16. 10 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.

Be careful and don’t confuse God’s mercy with acceptance.

  17. 6 I am the Lord thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
If God has already brought you out of bondage and set you free why would you want to go back to sin? That doesn’t make sense to me, if you were told to not climb the ladder cause you could fall and you climbed that ladder anyhow and fell and broke your leg, would you do it again? I think that is how Jesus feels when one of his children are not obeying him. He is telling us he sent us a Pastor and Pastor’s wife for us to lead a life where we don’t harm ourselves. But yet we/I disobey and do our thing. what happens? we fall and get hurt…..yes we can get up when we fall but when we do we are to change or path and go down the right one. It is not falling that is bad it is falling and NOT getting up. Listen to our leaders and elders they know what is good for us!!

  18. “At the mountain the LORD spoke to you face to face from the heart of the fire.”
    ‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭5:4‬ ‭NLT‬‬

There’s something about a mountain top experience with God! You start to see things from heavens point of view. And you can find yourself face to face with God.

  19. O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever! (‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭5‬:‭29‬ KJV)

    Amen, Amen!!!!!

  20. 23 And it came to pass, when ye heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, (for the mountain did burn with fire,) that ye came near unto me, even all the heads of your tribes, and your elders;

24 And ye said, Behold, the Lord our God hath shewed us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire: we have seen this day that God doth talk with man, and he liveth.

Many people want a word from the Lord about thier lives but do not bother to seek His, God’s face, in the word. He is talking all the time but we must get rid of the distractions and get alone with God. He may be talking about some things in your charecter that need molding or how he will suply all your needs and not to worry…..the only way to hsve him speak is relationship. Growing your relationship with God helps you recognize His voice when he talks directly to your spirit.

  21. 1) And Moses called all Israel and said unto them hear o Israel the statutes and judgments which I speak I your ears this day that year may learn them and keep and do them 2 the LORD our GOD made a covenant with us in Horeb

  22. God gave us only TEN commandments and we couldn’t even follow them, even with it written down for us! He gave us these commands and just like sheep without a shepherd we strayed from his statutes or commands. Thank God we have a much better promise with the New Covenant and a true mighty Shepherd to follow his true voice!

    “Follow”……….

  23. I lay the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected—even children in the third and fourth generations of those who reject me.

This goes to show, we parents have the responsibility of teaching our children the word of God. If we don’t our grandchildren and future generations will continue to be lacking in knowing who God is, and they will be lost.

  24. Deuteronomy 5:32-33
32 So Moses told the people, “You must be careful to obey all the commands of the Lord your God, following his instructions in every detail. 33 Stay on the path that the Lord your God has commanded you to follow. Then you will live long and prosperous lives in the land you are about to enter and occupy.

It really is that simple. Obey his commands, follow his instructions and you will live long and prosperous lives.

Don’t obey him or follow his instructions and you will live short and perilous lives. He made it simple for us. He is poised to bless the obedient and will judge iniquity.

  25. 27 Go thou near, and hear all that the Lord our God shall say: and speak thou unto us all that the Lord our God shall speak unto thee; and we will hear it, and do it.

Hearing and doing are two different things. When we ask to hear what Jesus is saying, do we really want to hear all, or are we simply trying to ease our conscience? Rather way, we become responsible for everything we are told.

  26. 32 Ye shall observe to do therefore as the Lord your God hath commanded you: ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.

  27. 32 Ye shall observe to do therefore as the Lord your God hath commanded you: ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.

33 Ye shall walk in all the ways which the Lord your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.

  28. 9 Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me,

For thy shalt worship no other Gods; for the lord whose name is jealous; is a jealous God. Exodus 20:14

  29. v27 Go thou near, and hear all that the LORD our God shall say: and Speak thou unto us all that the LORD our God shall speak unto thee; and we will hear it, and do it.
v29 O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them , and with their children for ever!

We must remember the value of our new- birth experience and guard against drifting away from it.
” We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do drift away” Hebrews2:1 ( NIV)

GOD’S WORD IS ABLE TO KEEP US ON TO ETERNAL LIFE.

  30. 3 The Lord made not this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day.

4 The Lord talked with you face to face in the mount out of the midst of the fire,

  31. What will you do when you hear the voice of God? Will you hold onto every word or will you allow God’s word to fall by the wayside. The word of God is what keeps us strong and allows us to move forward.

  32. This chapter recounts the giving of the 10 commandments and Moses proclamation to the people. The rules and regulations were given to instruct them on how to go about life.

  33. 13 Six days thou shalt labour, and do all thy work:

14 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates; that thy manservant and thy maidservant may rest as well as thou.

    Isaiah 28:11-12
11 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.

12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.

God holds us responsible for those we are over in our “house” or influence, whether they be family or simply those whose work we direct and oversee. Because of our authority over them, we have the opportunity to influence them to draw nearer to God, or inversely influence them to pull away. God commanded for families to rest along with the servants with them, and it was up to the heads of the house to “make room” for all of his house to experience the rest God gave. The New Testament “rest” we see fulfilled in the infilling of the Holy Spirit, and just the same we are responsible to make conditions right for others to have the opportunity to receive the Holy Ghost. A house, workplace, or any relationship filled with strife and unholiness, with no time for prayer or the Word, has no room for “rest” before God; but those filled with peace where God’s presence is invited to dwell and time is daily made for seeking the Lord is an opportunity for God’s “rest” to be experienced. Our example and leadership can influence others to desire the Holy Ghost and seek to be filled by God, or do just the opposite if we do not fulfill God’s commands.

  34. 29 O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!

This is my prayer for today – that I always have fear in me to reverence the Lord and keep his commandments always that it might be well with me, my family and children forever.

  35. 29 O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their child.

Keep the favor you have obtained from God on your children by keeping his commandments. Just as sin can be transferred to your generations after you. Blessing through obedience can our children inherit by our faithfulness in keeping is commandments.

Give your children a gift that can not be bought, wellness from God.

  36. God issues the ten commandments an incomplete guide until Jesus’ coming to fulfil the law. Moses is to teach them to follow these commands as they go into the land God is giving them to posses. Like them we are to walk in the way God prepares, not to turn to the right or to the left. The mission God is setting is for the Israelites to remain focused while the people they are overtaking and the nations surrounding them may tempt them to turn away.
