Deuteronomy 16

1 Observe the month of Abib, and keep the passover unto the Lord thy God: for in the month of Abib the Lord thy God brought thee forth out of Egypt by night.

2 Thou shalt therefore sacrifice the passover unto the Lord thy God, of the flock and the herd, in the place which the Lord shall choose to place his name there.

3 Thou shalt eat no leavened bread with it; seven days shalt thou eat unleavened bread therewith, even the bread of affliction; for thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt in haste: that thou mayest remember the day when thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt all the days of thy life.

4 And there shall be no leavened bread seen with thee in all thy coast seven days; neither shall there any thing of the flesh, which thou sacrificedst the first day at even, remain all night until the morning.

5 Thou mayest not sacrifice the passover within any of thy gates, which the Lord thy God giveth thee:

6 But at the place which the Lord thy God shall choose to place his name in, there thou shalt sacrifice the passover at even, at the going down of the sun, at the season that thou camest forth out of Egypt.

7 And thou shalt roast and eat it in the place which the Lord thy God shall choose: and thou shalt turn in the morning, and go unto thy tents.

8 Six days thou shalt eat unleavened bread: and on the seventh day shall be a solemn assembly to the Lord thy God: thou shalt do no work therein.

9 Seven weeks shalt thou number unto thee: begin to number the seven weeks from such time as thou beginnest to put the sickle to the corn.

10 And thou shalt keep the feast of weeks unto the Lord thy God with a tribute of a freewill offering of thine hand, which thou shalt give unto the Lord thy God, according as the Lord thy God hath blessed thee:

11 And thou shalt rejoice before the Lord thy God, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy manservant, and thy maidservant, and the Levite that is within thy gates, and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are among you, in the place which the Lord thy God hath chosen to place his name there.

12 And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in Egypt: and thou shalt observe and do these statutes.

13 Thou shalt observe the feast of tabernacles seven days, after that thou hast gathered in thy corn and thy wine:

14 And thou shalt rejoice in thy feast, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy manservant, and thy maidservant, and the Levite, the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are within thy gates.

15 Seven days shalt thou keep a solemn feast unto the Lord thy God in the place which the Lord shall choose: because the Lord thy God shall bless thee in all thine increase, and in all the works of thine hands, therefore thou shalt surely rejoice.

16 Three times in a year shall all thy males appear before the Lord thy God in the place which he shall choose; in the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles: and they shall not appear before the Lord empty:

17 Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the Lord thy God which he hath given thee.

18 Judges and officers shalt thou make thee in all thy gates, which the Lord thy God giveth thee, throughout thy tribes: and they shall judge the people with just judgment.

19 Thou shalt not wrest judgment; thou shalt not respect persons, neither take a gift: for a gift doth blind the eyes of the wise, and pervert the words of the righteous.

20 That which is altogether just shalt thou follow, that thou mayest live, and inherit the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

21 Thou shalt not plant thee a grove of any trees near unto the altar of the Lord thy God, which thou shalt make thee.

22 Neither shalt thou set thee up any image; which the Lord thy God hateth.

  1. The Isrealites had a lot of feasts, ceremonies, and festivals-rituals. Why? Although very different from our times and lives, they struggled too, with balancing family, work, rest and worship. The many rituals powerfully affect families, giving them a break from the ordinary, everyday tasks that make up their world, reminding them of who they are as a people, what they believe in, and how they want to live. These festivals strengthen the fabric of their society at every level: family, neighborhood, town, religious, civic. They are used to strengthen and unify the people. When we gather together as family, a group of friends or our church body we are strengthened by the unity.

  2. Seven days shalt thou keep a solemn feast unto the Lord thy God in the place which the Lord shall choose: because the Lord thy God shall bless thee in all thine increase, and in all the works of thine hands, therefore thou shalt surely rejoice.

  3. Verse 20 MSG “The right! The right! Pursue only what’s right! It’s the only way you can really live and possess the land that God, your God, is giving you.” Same verse AMP “You shall pursue justice, and only justice [that which is uncompromisingly righteous], so that you may live and take possession of the land which the Lord your God is giving you.” We must not allow anything or anybody to keep us from our promise. Many things are going to try and distract you from “The right”; but, stay focused on Jesus and He will direct you in the right path.

