Deuteronomy 13

1 If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder,

2 And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them;

3 Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the Lord your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

4 Ye shall walk after the Lord your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him.

5 And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; because he hath spoken to turn you away from the Lord your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, to thrust thee out of the way which the Lord thy God commanded thee to walk in. So shalt thou put the evil away from the midst of thee.

6 If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers;

7 Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth;

8 Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him:

9 But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people.

10 And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die; because he hath sought to thrust thee away from the Lord thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

11 And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall do no more any such wickedness as this is among you.

12 If thou shalt hear say in one of thy cities, which the Lord thy God hath given thee to dwell there, saying,

13 Certain men, the children of Belial, are gone out from among you, and have withdrawn the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which ye have not known;

14 Then shalt thou enquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and, behold, if it be truth, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought among you;

15 Thou shalt surely smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly, and all that is therein, and the cattle thereof, with the edge of the sword.

16 And thou shalt gather all the spoil of it into the midst of the street thereof, and shalt burn with fire the city, and all the spoil thereof every whit, for the Lord thy God: and it shall be an heap for ever; it shall not be built again.

17 And there shall cleave nought of the cursed thing to thine hand: that the Lord may turn from the fierceness of his anger, and shew thee mercy, and have compassion upon thee, and multiply thee, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers;

18 When thou shalt hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, to keep all his commandments which I command thee this day, to do that which is right in the eyes of the Lord thy God.

  1. 7 Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth;

  2. Verse 4 AMP says “You shall walk after the Lord your God and you shall fear [and worship] Him [with awe-filled reverence and profound respect], and you shall keep His commandments and you shall listen to His voice, and you shall serve Him, and cling to Him”. We have to have that close relationship with God in order to clearly know His voice. In these last days, so many things will feel good, sound good and even may even look real; but, do not be deceived! The end of the chapter says in verse 18 MSG “Yes. Obediently listen to God, your God. Keep all his commands that I am giving you today. Do the right thing in the eyes of God, your God.”

  3. 3 Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the Lord your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

So shalt thou put the evil away from the midst of thee.

    Acts 4:12
    “NEITHER IS THERE SALVAVION IN ANY OTHER: FOR THERE IS NONE OTHER NAME UNDER HEAVEN GIVEN AMONG MEN, WHEREBY WE MUST BE SAVED.”

  5. 14 Then shalt thou enquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and, behold, if it be truth, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought among you;

    15 Thou shalt surely smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly, and all that is therein, and the cattle thereof, with the edge of the sword.

    Smite the inhabitants. God is a jealous God. He does not want us (me) to put any others before Him, nigh does He want us (me) to pull His children away. I know that we (I) are to serve God with all our (my) heart and not to lead anyone astray. To pull others from the will of God is an act of blasphemy to the Holy Spirit. We (I) should be embracing those that seek the truth of God. I had somebody ask me one time, ‘What is it that you see in God?’
    My response to him was, ‘It’s not what I see in God, It’s what God sees in me.’ That rings truer than it ever has. Yes I’ve put things, people, and objects before God. I know now that I was wrong in my way of thinking. Now God is and always will be first in my life.

  6. 16. Pile all the city’s goods in the middle of the public square, and then burn down the whole city and everything in it. This will be a burnt offering showing your complete loyalty to the Eternal your God. That city must never be rebuilt; let it remain a ruin forever. Voice

    Once we destroy the things in our lives that were leading us away from God, we must never go back to them. Remove every trace and burn the bridges so there is no temptation to go back.

  7. Deuteronomy 13:5 (NLT)
    5 The false prophets or visionaries who try to lead you astray must be put to death, for they encourage rebellion against the Lord your God, who redeemed you from slavery and brought you out of the land of Egypt. Since they try to lead you astray from the way the Lord your God commanded you to live, you must put them to death. In this way you will purge the evil from among you.

    Galatians 4:8 (KJV Strong’s)
    8 Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods.

    We all served our idols. Our addictions has us bound. We couldn’t live without bowing at the altar of sin and worldliness. But the cross redeemed us and his spirit adopted us.

    Why return like a dog to his vomit?

    False prophets and false teachers do not tell lies about the one true God but rather lead people to a different god altogether.

