Deuteronomy 14

1 Ye are the children of the Lord your God: ye shall not cut yourselves, nor make any baldness between your eyes for the dead.

2 For thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God, and the Lord hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth.

3 Thou shalt not eat any abominable thing.

4 These are the beasts which ye shall eat: the ox, the sheep, and the goat,

5 The hart, and the roebuck, and the fallow deer, and the wild goat, and the pygarg, and the wild ox, and the chamois.

6 And every beast that parteth the hoof, and cleaveth the cleft into two claws, and cheweth the cud among the beasts, that ye shall eat.

7 Nevertheless these ye shall not eat of them that chew the cud, or of them that divide the cloven hoof; as the camel, and the hare, and the coney: for they chew the cud, but divide not the hoof; therefore they are unclean unto you.

8 And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it is unclean unto you: ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcase.

9 These ye shall eat of all that are in the waters: all that have fins and scales shall ye eat:

10 And whatsoever hath not fins and scales ye may not eat; it is unclean unto you.

11 Of all clean birds ye shall eat.

12 But these are they of which ye shall not eat: the eagle, and the ossifrage, and the ospray,

13 And the glede, and the kite, and the vulture after his kind,

14 And every raven after his kind,

15 And the owl, and the night hawk, and the cuckow, and the hawk after his kind,

16 The little owl, and the great owl, and the swan,

17 And the pelican, and the gier eagle, and the cormorant,

18 And the stork, and the heron after her kind, and the lapwing, and the bat.

19 And every creeping thing that flieth is unclean unto you: they shall not be eaten.

20 But of all clean fowls ye may eat.

21 Ye shall not eat of anything that dieth of itself: thou shalt give it unto the stranger that is in thy gates, that he may eat it; or thou mayest sell it unto an alien: for thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother’s milk.

22 Thou shalt truly tithe all the increase of thy seed, that the field bringeth forth year by year.

23 And thou shalt eat before the Lord thy God, in the place which he shall choose to place his name there, the tithe of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herds and of thy flocks; that thou mayest learn to fear the Lord thy God always.

24 And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it; or if the place be too far from thee, which the Lord thy God shall choose to set his name there, when the Lord thy God hath blessed thee:

25 Then shalt thou turn it into money, and bind up the money in thine hand, and shalt go unto the place which the Lord thy God shall choose:

26 And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the Lord thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thine household,

27 And the Levite that is within thy gates; thou shalt not forsake him; for he hath no part nor inheritance with thee.

28 At the end of three years thou shalt bring forth all the tithe of thine increase the same year, and shalt lay it up within thy gates:

29 And the Levite, (because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee,) and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the Lord thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest.

  1. 22 Thou shalt truly tithe all the increase of thy seed, that the field bringeth forth year by year.

  2. GROW BY BRINGING THE TITHE

25 Then shalt thou turn it into money, and bind up the money in thine hand, and shalt go unto the place which the Lord thy God shall choose:

For years I have heard the misguided statement of “I don’t pay my tithe to man, or anywhere specific, I just help people and thats my tithe.”

There are 2 major biblical deceptions in this statement:

    1. The TITHE belongs to the LORD, it is a TITHE of our increase, but it is the LORDs.

    2. GOD makes no provision for his TITHE to go anywhere but to his house, the place he chose for us to be taught and instructed, fed and nourished, filled and healed, rebuked and corrected, led and guided, loved and forgiven, challenged and directed.

Bring the TITHE to the LORD and be BLESSED.

29 And the Levite, (because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee,) and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the Lord thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest.

  3. Thankful to be His Peculiar People

It was hard for me to even imagine people cutting themselves, etc; but then I witness how the catholic religion specially during this time of year some men go as far as being crucified as Christ was but is it really for His Glory. Obviously NOT for this verse makes it clear. Our God is a God that does not accept human blood as a sacrifice!!!! I prefer to stay and continue being His Peculiar People. Thank you Jesus for Your Precious Blood was the only Blood needed for me to be part of your Peculiar People. Help us apply your Blood to our daily life In Jesus Name Amen

  4. 24. And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it; or if the place be too far from thee, which the Lord thy God shall choose to set his name there, when the Lord thy God hath blessed thee:

    25. Then shalt thou turn it into money, and bind up the money in thine hand, and shalt go unto the place which the Lord thy God shall choose:

God doesn’t impose any undue burden on anyone; His plan covers every situation.

  5. “Don’t work yourself into the spotlight; don’t push your way into the place of prominence. It’s better to be promoted to a place of honor than face humiliation by being demoted.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭25:6-7‬ ‭MSG‬‬

Allow God to promote you or increase your place in society. Dont work so hard at being noticed that God overlooks you.