  4. iLove to Grow in the Word

“Then celebrate the Festival of Harvest to honor the LORD your God. Bring him a voluntary offering in proportion to the blessings you have received from him.”
    ‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭16:10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Wow, this is exactly where The Pentecostals of Fort Worth are in our journey from the wilderness. In 7 weeks we will be celebrating Pentecost Sunday in our new facility. Let’s celebrate the feast of the Lord😀

  5. 7 And thou shalt roast and eat it in the place which the Lord thy God shall choose: and thou shalt turn in the morning, and go unto thy tents.

Three times it says God will choose a place but it never says the place. This intrigues me this morning. God doesn’t always lay out an exact plan for us. He doesn’t always give us every step. Just like when Abraham went to sacrifice. God said to go before he gave him the place. Abraham had to just trust God and be in prayer listening for Gods voice to tell him the next move. This is when you really trust the Lord. there is no way to hear Gods next move for our lives unless we keep that continual spirit of prayer. We have to keep our ears open to hear what he’s saying or we will miss it.

  6. 14. Celebrate with your sons and daughters, your male and female slaves, and the Levites, foreigners, orphans, and widows who live in your city.

    15. Celebrate for seven days in honor of the Eternal your God, in the place the Eternal will choose. The Eternal your God will bless you with abundant produce; He will bless everything you do, and you’ll have a lot to celebrate!Voice

    Dance in advance!

    Verse 14 says celebrate…
Verse 15 starts by saying celebrate…then says God will bless you abundantly and you will have something to celebrate about.

Let’s not wait for another reason to celebrate; let’s celebrate now and the reasons will come!

  7. “Each of you must bring a gift. Do it in keeping with the way the Lord your God has blessed you.”
    ‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭16:17‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

A gift we can offer to God is ourselves. We have been blessed with a redemption plan to follow. And as we follow that plan we will be changed.

“Brothers and sisters, God has shown you his mercy. So I am asking you to offer up your bodies to him while you are still alive. Your bodies are a holy sacrifice that is pleasing to God. When you offer your bodies to God, you are worshiping him. Don’t live any longer the way this world lives. Let your way of thinking be completely changed. Then you will be able to test what God wants for you. And you will agree that what he wants is right. His plan is good and pleasing and perfect.”
    ‭‭Romans‬ ‭12:1-2‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

  8. “Thou shalt not plant thee a grove of any trees near unto the altar of the Lord thy God, which thou shalt make thee. Neither shalt thou set thee up any image; which the Lord thy God hateth.”
    ‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭16:21-22‬ ‭KJV‬‬

We are promised a inheritance but we must not allow it to become our idol. Or anything else.

  9. Proverbs 28:21 Playing favorites is always a bad thing; you can do great harm in seemingly harmless ways.

Parents, be careful of favoritism between your children. Favoritism can cause generations to fall into the same trap. Take Abraham, for example. He favored his son Isaac over his son Ishmael the son he had with Sarah’s handmaid, Hagar. Sarah began to detest Ishmael and made Abraham put him and Hagar out on the streets. Isaac was the favorite. Isaac grew up to play favorites as well, as did his wife, Rebekah. Isaac loved Esau more, and Rebekah preferred Jacob. Rebekah, in particular, engineered situations that would favor her beloved son, Jacob. When Jacob grew up, he too played favorites with his children. He loved Joseph and Benjamin, the sons of his wife Rachel, more than the rest. His lavish preference of Joseph, specifically, caused a riot among the children that worked to Joseph’s “demise.”

  10. GOD HAS ENABLED US

17 Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the Lord thy God which he hath given thee.

GOD chose a tithe because it is equal in percentage of increase but not equal in value. GOD tests each of us based on our willingness to obey HIS instructions. The tithe is the LORDS, we give it back to GOD because it belongs to HIM. We establish TRUST by this obedient act. However the TITHE is not the end of our giving, the TITHE is where we begin, by giving 10% to GOD (FIRST). In fact if we only TITHE we are not giving at all, we are simply returning to GOD what belongs to HIM.

“Every man shall give as he is able” GOD knows our ability and he does not base our ability to give on what we owe, who we owe or why we owe. GOD bases our ability to give on the favor and blessing he has placed on our lives.