    We must be careful. God has delivered us and let us know he doesn’t change. He doesn’t want us to go back to our sinful lifestyles before him and we need to be on guard for teaching that leads us from him to another god.

    Our only defense is his word.
    David said that in order to avoid sinning against God he his the word in his heart.

    The word will keep us from idolatry and from false prophets.

    Our relationship with him separates us from sin and deception.

  8. Ye shall walk after the Lord your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him. (‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭13‬:‭4‬ KJV)

  9. 3 do not listen to them. The Lord your God is testing you to see if you truly love him with all your heart and soul.
    4 Serve only the Lord your God and fear him alone. Obey his commands, listen to his voice, and cling to him. (NLT)

    We will be tested, temptation will come, but we can make a decision for ourselves and declare that Jesus is the one and only God who reigns above all. Cling to the Lord and let nothing distract you from relationship with Him.

  10. WE MUST CUT SOME PEOPLE OFF TO GROW

    6 If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers;
    7 Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth;

    Family is a GOD granted institution. I am BLESSED to be First Generation Apostolic believer. JESUS revealed himself TRUTH to me in 1988 at the age of 22. I shared TRUTH with my Mother, Father, Son and Daughter in hopes they would all follow JESUS as I have chosen. Some have chosen other paths, however I remain committed to CONTEND for The FAITH first delivered unto the Saints. John 3:5 and Acts 2.

    Regretfully there will be decisions to make that may separate us from family relationships, but will connect us with Spiritual relationships. We should choose JESUS and the Apostles doctrine of salvation and separation unto the LORD. If family or friends attempt to turn us away the scripture tells us to CUT THEM OFF. Stop listening to them about their idols and false gods. Commit to serve the only GOD; his name is JESUS.

  11. iLove to Grow in the Word

    This blog is amazing and God willing and the creek dont rise I shall write more tonight.

    3Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the Lord your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

    Just because someone has a prophetic ministry and does signs and wonders does not mean you should follow that person. The question is, WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY? or as Pastor says, “Where’s that in the Bible?” Boom, the Word is amazing thank-you Jesus.

  12. 16 And thou shalt gather all the spoil of it into the midst of the street thereof, and shalt burn with fire the city, and all the spoil thereof every whit, for the Lord thy God: and it shall be an heap for ever; it shall not be built again.

    17 And there shall cleave nought of the cursed thing to thine hand: that the Lord may turn from the fierceness of his anger, and shew thee mercy, and have compassion upon thee, and multiply thee, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers;
    God is very concerned about the relationships that we keep. he wants his people to stay separated from the world and from ungodliness. so much so that he wants us to destroy from our lives and cut off anything that takes us away from him. nothing is more important than serving God with all of our heart soul mind and strength.

  13. 16 And thou shalt gather all the spoil of it into the midst of the street thereof, and shalt burn with fire the city, and all the spoil thereof every whit, for the Lord thy God: and it shall be an heap for ever; it shall not be built again.

    The spoil, things in the houses of the people around them, we’re not allowed into the homes of the children of Israel. Any tool, implement or decor of the false god they worshipped brought into their home would allow that spirit of the false god (deception) to come into the home of the children of Irsael too. It had to be burned to keep the people from taking it and admiring it and eventually adorning their homes with it.

  14. 6 If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers;

    7 Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth;

    It is very sad when someone chooses to walk away from their relationship with the Lord. We find in today’s chapter that those that encourage that soul to serve other Gods will be judged and find their punishment in due time.

    We must check our hearts and ensure that we are in no wise encouraging someone away from God, but bringing people to God.

    We are leaders, let us lead in the right way to the right place.

  15. Deut. 13:3-5
    3) Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
    4) Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him.
    5) And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; because he hath spoken to turn you away from the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, to thrust thee out of the way which the LORD your God commanded thee to walk in. So shalt thou put the evil away from the midst of thee.

    2 Peter 2:1-2 says, “BUT there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the LORD that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way if truth shall be evil spoken of.”

    Just as there were false prophets in those days turning the heart of the people away from God, there are false teachers among us today who are turning the hearts of people away from God, because they are teaching things that are contrary to God’s Word.