“When God, who is the best shepherd of all, comes out in the open with his rule, he’ll see that you’ve done it right and commend you lavishly. And you who are younger must follow your leaders. But all of you, leaders and followers alike, are to be down to earth with each other, for— God has had it with the proud, But takes delight in just plain people.
So be content with who you are, and don’t put on airs. God’s strong hand is on you; he’ll promote you at the right time. Live carefree before God; he is most careful with you.”
    ‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭5:4-7‬ ‭MSG‬‬

  6. 2 You have been set apart as holy to the Lord your God, and he has chosen you from all the nations of the earth to be his own special treasure. (NLT)

We are a chosen people, a chosen generation. God is doing great things in ISM and I believe we are finally seeing a generation’s eyes being opened to their calling and purpose to be used by God to reach this world – Glory to God, there’s an army rising up!!

  7. 22 Thou shalt truly tithe all the increase of thy seed, that the field bringeth forth year by year.

We tithe on all our increase, whether it is our pay or from the garden! This is just one of the many commands given by Moses so they will be blessed and prosper in their new land. So pay your tithes and God will make a way for your other expenses.

  8. “For you are a holy people to the LORD your God, and the LORD has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.”(Deuteronomy‬ ‭14:2‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

Moses tells the people of Israel how God had given them three distinguishing privileges, which were their honour, and figures of those spiritual blessings in heavenly things, with which God has in Christ blessed us. Here is election; The Lord hath chosen thee. He did not choose them because they were by their own acts a peculiar people to him above other nations, but he chose them that they might be so by his grace; and thus were believers chosen, Eph 1:4.

  9. Deuteronomy 14:2 For thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God, and the Lord hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth.

Lev.20:26 And ye shall be holy unto me: for I the Lord am holy, and have severed you from other people, that ye should be mine.

Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

  10. 22 Thou shalt truly tithe all the increase of thy seed, that the field bringeth forth year by year.

Praise God! Thank you Jesus for taking care of the fatherless. There are so many times that it has been no one but you that keep my children.

  11. For thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God, and the Lord hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth.

Part of meaning of nation means the culture. Our church culture is set apart for other denominations or for that matter other churches. We are set apart for a reason. For this city. For our community. Let’s grow church.

  12. 2 For thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God, and the Lord hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth.

Thank you JESUS!!! HALELUJAH!!! FOR WHO AM I THAT YOU ARE MINDFUL OF ME???
    PSALM 8:4 KJV
What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

  13. 2 for you are a people holy to the Lord your God. Out of all the peoples on the face of the earth, the Lord has chosen you to be his treasured possession.

He has chosen us, me, you! We are Gods treasures possession! He has chosen his children at POFW to turn this world around to see him. I believe that he chose this youth group to change and save this generation! Thank you Jesus for choosing this youth group to not stand by but to have a burden and passion to go out in this world and save the lost!
Philippians 4:13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
He chose us and is strengthening us it’s time we go out and start the revival he has ready for us!

  14. “You have been set apart as holy to the LORD your God, and he has chosen you from all the nations of the earth to be his own special treasure.”
    ‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭14:2 NLT

We are Gods chosen people, and we are called to be separated, to be different, and to make a difference. So we must be carful to not let the unclean things of this world drag us down. We must not forget what we were called to do, and that’s to reach this nation!! He didn’t have to chose me nor you , but when He hung on that cross for our sins, His mind was already made up that even in our sin we are His and we would be called!!

  15. Deut. 14:28-29
    28) At the end of three years thou shalt bring forth all the tithe of thine increase the same year, and shalt lay it up within the gates:
    29) And the Levites, (because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee,) and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest.

When we give to help others, God will bless and take care of us.

  16. iLove to Grow in the Word

23Bring this tithe to the designated place of worship—the place the lord your God chooses for his name to be honored—and eat it there in his presence. This applies to your tithes of grain, new wine, olive oil, and the firstborn males of your flocks and herds. Doing this will teach you always to fear the lord your God.

The path to the Fear of the Lord is through obedience. This obedience can be found through simple acts of worship and paying our tithes. The Word speaks clearly to us that we need to bring our tithes to the house of worship.

  18. 2 For thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God, and the Lord hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above

    1 Peter 2:9
But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

  19. 1 Ye are the children of the Lord your God: ye shall not cut yourselves, nor make any baldness between your eyes for the dead.

2 For thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God, and the Lord hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth.

According to the bible we are supposed to be a peculiar people, we are supposed to stick out among a crowd. Which can be a hard to want to do, (especially when you are introverted like I am). But God has a purpose behind it, if we don’t live differently than the rest of the world, than why would the rest of the world want to be like us?

We should live a lifestyle that makes other people not of the faith to want to know why we are so happy and why we enjoy life as much as we do. We need to set example that life isn’t worth living if it’s without Jesus.

  20. 28 At the end of three years thou shalt bring forth all the tithe of thine increase the same year, and shalt lay it up within thy gates:

29 And the Levite, (because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee,) and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the Lord thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest.