For instance, just because we have a high flow of finances, but don’t have any money left to give, does not mean that GOD doesnt expect us to give according to the high flow of finances. GOD does not get us in debt, GOD does not force us to have children, GOD does not alter his expectation of us because we are careless with finances and over commit our finances to buy bigger houses, new cars, expensive clothes and excessories, exotic meals and so on.

GOD bases our ability to give on the amount of increase he gives us. For The POFW our IFT giving has been a divine reflection of how we give. Some have committed and given much more sacrificial than others. Thanks to each of you for supporting the VISION of The POFW by giving faithfully.

    We are BLESSED!

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iTithe
    iGive
    iReap

  11. 17 All must give as they are able, according to the blessings given to them by the Lord your God. (NLT)

God isn’t demanding a crazy amount from everyone, but He does desire us to give as we are able. Often we’re blinded as to what we can give; some look at their wallets and don’t have two pennies to rub together. But I serve a God who has blessed me in more ways than with money. He has blessed me with joy and peace, and as He’s blessed in such ways, we too can return and offering of praise and obedience. Verse 12 says, “Remember that you were once slaves in Egypt, so be careful to obey all these decreed.” Remember where He brought you from, and like Pastor preached yesterday, remember that He is alive!! He’s worthy of all that I am able to give!

  12. 22 Neither shalt thou set thee up any image; which the Lord thy God hateth
God is serious about not worshipping or putting up any image that is not pleasing to him! He wants nothing to take his place in our lives but he wants us to give ourselves completly to him. Anything that seperates us from us and God and is before God is a idol

  13. 22 Neither shalt thou set thee up any image; which the Lord thy God hateth.

We all say we have no “graven image” before the Lord. However, if we take the time to evaluate our lives, we may just find things that we have allowed to creep in to take His place that we was not even aware of.

Lord, help me each day to evaluate my life so that I can go to the high places and tear down any and every strong hold that would keep me from being a vessel pleasing in Your sight.

  14. 20 The right! The right! Pursue only what’s right! It’s the only way you can really live and possess the land that God, your God, is giving you.(MSG)

  15. GOD IS A JEALOUS GOD

22 Neither shalt thou set thee up any image; which the Lord thy God hateth.

There were 2 things I did that the priest at the Catholic Church reprimanded me for: 1. Reading my bible by myself. 2. Question the idols in the church.
There were 3 verses that really open my eyes to the truth: 1. Deut 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: 2. Leviticus 26:1 Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God. 3. Romans 15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have.
Sometimes we must search for the truth ourselves, to follow be the true knowledge of Christ and what He desired for us. Question and if the answer is not sustained by the word of God find a place that it is. Thank you Jesus for a Pentecostal Aunt that told me to search, thank you Jesus for shows no me the truth so simple and clear. For loving me and dying for me when I didn’t know the truth. Thank You for setting me free even when I didn’t realize I was in bondage. We serve a great, loving, and mighty God!!!!!!

  16. 12 And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in Egypt: and thou shalt observe and do these statutes.

In case we may need to remember, here is another reason from the word of God, why we should always bring an offering with gladness and rejoicing. Simply, because he brought us out of bondgage where sin had us in constant suffering. This should be a more than enough reason to always be glad bringing an offering to the Lord. He paid the ultimate sacrifice, something i cannot afford, so that i may experinece real freedom. Thank you Jesus for the blood.

  17. Deut. 16:1 (NLT)
“In honor of the LORD your God, celebrate the Passover each year in the early spring, in the month of Abib, for that was the month in which the LORD your God brought you out of Egypt by night.”

When I read this, I thought of our Spiritual birthdays. When do you celebrate the day, God brought you out of this world of darkness and into His marvellous light?
I celebrate Sept 12, 1982. Thank You JESUS!!

  18. The Feast of the Weeks or Feast of the Harvest (DEUTERONOMY 16:9-12)
later was called PENTECOST, this feast was to celebrate the blessings of God on the Harvest began on the day following the Sabbath of the feast of passover.

We are about to began a new path in May 15, we are about to celebrate our PENTECOST day. The HARVEST is READY!!!

  19. 12 And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in Egypt: and thou shalt observe and do these statutes.