    We must…
    Love God with ALL our Heart and Soul
    Walk after God
    Fear God
    Keep God’s Commandments
    Obey God’s Voice
    Serve God
    Cleave to God

    Contend For THE FAITH!

  16. Deut. 13:4 Ye shall walk after the Lord your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him.
    ***This is all I want to do!!***

    2 Kings 23:3 And the king stood by a pillar, and made a covenant before the Lord, to walk after the Lord, and to keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes with all their heart and all their soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people stood to the covenant.

  17. Whose report will you believe???

    6 If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers;
    7 Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth;

    I guess our lives and will always revolve around that specific questions. Whose report will you believe? If your brother, or son, or any kin comes to you with any other word but the word of God it says to kill them. Now, today that’s against the law. That is one of the reasons God wrapped himself in flesh and was born into a virgin and died in the cross so we may have grace and reconciliation. We do not physically kill our kin but we separate until repentance and reconciliation has taken place. We do not follow them into spiritual death, but pray for them to return to Their Father’s Home. May the Lord help us the always follow His word and His plan in our lives and to not kill our kin but pray that they will return to th truth and be saved. In Jesus Name Amen

  18. “So you must not listen to what that prophet or dreamer has said. The Lord your God is putting you to the test. He wants to know whether you love him with all your heart and with all your soul. You must follow him. You must have respect for him. Keep his commands. Obey him. Serve him. Remain true to him.”
    ‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭13:3-4‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

    Contend for the faith! It’s only a test!

    “Dear friends, I really wanted to write to you about the salvation we share. But now I feel I should write and ask you to stand up for the faith. God’s people were trusted with it once and for all time.

    In the very same way, those dreamers pollute their own bodies. They don’t accept authority. They speak evil things against heavenly beings. But not even Michael did that. He was the leader of the angels. He argued with the devil about the body of Moses. But he didn’t dare to speak evil things against the devil. Instead, he said, “May the Lord stop you!””
    ‭‭Jude‬ ‭1:3, 8-9‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

  19. 18 When thou shalt hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, to keep all his commandments which I command thee this day, to do that which is right in the eyes of the Lord thy God.

    We should listen to God and follow his leading and things will be much better for us. His way is the be

  20. Make sure you hear and follow the voice, and know that our God is a very jealous God. Jesus said my sheep know my voice and they follow me, and they won’t follow of voice of a stranger.

    “It is written”…………..

  21. 6 If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers;

    7 Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth;

    8 Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him:

    We shouldn’t let anyone come in between us and God! If someone comes and tries to fill our head with lies about our God, we must separate ourselves from them and pray the truth would be revealed to them!

  22. When thou shalt hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, to keep all his commandments which I command thee this day, to do that which is right in the eyes of the Lord thy God.

  23. 18 When thou shalt hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, to keep all his commandments which I command thee this day, to do that which is right in the eyes of the Lord thy God.

    One key I see to this voice, is that we can’t keep his commandments and do what is right in his eyes if we don’t hear his voice. If we don’t hear his voice, than how are we gonna “listen” to God? The key is to know his voice and to listen carefully for his instructions in our life, so that we may live right before him.

  24. 12 If you hear it said about one of the towns the Lord your God is giving you to live in 13 that troublemakers have arisen among you and have led the people of their town astray, saying, “Let us go and worship other gods” (gods you have not known), 14 then you must inquire, probe and investigate it thoroughly. NIV

    Be very careful who pushes you or leads you away from God. Don’t let the devil deceive you in your faith. Guard what you believe for we are not of this world. Those that love the Lord should stand out in a crowd because of the holiness that is in them. Don’t be ashamed of the gospel because Jesus was the only one that died for us. We don’t deserve none of these but He just loves us so much and has so much mercy upon us. Thank u Lord!!!!

    2 Thess 2:3

  25. 4 Ye shall walk after the Lord your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him.

    Amen! God help us to fear you, and serve you always! We mist keep his commandments .

  26. God has a plan for all of us and we should not let people stop us for doing that we should all though our dreams might not see like nothing now it might seem to fair or to hard not everyone Is going to agree with you dreams the mighty hate you because you dreams but god has a plan my dream is is to have everyone in my family to be in the church and praising and worshiping god my other dreams is to go fair in the Ministry in to be a great leader

  27. 9 But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people.