  21. Deuteronomy 14:29 (KJV Strong’s)
29 And the Levite, (because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee,) and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the Lord thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest.

We must do everything we can to make sure the fatherless, and the widow are taken care of. This is true religion and undefiled.

  22. 22 Thou shalt truly tithe all the increase of thy seed, that the field bringeth forth year by year.
way back thousands of years ago the principle of tithing and giving was established in the Old Testament. this same Principle as true today and there is blessing in giving to the kingdom of God every time we have given sacrificially God has blessed supernaturally. Have a heart to give and a willingness to give and see what that doesn’t your life!

  23. 2 For thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God, and the Lord hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth.

We are set apart. It doesn’t matter what we try to do, people know we are different. They see Jesus all over us, even when we are on vacation.

Jesus called each one of us from the hellish pits that we were stuck in so that we might not only serve him, but that we might also reach for those who are lost and hurting. They see us, and if we are living for Christ, they see that, and if we are not they see that too. What are you showing the hurting people around you???

  24. 10 And whatsoever hath not fins and scales ye may not eat; it is unclean unto you.

  25. “And the Levite, (because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee,) and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the Lord thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest.” The word of God (Jesus) placed Levite’s, strangers, orphans, and widows together. One that takes from, hinders, or harms any of the before is very unwise. Dear God, stir us that we may observe and do your will. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  26. “Thou shalt truly tithe all the increase of thy seed, that the field bringeth forth year by year.” The tithe is the Lord’s, and should be given accordingly. Freely giving the tithe (obedience) will open windows, whereas withholding will not. God help us see the true purpose, in Jesus name.

  27. 23 And thou shalt eat before the Lord thy God, in the place which he shall choose to place his name there, the tithe of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herds and of thy flocks; that thou mayest learn to fear the Lord thy God always.

Here is an interesting passage. Tithing can teach you to fear God. One of the reasons why tithing was established, was to sustain a tribe that had no inheritance with God, the Levites. They would be the equivalent to the pastoral family of the church. God is very zealous about this issue. Tithing is a big thing, not only to sustain the Levites but it also prove Lordship in your finances, keeps us from being cursed, shows obedience to God, proves submission and support for Gods work and these are just a few.

  28. 27 And the Levite that is within thy gates; thou shalt not forsake him; for he hath no part nor inheritance with thee.

  29. “Since you are the people of the Lord your God, never cut yourselves or shave the hair above your foreheads in mourning for the dead. You have been set apart as holy to the Lord your God, and he has chosen you from all the nations of the earth to be his own special treasure.
    Deuteronomy 14:1-2 NLT
    http://bible.com/116/deu.14.1-2.NLT

Chosen by God. He chose his people and has a plan for evry one. We are called to be set apart, to be holy. Todays society likes to diminish or mock that which the Lord has called to be His and separate. Do not be intimidated by what the world tries to label. We are a chosen treasure of the Lord.

  30. Verse 2 AMP “for you are a holy people [set apart] to the Lord your God; and the Lord has chosen you out of all the peoples who are on the earth to be a people for His own possession.” Same verse MSG “You only are a people holy to God, your God; God chose you out of all the people on Earth as his cherished personal treasure.” You are chosen by God; do not allow anything or anyone to take that from you or make you think otherwise.

  31. Moses is very clear on how to tithe to God of their increase and income. Since their lovely hoods came from the fields they worked in its natural for them to give this way. The exception of they have to travel long distances to the place God has designated (vs 25). They can exchange their tithe for silver to buy their livestock to give there. Convenience was not the issue its obedience to following Gods plan to care for the Levites, aliens, fatherless and widows. In doing so God will bless them in all the work of their hands.

  32. 21 Ye shall not eat of anything that dieth of itself: thou shalt give it unto the stranger that is in thy gates, that he may eat it; or thou mayest sell it unto an alien: for thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God.

  33. 2You have been set apart as holy to the LORD your God, and he has chosen you from all the nations of the earth to be his own special treasure.

It’s so great, that God has chosen you and me to serve him. We are all worthy to be part of God’s kingdom.

  34. THE GIVING OF THE TITHES
    Deuteronomy 14:22

The giving of the tithes was an act of worship acknowledging God as the Creator of the produces as well as the Sustained and Provider of the nation.

  35. “And thou shalt eat before the Lord thy God, in the place which he shall choose to place his name there, the tithe of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herds and of thy flocks; that thou mayest learn to fear the Lord thy God always.”
    ‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭14:23‬ ‭KJV

We must learn to fear the Lord always. This is a strong statement. The Lord has done so many things for us. In the Old Testament they gave of everything. Just like this verse shows, but we don’t today. So many people only give what is convenient. Not wanting to even give the full amout of their earning to God. As a people we have turned away. We have decided to convince ourselves and make ourselves lord. God will dethrone an untrue god. If we only learn through humility that we must fear the Lord.