Let us not forget our testimony and where we came from before Jesus came into our lives and saved us from the sin that was keeping us bond in our lives. Our testimony is a gift that God gives us to allow us to reach other people, so that they can know that they don’t have to be bond by sin either, that there is a way out and his name is Jesus.

  20. 11 And thou shalt rejoice before the Lord thy God, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy manservant, and thy maidservant, and the Levite that is within thy gates, and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are among you, in the place which the Lord thy God hath chosen to place his name there.

12 And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in Egypt: and thou shalt observe and do these statutes.

Rejoice, praise , worship….That’s what God wants, with no care as to whom is there watching, it don’t matter, we all been brought out of some dark places, and we all have a testimony, we can PRAISE HIM…because he brought us out, we can remember the pain and the bondage, but the FREEDOM God gave us when he set us FREE! WE SHOULD REJOICE!
GOD IS GREAT AND GREATLY TO BE PRAISED!

  21. 17 ) every man shall give as he is able according to the blessing of the LORD thy God which he hath given thee

  22. 17 Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the Lord thy God which he hath given thee.

  24. Eat it with bread made without yeast. For seven days the bread you eat must be made without yeast, as when you escaped from Egypt in such a hurry. Eat this bread—the bread of suffering—so that as long as you live you will remember the day you departed from Egypt.
    Deuteronomy 16:3 NLT
    http://bible.com/116/deu.16.3.NLT

When ever we feel like fainting in God’s way we must always remember what God brought us out of. For some of us it was addiction, depression, drugs ect…and we cannot faint or be comfortable where we are at we must continue to go forward and continue to seek Him even more.

  25. 10 And thou shalt keep the feast of weeks unto the Lord thy God with a tribute of a freewill offering of thine hand, which thou shalt give unto the Lord thy God, according as the Lord thy God hath blessed thee:
11 And thou shalt rejoice before the Lord thy God, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy manservant, and thy maidservant, and the Levite that is within thy gates, and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are among you, in the place which the Lord thy God hath chosen to place his name there.

  26. You must never twist justice or show partiality. Never accept a bribe, for bribes blind the eyes of the wise and corrupt the decisions of the godly. Let true justice prevail, so you may live and occupy the land that the LORD your God is giving you. (‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭16‬:‭19-20‬ NLT)

  27. Deuteronomy 16:3 (NLT)
3 Eat it with bread made without yeast. For seven days the bread you eat must be made without yeast, as when you escaped from Egypt in such a hurry. Eat this bread—the bread of suffering—so that as long as you live you will remember the day you departed from Egypt.

We must eat the bread of suffering.
Jesus said if we suffer with him we would reign with him. Suffering is necessary for our walk with God and our path to heaven.
Suffering helps us to remember the pit that God pulled us from, the Egypt we were once beholden to, and the privilege of freedom from slavery.

  28. Thanks you Lord. I cherish you and I won’t worship other gods.
While I’m waiting I will serve you.
I’m sorry for my bad habits and bad taste of music. I’m tired Lord….I’m tired.
It’s time to hear what you’ve taught me. That’s ACTS 2:38.

  29. 3 Thou shalt eat no leavened bread with it; seven days shalt thou eat unleavened bread therewith, even the bread of affliction; for thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt in haste: that thou mayest remember the day when thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt all the days of thy life.
To Remember the day when those chains busted off of us, is a GREAT MEMORY to keep us on our toes!!! HALELUJAH!!! Thank you JESUS for deliverance!!!

  30. 16 Three times in a year shall all thy males appear before the Lord thy God in the place which he shall choose; in the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles: and they shall not appear before the Lord empty:
17 Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the Lord thy God which he hath given thee.

God expected them to bring an offering to him during these 3 important feasts. The people were blessed and enjoyed the prosperity of the Lord and were to express their thanks through giving abundantly & proportionately as the they had been blessed. Same with us today-don’t get cheap with God who blesses us greatly!

  31. 19 Thou shalt not wrest judgment; thou shalt not respect persons, neither take a gift: for a gift doth blind the eyes of the wise, and pervert the words of the righteous.

The people should be treated alike. If some get to do something and the others aren’t allowed to do it , then it’s not fair to them. GOD doesn’t like that.