    10 And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die; because he hath sought to thrust thee away from the Lord thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

    No playing around

    We take somethings lightly when it comes to our walk with God. We don’t realize at times but there are things we allow in our lives that we make an idol. We pursue careers, pursue financial goals, pursue position and many other things rearing them up before God not realizing that it has taken Gods place.

    If there is anything in your life, a job, a relationship, anything that pulls you away from going to church, giving tithes, paying your commitments, hinders your worship, it is not God given. Everything God brings to our lives has the purpose to draw us nearer to Him.

    Do a self examination, take a look at your life and get ride of the things that have the potential of taking Gods place in your life.

  28. 3 Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the Lord your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

    6 If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers.

    The word of God (Jesus) provides what some could consider to be a harsh stance; however one should give serious thought on what comes from disobeying God (Judge). Unfortunately America has begun to see what happens from deceptive comments such as; it doesn’t matter, it’s all the same, do your own thing, or ‘coexist’. One would be very wise to observe, obey, and pray. Dear God, open our eyes to the deception that has crept in. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  29. “And there shall cleave nought of the cursed thing to thine hand: that the Lord may turn from the fierceness of his anger, and shew thee mercy, and have compassion upon thee, and multiply thee, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers”. We should first consider and then do what makes the Lord happy, so that we do not have to find out what makes him angry. God help us in doing your will, which has eternal consequences, in Jesus name.

  30. There will be plenty of tests, trials, and tribulations in one lifetime but it is up to you to follow Jesus. Love God with all your heart. Let Him fight your battles and love you

  31. Religious tolerance: Them and Now

    I believe in the accommodation theory, that God accommodates to us so that we can understand him. In ANE culture, it was not uncommon to annihilate a city or kill a person that disrespected your god. So, the Jews had instructions that fit their culture. Today, we aspire to apply the underlining principles in today’s culture. We don’t kill people. We must handle situations in a better way. Today we can debate with reason or let them be. In a post modern world that rejects absolute truth, it is a challenge to sway the opinions of others.

  32. One must be cautious of who and what they listen to. That is whay it is told for us to study the scriptures time and time again that we may not be pulled away by false doctrines. Know the word. If its not in the word then its probably not true.

    Galatians 1:8
    New International Version
    But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse!

  33. 17 And there shall cleave nought of the cursed thing to thine hand: that the Lord may turn from the fierceness of his anger, and shew thee mercy, and have compassion upon thee, and multiply thee, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers;
    18 When thou shalt hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, to keep all his commandments which I command thee this day, to do that which is right in the eyes of the Lord thy God

    Sometimes it is only when we first move that we get to see Him move.

  34. Ever wonder why?

    For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.”
    ‭‭Jude‬ ‭1:4‬ ‭KJV

    The bible gives understanding in Deuteronomy 13.
    “If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder, And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them; Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the Lord your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.”
    ‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭13:1-3‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    God is trying to see if you will be fooled or seek after him. This is one of the reasons it says they were ordained of old. He put these things there for us to really prove to ourselves and him that we are seeking after him with our whole heart. If we can easily be swayed then it is obvious we are not seeking after him. If we are fooled then we has proven that other gods, this world, or self have come before him.

  35. If their was ever a wonder in the Israelites minds if God means what he says about worshipping other Gods, these words dispel any doubts. Moses tells them that if anyone “entices” you to worship other gods, don’t show pity and don’t protect that person. Whoever it is must be put to death -even if it’s your family or friends. God tells his people he is a jealous God (Ex 34:14). He will allow devotion to no one except himself. Those other gods are useless and powerless. But this jealous God is only God, the one who holds the power of life and death and healing in his hands (Dt 32:39).

  36. Deuteronomy 13:3

    The Lord permitted false prophets in order to test the Israelites. Although God always knew the disposition of their hearts, the testing allowed the people to see themselves in the same light. It also allowed them to exercise their faith (1Cor. 10:13). By resisting the temptation to fallow false God’s, they would strengthen their faith and increase their love for God.