  32. “You shall not pervert justice; you shall not show partiality, nor take a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and twists the words of the righteous.”(Deuteronomy‬ ‭16:19‬ ‭NKJV)

Care is taken for the due administration of justice. All personal regards must be laid aside, so that right is done to all, and wrong to none. Care is taken to prevent following the idolatrous customs of the heathen. Nothing belies God more, or tends more to corrupt the minds of men, than representing and worshipping, by an image, that God, who is an almighty and eternal Spirit, present every where.

  33. “That which is altogether just shalt thou follow, that thou mayest live, and inherit the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.” They were receiving instructions, which they were too follow. There was a reason that they were being reminded, just as there is today. One is wise to heed the word of God (Judge) over anything/anyone else. Dear God, help us clearly hear you. God Bless America, Israel, Jerusalem, and you all in Jesus name, Amen!

  34. “Thou shalt not plant thee a grove of any trees near unto the altar of the Lord thy God, which thou shalt make thee.” A plant has roots that cannot always be seen, even by the one that planted it; however the Lord can see all. All the more reason why we should be careful of what we plant or allow too grow, elsewise we may not see all that the root touches. God let nothing grow between us and the altar, in Jesus name.

  35. 17 Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the Lord thy God which he hath given thee.
God doesn’t just want the rich to give. He willale a way for the poor to give too. No excuses !

  36. 9 Seven weeks shalt thou number unto thee: begin to number the seven weeks from such time as thou beginnest to put the sickle to the corn.

7 weeks marks Pentecost. I can only imagine that there was much rejoicing in that upper room on that day.

  37. Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the Lord thy God which he hath given thee.

God blesses us, so we are able to give back to him. Don’t try to cheat God what is due to him. We can be abundantly blessed if we would harken unto the Lord’s voice.

  38. 11 And thou shalt rejoice before the Lord thy God, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy manservant, and thy maidservant, and the Levite that is within thy gates, and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are among you, in the place which the Lord thy God hath chosen to place his name there.

As a family it is important to praise God together.

  39. 15 Seven days shalt thou keep a solemn feast unto the Lord thy God in the place which the Lord shall choose: because the Lord thy God shall bless thee in all thine increase, and in all the works of thine hands, therefore thou shalt surely rejoice.

  40. 11 And thou shalt rejoice before the Lord thy God, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy manservant, and thy maidservant, and the Levite that is within thy gates, and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are among you, in the place which the Lord thy God hath chosen to place his name there.

12 And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in Egypt: and thou shalt observe and do these statutes.

  41. 4 Let no yeast be found in any house throughout your land for those seven days. And when you sacrifice the Passover lamb on the evening of the first day, do not let any of the meat remain until the next morning.

God wants us to be as pure as possible when we are to come and honor, worship and praise him. Any sin (yeast) from your mind and heart needs to be forgiven and repented from.

  42. 17 Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the Lord thy God which he hath given thee.

Hallelujah!! Every man shall give as he is able, according to the BLESSING of the Lord which He hath GIVEN you!!! He gives us everything and we all have something to give. We should not give our “$5.00 or change left over money” because were not disciplined with the blessing He has given us. What are we spending our extra money in shoes, clothes, cars, chairs, squares, IFT???? Don’t let the blessing that the Lord has given you be a curse. I used to say “I’m broke” because we weren’t disciplined with our finances, but thank God that His blessing is raining more due to our discipline. We were able to pay all our IFT and all our debt except the car. Plus we are able to bless our evangelists, buy chairs, squares, and bless other ministries. Jesus is so good but like Pastor said disciple!!!! So hallelujah because I’m not sick, I’m blessed and anointed!!!!

  43. Deuteronomy 6:9 Count of 7 weeks from the time you begin to put the sickle to the standing grain. Then celebrate the Festival of weeks to the Lord your God by giving a free-will offering in proportion to the blessing the Lord your God has given you. And rejoice before the Lord your God at the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name you and your sons and daughters your male and female servants the Levites in your townside and the foreigners the fatherless and widows living among you. Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and follow carefully these decrees.

Watch out for the idols of evey

We are to be careful so that we don’t set up idols in our lives. They could be things that have real purpose in your life. Things that are idols can come from anything, so b careful in all you do
